People Share 22 Companies They’ve Permanently Blacklisted And The Stories Behind Each One
Our society is built in a way that no matter what we do, every one of our actions is somehow related to certain companies. Whether they provide us a service, create and/or distribute products or anything else — there's always a company behind it.
While we don't really have a choice to completely boycott every single company, we can choose which we want to interact with and which we want to avoid as much as possible. So, today, let's take a stroll through the list of businesses netizens put on their "bad list" and the reasons behind it. Maybe this will simply be entertaining or maybe it will force you to rethink your consumption habits. We'll see.

Nestle. Their CEO lobbied to legislate the use of tap water to only be used for dishes, laundry etc. The guy didn't think people should be able to drink the water coming out of their sinks.
Ongoing, their siphoning of public water supplies to bottle and sell for a profit. This company is absolute trash, and the owners should take a long walk off a short pier.
I'm with you in this. I remember the '80s advertisements, living in a communist eastern-european country, but being able to catch some TV-signals from the western part of Europe. Back than, Nestle seemed the peak of luxury.
Don’t forget to add the little flourish of an accent over the E. Disgusting company. anyone know who owns them?
Load More Replies...Then there's their pushing baby formula to impoverished countries with contaminated water supplies. Vile company.
I first heard about this in my late high school/early college years and have avoided them as I am able since.
Load More Replies...It's easy to say "Oh, I won't buy Nestlé products" but unless you also boycott the 2,000+ brands/companies that they own (this is not an exaggeration), it's not going to do much good. https://medium.com/@timhellwiguw/everything-owned-by-nestle-808036bb7041
Nestle was blacklisted in my mind decades ago, when they pushed their baby formula on poor mothers in Africa, who didn't have regular access to clean water. The babies got watered down formula (to make the expensive formula last longer), done with dirty water, causing the mothers' milk to dry up, and the kids to get sick and/or die. It's not easy to boycott them, however, as they own companies in many different fields...
They own the bottling plant of our local spring, Buxton Water. In the town centre there are free to use wells / spring taps, if Buxton Water decide they need more flow they are permitted to turn off the free supply in the town. The spring supplies a million litres A DAY and an act of Parliament states a free supply should be available in the town. St Anne’s Well has been in place since 1520 and yet Nestle have been turning it off to keep their bottles filling. We aren’t big fans of their work.
I saw somewhere... I wish I could remember where, because it was a good source, that by the time manufacturing and human rights (particularly slavery) are factored in, Nestle was argueably the most morally corrupt company on earth.
I never buy from them anymore. Once I found out about this and that they actually stated that water "isn't a human right", they lost my business forever and earned both my middle fingers in their face.
Melinda's hot sauce
Back in the '80s, a Belizean lady named Marie Sharp started growing habaneros and making a hot sauce. She named it Melinda's, after her husband's farm. It got really popular in Belize and she found a distributor (Figueroa International) to sell her sauces in the US, where it quickly became the best selling habanero sauce.
She wasn't business savvy, though, and the Figueroa brothers trademarked the Melinda's name behind her back, cut her out of the US market, and started selling their own more cheaply made sauce clone under the Melinda's name.
She fought them for the name in courts for 5 years until she could no longer afford the legal fees and finally gave up the name in return for the Figueroas dropping her sole distributor contract. (She couldn't sell any hot sauce in the US because she was still under contract with them) Then she started over and named her sauce after herself.
Marie Sharp's habanero hot sauce is now back on US store shelves and is 10x better than Melinda's. Don't support corporate theft.
I’m a hot sauce person, it’s a hot sauce person thing, I live in Aus 😂 sadly for her I’m a franks girl

Airbnb. For their destruction of the housing market.
I saw a lot of posts on social media from the USA, how weird this became with charging 100-200 dollars for cleaning fee, and also including that fee in the preis. In Europe is not so at the are-you-fcking-kidding-me level, but slowly reaching. Like 5-6 years beforw, I got a kitchen equipped with basic things, like salt-pepper-oil-dried spices-tea bags-coffee-sugar. Sometimes a bit of care-bag for your first breakfast, like bread/buns-butter-cheese-tomatoes-cucumber-ham-bacon-eggs. Nothing too much, just for 1-2 days' breakfast. And sometimes a bottle of -usually dry- white wine. Slowlí, this disappeared also from european version of Airbnb. I used to book with them, but not anymore. Although, they didn't reached the entitlement and prices of their USA's version.
The place has to be cleaned regardless of how many days someone stays. If the cleaning fee was built into the price, the price could easily be too high or too low based on the number of days in the stay. By isolating that fee, they can set the lowest price per night without losing money. I have a problem with owners who charge a large cleaning fee and still leave the guest with a list of cleaning to do before they leave.

What happened later to the “full rent houses” and later to the whole airbnb business, is shear madness, and demonstrates how any human being who have the chance to profit, will do it.
People who use what Airbnb has become are stupid. You can stay at a nice hotel and not have to do chores for about the same price.
I've seen travel blogs and videos lately which recommend hotels over Airbub. Ironically, due to cost.
It’s no secret that we live in a capitalist society. We aren’t going to delve deep into the ins and outs or the pros and cons of this way of living, as it would take way too much time, which we don’t have right now. Instead, we’re going to explain that capitalism means that society’s means of production are held by private individuals or organizations, not the government, and that everything is determined mainly by competition in a free market.
So, in a nutshell, it means that most of the things we consume are, in one way or another, owned by certain companies. Basically, you have all of the companies 100% of the time. They’re so intertwined in our everyday lives.
Wells Fargo - My dad was dying of cancer and he started signing over all his accounts. The manager faxed the forms to my dad to sign and he sent them back. The last page got cut off and the manager never said anything. We did not get permission to access his account after he died because of it. We had to pay a lawyer $15k to fight Wells Fargo and get our dad's money from them. I will never do business with them again.
Wells Fargo is a big bank in the US that has been sued over and over again for various fraudulent activities.

Ticketmaster. On 2 separate occasions something went sideways and they just said s***w you. For a Lady Gaga concert they sold a nonexistent section and the venue scrambled to put us in foldable chairs literally right behind a row of port a potties. We couldn’t see anything but smelled everything.
Then for a Beyoncé concert they sold us $1800 “VIP” tickets that were nowhere near where the depiction and they relabeled the row of seats right behind that region as “obstructed” which is true of the VIP section too, you basically couldn’t see anything.
In both cases TicketMaster said to pound sand and they reserve all rights to change anything about the seats they want.
It’s so hard to avoid doing business with them which is why I didn’t initially boycott but now? Never again. I don’t care if I never see another live concert again.
They are exactly why I stopped going to big concerts. They are a monopoly.
Wasn’t there a band that warned against Ticketmaster? And noone really listened. However, people are still paying up so TM is having the last laugh. The joke is on us
TicketMaster is the reason a lot of people stopped going to concerts. Corporate greed.
i agree they really suck...added $138 fee to $419 billy joel tickets and an $8 venue charge
I can't believe how pervasive TicketMaster is throughout the world. Surely it's now more economical for promoters to deal with their own ticket sales, like they used to, than to allow TicketMaster to take its [probably very generous] percentage, and effectively rip off fans.
Wal-mart. The company ranks in the top 5 for employees on government assistance, and at the top for retailers that receive SNAP spending. The wealthiest family on Earth is using taxpayers to cover their payroll for them.
This was years ago, so it got worse since. But they reported 12 BILLION dollars in profit. That's PROFIT, as in money that goes right into their pockets. That same year, Walmart employees needed 5 Billion in government assistance, because Walmart uses every loophole to pay under a living wage. But they Could have paid that living wage and STILL MADE 7 BILLION IN PROFIT. Instead, they stole 5 Billion in taxpayer dollars.
If I had it my way, we would total the amount of government welfare services an employed person consumes, and drop that bill dollar for dollar on their employer's doorstep. If a company is underpaying so badly their employees qualify for social services, they should end up in a situation where it's cheaper to raise salary and benefits than keep getting a bill from the government.
they don't hire full time to avoid benefits. Raises are minimal, hour are cut. Been there, done that
Walmart has never made it to my country (and for a measly 5 1/2 million people probably never will) which appears to be something which we need to be grateful for.
They also forced a lot of companies to offshore production to meet price points. Mr. Sam used to have American made signs on products. When he died they went away.
Yet, you can pick and choose which companies to avoid, or find replacements for them, as usually one product is made and distributed by one or more businesses, and there are always competitors.
The reasons people choose to boycott certain companies can be various. It can be related to politics, social issues, personal stories with the business, or anything else – people are complicated, and so is their reasoning.
Today, let’s take a look at a list of companies that some netizens choose to boycott and their reasons behind their decision.
Comcast…. Scamming customers left and right. Customer service sucks. Legit worst company ever.
Yeah. You sign on with one price and they jack it up next month. When I tried to get out of the contract (which was an option, or so I was told) they tried to charge me to come pick up the server that was supposedly free. Classic bait-and-switch. F***k them.
Comcast routinely makes the list of "10 most hated corporations."
They had to change their name to Xfinity. Can't believe some people fell for it.
This has been the way since I started paying for cable. I vowed never to use them 30 years ago in school, well, at our new house, for years, xfinity was the only option for inets. Hated writing that check for years. Neighborhood finally got fiber, burned the last xfin bill... Now, MIL is getting older and I am taking care of cable etc... Guess what... We can only get Xfin.. I Hate Comcast...
Chick-fil-A. The food is mid tier at best. When I moved south, everyone kept telling me to try it like it was some heavenly ambrosia. I make better waffle fries in my air fryer at home. Also, they're a morally bankrupt company, and I will never give them a single penny of my money.
You can add Hobby Lobby to that list for the same reason.
there are times when i am happy that in germany you don't have that much overflow of fast food chains. i am good with McD, BK and KFC. I'd prefer to go to a local burger or kebab shop.
They hate people of my type. But I don't care, because I know how to cook.
A shout out.. the word boycott comes from Ireland!! Lord boycott- English landlord who fecked Irish tenants over in 1800s

New Egg, they sent me a PC with a faulty graphics card that I returned. They sent me a picture of a broken server rack and said we can’t give you a refund because this is what you sent us.
I had to reach out on social media and they still wouldn’t give me a refund. I got so frustrated I said this felt like fraud and I was considering contacting a lawyer…my refund came an hour later.
All of these takes were collected from an online discussion, which happened under the question “What companies are on your permanent bad list and you’ll never do business with them?” Since it got nearly 4K answers, we thought it would be reasonable to turn the most interesting answers into an entertaining (and possibly educational) list.
On this list, you will find pretty well-known names, such as Nestle. Well, over the years, this company has lived through a lot of controversies, from claims about slavery and child labor to food contamination and deforestation — and that’s just a few of them. Not to mention its beyond problematic baby formula marketing. So, it's no surprise that some people simply choose not to have anything to do with the company.
The Salvation Army. 3 separate times I have caught them stealing toys meant for the Toys for Tots program by saying that they were "with the marines" and sent to do pickups. This is what happens when a good chunk of your "volunteers" are actually only there because it is court-ordered community service or they wanted work release while in jail.
The Salvation Army also abuses the people it's supposed to help
I got released from a 6 month stretch in county jail for signing on with Salvation Army. I was supposed to serve 6 months working and (praying) with them in lieu of jail time.they worked us relentlessly with no time to ourselves. If we weren't working we were in a bible class or an AA meeting. Even meals were not fun. God forbid you set your dish on the wrong side of the placemat. Long story short, I left and did my 6 months in Santa Rita Jail, and was MUCH happier!
When prison is the more enticing option :(

I would say the US. All I know about the Salvation Army in Australia really comes from my brother who is a store manager though.

Verizon.
My contract was up for renewal and I went to the Online Chat to get new pricing.
The rep provided the info and tried to get me to recommit but I politely thanked him and said I was still shopping around.
A few minutes later, I received an email alert that my account settings had changed; he removed paperless billing, autopay and an employer discount.
When I followed-up, I learned there was no way that could "accidentally" happen.
I received lots of apologies, but I'd never trust them again.
Sadly, given our rural area, Verizon is the best ISP as ATT S-U-C-K-S. Verizon keeps asking if we want phone service. I keep explaining we use Consumer Cellular as a 2 phone plan costs as much as a 1 phone plan with them.
I've been using them for 19 years now, and never had a bad experience with their customer service. Sounds like you had a bad experience, but I will stick with them as long as I have had good experiences.
Same here. My wife and I were with Verizon before it was called Verizon (we got our first mobile phone when she was pregnant with our daughter, who turned 30 last month), and have never had an issue. It sounds like OP had a single bad experience with a Verizon worker and blames the whole company.

Adobe. They reversed their permanent licensing for people who already purchased permanent licenses and tried to act coy when people called them out on it.
As a computer programmer, what is so great about Adobe suite? There are SO many alternatives.
I need a dreamweaver alternative for both windows & Mac OS
Load More Replies...The original Photoshop was expensive, like like 600€. Bit on current subscription you pay the same amount in 2 years, and have to continue to pay if want to use it. Upgrades - yes, they are OK. But I have PS 6 CS and it still does whatever I need.
Adobe sucks. I signed up for a trial of something a few years back. They relentlessly try to charge you for any subscription. I do use privacy.com just for this reason, after the sign up I closed the card but to this day they still try to charge it. adobe-6823...21d23f.jpg
I completely left them. Enough alternatives: Topaz, Affinity. DaVinci Resolve etc.
Any tips? The alternatives I tried was not something I liked 🤷♂️
Load More Replies...Yet, Nestle isn’t the only known name in this list. There’s also Ticketmaster. It’s a ticket sale and distribution company that, over the last couple of years, has received quite a lot of criticism because of how poorly they’re managing their job.
For instance, back in 2022, when a sale for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour went live, the website crashed within an hour, with users getting logged out or stuck in a queue. Granted, 3.5 million people registered for the pre-sale program, so the traffic was heavy for the site. But the crashing wasn’t the only problem here. Many people complained about poor customer service and deceitfulness.
Any food delivery service. UberEats, DoorDash, Postmates, GrubHub, you name it. They pay drivers barely enough, have had many controversies with taking tips, charges customers insane fees, take profits from restaurants, cause customers to blame restaurants for errors by the driver, and encourage the existence of ghost kitchens which ruins local restaurant culture.
Bad for the pockets of the customer, driver, and restaurant, all for the sake of convenience.
We only order food from places that deliver their own. This means most of the smaller restaurants, the Chinese food, pizzas and such. Ask the next time you're in a place, chances are they deliver and won't charge. Food delivery services are scams. Even McDonald's delivers.
I won't order from any business that uses places like Uber eats or grab hub... The only exception is if I am literally physically incapable of getting food or making a meal. The fees are absolutely ridiculous
Food Service Delivery Companies have drivers that think it's okay to park illegally or in disabled bays. This has prevented me from being able to take actual disabled people to get food. I once parked behind one and he said "I'll only be there for a minute". I replied that we were only getting takeaway so we wouldn't be long either... I also worry about all the scooters and motorbikes with L plates and wonder how many drivers are killed or injured each year.
All of these organizations bring the same thought to my head: Cold McDonald's for $40.
There's a really good sandwich place nearby; they're always packed so one day I decided to order online & pick it up instead of waiting in line. As I'm placing the order, I realize the price is about $3 more than what I'd paid a few days earlier. Then I noticed the delivery fee & option to tip the driver and I realized I'd clicked "delivery" instead of "pick-up." Clicked out & re-did the order on the pick-up page and surprise! The $3 price increase was gone & the sandwich was the same cost it had been the last time I'd gone to the shop.
I ordered for the first time from GrubHub. Cost me more to order from them and have food delivered than it would have been had i used my own car to go get the food in the first place. And I ordered from White Castle, cheapest fast-food restaurant in the U.S. Cost me almost $30! Never again.
Shake Shack. Covid hit my small business hard and we applied for the PPP loans as soon as they were made available to apply for.
We were told funds were dried up. Come to find out, Shake Shack (and a few other companies) used loopholes to treat each one of their corporate owned locations as its own business and sucked up millions of dollars of loans before actual small businesses could get it.
I've never set foot in one since.
Uline.
Massive business supplier that openly laments that workers have rights, and activitly trys to gain back the good 'ol days of treating your workers like cattle.
This should be higher on the list. ULINE is a seriously evil company. If any online orders I place arrive in ULINE packaging, I immediately contact the vendor and tell them to stop using ULINE or I'll boycott. And I have.
Family owners are huge supporters of $$$ to repube campaigns. They also employ undocumented workers.
I have a stack of 7 catalogs they sent to people in my company, including people who haven’t worked there for more than a decade. I opted out of them once before, but they were somehow reinstated. Time to unsubscribe again. The catalogs take up most of our small mailbox in addition to being a waste of paper.
Load More Replies...The next month after the sale, some fans even sued Ticketmaster for violations like intentional deception, fraud, price fixing, and antitrust, which opened up discussions about these longstanding issues in the music industry.
And again, that’s just one case of the company’s problems and the reasons people decide to avoid it as much as possible.
We’re not going to spoil the rest of the list — you will have to check it out yourself. Don’t forget to upvote and maybe even share your takes on the aforementioned companies in the comments!
Personally as a veteran, companies that go out of their way to let you know they’re veteran-owned. Like blatant in-your-face patriotic or militaristic imagery and messaging. If you started the company as a veteran, fine. If there’s a little blurb about it on the website somewhere, fine. Blast American flags or stars or rifles or olive drab and camo print everywhere, or name your company some variation of “patriot”, f**k that noise.
Being Irish and a neutral country we never ever have things like this, or people out collecting money for veterans charity. In London veterans stand in uniforms collecting… I’ve given ££ but it is a disgrace that their own country , they fought for, isn’t giving them what they deserve re pension. It’s truly disgusting
Yes - all countries should treat their veterans with dignity, respect and ample benefits for risking life and limb for their country and its citizens.

Best Western.

THEY HAVE BED BUGS
. and those f****r (the bugs) were so bold they just walked across the pillows like they paid for my room. i screamed like a little b***h and called management.
Manager dgaf. they did not notify anyone in the adjacent rooms and went "well what do you want me to do?" dude..i want you to process my refund, then douse me in bleach to wash away this gross a*s feeling.
Have friends that work in pest control. Hotels are terrible for bedbugs: good management will take care of the issue (have the effected room and those around it nuked), average management will half-a*s it (nuke the effected room), bad management is in the above story
That is a pill bug/roly poly/woodlouse, etc. Fun fact: It's the only land crustacean! They have gills!
Before you book, always go to the health page of the county the hotel is in, they will have all the reports of infestations as a matter of pubic record. Disney HATES this, but it's a legal obligation to have this stuff on public record.
"Well, what do you want me to do?" Like, burn the fcking place down. Also, Best Western is a franchise, so you may have another experience with them in another state or country.
Bedbugs are like the evil offspring of cockroaches and mosquitoes. Ugh.
Glad they used a picture of a cute little pill bug instead of an actual bedbug!
Progressive.
I had them for 10 years without a claim. I was rear-ended by a kid. 100% his fault. He had insurance. They gave me so many problems with pricing my car.
I went up two levels to like the agent supervisor's supervisor. And this guy was lying to me. It got so bad I recorded him. I then put the recording on YouTube and sent links to every person in progressive that I could reach.
Only then did I get somebody who gave me a fair assessment for my car.
They originally offered me $10,000 and I ended up settling for $19,000. It was such a scam.
A little while later my friend had an accident and also had progressive. And gave her a hassle over who to take the car to. And it ended up. She was correct that she needed to take it to the dealer.
But that was enough that I switched. When I switched I had already signed up for new insurance and the agent tried to convince me to stay with progressive by saying well, you don't know how they will treat you when you have an accident because you haven't had an accident with them yet.
I said no but I know how you'll treat me and I don't like it.
my son works at one of the main car repair shops in our area and they refuse an progessive claims cause they cant get paid
AT&T.
There's a reason they're known as American Thugs & Thieves.
And sadly I am stuck with them as they have the best service in my small rural area. Still tho they are leaps and bounds better than my internet provider Sparklight, formerly Cableone.
I tried them for once month back in 2023... they tried charging me significantly more for my phone service than what I'd signed up for. so I cancelled and then they STILL tried to bill me after I cancelled. Thugs indeed!
Worked for mobile and U-verse as customer service. Can't disagree. Mostly it's down to people - their sales people will sell you anything, but won't you read contract and ask questions before signing?
Blue Grass Quality Meats. I worked there, had a manager tell me to pick meat up off the floor and put it back on the rack. That floor was cleaned with chemicals strong enough to eat through my boot, and now it was on my food. When I tried to say they couldn't make me do that, I was written up. So far as I know, that guy still works there.
If you have, or have access to, freezer space, it's ALWAYS better to buy meat 'on the hoof'. It's generally local. 1/4 beef, 300lbs, 1/2 pork 30-40 lbs.
Pep Boys. Scr**ed me over royally and I ended up broken down in the median of a busy road in a not-the-best part of town as a scared teen. I guess they assumed they could overcharge a stupid college kid and not actually fix the car. Years, and much disposable income later, I still flat out refuse to give them my business.
American Airlines.
Their error caused me to miss a flight, which I had to pay to rebook. Their response was “Nothing we can do.” They all but admitted their fault, yet wouldn’t make it right.
Never again (probably)
(Probably, because it seems like whenever I say “never” I end up eating my words somewhere down the road).
