We are often bombarded with fear-mongering and shocking headlines that make us feel that the world is falling apart.

However, while it’s important to report on problems and issues, I believe there is so much good in this world that it needs to be found and promoted just as widely.

Because of that, I started The Happy Broadcast. It's an anti-venom to the vitriolic rhetoric that pervades our media. Also, this year, I’ve illustrated even more happy news than in 2018.

We need more positive news to acknowledge that the world is actually getting better little by little.

More info: Instagram

When I'm working on The Happy Broadcast, I try to pick news that has an international appeal and touches themes like animal rights, climate change and science. News that shows how much we’re progressing on many fronts despite being often bombarded with few-mongering headlines.

I am so happy for their victory, but just find it bonkers that an indigenous tribe had to fight a legal battle to protect their land in the first place.

I think there are many reasons why negative news is dominating the media. It's like a sudden disaster a, it's more compelling than, for example, little improvements. Bad things can happen quickly, but good things aren’t built in a day, and as they unfold, they're out of sync with the news cycle.

As humans, we have this thing called “negative bias” that make us respond quicker to bad or dangerous situations. Nowadays, this bias is getting in the way of our happiness and well-being, and even our productivity because most of the narrative surrounding us (print, online or mobile) is that the “world is ending".

I think we should find a balance between negative and positive news. From politics to climate change and economy, negative and bad news surrounds us everywhere we go. A potential solution could be to limit the amount of bad news, basically slow down our personal news cycle, adding some positive news to our “news diet” to make sure that our outlook on the world is more optimistic. Also, it's very important to invest time to deal with misinformation and the reliability of news sources.

Hm, I think Sweden must have forgot to apply then. We dont have stray dogs, at least for decades. Any lost dog gets collected, if no owner is found it gets adopted via Animal Protection. I have seen one or two lost dogs, where we found the owner, but never a genuine stray.

SOOOO not against this! But....shouldn't it be equal pay for equal skill? (meaning, no race, gender, age, or any discrimination at all!) If you have more skill in the task, you get paid more, if you have less you get paid less. Plain and simple (yet I know it is more difficult to prove wrong-doing that way too)

Renewable is definitely improving! It's wonderful. The truth is that nuclear power is one of the most expensive forms of power. It costs a lot to get uranium usable. Uranium is also not a renewable product and nuclear's plutonium by-products take thousands of years to become safe.

“IRENA’s annual Renewable Capacity Statistics 2019, the most comprehensive, up-to-date and accessible figures on renewable energy capacity indicates growth in all regions of the world, although at varying speeds. While Asia accounted for 61 per cent of total new renewable energy installations and grew installed renewables capacity by 11.4 per cent, growth was fastest in Oceania that witnessed a 17.7 per cent rise in 2018. Africa’s 8.4 per cent growth put it in third place just behind Asia. Nearly two-thirds of all new power generation capacity added in 2018 was from renewables, led by emerging and developing economies.“ https://www.irena.org/newsroom/pressreleases/2019/Apr/Renewable-Energy-Now-Accounts-for-a-Third-of-Global-Power-Capacity

As we continue to improve solar cell efficiency and make safer wind turbines, renewable energy use should increase. Large scale , smart grids and better battery storage are the next big breakthroughs that need to become mainstream. Eventually power will become so cheap to harness that it will be practically free. The biggest factors will be distribution, which if done right could also be cheap. The fossil fuel cult will eventually need to be crushed so we can stop burning oil and coal altogether.

They are no more-deadly to birds than tall buildings, or picture windows. The 'energy-payback' period for constructing an average wind turbine is 3-6 months. The field of turbines in Racine County WI looks MUCH better than the now-decommissioned coal plant in Kenosha County. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S096014810900055X

Although the use of solar panels is green, many solar panel manufacturing processes are not. To create a solar panel, caustic materials will emit greenhouse gases. Plus less than 11% of each panel has salvageable metals so they're not very recyclable once they're usable life has expired. Most people aren't aware that the 'green' alternatives often aren't.

The UK should be prefectly capable of producing sufficient renewable energy from wind, solar and water. It doesn't need to be sunny, it's frequently very windy and the UK is surrounded by water as it's a pretty small island.

Lovely how highlighting the progress made paves way for addressing the challenges that remain. If few deaths could be prevented, many more are possible.

Pirates are pirates because they feel it's the best, or only way to put food on the table. It's not because they are evil. This is a much better solution than locking people up.

Testing on just cosmetics is a get around as they test on ingredients in the cosmetics - both need banning.

People are asking why this matters, here's why: Women are still getting fewer opportunities to direct movies, and even if there would be women who could make amazing movies, they're sidelined by some of the male directors that are really mediocre and produce cheap cash grab movies.

This! Early detection is where the majority of money should go. I don't donate to cancer cure research because it's a horribly ineffective way to save lives. Trillions of dollars and we still don't have a cure, whereas early detection devices save all kinds of people.

Tropical rainforests don't help climate change anyway. They are almost a zero sum game because they contain so much animal life. The oceans have a way, way, way bigger impact.

I like this. To get social assistance or a job, you need a bank account. To get a bank account, you need an address, to get an address you need home which means you need social assistance or a job. It's a vicious circle.

I try to bring my own bags or use paper at all costs. I'd even be ok with stores saving their big boxes and letting me carry my groceries in those so I can just recycle the box when I get home. Plastic bags drive me CRAZY!!!

It is necessary, because often private investors will support male entrepreneurs over female entrepreneurs. This happens mostly due to people in power currently being predominantly male and as many studies have proven, men are much less likely to believe that women are capable of success in a serious work environment. This can be ascribed to both deliberate and subconscious sexism. It's the same argument for why people of ethnicities other than caucasian should be given benefits that equalize the playing field. A group in power will not willingly give over their own power.

Unfortunately not suitable for everyone. Myself and my brother could not live off a plant based diet. I have reactions to a lot of fruit and veg, I get itchy tongue, gums, throat, roof of my mouth and lips. My brother has a salicylate intolerance and gets quite sick eating many fruits and veg.
