I’m Honestly Fed Up With All The Bad News, So I Illustrated 50 Of The Best Ones From 2019
We are often bombarded with fear-mongering and shocking headlines that make us feel that the world is falling apart.
However, while it’s important to report on problems and issues, I believe there is so much good in this world that it needs to be found and promoted just as widely.
Because of that, I started The Happy Broadcast. It's an anti-venom to the vitriolic rhetoric that pervades our media. Also, this year, I’ve illustrated even more happy news than in 2018.
We need more positive news to acknowledge that the world is actually getting better little by little.

When I'm working on The Happy Broadcast, I try to pick news that has an international appeal and touches themes like animal rights, climate change and science. News that shows how much we’re progressing on many fronts despite being often bombarded with few-mongering headlines.
I am so happy for their victory, but just find it bonkers that an indigenous tribe had to fight a legal battle to protect their land in the first place.
I think there are many reasons why negative news is dominating the media. It's like a sudden disaster a, it's more compelling than, for example, little improvements. Bad things can happen quickly, but good things aren’t built in a day, and as they unfold, they're out of sync with the news cycle.
As humans, we have this thing called “negative bias” that make us respond quicker to bad or dangerous situations. Nowadays, this bias is getting in the way of our happiness and well-being, and even our productivity because most of the narrative surrounding us (print, online or mobile) is that the “world is ending".
I think we should find a balance between negative and positive news. From politics to climate change and economy, negative and bad news surrounds us everywhere we go. A potential solution could be to limit the amount of bad news, basically slow down our personal news cycle, adding some positive news to our “news diet” to make sure that our outlook on the world is more optimistic. Also, it's very important to invest time to deal with misinformation and the reliability of news sources.
Hm, I think Sweden must have forgot to apply then. We dont have stray dogs, at least for decades. Any lost dog gets collected, if no owner is found it gets adopted via Animal Protection. I have seen one or two lost dogs, where we found the owner, but never a genuine stray.
SOOOO not against this! But....shouldn't it be equal pay for equal skill? (meaning, no race, gender, age, or any discrimination at all!) If you have more skill in the task, you get paid more, if you have less you get paid less. Plain and simple (yet I know it is more difficult to prove wrong-doing that way too)
Nairobi has a baby elephant orphanage. So I guess not. Of course, if they are brought up in the orphanage, which is by Nairobi National Park, then they are not sold to a zoo or circus.
This is definitely a good thing, but be careful to remember that fortnite is known for an especially toxic crunch culture. Employees are expected to work insane hours with no pay. Planting forests is good, but he should also be held responsible for the unfair and harmful working conditions his company creates.
The rabid, right-wingers still spewing their nonsense that renewables will drive prices up so high no one will be able to have electricity will not be noticing this development. The belief disconfirmation paradigm is too powerful for some people to overcome.
Glad to see them come back. Sad that they died out there in the first place.
This is nice, but it would be better if children being educated wasn’t contingent on their parents paying any sort of fee.

Maybe so but what research has been made to find out the effects seaweed has on the cows body. We already know that corn isn’t very good for them yet they are still fed a high corn diet in some countries (US particularly).
I agree. Cows are meant to eat an assortment of prairie grasses, not corn for sure as it has no nutritional value. I would like to see some studies done before they start shoving seaweed down the throats of our poor bovine friends.

You know which easy trick cuts it by 100% while also saving huge amounts of land and water? Not eating and not keeping cows.
Livestock only account for 4% of total greenhouse gas emissions. Agriculture as an industry only contributes 9% of total greenhouse gases. Electricity and Transportation account for 56% of greenhouse gas emissions. Also feeding cattle seaweed increases their iodine levels and makes their products unsuitable for human consumption.

This research is being done where I work at HIE (in Australia). They are also developing cows that can survive on less water and less feed. I'm in IT but my office is surrounded by those cattle paddocks and they are the happiest and healthiest animals I have ever seen.
Stop eating animals, stop drink their milk, eat their eggs, and you spare them immense suffering, you save the environment and a lot of money on health insurance. It's the win-win-win-situation.

99% of cows in animal agriculture also still have their throats slit, only so we can enjoy a sandwich with their flesh or baby secretions on it... Ridiculous. Please stop paying for meat and dairy.

Um most of them live far inland--the cost of seaweed supplements would be prohibitive for farmers and the subsequent rise in prices the same for consumers. Do people know that the earth is made up of more than just CO2? The CO2 haters I don't understand--CO2 is good for vegetation.

hmmm. I eat sheets of Nori (Japanese seaweed) and still fart a lot.
Eating meat still greatly contributes to destruction of the environment and undermines human health.
Not surprising as there is not the gasses associated with seaweed as there is with grass.
Better yet, the amount of cow's milk people drink is going down. Green pea "milk", woohoo.

Interesting, but what does the seaweed do for cows, or the milk ???
Cow emissions (methane gas) has a lifecycle of its own. It takes 7 years of oxygen and sunlight to breake down methane gas and after that time its back in the grass again. As the cow population has halfed from the beguining of 1900 so has the emissions - its not the cows that drive the greenhouse effect.

Seaweed has wonderful components of nutrition, can't imagine it could hurt the cows in any way.....but it appears that beef is slowly going out of our diets, at least it isn't the main stream dinner anymore. So cows won't be in such high demand. Sorry ranchers.....

Seaweed is safe for human consumption. Some people eat it for iodine. And from what I've heard, Nori is better than Spirulina. I am not an expert, though.

Look at the Highland Coos in Scotland with access to seaweed, they look very healthy and have been eating it for centuries .
How about reducing beef in particular ? Poultry and pork are better options when it comes to carbon emission

Did you considered the number of those poor animals heinously tortured and murdered??? 140 chickens murdered every minute was not fast enough, the greedy meat industry had to increase the speed of the killer lines to 175 chickens per minute. Although the use of solar panels is green, many solar panel manufacturing processes are not. To create a solar panel, caustic materials will emit greenhouse gases. Plus less than 11% of each panel has salvageable metals so they're not very recyclable once they're usable life has expired. Most people aren't aware that the 'green' alternatives often aren't.
Never understood the appeal of fur anyways. Fake fur seems to have the same affect for me than real fur, so I don't really seem the point of killing animals for it.
By then all elephants will be dead, cause hey, they have to sell before it's banned.

It is necessary, because often private investors will support male entrepreneurs over female entrepreneurs. This happens mostly due to people in power currently being predominantly male and as many studies have proven, men are much less likely to believe that women are capable of success in a serious work environment. This can be ascribed to both deliberate and subconscious sexism. It's the same argument for why people of ethnicities other than caucasian should be given benefits that equalize the playing field. A group in power will not willingly give over their own power.

Unfortunately not suitable for everyone. Myself and my brother could not live off a plant based diet. I have reactions to a lot of fruit and veg, I get itchy tongue, gums, throat, roof of my mouth and lips. My brother has a salicylate intolerance and gets quite sick eating many fruits and veg.

I think a balance is better. Transparency reduces corruption. Confidentiality "divides and conquers" unity in humanity. All CULTures reduce free thinking and truer happiness. Imagine developmentally disabled having equal power and wealth to intellectuals.
