Let’s all just give a big round of applause to all parents who dedicated their 18 years (or rather, their whole lives) to professionally taming a little daredevil, and often not one but two or three, or more. With bloodshot eyes and not much fuel left in their tank, moms, dads and caregivers keep surprising us all with their sheer level of resilience, straight face, and even a smile.

Because raising kids is not for the faint-hearted. So in order to remind us of that, Bored Panda compiled a collection of posts where kids made their parents' day really miserable.

So that your coffee stain, lost keys and really important email sent out to the wrong address won’t feel so bad!

To find out about navigating parenting in these crazily uncertain times, Bored Panda reached out to Natalie Maximets, a certified life transformation coach at “Online Divorce,” which is a professional divorce document preparation service with 20 years of market history.

“The pandemic and isolation have certainly shocked every family with a child. Now our houses or apartments aren’t just places where we live. Currently, this space also serves as an office, a school, a place for activities, etc.,” Natalie told us.

According to her, the situation is twofold. “On the one hand, parents are constantly with their children and can devote more time to them. But on the other hand, not everyone can withstand such a stress test as limited space doesn’t provide an opportunity to direct one’s energy and emotions outward.”

What’s more, the need to combine multiple roles is even more obvious. There are many challenges parents can face during times of pandemic and postpandemic. “First, they have to act as teachers because of homeschooling. However, not all parents have the necessary skills to explain the subject matter to their children easily. Moreover, with this additional role, it becomes more challenging to maintain a balance,” Natalie explained.

“Second, parents can face behavioral problems in their children. Due to a lack of interaction with other kids, the inability to play with someone other than their parents, and a limited list of activities, children can become irritable, aggressive, or hyperactive (it’s purely individual).” Natalie said that such situations are challenging for both the children and the parents.

“Third, it can be difficult for working parents to take care of their children’s daily routines. Kindergartens, schools, and hobby groups are extremely important. They help structure children's lives, fill them with meaning every day, and reduce conflicts in the family. In the new realities, parents have to think about how to keep their children busy every minute.”

Moreover, Natalie explained that during quarantine, people become closer to each other. As a result, personal boundaries are blurred, leading to two possible scenarios. “In scenario one, parents and children start working against each other, causing conflicts. In scenario two, they manage to establish an even deeper connection with each other. The main thing with the second scenario is to not leave the child alone with their fears.”

For any parent who feels overwhelmed with trying to juggle out these duties, Natalie’s advice is to change perspective. “Young parents may feel overwhelmed, anxious, and stressed out because they take on too much and want to be ideal parents. But remember, the child doesn’t need a perfect mom or dad. They need emotionally healthy parents because the parent’s psychological state directly affects the kids.”

She continued: “Therefore, every time you feel strained to your limits, just stop, exhale, and deal with the problem you can solve at the moment. It will make you feel capable of doing something. Then, try to break bigger problems into smaller ones. You’ll see that there are practically no unsolvable situations.”

At the same time, it seems like there are too many parenting styles and methods out there. Natalie confirmed that the topic is often very controversial, with many parents having strong opinions about raising their children. “But at the same time, the goal is always the same—to raise a happy, healthy, and successful child. Each of the existing parenting styles and methods focuses on it.”

Natalie added that there is no single recipe to understand what is suitable for your child. Having said that, she also listed some steps you may want to think about. “First, you should analyze your child’s personality and the required level of physical activity, creativity, and socialization. Second, think about the 4 main parenting styles (authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, uninvolved) and try to predict your child’s reaction to each of them. Perhaps in your case, you can’t choose one style. Then, think about how you can mix them or even work out your own.”

Natalie concluded that as a parent, you can also go to a professional psychologist who will talk with you and your child, determine strong sides and interests, and suggest possible options.

More nonsense from the USA. In Japan, delivery is one of the very few things not covered by insurance. Instead, my hometown pays 100% of the cost ... including a 10-day stay in the hospital and parenting classes including how to feed, change a diaper, etc.

This is so strange. As a swede, we donā€™t goddanged PAY for this. We have something wonderful called ā€œtaxesā€, which effectively makes sure that society stays somewhat equal and makes sure people donā€™t have to godd*mned PAY to have their godd*mned CHILD delivered safely at a hospital. That way, even poor people gets a chance to, you knowā€¦ live. US, Iā€™m so sorry.

This is the one which infuriates me the most. What *exactly* did the hospital do in this scenario? Are they literally charging for the surgeon (who presumably was holding the baby after the C-section) to *lean over a bit* to put baby into mommy's arms? And leaning costs nearly $40?!!

Quantity refers to minutes for procedures. The C-section took 79 minutes. However, with the skin to skin contact and lactation consult, quantity likely refers to number of times it occurred.

Yup! Should we start charging the doctors for the number of times we have to squeeze our husbands balls to get all the sperm out? ( no, that is not a thing!) Lol it's a dramatization of costing out each step. If I were an OB-GYN, I would charge one price for it all. And then tell them what not to accept while in the hospital. I would also allow them to have their own meds in there, ( regular meds) so they aren't charged 5.00 for a heart or BP med!

Totally has to be the US (where I reside, live might be too strong a word). My insurance was supposed to cover all but $400 of my hip replacement in 2008. I was pre approved, all the paperwork was done, etc. I paid the final bill in full. Months later I heard from a collection agency demanding $2500 or so on the hospital's behalf. I asked for an itemized invoice. They sent me a statement. I called and again requested an itemized invoice. I made the same request of them, same response - I got a statement with a "balance owing". I called them and basically said, "I can create this exact same piece of paper on my home computer. Send me AN ITEMIZED INVOICE on hospital letterhead or Go F**k Yourself". It was a scam & I never heard from them again.

I am from Germany and this is so ridiculous to me - Compare Universal health care services: Birth caesarian or not, complication or not = payed for. If you need to stay in hospital you pay 10 Euros per day for 14 days a year max... The child pays nothing.. It is on your insurance whatever you need before and after birth like physio or whatever... 10 Euros per perscription (6 sessions) or nothing if it would be a hardship for you, you do not pay at all... Any kind of surgery, cancer treatment etc is covered

This one actually infuriates me. The cost of delivering a child is astronomical as is. But to charge new parents for skin to skin contact right after delivery is beyond outrageous. That's not a service offered by the hospital. It eould also help is there was maternity/paternity leave equally so new parents have time with their child without having to also wear themselves out at a thankless, dead end, underpaying job.

U.S. sucks. Should also be a law that PAID maternity leave be offered for BOTH parents if the father is in the picture. Women are just expected to jump into caring for a new life after just giving birth or having a C-section with no one to help them settle in. Women as still in pain days/weeks after a birth even if itā€™s natural. I seriously hate US health care

Also in the US, the ER charges you like $30 for "self administration of medication". That was not for the tylenol itself, which was lumped in with "medication", but for me taking the tylenol out of the cup and putting it in my mouth by myself. I offered to just take one from my purse but they wouldn't let me and when I got the bill, I found out why. I am saving this entry for my collection of examples I use when advocating for universal healthcare.

In case no one knows, the $39.35 wasn't a charge for holding the baby, it was for having an extra nurse in the room (for safety reasons). Do some new mothers need help the first few days, yes. Is it right to charge for that kind of help, no.

Rather ridiculous considering skin to skin contact is done by the parents, no medicle advice or aid is actually needed for it.

This actually went viral and was explained. It was a way of charging for the extra medical person that has to be right next to Mama for skin to skin straight after a C-section.

You didn't pay to hold your baby. You paid for a skin to skin after a c section meaning you could not hold the baby at all. Meaning a nurse had to hold the baby to your skin and face so you could see it and talk to it for a few seconds. You were not forced. You could have opted out.

I was charged 80,000 rupees for a two day, induced labour, normal delivery+ stay in the hospital, in one of the top maternity hospitals in Bangalore. We managed to find so many error additions, and brought it down to 65,000 rupees. And still we are nowhere near this bill. In Indian rupees it's nearly 14 times more. This is apparently only after a c-section, and they aren't charging you to hold your baby, but actually for the additional nurse to make sure mom and baby are safe considering all the drugs in mom's system after the c-section

Health care and hospital stay incl ambulance are totally free in Norway. Doesn't matter if you had infection, hip replacement or cancer. All free of course. Your private economy is not affected by this. Billionaires don't pay, and neither does people struggling with finance. Out-patient care we pay for, but only upto about 3000 (2022 number) kroners, about $ 335, in the entire calendar year. After you reach that number, doesn't matter if it's March or October. Visiting you private docter or an out-patient clinic. It's free. That sum (3000) incl doctors appointments, any medication for your chronic disease (meaning if you have a small infection and need antibiotics for 10 days, that you pay for). It even includes if you need physiotherapy or psychiatrist during the year. You pay at the start of new year, after 3000, it's free. Everything is free for children under the age of 16 yrs old, with the exception of medication for non-chronic illnesses, as mentioned before.

There may be an explanation for such a charge. Most c-section mothers don't get to hold their kids right away. https://slate.com/human-interest/2016/10/hospitals-charge-new-parents-for-skin-to-skin-contact.html#:~:text=Yes%2C%20Hospitals%20Actually%20Charge%20New%20Parents%20for%20Holding%20Their%20Babies&text=The%20reason%20the%20bill%20went,%2C%E2%80%9D%20as%20he%20put%20it.

If anyone here had done a shred of research they'd realize why the hospital actually charged the $39. It was because they needed an extra nurse to come into the room to assist the mother on holding the baby safely after her procedure.

When I had an emergency C-section (after 26 hours of labor), I was forced to have both of my hands strapped down to the OR table during the entire C-section and afterwards while they were stitching me up (a hospital policy I was not aware of until they started holding my arms down) . I definitely was not able to touch or hold him right after delivery. They held him up for me to see him and then left with my husband to go bathe him. Meanwhile, the 2 ob/gyns talked leisurely between themselves and the anesthesiologist sat right beside my head writing her medical notes with ear buds in. I felt so lonely and objectified during what was supposed to be such a spiritual moment in a mom's life. I remember laying there with tears streaming from my eyes wondering if my baby's ok and when I'd get to hold him for the first time. There seems to be many important issues and policies that hospitals fail to tell you before it's too late.

That makes no sense. My wife's insurance has been covering my kids since they were born. She doesn't even have that insurance any more but it's still covered under "Well Baby". Unless the kid is sick, all normal checkups and shots, etc. are covered until they are 18. We had checkups done at our home. She had breast feeding help at our home. Concierge service in the birthing room with a spare bed for me. Free DVD rental, a stereo system. It was crazy good service from the hospital. I guess it depends on what insurance you have or the choice of hospital. Some places over-charge, others don't.

Not nonsense in the US IMO. Unless there are complications from the birth or C-section surgery, it proven that patients heal better and faster if not in hospital for 24 or less. The US leads the world in the lowest mortality rate for newborn and mothers.

Um, nooo. The US has one of the highest (if not THE highest) rate of infant and mother mortality rates of any developed nation. AND it's been increasing over the last two years. NOTE: "The [infant] mortality rate in the United States was 5.44 in 2020. This rate was 50th among the 195 countries and territories measured, and significantly higher than in dozens of other developed countries such as Sweden (2.15), Japan (1.82), and Australia (3.14)."

I've read about this. IIRC the point is that if you do skin-to-skin after a C-section, you need a nurse paying extra close attention to you the whole time because you are holding a baby right after major abdominal surgery, and so the charge is for the nurse's time. You can argue that skin-to-skin should be just absorbed into the cost of delivery--I'd agree with you--but there is a nonzero cost to the hospital, they aren't making it up out of whole cloth.

Yes, you do. Nursing isn't a universal practice in the US so you don't learn from other women how to do it. In the 70s, I had what some male doctor called "sore nipples" which were deep, painful fissures. My daughter started to get sore nipples and she called a lactation nurse who showed her that the baby was latching on to her breast in the wrong way and taught her how to guide the baby so it wouldn't hurt. I wish we had had that help back when my daughter was born, but we hippy chicks were bringing breastfeeding back from oblivion and No One knew how to do it.

One sad thing is, they don't update some of your information they need to!! Prior to2017, if I ever had to be in the hospital, like for surgery, I was o. Low sodium 1600 ADA DIET. In 2017, I had Bariatric surgery. Where they cut off part of your stomach, so you lose weight pretty rapidly. I was on a bariatric diet, for my three days in there. Then, afterwards, when I had neck and lower back surgery, six months apart I 2019, I get the first meal, and what do I see?? I have a bariatric diet, modified! No salt, no this no that. They ignore the fact I am type 2 diabetic u dear great control, and ive me carbs all over the place! And to top it off, the meat and veggies are so salty, I couldn't eat them! Say what, you say? Yep, they mixed and picked their own special diet for me, because apparently, no orders were written by the PA or doctor. So,had to speak to 3 nurses and then the PA, to get it changed! And btw, I have lost over 120 pounds. Had the huns bring me protein drinks.

ā€œIn the OR, the birthing person is lying flat, on a very narrow surgical table. Their arms are out to the sides for IV access and a blood pressure cuff,ā€ she said. ā€œThere are electrodes on their upper body and a drape protecting a sterile field. The person might be groggy, nauseous, or in pain. They donā€™t have the same kind of stability or leverage. That makes it harder to hold the baby.ā€

This post was taken from a News story thats EXPLAINS WHY; but people like to just read the title and get indignant The hospital explained in a statement that the $39 charge is due to the need for an extra nurse. ā€œIn the case of a C-section, where the bedside caregiver is occupied caring for the mother during surgery, an additional nurse is brought into the OR to allow the infant to remain in the OR suite with the mother. This is to ensure both patients remain safe. There is an additional charge associated with bringing an extra caregiver into the OR. The charge is not for holding the baby, but for the additional caregiver needed to maintain the highest levels of patient safety,ā€ a spokesperson told CBS Salt Lake City affiliate KUTV.

Ok, so this charge is for the nurse's time who had to help the person giving birth do skin-to-skin with baby after the C-section. Because the mother has medication for pain relief and probably hooked up to other monitors, there are lots of wires and tubes to navigate. The nurse is there to help make sure the baby stays safe while the other medical professionals in the room finish the surgery on the mom. That nurse is specifically designated for this task and therefore gets paid for it. I'm not saying this isn't something crazy in the U.S. medical system, I'm just explaining why this person was charged for it.

I've seen this one before, and it had an explanation from an actual labor & delivery nurse. Basically, if the mother wants to hold the baby as while she's still feeling the effects of anesthesia, a nurse has to stand right there and make sure she doesn't drop it. Logically, you'd think that the father/mom's support person could do it, but since the hospital is going to get sued if the baby goes splat!, they require that it be an employee with medical training. And, because it only takes a fraction of a second for the baby to go splat!, you can't just have someone multi-task that job with their other postpartum duties. You need an extra nurse in the room, and that's why there's a fee for it.

Correction. You were billed $40 for that service, but your insurance made a payment and an adjustment so they might not have allowed the hospital to actually charge you for that. This isnā€™t even on topic. Quit politicizing everything.

We put Everett to bed and weā€™re in the living room watching a movie and heard a noise in Everettā€™s room so we called him out there and he said it was his drawer that made the noise. So I get up like 10-15 mins later to go pee and look in his room and see his little chair up to his dresser and the lid off his fish tank on the ground and the light in the water and Iā€™m like Corey the lid is off his tank and I canā€™t find the fish (Everett is asleep at this point) Corey walks in there and this is what we find"

As a good parent you get them in trouble and take their switch as punishment. Relieve them when you have bought a replacement. When they complain that this isn't their original, just pull a dadjoke about a Switch being switched and leave the room. Never bring up this topic again.
