50 Times People Came Across Something ‘Mildly Interesting’ And Just Had To Share It With Everyone (New Pics)
Not always do we want to squeeze the max out of the internet. Sometimes all we need is a calming scroll and some entertaining (but not triggering!) content. And sometimes it’s the mild kind of information that we seek.
In these cases, this corner of Reddit offers a perfect shelter. Known as “Mildly Interesting,” it’s a Reddit powerhouse boasting a mind-boggling 21.2M dedicated members. And it proves how something moderately interesting is all it takes to catch people’s tremendous interest.
Below we wrapped up a new batch of posts shared on the community, so scroll down. Also, make sure to check out our previous articles for more Mildly Interesting content here and here.
Bored Panda also reached out to Dr. Gleb Tsipursky, the best-selling author and CEO of Disaster Avoidance Experts who shared some interesting insights about staying curious and open to learning, as well as the benefits of it.

“Have you ever tried to learn something that you were bored by, and then found that nothing sticks?” Dr. Tsipursky wondered. “No wonder,” he added, “researchers find that curiosity helps improve our memory. That means if you want to have a good memory, it’s valuable to stay curious and open-minded.”

Moreover, Dr. Tsipursky, who’s the author of multiple best-selling books, including Leading Hybrid and Remote Teams (Intentional Insights, 2021), The Blindspots Between Us: How to Overcome Unconscious Cognitive Bias and Build Better Relationships (New Harbinger, 2020), argues that if you find yourself bored by a subject you are trying to learn something about, don’t force yourself to learn it.
On the other hand, it’s wise to first find something that makes you curious about it, and then learn it. “Curiosity is especially important as we age to keep a healthy mind. Curiosity can also help us make good decisions,” Dr. Tsipursky explained.

One cannot ignore the fact that we live in times when there is so much information that people often lose focus. Many people, especially young, experience a lack of attention and distractibility, as well as the inability to concentrate. When asked what are his thoughts about it, Dr. Tsipursky said that challenges with attention and focus come from a lack of mental fitness.
“People go to the gym to train their physical bodies, but our minds are just as important – if not more important – for our success in the modern world, due to the overabundance of information and the fact that most of us do knowledge work rather than physical labor,” Dr. Tsipursky explained.

So in order to improve your focus, Dr. Tsipursky argues, “it’s critical to pursue mental fitness by learning about how our minds can lead us in the wrong direction and practicing mental exercises to address these problems.”
We also asked whether some people are more naturally gifted with curiosity, to which Dr. Tsipursky explained that since one of the Big Five personality traits is openness to experience, the answer is yes. However, “all of us can learn to be more curious: genes are not destiny, they may explain only up to half of our mental abilities,” he concluded.

Report Card From My Great-Grandfather In 1926
Interesting that though inclined to mischief as he was, he never once was marked as rude or discourteous. So he is still a very polite and respectful in the spite of his shortcomings.
Load More Replies...Sounds like undiagnosed ADHD. Before I got diagnosed I had similar things said about me by teachers
These are all also ADHD symptoms esp. in male children…just sayin’
There are so many negative options! Yikes! But my son’s report cards do have places to rate his attitude, behavior, listening, effort, things like that. He got a “Citizen’s Award” last quarter for doing well in those areas. Proud mama! ☺️
Oh, congrats to your son! On my report cards, we are graded on each subject on effort and behaviour. If there's anything specific, the teachers can request an interview with the parents and the homeroom teacher can write a comment. Screenshot...b904cb.png
Load More Replies...Undiagnosed ADHD? I have an uncle who had undiagnosed dyslexia, and he got brutally bad school reports because he struggled to read and write, and his handwriting and spelling were all but illegible. Then there were isolated top marks for recitation, or shop class, and awards for things like winning the mental arithmatic bee, or debate society. You flick through his report cards knowing about dyslexia, and it's obvious that he was an incredibly bright kid with a learning disability. He'll occasionally tell a story about "cheating" on a comprehension test, by getting a friend who had the class before him to keep the test paper and *read it aloud to him* because the texts were the same and only the questions changed. He would memorise the text by hearing it once, and then in the exam he only had to read the questions. He got diagnosed as an adult, and became an engineer.
Yes, it's designed the wrong way around, it almost assumes poor behaviour will be the norm.
Load More Replies...Damn! Is there not any space to insert any positive comments, besides the standard "shows improvement?" Harsh!!
Well that certainly is a snapshot into the mentality of society of the time. Any more negativity and they would have had to bring in a priest to do an exorcism on the poor kid. That'll teach him not to whisper too much.
Hm. Maybe he was classmates with my grandfather who reportedly was one of four kids who decided to catch a badger (everyone held one end of a rope and pulled tight) during recess one day. And if you are thinking that perhaps they hadn't planned ahead on what to do once it was caught... yeah, they did not. I think they opted for "run like the wind to stay ahead of an unhappy badger" after the bell to come in rang.
"Promotion in Danger" I misread as "Promotes Danger" and now I'm kinda disappointed lol
Looks like great grandpapa may have had ADHD but they didn't know about that back then
Looks like he got in trouble and had to be good for a while. Same thing happened to me. Now look at me! I'm a millionaire!
I assume likely to fail, therefore unable to move on to the next grade level
Load More Replies...Looks like the school have the last century gone from hard, cold, judgmental, no positive impact and definitely not encouraging over to … what? I would say that in MY country it’s gone into laissez-faire after also a century of experimenting on the school systems. Now parents and schools are thrilled if kids don’t get F(lunked). It shows out in all kind of workplaces today with young people showing their “skills”.
One year at school, my Father's teacher announced to the class: "Guess who didn't come last in French again this term?" My father (who was very bad at French) was delighted, until the teacher pointed out that this was only because the boy who did worse had not attended school at all because of Scarlet Fever. He's not a lost cause though, he can ask for the time in French. He has no clue what you are saying when you answer him, but he really is doing his best. He's 77 this year and is still telling this story.
What a totally discouraging report format --needs some positives to strive for!
Obviously The Teacher Failed to engage him in anything that Truly Caught his Energy & Thought Process!! My Grandfather had much the same report card until a Female Teacher in Grade 3 Asked her Entire class to Figure out How to walk an Acre off in her Fifty acre Farm and show her their Calculations of How to do it Because she just didn't Know How to.That peaked The interest of the entire Class to get it absolutely correct for her!! She Peaked their INTERESS in actual LIFE THINGS!! Smart Lady!!
Hey, at least he was not a rude child. He probably would have been examined for ADHD if he was in school today.
Ah the good old days. Where we made an entire checklist so we didn't miss any opportunity to criticize someone.
They put so much emphasis on the negatives. So little space for anything positive. Poor kids.
note how they could measure how bad you were doing with multiple options, but doing good is just one entry
Spending all of December being perfect... Whispers in that one class - *Gets caught* 'Oh Ffs..'
So silly. Seems like looking for the negative. How about wording things differently like "Uses time wisely"; "Comes Prepared", "Attentive", etc.
Why are there 18 ways to articulate why the kid is doing bad but only 3 to say good?
Good thing he doesn't give up too easily or you might not be here. :)
How can he be capable of doing better and have the work be too difficult?
Nothing positive on that scale, it's either very good or all sorts of terrible. Stupid.
It means he was in danger of not being promoted to the next level of learning.
Load More Replies...The options focus on the neg not on positive or possible options to check. 6 out of 24 options are positive or near positive outcomes.
That could have been my report card in 1950 +...... I was a terrible student !
I’m sorry, this isn’t my first language, what is promotion in danger and seldom
Promotion mean moving to the next grade or form. The teacher was saying that he may not be promoted at the end of the year. Seldom means rarely, or not often.
Load More Replies...That likely means that he was at risk of failing to move on to the next grade level.
Load More Replies...Today they'd just diagnose ADHD, medicate him to the gills, & suddenly, no problem.
