Savers, or Value Village in Canada, the managers absolutely suck at flagging vintage pieces if they're obscure enough to not be super well-known, such as an old Hudson Bay blanket. That stuff is usually priced gouged and reserved for their "showcase". Some of their pieces in "showcase" are not that special nor valuable at all. I've learned not to rely on that, and I've observed a lot of the resellers don't bother with that area, either.

For example, according to the 2024 Thrift Report from Value Village (the largest for-profit thrift operator in Canada for value-priced pre-owned clothing, accessories, and housewares), 90 percent of Canadian consumers have engaged with a thrift store through shopping, donating, or both (up from 83 percent in 2022); nearly one in three have thrifted in the past year alone, and more than 40 percent of Gen Z are regular thrifters.

LOL, I wore that exact same dress as a bridesmaid. And I gave it to Goodwill. 🤣 I'm a bit bigger so that can't be mine, but it could be from a fellow bridesmaid. All 3 of the bridesmaid dresses I wore for different weddings got donated. Such a waste of fabric.

I have always wanted to know what happened to the butterflies my great uncle preserved when he was stationed in Darwin during WWII. I have a photo of some of them but that's all.

FROM THE ORIGINAL POST - I was able to unscrew the bottom parts of the urns and found the company who helped these pups pass, as well as the owner's last name and the dates of the pets' passing. It turned out to be a mix up of donation/packing boxes as the owners were moving away. Got them reunited with one day to spare before they left the state 💪

I donate my no longer used handbags to charity (designer and otherwise. If it's not being used, it'll go when I have a ruthless purge). I like to think that they find people like this that appreciate them, as opposed to resellers, though not sure how good my chances are. I need to clean out my cupboards again... anyone want handbags? 😆

Thrift shops aren't just about helping poor people, they're also very much about helping the environment. We are destroying the earth with how much stuff we produce, throwing stuff away when someone else could use it, means wasting more resources and creating bigger landfills. Many people donate mainly to help the environment, in which case it doesn't matter how rich the new owner is. And people also donate because it's a beautiful object that could make someone else happy, and for that it also doesn't matter if the new owner is poor or not.
