50 Creepy Facts About The World We Live In That Prove Reality Is Scarier Than Fiction
InterviewSome people’s brains enjoy experiencing fear, while others, not so much. It all comes down to brain chemistry, as those who enjoy thrilling, scary, and risky situations get a dopamine kick out of such experiences.
We believe our pandas to be very brave, that’s why we compiled a whole list of creepy and borderline scary facts, courtesy of the ‘Creepy Information’ Instagram account. Scroll down to find them below, and don’t say that we didn’t warn ya!
While you're at it, don't forget to check out a conversation with Sadie Hartmann, horror lover, author, and co-owner of Night Worms, who kindly agreed to chat with us about all things creepy and frightening.

Interest in fear-inducing or potentially dangerous things is called morbid curiosity.
“That could be things that are fictionally dangerous, that kind of tap into our minds a little bit, or things that are actually dangerous, like the things we read on the news or hear about from others,” explained behavioral scientist Dr. Coltan Scrivner.
Interestingly enough, he says that most people have a pretty moderate amount of morbid curiosity.
The mirror would later escape and terrorize thousands of people before a military strike finally brought it down.
Now in storage for future display at the Trump Presidential Library. Oh, wait - they probably already have enough mirrors there.

Dr. Scrivner even came up with his own Morbid Curiosity Scale and test to evaluate how many people are morbidly curious, which you can also take here, if you’re curious!
During it, he presents his respondents with statements like, ‘If a head transplant was possible, I would want to watch the procedure’ and ‘I am curious how a Ouija board works’ and asks them to rank them from ‘strongly disagree’ to ‘strongly agree.’
From this test and his research, he was able to find out that most people are morbidly curious. “Some people have a lot and some people have a little bit, and this has been true not just in the U.S. but in other countries as well, including Canada, Brazil, Denmark, and several other countries that have taken this test.”

I love how the name of this animal is so opposite to its character.
Honey Badgers are bad*ss survivors and don't give a flying Philadelphia f*ck. They're scary.
After completing the test itself, I found out that the overall morbid curiosity score is 4.42, and since the maximum on the scale is 6, we can say that people are pretty morbidly curious.
But, hey! It’s nothing to be worried about. “I think morbid curiosity is sometimes talked about as if it’s this fringe trait or a fringe thing that only some people have. But in all the research I’ve done, if you give people, for example, the Morbid Curiosity Scale, you find that morbid curiosity is pretty normally distributed, meaning that most people have a pretty moderate amount of morbid curiosity,” said Dr. Scrivner.

Seatbelts DO save lives. I wouldn't be typing this if it were untrue!

When seatbelts became more commonplace, I recall hearing adults say they refused to wear them because they believed the seat belts would trap them inside a wreck.

Load More Replies...Imagine someone telling you that a monkey could do your job then actually being able to prove it 😬
Through his research, he also found out that only a small part of horror fandom seeks out scary experiences because they get an adrenaline or dopamine rush. Most do it because they feel like they can learn something from it.
“A lot of people feel as if they learned something about themselves and sort of develop as a person through these experiences. And so you hear about this in real tragedies a lot, this kind of post-traumatic growth or ‘I’m glad I went through this so that, because I learned something and I grew as a person,’ Dr. Scrivner explained.
I was there. Funny enough, it is NOT on a hill, but in a valley. You have to walk down to get there. Reason is: trade routes intersected in this valley, which were monitored by the lords of the castle.

Ircc, Stallone also insisted that Hulk Hogan hit him for real, to his detriment.
But Sylvester Stallone had steroids (probably) and played a good boxer!! 😲 What did the other actor have except a 3rd degree blackbelt, two wins in European karate Championships and participating in the world championship and working as a bodyguard 🤷 What could go wrong?? /s (Stallone is an idiot forcing a newbie actor doing something he/Dolph absolutely knew from experience was a bad idea. But what could he say to a moviestar?)
Load More Replies...Starting out as an actor he probably couldn't say no to the star of the movie. Stallone is an idiot. Having a 3rd belt, two time winner of the European karate championship, and thinking "I can take it"? 🤦
Load More Replies...Absolutely agree. What could a newbie actor do if one of the biggest movie stars at the time ordered him, say no and get fired?
Load More Replies...An actor challenging a REAL FIGHTER is a REALLY BAD idea. Dolph Lundgren has a 3rd-degree black belt in Kyokushin karate, won the European Championships in 1980 and 1981, and even competed in the World Karate Championships. 🤦 Also, how could he say no as an actor newbie to the biggest star at the time? 🤷
Seriously? He wasn't a draft dodger. He actually tried to enlist twice (under his legal name - Sylvester is his middle name) in Florida and again in Philadelphia. He was denied enlistment both times because he had medical issues that caused him to not pass the physical - doctors used forceps on him during birth, which caused paralysis of the lower left side of his face (including parts of his lip, tongue, and chin) which gave him his signature snarling look and slurred speech.
Load More Replies...To find out more about why people like morbid, creepy, and scary things, Bored Panda reached out to Sadie Hartmann, horror lover, author, and co-owner of Night Worms.
She tells us that what draws her to horror is the fact that it helps her manage her anxieties.
"I am an anxious person who manages a lot of fears and phobias, so reading horror is a way I get to live adventurously without too much risk involved. I might have a nightmare or feel like I need to lock all my windows and doors, but for the most part, reading horror allows me to engage with real-life fears in a healthy and safe way."

I was walking back home one late afternoon after getting groceries from a nearby supermarket and there were no people except the people who came out of the dark mall with me. Then I was all alone on a deserted street. I've ever seen my city that quiet, that bereft of people and as I look around I felt that I'm seeing the end of civilization. It was the worst day ever.

Sadie also shares that her favorite kind of scary stories to consume are about people who have gone missing in national parks.
"Many of these people have never been found, and their cases have gone cold or unsolved for decades.
Sometimes the ones who have been found have no memory of what happened or have something odd about them, like they aren't wearing shoes but their feet are relatively clean, or they are way too many miles away from their last known location. It's just a very unsettling topic with a lot of information that completely freaks me out."

Oh I just read about this, he was the chef on board, found an air pocket and sat at the bottom of the sea never expecting to be rescued.
I remember when this happened. This is truly one of my worst nightmares.
Load More Replies...I saw the video of his rescue. The rescuers were not expecting to find a survivor (they were there to collect the deceased), and it scared the sh!t out of them, and they had to improvise in how to get him out safely because they hadn't brought any gear to save a survivor. But the rescue was successful, and the survivor decided to change careers and become a rescuer himself!
Now see, THIS is who should get free help and things thrown at him to make up for the world being so terrible to him, not a bunch of fairly useless celebrities for showing up to a big party. (Sorry. I was just thinking of how they get free goodie bags for all kinds of luxurious goods all because they get dressed up in their beautiful expensive mansions by other famous people wearing gowns and jewels and gold that other companies made for them to wear. Why? What do they need a $20,000 gift bag when they could just buy the stuff. Give it to people who have gone through things like this, this man deserves a comfortable home in the middle of a giant landmass if he wants, after that! )
Whilst I agree on the pets thing - tbf standard pets like dogs and cats (assuming they’re not overfed) are pretty “jacked” under their fur. It’s a normal mammalian trait.
Load More Replies...He's probably got something like demodectic mange-cats and dogs get mange and it makes their fur fall out.
Load More Replies...it's creepy how that hairless chimp looks almost like just some naked guy
Chimps are honestly terrifying. I remember seeing in a nature show how they chased a smaller species of monkey and killed it. We also had a story in my home country, one of the zoo's had a chimp enclosure but you could only see the chimps from above on sort of a bridge and they had a big compound with a tree in the middle. There was a guy who was cleaning the enclosure from above with some sort of stick and kept bugging the baby, like poking at it. The dad chimpanzee got made and climbed the stick,he assaulted the guy,I heard he tore his balls off and the guy ran away and hid in the bathroom until the cops came and shot the poor chimp.
Some say that too much of a good thing is a bad thing, so we were curious to know if Sadie thinks that it pertains to consuming scary or creepy content as well.
"I think it's just the opposite. I believe that horror fiction's greatest mission is to raise the stakes high enough to get readers emotionally invested in the plight of the characters. Horror activates our empathy.
It's my understanding that people who write and read a lot of horror are some of the most empathetic, caring, and generous people I know," she says.
The sign says Zero Star Hotel. If that's an indicator, I'd rather not stay there.
Due to their geography, their infrastructure is largely inside mountains. Literally, inside of mountains. It's wild. From a train to Lucerne, I once saw a huge cargo plane fly out of the side of a mountain and then the hanger door closed, camouflaged with its surroundings. I'm not making this up.
Is that because the Swiss have a lot of bunker space or because Switzerland is low on citizens?
The hotel may have no stars but in case of a nuclear attack, who cares about stars!

The first picture is a Shoebill not a Pelican. What a wonderful bird is the Pelican. His beak can hold more than his belican. He can hold in his beak enough food for a week but I'm dãmmed if I know how the helican.
Shoebills and pelicans do belong to the same Order (Pelecaniformes) but they're not that closely related XD It's interesting that both species can do this; makes me wonder if other Pelecaniformes can as well.

The KTHI tower in North Dakota is 1080 feet high ()329 meters if you count on your fingers) It had a hollow television antenna about 20 feet high and about should width in diameter. To fix an internal problem, a man was lowered head first into the antenna. Think about it.
Imagine getting all the way to the top, changing the bulb, getting back down, flicking the switch and finding the bulb doesn't work
I live not far from this guy! It’s in Salem South Dakota and his name is Kevin Schmidt
I have a fairy lights lightbulb that has lasted on my front porch for going on 6 years.
Men who change lights on radio antennae have to make a running jump onto the antenna from the ground. The entire tower emits RF current that would fry him if he touched the antenna while grounded. In the 1960s they made about $100 per antenna.
I'd willingly do this - it looks so fun and the pay's not bad either! More exciting than an office job, that's for certain!

Load More Replies...That was my first thought. What selfish moron thinks it's OK to have a wild animal in an apartment. Pure cruelty!
Load More Replies...The "owner" was some nut who was trying to have a zoo in his Harlem apartment. He was killed by the tiger, which was wholly deserved in my opinion.
From wiki- Ming was a tiger that was found living in an apartment in Harlem, New York City, in October 2003, when he was approximately three years old. Ming lived semi-openly with his owner, Antoine Yates, in a room of Yates' five-bedroom apartment on the fifth floor of a large public housing complex in Harlem. Several other normal and exotic pets were found in the apartment, including an alligator named Al in another bedroom. Ming was taken to Noah's Lost Ark Animal Sanctuary in Berlin Center, Ohio, where he died from natural causes in February 2019. He was buried at the Hartsdale Pet Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York. Yates received a 5-month prison sentence for reckless endangerment.
The guy who did this should have been eaten by the tiger and gator he kept. Gross
A 'pet' tiger living in an apartment ..that is cruelty to the max..I hope it ate the captors. I guess they had it declawed as well, poor thing.I also hope it was rescued and taken to a sanctuary to live life as near to nature as possible.
The way she copes with it is by watching cartoons. "The best way for me to cope with this overwhelming sense of dread or darkness is to watch cartoons (like The Regular Show or King of the Hill), comedy shows (like The Righteous Gemstones) or something wholesome (like The Great British Baking Show). Dang, that guy must be something! These women were born and grew up in the "one child" era; boys were considered more valuable and as such so many female children were victims of infanticide or were abandoned and adopted out of the country there is still a shortage of marriage age women. Is a thing that some Chinese men come to the US and attempt to connect to these adopted woman to find marriage partners. Most of these women do not want to live in China or with the traditional mail in power structure of the families so they are frequently turned away.

Nope, it’s the right picture :) “Stander had been in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, trying to arrange for the sale of the gang's recently purchased sailing yacht-the Lilly Rose-that they planned to use for their final getaway once they had acquired enough money. On 10 February 1984, police pulled Stander over while he was driving and arrested him for driving an unregistered vehicle. Being relatively unknown to the American authorities at that time, Stander presented his false ID to the police, who recognized it as a forgery and subsequently seized it-adding driver's license forgery to his list of offenses-but believed his story about his identity and released him.”

Species survival. Let's not assign human concepts like monogamy to animals. And while this can happen there's plenty of male foxes with multiple females or finding another female after their mate d!es.
Yep. It's the same reason why the females of many species (including many mammals) will abandon a litter of offspring in times of famine/stress/threat. Better for a single litter of offspring to perish rather than a breeding-age female to die, as the adult female will produce offspring again. It sounds horrible to us humans, but we're societal creatures who have other members of our "society" to help look out for our offspring and hopefully provide food (plus we generally only produce a few singleton offspring within our lifespans, vs. a cat or fox who will have many litters with many cubs/kittens, so our offspring are more individually "valuable" to our species.)
Load More Replies...Anthropomorphize - attribute human characteristics or behaviors to an animal. All humans are animals but not all animals are humans.
Kinda makes sense, vixens are only fertile for 3 days every year so not having a partner during that time means no offspring for the other 362 days
Actually, their estrus lasts anywhere from one to six days, making three days the average, not the absolute.

Load More Replies...The thing i hate is it took so long to catch him. He will only spend a couple of years in prison before he dies. Mongrel.
OK---When I see your stupid censored words---I am done...........
Looks like an oldish photo - hopefully they just took a picture of it and then sanded it off. :/

Load More Replies..."According to the boy's mother, Lillian McDonald, the boy had wandered out of the family's yard. She called the police, and authorities began searching for the boy. A woman named Beverly Murdock ran to a police station to report that she spotted a baby in the ocean, in a seaweed patch. She described the boy's clothing and it matched what Lillian had told police. John McDonald [the father] ran back and forth on the beach and Lilian restrained him from dashing into the ocean. The boy was not immediately found, and the search was suspended that night. John and Lillian refused to leave the beach even when it became too dark to search. The child's body was not found until April 12, which was ten days after his disappearance. On April 12, 1954, a woman spotted the boy's body bobbing on the surf near her home. Her home was more than 1 mi (1.6 km) away from where the boy had gone missing; she pulled the body from the water and called the police."
Thanks Lakota. That’s horrifying, that poor family :(

Load More Replies...Unfortunately, this piece of sh!t entered an Alford plea (which is a guilty plea entered in criminal court, whereby a defendant in a criminal case does not admit to the criminal act and asserts innocence, but accepts imposition of a sentence.) So unfortunately the prosecution couldn't even pursue the death penalty. Sessoms was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

"At most, the chairs skim along the side of the mountain about 30-50 feet off the ground. In some places, as little as 20 feet separate rider from earth." - you absolutely CAN die from a 20-30 foot drop.

Dogs were protecting their territory. Why is dogs acting like dogs a surprise?
My dog wouldn't not k**l/bite an intruder. Likely ask for a belly rub.

that look on the first dogs face like "and i'd do it again"
The man was an intruder. The dogs were protecting their territory. Many breeds of dog would do this.
Lot of people seem to think the punishment for a small crime should be murder. That strikes me as insane and very disturbing. Maga stuff.
Is it really murder? He broke into a house and the dogs got him. Murder is a human action.

On average, it is less than 8 people per year, even if we take it conservatively and put 66 years of work (actually it was closer to 68.5). I also got really interested in his age - he worked as executioner for almost 70 years. My thought process was - either he started really early, or lived and was strong for quite long time. So, he was born on 1779 and started serving as executioner after his 17th birthday. He left this position being 85, and died being 90. That is impressive even with current medical achievements.
One disturbing aspect is that in college they had to pay two tuitions, but now they get a single salary.
I don’t know why this is labeled “disturbing and unsettling”.
Because as liberal as we want to be, as much as we wish them well, seeing a two headed woman is a bizarre sight. How could it not be?

Purely for the sake of debate, is this two people with one body or one person with two heads? Discuss.
There's no debate at all. They have two separate brains, thus are two separate people sharing one lower body. The body could have 45 heads, and as long as each brain was separate and not conjoined, that head/brain would be a separate person.
Load More Replies...Graphic Warning - A Muscatine, Iowa, woman accused of sexually molesting her 8-year-old son on tape and selling the video to a Valparaiso-area man has pleaded not guilty and demanded her right to a speedy trial. Her trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 18. Jessica Rochelle Peters, 33, entered the written plea Sept. 13 in Muscatine County District Court. Peters was arrested after Henry Winchip, 76, of the Valparaiso area, was arrested for allegedly paying Peters for photos and videos of the act. He faces felony charges of child exploitation and possession of child pornography. The boy told investigators his father forced them to do the videos and that his mother "fake child molested him." The father had not been charged. The child said the videos were shot at their apartment and a hotel where they lived in Muscatine. The boy said his father would sometimes hold the phone to record the videos, and other times his mother would record the videos when they were alone.
But, it'll make you forget all about the headache you were suffering! 😂

Please check it out, American serial killers just get a lot of media coverage.

I guess you've never been to Florida. They frequently bask/nap in the day and hunt at night. The water is fairly warm year round. And, they were avoiding him, not the other way around. I'm sure you can dispell your scepticism with a book, bookworm

People who knew her say she started acting out violently at a very young age and tried running away multiple times. The whole story is not public, but there's a lot more going on here than just the headline.
Obviously. Any sane person would have stopped as soon as the victim was ded.
To be fair, it might have been a worthwhile exhibition. The gorilla gets entertained and bye bye Mike
I do not understand how someone can come back to the public eye after being convicted of r4pe!
The Gorilla would have ripped him to pieces in seconds if he decided to see Mike as a threat
Attendant would have been fired and possibly arrested for Mike's demise.
After a couple months of that he would have serious chafing.
