50 Times FB Marketplace Shined With The Most Unhinged Entries That People Just Had To Share (New Pics)
InterviewI am sure you have thought at least once of giving away or selling some items that are just lying around and collecting dust. And that is great; it is so much better for the environment and for people with fewer funds who can’t afford new stuff. Luckily, in the internet age, selling or buying from people you don’t necessarily know has become way more accessible than ever before. However, there will always be the ones who are a bit out of touch with reality when it comes to pricing their items, especially when they are literal garbage.
This brings us to the good (bad) old Facebook Marketplace finds where a tree branch is unapologetically listed as a ‘wine bottle tree’, and most generic plush toys, for whatever reason, are priced at 2000 bucks. These and other more outrageous listings that you will find down below were found on a Facebook page called “That's it, I'm Marketplace Shaming”, whose founder and one of the admins, KristL, created it for the sake of humor.
So, Pandas, let’s dive into the internet ‘treasures’ that rightfully deserve a bit of shaming.

I honestly love the naive, abstract style and would support this kid by buying one of these drawings. Hope the kid never gives up on it‘s hobby! I assume IT IS A CHILD, right?
There’s been this rumor going around for at least the past decade that the original Disney VHS films (in the white cases) are rare & collectors items. Supposedly even more valuable if the movie was ever on moratorium. They’re not hard to find at thrift stores anywhere. And if folks start pulling them out of boxes in their attics, we’d be swarming copies. This is a case of urban legend coming to life. And a silly one at that.
Well, you can't blame them for trying since some VHS tapes do sell for those sorts of sums. But unless they are extremely rare movies, you would need to have a limited edition issue in mint condition to get those sorts of figures, not something watch umpteen times. But if you do have a VHS tape somewhere, just don't open it.
There are 20 films whose original 80s/90s VHS tape are valued at over $1000. IF THEY ARE MINT (and original shrink wrap, unopened, with original stickers). Number one is the original 1984 VHS release of Star Wars a new Hope. Followed by 1990s teenage mutant ninja turtles. Of the top 20 valued at over $1000, five of them are Disney. For the remaining 80 on the list of the top 100 the prices average between $50 and $1000, with the median being $50. So, if any of you think you have any of the top 20, you’ve got something of slight value. By the way, the current value of number one, Star Wars, a new Hope, in the sealed plastic wrap with the original marketing stickers is worth $35,000. If it is opened or missing any of the stickers, it is worth approximately $750. There’s some great websites out there that can help you price your VHS tapes. If you want to waste your time for something that’s likely not worth more than five dollars.

This list sure does look scary, but we assure you, both Facebook Marketplace and any vintage stores that sell secondhand furniture and other stuff have a great selection of items that are worth checking out. So to get more of an idea of how one can start their journey in thrifting and upcycling projects, Bored Panda reached out to Sarah Ramberg, the owner of the website Sadie Seasongoods, which celebrates all things secondhand. There she shares various upcycling ideas, thrifted decor, or vintage-centric travel itineraries and after thrifting for her whole new house, she has more than enough experience, so make sure to visit her blog if you are feeling thrift-curious. Besides that, Sarah is also the author of the book “Crafting with Flannel” which you can find here.
Sarah’s blog is known for its emphasis on repurposing and upcycling. We asked her to share a specific project where she has transformed a thrifted find into a stunning repurposed piece.
“One of my favorite upcycling projects was this industrial side table I created from VHS tapes storage drawers. Similar tables were being created from metal files (which I didn't have and couldn't find affordably), so I decided to recreate the look with a much cheaper alternative. Once I accumulated what I needed - the drawers from a thrift store, a piece of plywood, spray paint, adhesive and hairpin legs - it was a fairly straightforward project. Making those plastic storage drawers look like metal was key - and spray paint was the right choice to make that happen! Once they were painted, it was just a matter of gluing them together on top of the plywood and then adding the legs underneath. I love showing off the 'before' and 'after' because avid thrifters know how common those old tape storage boxes are - and how rarely they get repurposed,” wrote Sarah.

Nah. I think there should be a range of different bears in bottles...

As now you all know, online thrifting often comes with challenges, such as assessing quality and authenticity. Since Sarah has had her fair share of purchases, we asked her how she ensures that the items online meet her standards for both crafting potential and sustainability. Sarah explained: “If I'm looking at furniture or higher quality furnishings (vases, paintings, etc.), I expect the listing to include photos of a maker's mark, if there is one. On furniture, this is usually found underneath (such as on tables or chairs) or on the inside of drawers. But, alas, not all pieces are marked - and they can still be good quality without a recognizable maker. While weight isn't a guarantee of quality, it's also another good indicator of a piece that is well-made; however, heavier items come with pricier shipping. And when in doubt, try Google Lens - it's such a great tool for helping me identify pieces without a maker's mark.”
My friend in Canada turns her back yard in to a rink during the winter. It's really neat! Her kids all play hockey so it gets a lot of use.
“Does it come with ice?” Sure, but you have to wait until winter for it. Not for sale outside winter snow areas.
I actually know the feeling of being left with something like this in the backyard. I had a house that was on a corner, and I had no idea when I moved in that it was basically in a wind tunnel. I had a nice playground built for my kids out back and it was destroyed the first time a storm came through. I was left with a big rectangular patch of wooden landscape lumber on the sides, and the rest was mulch. What a mistake that was. I watched my trampoline go up in the air and hover like a ufo, before landing in a pond. 😂
In a twist of luck, someone came by and asked if he could haul away all the lumber for free, and I said great. Saved me a lot of trouble and I hope he was able to do something useful with it.

Nowadays, more and more people are intrigued by the idea of starting their own repurposing projects. However, more often than not, they can get overwhelmed. We asked Sarah to give a piece of advice to beginners who want to venture into upcycling using thrifted items.
“I often get asked questions like this and always have the same answer: just about anything can become a planter, especially with artificial plants. So, upcycled planters are a great place to start - head to a thrift store and look for a 'holder', whether it's a bowl, a teacup, a basket, or even a cute pair of boots! Real plants thrive in planters with proper drainage, of course - but artificial plants can 'grow' in anything. And just like that, you've upcycled a thrift store treasure!” shared Sarah.
Definitely not from a hospital recovery ward either...
Load More Replies...I'm pretty sure you can get all of that from dollar tree for like...2-5 dollars. :/
Has anyone else noticed that quite a few of these posts are from people in Wisconsin? Coincidence or correlation??
Previous occupants were resurrected and hence have no ongoing need
Yeah, we bought ‘em a while ago, but have no use for them now, as we came to our decision not to die fryer being bitten by some….one. All transactions to be conducted after dark. At our house. Caskets not included.
We have a burial plot dilemma in my family. When my parents were first married in 1968, they bought two grave sites in a cemetery that is now almost completely full, and one of the largest in my state. It's kind of in a nice area now and these grave plots are quite valuable. My dad was cremated and my mom is going to be too. Family legend has it that my mom gave my brother the two plots after my dad died. She gave my brother the necessary ownership paperwork. My sister felt like they should go to her and this has caused quite a problem. I'm going to be cremated, so I don't want them and I don't give a damn. Never saw so much drama over cemetery plots. I'm the middle child and I am literally in the middle of all this. I have good relationships with all my family members but they don't get along with each other. Good times.
Anyone who would accept this level of pay is not someone you would want anywhere near children.
$3/hour? What decade do they think they’re in? I got more than that per hour for babysitting 50 years ago when I was 12.
I see so much like this! Taking care or kids is hard! $3 is a pittance
Plus gas money right ? Or $3 an hour and no money for gas? They want the one to watch their kid to PAY them to take care of the kid?? Gas cost more than $9 I assume. Please guys, the only one gonna respond to this is pedophiles ffs!!! Poor child!
We also were wondering about insights that Sarah could share into her approach to online thrifting. Like, how to identify valuable vintage items and unique treasures amidst the vast array of options available online. Sarah wrote: “Admittedly, it's easier to spot valuable vintage items after you've been doing it for a while. But if you're just starting out, I wouldn't worry much about value, unless you plan on reselling it. If you're curating items for your own home, what matters most is how strongly you're drawn to an item and whether or not it's within your budget. If I stumble upon an online listing that I really like, but I have some reservations about it, I'll Google the item (or brand, or other keywords in the listing) just to get a better idea of the piece's background. I'm a sucker for interesting history or intriguing backstories, and it's always fun to learn that about a piece you are eyeing.”
With a little time and work, this could be turned into a nice, customized piece of furniture. I‘d give it a try!
Do these plots appreciate? Might have to pick up a few before the boomers really start kicking it!
Wrong thread? This one is for the desk parts. Not judging or policing. Just letting you know.
Load More Replies...EDIT: I stand corrected. It's a Lodge and thicker than I realized so worth a bit more. =-== That grill could be cleaned more easily than it looks like. I've done it. Wire brush, hot fire, some food oil on the metal and it sort of bakes it in a bit like seasoning a pan. BUT - that looks like a cheap hibatchi with sheet metal sides. You can get NEW cheap hibatchis on amazon for $30.
David, you are the hero we need, but not the one we deserve.
Load More Replies...Actually that's about a $150 grill. Lodge cast iron. Would likely clean up very nicely.
Exactly, sand blast and some stove black and you're in business. Have to reseason the grill but that's easy.
Load More Replies...it says "lodge" on the sides....that should clean up nice and last for years...new retail for $150-$200 USD, depending on model
Tell me you're lazy and cheap without telling me you're lazy and cheap.
Cast Iron hibachis are 75+ on amzn. I'd make an offer on this.
Idk if I could spend $30 on it, but if it really is lodge, then it was probably pretty pricey new and I just saw a lodge cleaning kit the other day to use if your pans get rusted so it might actually be worth it to the right person.
It's best to provide details when referring to other entries as they move up/down the list according to votes.
Load More Replies...I think they put plastic wrap over a print and are saying it’s a painting.
Load More Replies...And lastly, Sarah added: “Thrifting, in a physical store or online, is always a gamble. It's always important to remember that someone donated it to a thrift store for a reason. Maybe it's just not their style anymore, or perhaps they inherited something they don't want. But maybe they donated it because it's broken or unstable - a little due diligence (physically checking an item or sending questions to an online seller) can go a long way in the end. When it comes to upcycling ideas, there is an abundance of inspiration available online - searching on Pinterest or Instagram hashtags is a great way to get the creative juices flowing.”
No catalytic converter more or less indicates a stolen vehicle. Especially since the seller is only interested in getting rid of the entire thing.

Whyyy can’t people clean the sh!t they sell online before they post the adds??! It’s disgusting. No one wants your dirty trash. Clean and then sell.
My mind spent far too long trying to figure out how they made a whirlpool out of a micro.
I'll sell you these boxes, nevermind that you can get them at the post office for free!
Looks like someone closed down their eBay seller site. Thing is, USPS will send you a shitload of these boxes for free.

Proper Custom fursuit heads START at around £1500 without the final covering. A full fur suit by a reputable creator starts around $3k for a basic So can be $5-6k to get con ready
I don't see anything wrong with this one. Just because a lifestyle isn't yours doesn't make it unhinged or cringe. I'm not into furries, but plenty are, and are decent about it. Unfortunately, just like in any lifestyle, there are groups who don't act like the rest of the bunch, and that bunch of furries are giving the rest a bad name (tv/movies don't help).
This suit is very well made and quite realistic!! Too bad it’s so expensive as it would be the perfect Halloween costume!!!
I would use that as part of a Halloween decoration lol maybe a werewolf with paint?

If he lets the junker only pay him $260 for that car, he’s going to be cheated. They pay by weight. 25 years ago my little late 1980s Ford Escort Econobox died. I got like $300 for it, and an Escort is a lightweight tiny car.
They gave me $850 for a 20 yr old PT Cruiser 6 yrs ago. The scrap yards make a lot of money selling parts and what they can't sell they finally crush.

What is wrong with this? The cord is sold separately and this is a little less than what they sell for retail.
