Hospitality Industry Workers Are Revealing What It’s Like To Work With Celebrities (30 Stories)
People who have worked in the hospitality industry have created somewhat of a challenge on TikTok—those who have had the (dis)pleasure of serving celebrities are describing how the famous folks behave when the cameras are off.
The alleged stories feature everyone from Naomi Campbell to Keanu Reeves, and I think we can be pretty thankful for them. If it wasn't for these confessions, we would probably never know about our beloved A-listers' tipping habits or weird orders. So sit back, continue scrolling, and prepare to see your favorite idols in a new light. Enjoy.

Keanu Reeves - Described By A Waitress
He came in for a lunch with a bunch of industry stiffs. Orders a dozen oysters for himself like it's a casual thing to do, He was so polite, so humble, paid for the whole bill. Tipped super well.
I don't understand what's so special about ordering 12 oysters for oneself, isn't that normal?
I guess it depends where you are... but it doesn't seem strange to me.

Mate he doesn't need to be on this list, anyone who has looked at this website or Reddit in the last 5 years knows how awesome this guy is.
That IS a casual thing to do. My husband does it all the time when he's traveling.
Jamie Lee Curtis - Described By An Apple Store Employee
Showed up 30 minutes early, waited outside for us to open. She's amazing.
absolutely had to get that new iphone, huh? Guess they can be just like us, too, sometimes.
"They" are also people. This does not make them "they", but "we".
Load More Replies...So she just observed basic shopping etiquette? She just waited for a store to be open? What exactly am I meant to be impressed by here?
Julianne Moore - Described By A Server
Beautiful, classy and sweet. One of the few celebrities to look you in the eye and say "Thank you".
She just had that kind of look to her. So I'm glad to read this.
I assisted on some audio post production on one of her films and she had to do some post dialogue recording. Absolutely kind, called everyone by their name, and served everyone bagels. And she's actually more gorgeous in person (but VERY petite).
These stories focus on much more than just tips, and I agree: some actions speak louder than words bills. But as a former waiter, I know that your tolerance tank gets way bigger if you're getting paid for your struggles.
If we were to look at Hollywood's generous tippers, thankfully, we'd see quite a long list. Jimmy Fallon, for example, kicked off 2020 at Kissaki Sushi in Water Mill, New York, with his wife Nancy Juvonen, and left a generous $400 tip for their waiter, a representative for the restaurant confirmed with PEOPLE. Fallon also agreed to take photos with fans who were eating nearby.
Hillary Clinton - Described By A Server
It was post-election Hillary. She had been through it. So I was thinking maybe she'd want red wine, something relaxing...Hillary Clinton was drinking tequila sodas
I was doing shots of tequila and crying..... one of the worst days of my life
Load More Replies...This woman has been investigated, probed, questioned, and put under a microscope more than any political figure in history. Not one indictment. Not one charge or evidence of wrongdoing. I'm STILL with her. Always will be.
Yeah, if this last couple election cycles has shown me anything it has shown me that if you have the right connections and/or dirt on people you aren't going to be treated like the rest of us in the legal system. This applies to people from either of the main parties. That being said, while I don't like her, she's not stupid and she should get credit for being able to avoid the consequences of whatever illegal/sketchy things she and her husband may have done that aren't part of some pipe dream conspiracy. :-D FYI: Look at how often Trump has been investigated or at least sued and look at where he is. I mean, I've voted for the guy and he's definitely a douche, but how has he never ended up in jail over his financial or behavioral shenanigans?
Load More Replies...Did she take her trusty bottle 'o hot sauce out of her purse and shake it in the tequila soda too?
Met one of her old high school classmates. Said she was really smart and not surprised she was where she was. Was an overachiever IIRC. This was during the Obama Admin. Can't recall if she was a senator or Sec. of State or whatever she was doing when I heard this. Went on one date with her he said. Pleasant enough. Actually wrote her when he realized who she was after Bill made it to the WH. It had been many years after school at that point. Never actually thought he'd get a reply but he did and she remembered him. Said something like it was good to hear from him again. Brought in his old yearbook and letter as proof.
You'd want to get seriously drunk if you ever lose the presidency to a stupid orange moron.
She never ran a campaign. She did a " victory tour" . Ignoring all those "flyover states"

she was shooting a movie in my city, and people found out where her trailer was. They said she was incredibly kind, warm and friendly.
I bet she ordered fettuccine alfredo. I watched an interview with her and they asked about her character in "Santa Clarita Diet", and then asked if she dieted. She said she hated it and would rather eat "Fettuccine Alfredo all day long"..the audience whoooped it up! She went on to talk about how she at times just doesn't care if she gains weight, but she likes to get back into shape when she is working...but then doesn't care again when shooting stops. Love that gal!
Gigi & Bella Hadid - Described By A Hostess
These two are so nice. I can not tell you enough things about them. They're super polite and friendly with staff which is unfortunately rare for celebrities.
The best part is that such acts are contagious. On November 7th, Blue Bloods star Donnie Wahlberg dined at a Marshland restaurant location in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and left his server, Denise Andrews, a $2,020 tip on a $35.27 bill.
Later that month, his co-star Tom Selleck left a handwritten note and a $2,020 tip on a $204.68 bill for the servers at Elio's restaurant in New York City. In his letter, Selleck gave a special nod to his costar Donnie Wahlberg, who inspired him to share his good fortunes and good wishes with the staff. "For Elios, I am honoring my friend Donnie Wahlberg's 'Tip Challenge' [see next slide] with my sincere hope for a better 2020. Thank you all," the letter said.
Of course, nobody expects celebrities to pay crazy amounts of money every time they drink a latte, but it's certainly nice to see them helping hospitality industry workers.
Beyonce - Described By A Hostess
We didn't speak too much. Her and Jay-Z came in , I walked them to the table. But when she left she made sure to look at me with a big smile, and say "Thank you". She was beautiful.
She's a musician not just "a celeb", so I'm not sure about the overrated celeb bit
Load More Replies...Had the privilege to be her waitress in Monaco. She always remembered my name, very polite and patient, waited for anything as long as she had to do without complaining once, even when she had to wait like 2 hours for something. She was a piece of sunshine. And by the way OMFG she looks absolutely stunning without makeup!
She’s well known to be a bad person too, but just keeps the cameras off of her enough to avoid the bad press.
Not a fan, but I heard she's an introvert, and introverts can be mistaken as rude, especially when they're huge celebrities, and people wish to exchange a few words with them. But, as an introvert myself, this can be super tiring, so if that's true, I totally understand her. Either way, how she is described here, it definitely sounds like a very typical introverted behaviour.

This guy came in with a giant sun hat on, glasses and fanny pack. I asked "Do you need help with anything". He lowered his glasses and whispered "No". But he was funny.
So the characters he plays is a bit of reflection of his true self lol. Certainly makes life interesting if that's the case.
Is he the bloke from Between Two Firn’s .... If it is, I like him , he’s quite funny
Dakota Fanning - Described By A Server
Seems like a really normal person. Met a girlfriend there, split a bottle of white wine. Solid tipper, can't complain.
Yes!! I was thinking how did she get a bottle of wine!?

Abby Lee Miller - Described By An Apple Store Employee
Her character from "Dance Moms" is not a character. She is exactly who you think she is. She was screaming at me.
I hate it that people who behave atrociously are given celebrity status (or even just the platform to be seen because it's deemed entertainment).
The dance director of Dance Moms. A total beeatch to the young girls on her show
Load More Replies...I talked to someone who saw her on an airplane. She told me she was a complete bitch. You’d think cancer would humble a person. Nope.
No idea what Dance Moms is but I'm imagining beauty pageants or something, just nasty, and she looks like she would be unpleasant.
Basically a dance competition where the child/teen dancers compete and their moms scream at each other over who's child is best.

Wouldn't get off the aircraft until everyone else got off, which she can't do because the flight attendants need to get off...I was a fan before I met her. After...yeah, no.
Was it a diva thing or a kindness thing as in "no, you guys go first".
When you're telling staff what to do instead of the script they are bound to follow? No, it's never a kindness thing. Airline industry is basically one enormous rulebook, with extra rulebooks on what to do if which rule is broken in what way.

Amanda Seyfried
Looks like a beautiful little fairy in person. Came in on a super busy night with her husband but was really sweet and and understanding.
Amanda Seyfried and Zooey Deschanel are apparently the same person; quirky girl-next-door who borders the hipsters and Hollywood A-List.

That's how you stay a millionaire... change your laws to include a living wage for servers
No it isn’t. You can stay a millionaire and tip well. Changing the laws for servers would decrease their income by a lot. You guys just don’t want to tip.
Load More Replies...That's what happens when you grow up in a world where dropping 20,000 on a purse is acceptable. Meanwhile, I'm working with children who have one pair of raggedy shoes and no one at home to help them learn to read so that they can escape poverty. Seriously, the way society worships rush people needs to change.
You dont stay a billionaire by tipping 10% or more ma'am...well actually you do the interest she made on her money alone in the time it took to eat was more than enough to cover the bill and a 100% tip. But hey follow her on IG and buy whatever weird diet pill shes hawking this week anyway.
Genuine question....if a waitress serves, say 3 different tables every hour and they all tip 10% wouldn't she be on 30-40 dollars an hour? Here in uk I tip 10% and whoever is serving my table has 3-4 others so I would expect them to make decent money on a busy night...I'm not being disparaging here,I genuinely do not know what a busy waitress in a half decent restaurant makes....any answers??
Not everyone tips, not everyone tips that well, and it really depends on what the hourly wage is for a restaurant worker. So there is no generalization you can make about what servers make. In some places in the US, the wages are horribly low, particularly in the restaurant business. I just read an article about a bartender in Texas who makes $2.13 an hour in wages. After taxes and every other deduction from her pay, that bartender's paycheck can be a pittance. Tips are how she keeps body and soul together. In California, the servers make more money, but they don't necessarily work 40 hours a week, either. If tips are getting them $30/hour on one busy night, I don't begrudge that.

Naomi Campbell - Described By A Flight Attendant
There was many stories of how rude she can be, and was actually banned by the airline I worked at for apparently spitting in a crew members face. She sits on napkins whenever she flies to avoid touching the seat so, plus points for that.
She's pretty nasty, seen her in action and her behaviour makes her so ugly.
So she's a super germaphobe but has no issue spitting on people. Wow. Just wow
Not to mention the whole blood diamond fiasco, she is just a horrible human being.
I saw her at the Ahmet Ertegun tribute concert in London in 2007. This was the concert Led Zepplin reformed for. She was there wearing her sun glasses (at night), screaming at someone.
Toxic shitiot...sorry for everyone around that cuntblossom. BTw you put that Corey Hart song in my head-lol

Okay, so, Dakota. She forgot her passport, all the way in LA in the middle of traffic hour, So we had to delay the flight, and she still didn't make it back. But I made fun of her the next time she flew out — she laughed and was super polite.
this happens a lot actually, even more likely if they think you left it on the plane.

Him and his wife came in for a lunch reservation one day and he was so friendly. I honestly think he's the nicest celebrity I've ever met. It fulfilled all my childhood dreams.
This makes me so happy! Josh Peck starred in Nickleodeon‘s "Drake and Josh". He played a nerdy, awkward, unlucky but utterly sweet and innocent teenager. I‘ve always admires how far he has come and it’s great to see he‘s such a nice person in real life :)
Is he Gregory Peck's grandson? (although I imagine he has his own career)
He and his wife, not him and his wife. Where did these people go to school?
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley - Described By A Flight Attendant
Smells amazing. Looks photoshopped in real life. Didn't eat one thing from a aircraft, didn't drink one thing from a aircraft. She only brought her spring water. She was kind.
Best way to not have a jet lag is to not eat during your flight and only drink water (also.. you probably can't eat much if you need to fit those outfits..)
If you travel far enough for a potential jet lag, you pass out without eating. But I suppose a VIP like her doesn't have my same flying experience.... ^^"

We were flying from LA to New York. It was a red-eye, she was seriously so sweet... but she did go to the lavatory with no shoes on.
Maybe she had socks on at least. Kim is one of the nicest celebrities. She has to be since her whole reason for being famous is just being well known.
Good to see she was sweet. people‘s hygienic standards are different. Apparently she just felt at home or thinks your bathroom is super clean :)
This is honestly a surprise, I've always had the impression that she was stuck-up. It's nice that she treated the others on the flight kindly though.
I mean when you've blown half the NBA and hip hop artist in the world a little walking on pee is nothing for this ejaculate dumpster lol
Have you ever been in an airplane bathroom? *shudder* just thinking about entering one without shoes makes me want to soak my feet in disinfectant ...so gross
Load More Replies...Glenn Close - Described By A Server
With Glenn Close always came Pip, and Pip was running the show. Pip had full rein to run around the restaurant as much as he wanted. Not the most fun, but the dog was pretty funny, and it was overall okay.
How could you say such a thing. Dogs are better than humans... Fact
Love dogs, have 4 myself. But one running loose in a restaurant is a health code issue for one and an accident waiting to happen.
That's really not cool, though. I understand precious pooches, but letting them run around around a place with not only a lot of people, but lots of people working holding heavy, awkward trays. The tripability factor alone. And, also, was the second sentence only because it was Glenn Close's dog? Anyone else would have been raked for such behavior.
I can't stand people who assume they can take their dogs everywhere. A guy at Home Depot insisted his dog (a shepherd mix) was a service dog, but it was incredibly ill behaved, so yeah absolutely not a service dog. Service dogs go through a rigorous 22-24 month training process and most certainly would NOT TAKE A S**T in aisle 12.
Kendall Jenner - Described By A Hostess
This is another one where unfortunately I did not have the best experience with them, She used to come in all the time and was pretty cold toward staff. She also usually has someone else speak for her, and doesn't speak directly to staff.
Wow, having someone to speak for you like that is just rude. If that's true, it's pretty disgusting behaviour. The only time it should be done is if the person can't talk, is deaf, or someone that needs translating, social anxiety etc. Not because your a stuck up celebrity thinking your better than everyone else. I hope that wasn't the case.
sometimes my friends will have to speak for me because i'm too socially anxious to ask for basic things :(

He stalked out (I had to unlock the door for him). My manager said, "Do you know who that was? He's the drummer for the Grateful Dead! I bet no one has treated him that way in 30 years!" To which I said: "About damned time, then!"
i know who he is (only becuase I just googled him) , hes the guy that was slightly famous for a moment on Vine (now defunct app) and assaulted someone in a hotel in January of this year. Clearly a national treasure.
When people ask "do you know who I am?" I purposely don't ask. I once said to someone "no, and it's irrelevant because I know you don't own this building or business, so it doesn't change anything", he face was an absolute picture!

This is gonna be controversial. I've met her handful of times and every time she was not nice. I really want to like her.
This is vague as f**k... you could easily say someone is not nice because they kept quiet with their headphones on

If 2020 was a career, it would be Katherine Heigl. Friends of mine who have worked on set with her and photoshoots, have told me that she's extremely difficult and always mad.

Apparently, her career took a nose-dive because she has been described in many articles as being very difficult to work with. Many sources have described her this way. I don't know her so I can't say, but where there's (a lot) of smoke, there's usually fire.

Orlando Bloom - Described By An Apple Store Employee
This guy came in with a motorcycle helmet, went all the way to the back, went to the staircase, which people aren't allowed to go and I went back there, and I said, 'Do you need help with anything?' and he took off his helmet and it was Orlando Bloom.
Okay so did he have permission to go back there or did he presume he should be exempt due to his fame. This doesn't really explain what he was like.
That doesn’t cover it - was it an accident? Was he robbing the place? Was he audacious? This doesn’t say much at all
Jonah Hill - Described By A Waitress
Now this one was confusing, when I met him, he was standing in the doorway, holding the door open, going, 'Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.' It was either he was trying to get attention, or he was just trying to say thank you. Actually couldn't figure it out. Weird interaction.
Maybe he's worried that if he appears rude or bad mannered people who will only ever meet him once will assume that he's always rude, and will tell everyone they know on social media. Then he might get 'cancelled' and his career will be over xxx
If I was a celebrity, that would be my thought process.
Load More Replies...I may be able to shed light on this one. I used to work in a building that housed approx 2000 employees, with constant visitor flow to the various offices. Anyway when I went outside, if I saw someone coming I would hold the door open for them. Sometimes a few would pass. If they swanned past me without catching my eye or acknowledging me. I would say Thank you, thank you.....to each person. Basically I was reminding these people of thier manners.
I sometimes say "you're welcome," which is the standard response to "thank you."
He was holding the door letting people in and saying thank you to them. Why is he thanking people while holding the door for them. Sounds like he was doing a schtick or trying to be sarcastically funny. He wasn't being kind. He was doing a bit.

I had several friends of mine work on set with her, for a show. 'She's not nice' is a phrase that we can use. She loves to rub hummus on her dress. Playing mind games on you. She does this thing where she talks to you while not talking to you.
What does this mean? "She loves to rub hummus on her dress“? I don't get it.
The longer story is that she would rub hummus on her dress then complain loudly to the wardrobe staff about giving her stained clothes to wear.

Jason Derul - Described By A Disney Employee
Jason Derulo does not know lyrics to Christmas songs and he had to write the lyrics on his hand, it was kind of embarrassing.
Sorry, not everyone is into Christmas songs so it should not be something to be embarrassed about.
If he is meant to be performing them, then he should at least learn the words.

This isn't a reflection of his character though, just his musical choices.
Michael Bublé was on. SNL for the Xmas episode a couple of years ago and must have been nervous because just as the camera zoomed in on his face forgot the words to a standard song. You could see the actual moment it dawned him he didn't know the next word. I remember thinking I bet he was embarrassed.
Not everyone is into Christmas music, but before the performance he should’ve taken the time to learn the lyrics at least.

Imagine being a celebrity and now being critiqued by everyone you come in contact with when you're trying to go about your normal life. I'm all for calling out bad behaviour, but this seems unnecessarily intrusive.
Yeah but it doesn't take much effort to be nice and polite. Most think that because they are famous, that gives them the right to be dickweenies to those of us who buy tickets to see their shows, like we are beneath them. They are no better than the rest of us who chose not to go into acting, sports, modeling and anything else that seems to give them a sense of entitlement.

I just realized the title on BP is "Hospitality Industry Workers Are Revealing What It’s Like To Work With Celebrities".
