Considering how fast the car was probably going, and that he had to pedal hard enough that long to overcome it, this is both emotionally and physically impressive to me. This guy is great.
How could he live after this if he just stopped and saw it get away?
Load More Replies...Oh my God! I'm so freaking tired- I could've sworn I was speaking to Caro Caro. I mentioned you and Nathaniel in a post that showed a Swiss cheese for bread cheese sandwich that made me realize that I hadn't seen her in a while. However, it's good to find you, too! (My niece and nephew have come unexpectedly to permanently live with us and I've been scrambling to get them settled in. My adrenaline is in overdrive and as tired as I am, I can't sleep. I probably sound AND look like a raving lunatic).

They do a great job of filtering water, but why would you want to eat those nasty things knowing what they've just filtered!
i wouldn't eat them just because they are the consistency of a briny booger

At this point I'm fairly sure rich people see anything good for the world and think "Imma eat that till it's extinct" or "Imma kill that till it's extinct" or "Imma kill and eat that till it's extinct". If they can't kill/eat it, then the buy it up so no one can have it
Humans have eaten oysters since the Stone Age. Vast "middens" of discarded oyster shells can be found wherever humans lived alongside oyster beds. Even in Victorian Britain, oysters were food for the poor and working classes. The decline in oyster numbers is down to water quality, and nothing to do with "rich people".
Load More Replies...Alright, oysters are living water purifiers. Cool. Well... another reason for me NOT to eat them. ^^
Some time ago, Bored Panda spoke with Lauren McMenemy, a creative coach and London-based writer of gothic-influenced folk horror who shared some very interesting thoughts about people’s fascination with spooky and mysterious things. Whether it’s a Netflix horror show, a gothic novel, or some spine-chilling photographs, there’s something captivating about things that frighten us.
Lauren, who is working on a novel set in the world of the Victorian occult, is no stranger to all things horror and she believes she has some answers. “We are often fascinated by what we do not understand, and curiosity is a big part of the lure of horror and the supernatural,” she said.
She believes that our brain is always trying to rationalize that shadow in the corner, or the mysterious light in the sky. “But often we’re not satisfied by the rational explanation. We crave something more than what’s right in front of us,” the creative coach explained.
This is only a theory. Lots more research needs to be done. Especially since yersinia pestis is a bacterium and hiv is a virus. There is no reason why they should be related. A lot of new theories say that the black death was multiple diseases and one of them may have been a virus that has given people resistance to hiv. Its likely but to call this a fact is just not true yet.
All of us had an ancestor who survived the Black Death. That's how life works.
Not necessarily. Some of us have ancestors who never caught Black Death in the first place. That's not quite the same as surviving it.
Load More Replies...This is something I've thought about for years. Between the age of 13 to 16, 1986-1989 I had s*x with approximately 1000 men and never used any type of protection. I've always wondered how I never got hiv/aids. It was rarely 1 guy at a time and many times it was guys having s*x with other guys and having s*x with me as well. I've been tested afterwards, years later and I never got hiv and was a blood donor many times. Is there a way to get tested to see if I'm one of the people who are immune?
My god, are you doing ok? Glad you didn't contract hiv. You may be able to pay for genetic testing for these gene variants. There are many companies now that will send you a testing kit to return to look for specific types of genes. Not sure if any cover these.
Load More Replies...turns out the cells of those folks are missing a protien on their cell surfaces that is used by the hiv virus to enter immune cells...the role the protein plays in the transmission of Yersinia pestis is less clear...but not having the protein is two-fer in plague-resistence
Wouldn't all European decedents have ancestors who survived the bubonic plague?
"Surviving" a disease and "living during the era and not catching it" are two different things, though. I would not say I "survived Covid" if I never even had it. I am not a "survivor"...I am lady who lived during the pandemic and didn't get sick.

Alternatively, the cat discovered dying people don't move around too much, so he could snuggle down and not get disturbed by them getting up to use the bathroom or going for tea.

Load More Replies...Moreover, “this fascination with the supernatural is a way to be curious about the big questions about life, death and what happens after. It can also provide an escapism from the drudgery - or the chaos, as in recent times! - of everyday life.”
Lauren argues that often, “we’re drawn to scary stories because it’s a way to experience fear in a controlled environment.” In this way, we can put the book down or turn the movie off if it gets too much. “It’s a cathartic way to explore that curiosity without putting ourselves into real and present danger. As Stephen King once said: ‘We make up horrors to help us cope with the real ones,’” she said.

Isn't it ironic don't you think....he waited his whole damn life just to take that boat and as the ship went down he thought, well isn't this nice
It's like rain on your wedding day, or 10,000 spoons when what you need is a fork.
Load More Replies...Not nearly as impressive as the story of stewardess and nurse Violet Jessop. She was on board of the HMS Olympic when it collided with another ship in 1911. Afterwards, she changed ships, only to be on the Titanic when it sank in 1912. When World War I started, she boarded the "Britannic" and survived its sinking following an explosion in 1916. I wonder if shipping lines ever considered paying her NOT to go on their ships... But according to Wikipedia she continued working for cruise lines until 1950. I would have been quite nervous to be on a ship with her, I think...
Quite the opposite. I would be glad to be with someone who knows how to survive.

The small stuffed toy, at the foot of the steps to the Orthodox Church that overlooks the remains of the town. The half melted dolls impaled on tree branches. When speaking about horror writing, Lauren says that this genre is often misunderstood. “When I say I write horror, I’m often greeted with a raised eyebrow - people assume I am obsessed with slasher movies and want to write the next installment of the Saw franchise, that I love a bit of gore.”
However, that’s far from the case. As a horror writer, Lauren is way more interested in exploring the quieter sides of horror, “especially gothic and folk horror which takes its cues from folklore and traditions.”
Now I'm imagining death sitting there checking the manifest like "wtf Brian, you were supposed to die with everyone else".

I guess it depends a lot on the circumstances of his accident. Was he driving recklessly? Stress or depression could lead to carelessness
Something similar happened to my great grandfather in illinois biggest mine explosion in 1918. One man wasn't feeling well so didn't go w his coworkers down into the mine that day and all of them were killed. The man who didn't go down died later that day from a heart attack.
That's really not a fair comparison. Most high school students are stressed because they're worried about the future and have too much work/studying to do. Most asylum patients either had untreated mental conditions or were stressed because they were confined in terrible living conditions with others who had untreated mental conditions. Totally different types of stress.
I totally believe it, but I'd love to see the research, like how did they measure?
Load More Replies...Hmmm. I’d have to see a legit study before I believe this. If it true, wow.
Look, we need more details. Was there pizza? Nobody goes to a party without pizza. Also, one experiment is not conclusive evidence!
You are right. Maybe he just throws terrible parties. Time travelers would know this.
Load More Replies...For someone so smart, I'm surprised he forgot about causality loops. He sent the invites for an event that happened 'yesterday' meaning he was already on a timeline where no one would be able to turn up except time travellers who would travel back before the current timeline and create a new timeline where we all attended which he caused to happen by looping time back on itself on an already established timeline creating a synchronized parallel timeline. This is also what causes feelings of déjà vu as certain elements of both timelines are matched perfectly and 'cross over' and... oh fu......
If you evolved that line of thought correctly you could plot out a pretty entertaining sci fi best seller fiction novel. Go you
Load More Replies...One day after does not provide any evidence, time travel might be possible through some break through 100 or 1000 years from now...
That logic doesn't hold up, because the *knowledge* of the party won't go away. Stephen Hawking's name will always be legendary in the world of physics; human nature doesn't change. Any scientist given the chance to visit someone so pivotal would jump at the chance.
Load More Replies...Or it shows that in the future human civilization will deteriorate to such an extent that none of our history and communication will survive. Beings in the future will never have heard of Hawking or know about the date of this party. Maybe they can time travel just fine but don't realize there was this awesome party they could travel back to.
Or he invited the wrong people....or maybe it still will happen. Its is time travel. SH coukd be reliving that party day every day. Just in another dimension. I like to break movies down, like "this could not happen because blah blah" but time travel movies mess with me big time. Just trying to wrap my head around the what ifs. I have watched interstellar dozens of times. Stresses me out.
Load More Replies...This is just stupid. How would he know who was able to time travel? Or when it would happen. Or ... If they gave a c**p about him. Lol
and nobody thinks that Crook made it all up to look more interesting?
He must have been a time traveller, but why did he not go to Stephen Hawkins party?
why was his bodyguard not with him at the theater? was it not his shift?
Helen Marlo, a licensed clinical psychologist and Jungian psychoanalyst and a Professor of Clinical Psychology and the Department Chair at Notre Dame de Namur University, also told Bored Panda in a previous interview that most of us are painfully aware that darkness, what some call evil, exists.
“We may satisfy some human, psychological needs when we engage with it through the news, movies, or documentaries,” she said.

This was rejected because they felt that the design would overshadow Ralph Fiennes' performance and have shrunk Voldemort's responsibility and agency as a villain.
How? This is from first movie which was made before last books were even written, so they cannot know that Ralph Fiennes will be in that movie.
Load More Replies...That was my thought, too. No way would all of that fit under Quirrel's turban
Load More Replies...My mom told me she had eyes in the back of her head, but this is ridiculous!
In sixth grade I had a teacher who was terrified of geese because once when she was like 20 they started attacking her so she thrashed around a tube that was laying near by and one of the geese heads came clean off. Anyways how's your day going?
And that's why grass is cut so short by them, perfect lawnmowers/mulchers
Marlo argues that “when watching another story, and in particular, these dark and traumatic stories, we witness another person’s narrative. Narrating one’s own story, especially if we have a story that includes trauma, is emotional and hard.” Meanwhile, “watching another’s story can give us a sense of gaining understanding or relief for ‘free,’ because we are hearing about another’s story but not doing any of the hard, psychological work to create our own story.”
Marlo explained that “it is a little like someone who reads a self-help book and imagines they will get better by reading about another person’s process. This is especially true if the story that we are fixated on has personal or traumatic meaning for us.”
I cannot describe on how painful this is to me and it looks cool?

I remember watching on TV at the time, as he lay slumped on the stage, the curtains were drawn quickly, and the adverts started, with no notice at all, which i thought was weird.. I found later on, next day in the papers he has died.. He was a great showman, and sorely missed...
His type of comedy didn't help the audience recognising what was happening. I'm sure if he was an opera singer, for example, everyone would know something was wrong (totally not blaming him, just pointing out a contributing factor to the audience not knowing something was wrong).
I still remember seeing this on TV. I was only seven years old, but it etched in my mind.
This just happened to a DJ in my country. Like 4 days ago. https://news.sky.com/story/costa-titch-dead-south-african-rapper-dies-aged-28-after-collapsing-on-stage-at-festival-12832058
He was a truly genius comedian, probably not known the US. He had a funny pretend laugh, and before he came out on stage he would do it into a microphone. The audience would be in stitches even before he came on stage. I also remember watching this on TV. Ididn't know at the time what was wrong, but knew something breally bad had happened.
The same can be said for Redd foxx sadly to all my enjoyers of the good ol days of tv
I believe Netflix has a documentary. It was fascinating and I’m still on the fence if he faked it or was real.
My brain is like a toilet seat: I only have enough room for one arsehole.
So... he had minor DID? Some people with DID have over 200 alters he isn't very unique there
This honestly would be so cool to study, dual personalities have always fascinated me
And the defense attorney said Milligan wasn't guilty of rape because a female alter was in charge at the time.
So you have the Gambinos, the Luccheses, the Colombos, the Genoveses, the Bonannos, and the sixth family, Billy
Moreover, becoming immersed in another’s dark story can be a vicarious version of what psychologists call, ‘identification with the aggressor.’ “Rather than being the victim, one identifies with the aggressor and their story, and can displace unthinkable, dark impulses onto the person they are viewing, who may be doing things they may not be able to think about but wish to do.”
Marlo explained that “they may also feel more powerful, safer, strong, dominant, and in control by viewing another doing unthinkable things but they are watching and don’t have to act it out in their real life where it would have negative consequences internally and externally.”
Yeah I've been watching Jojos Bizarre Adventure lately so I'd go with DO NOT TOUCH THE MASKS IN MEXICO! Just leave them be
I believe they had used leeches in him? Then due to their anticoagulant saliva, it probably kept him from clotting and, instead, bleeding out more than he should have. My understanding was it started from a headache though.
Load More Replies...It was not a sore throat, that is false, that was just one of his symptoms. He had Pneumonia with a severe throat infection from riding his horse in freezng rain in December and then keeping the wet clothing on for hours after. The blood letting was something done at the time to supposedly get out "bad blood" to allow the body to produce new. He was also given an enema and a emetic as part of his treatment process as well. The bloodletting was done over a 2 day period, where each letting never let out more than a few ounces at a time. We are unsure which specific thing killed him, the blood loss is a theory
Dehydration maybe, from those "medical " treatments?

If you believe in the Catholic theology that the mass literally presents Jesus Christ at the moment of Resurrection throughout all time, and that masses are (among other thngs) effective prayers to bring the deceased to Heaven, the desire to have a Church as your "final resting place" makes sense. On a simpler level, people love the mass so much they always want to be present to it.

We recognize our friends still, no worries, though I'd never be able to draw their faces. Imagine everybody else recognized people by their hands or elbows, but you can't do it. You simply look at those things that you can differentiate.
Load More Replies...After my stroke I didn't develop prosopagnosia, but rather something called aphantasia which is the inability to form pictures in your brain. I only know what people look like when I am directly looking at them and the moment they turn away I have no idea what they look like. This is especially hard when I can't remember what my loved ones look like.
I can understand this feeling, I don’t recognize the people I see in places that are not associated with them, ex : I didn’t recognize my sister when I met her in a store that she doesn’t frequent :/
yep me too. If I don't see someone at their desk and they greet me at the shops it takes me a bit of talking before I know who they are, it's horrifying.

I have almost overdosed on this medication a few times because I can't remember if I took the tablets, so I take more, just in case. Memory is a serious problem. The only food source for the snakes there are sea birds, that's why they developed a faster acting venom in comparisson to their mainland relatives after the island got cut off by rising sea levels
What happens if you place a group of mongoose there? Would it balance the food chain? Just a thought... :D
No. The mongoose basically only attacks cobras which are much slower striking than these vipers. These guys would probably wipe out the mongooses in a big hurry.

No one is quite sure how they got there in the first place. In less than 100 years they have evolved to have bigger jaws because their main food is seagull chicks. An interesting fact is that most of them are blind because the seagulls have pecked their eyes out, defending their chicks. https://australiatravelquestions.com/islands/carnac-island-snakes/

Proof the education system and the evaluation system for our education needs some work done Edit:thx everyone for the insightful replies...thinking about what everyone said...it makes alot of sense but i dont think i expressed my view in clear detail..although i wholeheartedly agree that it could also be the parents fault, stupidity or even the individual suffering mental illness...but what I mean when I say needs evaluation is that considering it was a teenager he should be more aware of what he is doing,if the teen was "stupid" then it is a different case but considering the age factor and the fact that most teenagers are actually aware of the fact that such substances are dangerous and the movies are based off pure fiction..also i would like to clarify that this would be in the case of it being an individual who is receiving education...i also agree that proof maybe a strong word but during my thought process it was more like an example on why the system should be reevaluated
Nope. I mean it needs work, but I'm pretty sure this guy was crazy not ignorant and misled.

First of all, you need adamantium, not mercury, and the spiders have to be radioactive! What's next? He eats a bunch of heart shaped leaves to gain the powers of the black panther?
I live in Japan. We used to have bunches of these things in the trees near where I work, and for many years, we didn't have screens on the windows, and they were constantly getting inside. Poor things would come in, but then when trying to leave, would crawl around on the window trying to figure out whey they couldn't get out again. I used to get them to crawl on cardboard or similar and help them out. Because I don't threaten them (and don't jump around screaming and waving my arms), I'm no more important to them than a table, since I have no pollen. I've found them to be pretty docile if I'm gentle with them. I mean, imagine if you were walking past a 20 story building and it suddenly started jumping around and screaming! Just remain calm, think peaceful thoughts, project to it a feeling of harmlessness, be gentle and patient. It's not that big a deal. American Yellow Jackets on the other hand can gladly go extinct! Speaking of miles, they fly 25 of them per hour, so you prolly won't ACTUALLY make that miles long run before they get you. Finally, it seems they've began to learn to target our eyes. Out of curiosity, why would you take a photo of your murdered husbands glasses?
This is such a powerful image. If you didn't know the photographer was the victim's wife, would you still be weirded out? Why does it matter that Yoko Ono was the photographer? Really it hardly even matters whose glasses they are. Just the image of the glasses worn by someone who was killed by gun violence. We don't need to see the body in order to feel a kind of abyss open up in our stomachs when we imagine what this person may have experienced in their final moments.
John and Yoko first met at the gallery own by a friend of John’s where she was showing an exhibition of her work. In o E room, she had set a stepladder in the middle of the room, whist all over the ceiling were small pieces of paper hanging from a thread.
