I have the exact reverse of this back in the 80’s/90’s in the military in Germany. I had dyed my hair, purple and shaved my head, bald, except for a purple rat tail that hung down to my waist. Hidden underneath my Army cap, of course. By the way, I am a female. And was written up 11 months later, when discovered.

It could be that the person is a fan of horror/slasher/zombie movies and just likes the aesthetic. It could be that the person got "recreations" of actual past scars/wounds to memorialize an accident (or abusive situation) that they survived. It could be that the person got recreations of past self-harm wounds to remind them of what they have overcome. It could be that the person gets tattoos that are representative of self-harm wounds to help them to NOT self-harm (if they are still struggling with self-harm.) (For some people, they can resist self-harm if they have current, healing wounds. Seeing what visually appear to be current, healing wounds could help them overcome the urge to actually self-harm.) It could also be that the person wishes to have an "outside" visible representation of internal pain and internal scars they may carry, to show that just because we may be wounded and scarred "inside", it is no less legitimate than a physical wound.

Honestly, the artwork is astoundingly good. Taste is questionable. Though, the first thing I think of these days when I see these amazing, vibrant tattoos is how tats fade and blur over time. I feel like a tat like this would look like a blurred blobby runny mess of indistinct colors in a decade or so.

Modern inks and needles prevent a lot of fading and line blow outs. This will stay fresh for some time. But of course, this is only the case if the artist buys the new ink and needles. There is still c**p out there.

While you might have the literal right to judge someone else's memorial tattoo that obviously has a lot of meaning to them, I don't think your opinion about it matters at all. This person clearly misses their mother, who passed away at a very young age. In my own opinion, if something has meaning to someone and brings them comfort, then it's never "tasteless". The only thing that actually matters is how THEY feel about it and what it means to THEM.

As I posted on another "cuts/bruises" tattoo image - there are many reasons why a person might get these tattoos. It could be that the person is a fan of horror/slasher/zombie movies and just likes the aesthetic. It could be that the person got recreations of actual past scars/wounds to memorialize an accident (or abusive situation) that they survived. It could be that the person got recreations of past self-harm wounds to remind them of what they have overcome. It could be that the person got tattoos that are representative of self-harm wounds to help them to NOT self-harm (For some people, seeing what visually appear to be current, healing wounds could help them overcome the urge to actually self-harm.) It could also be that the person wishes to have an "outside" visible representation of internal pain and internal scars they may carry, to show that just because we may be wounded and scarred "inside", it is no less legitimate than a physical wound.

I don’t think “shaming” really comes into it, or ought to. Surely most of these people got these tattoos to please themselves, not because they thought they’d be popular generally with others? I also don’t think it’s overly-shaming or somehow unfair to observe that a person who counts on being amused by a one-liner from a sitcom or a novelty t-shirt or something for the rest of their life, and wants to look at it daily on their body, probably doesn’t have much imagination, or see themselves as having a lot of capacity for intellectual growth, or somehow believes culture will remain static. Those are the worst tattoos here. Unless the people who got them are planning to have laser removal, they’re basically counting on themselves to never change, or daring themselves not to. Is it overly “negative” to observe that some people don’t have very mature views of themselves and the world around them?

None of these come ANYWHERE CLOSE to the worst tattoo I've ever seen. Please trust me when I say that I am doing you a favor by not telling what it depicted, or where it was placed. There is not enough Unsee Juice in the world.

There are some well done tattoos here. People can get whatever they want tattooed on them. If it makes them happy then that's all that matters. Unless the tattoos are blatantly offensive there is no issue. I have some absolutely ridiculous tattoos and I am incredibly happy with them. You don't like it? Good for you 👍
