It is a truth universally acknowledged that a great book can change your life. But finding the right one isn’t always easy.
Luckily, book lovers on TikTok are making the choice simpler by convincing others to read their favorites with just a single, unforgettable line. Some are poetic, some are chilling, and some will leave you desperate to know more. Take a look below—you might just find your next obsession.

“Forgive me for the things I did, but mostly for the ones I did not.”
We live in interesting times.
Attention spans are shrinking—Facebook’s research suggests it takes us just two seconds to decide whether something online is worth our attention—and we often joke that our world is already dystopian and bleak, yet reading, an intentional and immersive act, is very much in.
Of course, you could argue that books have always been in, but right now, corners of the internet, from TikTok to Instagram and Substack, are bursting with passionate readers. And honestly, isn’t that a beautiful thing to see?
One of those readers is Bookstagrammer Eden, who currently lives in Vancouver, Canada. Bored Panda reached out to her to learn more about her love for books and to get her best advice on how to read more.
“I’ve been an avid reader since I was eight but momentarily stopped due to school and other demands,” she told us. “But during 2020, when the world was going through COVID-19, I got back into reading, and like most people at the time, I picked up new hobbies (dalgona coffee)”—writer’s note: I felt that one in my soul—“that I very quickly dropped (lol) and revisited old ones that had been pushed aside by the busyness of life. In my case, it was reading.”
"1984" By George Orwell
“Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.”
"To Kill A Mockingbird" By Harper Lee
“The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience”
Great book. Like I get why it's banned but it's specific to an era and the lesson is what's important.
"De Profundis" By Oscar Wilde
"Remember that the fool in the eyes of the gods and the fool in the eyes of man are very different."
"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars".
During quarantine, Eden re-read some of her favorite books, like the Percy Jackson series and Pride and Prejudice, and her love for reading was reignited. “All throughout quarantine and into 2021, I was a quiet reader and viewer of Bookstagram and BookTok. At the time, my only form of book documentation was a physical reading journal, which I loved, but it very quickly became a laborious thing and I couldn’t keep up with it anymore,” she said.
Then, in December 2021, the idea of starting her own Bookstagram to replace her reading journal took shape. “That idea fully became a tangible thing on January 1, 2022, making 01.04.2022 a very special set of numbers for me.”
Since then, her Bookstagram has evolved into a blog that still revolves around books and reading but now includes glimpses of her life, hobbies, and personal interests—making it even more special to her.
"Frankenstein" By Mary Shelley
"Life, although it may only be an accumulatiom of anguish, is dear to me, and I will defend it"
"The Song Of Achilles" By Madeline Miller
'He is half of my soul, as the poets say. I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell, I would know him blind by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth I would know him in death, at the end of the world."
I loved this book, but I wish I had read it before reading Circe. Circe is so brilliant a novel, that Song of Achilles just couldn't compare.
"The Bell Jar" By Sylvia Plath
“The floor seemed wonderfully solid. It was comforting knowing that I had fallen and could fall no further”
Eden’s passion for reading comes from her belief that we are all lifelong learners and students of life. “You can enrich and widen your perspective through traditional education, but so much of life’s lessons happen outside the classroom,” she explained. “This is where my love of literature and stories comes from.”
“There’s something so special about being able to read, explore, and learn from an author’s work, their lived experiences, imaginations, and creativity,” she continued. “So much of my worldview, my morals, ideas, and values have been shaped or influenced by literature. I believe this has helped me understand and create long-lasting connections with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and walks of life.”
“The act of reading, for me, is not only for entertainment but is also an opportunity to learn, explore, and love humanity.”
"Pride And Prejudice" By Jane Austen
"Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain”
"The Little Prince" By Antoine De Saint-Exupéry
"If you see a boy in the desert, under a star with golden like hair that's smiling you'll know exactly who it is. Don't make me suffer for much longer though, let me know he is back."
"Lockwood & Co. Series" By Jonathan Stroud
"Can I offer you a cup of tea while you ransack our place?"
Finally! One that made me laugh. The others seemed so very serious, and sometimes you need a laugh.
Despite how enriching and rewarding reading is, more than half of adults wish they had more time for it, according to a study commissioned by TUI Blue. In fact, out of 5,000 people surveyed, one in four admitted that the only time they open a book is on holiday.
So how do we break that spell and make time for books? Eden’s advice is simple: “Choose a book, any book, and take it slow!”
She suggests carving out dedicated reading time, whether it’s 30 minutes or an hour a day, or setting a goal like reading 50 or 100 pages at a time. “Whatever works for you, just make sure to stay consistent,” she encouraged. “Also, make it a goal to find a genre you truly enjoy. Once you do, your reading stamina will grow stronger.”
Before wrapping up our conversation, I had to ask Eden to share a favorite book quote to add to the list.
“I love this question because every time someone asks me for my favorite book or quote, I get all giddy and nervous about choosing only one!” she said excitedly. “But today, I’ll pick the first one that came to mind:
‘You’ll eventually meet the people who you’re meant to meet, no matter what happens.’ — Almond by Won-Pyung Sohn.”
"Circe" By Madeline Miller
"He was another knife. I could feel it. A different sort, but a knife sitll. I did not care. I thought: give me the blade. Some things are worth spilling blood for."

“Look, I didn’t want to be a half-blood.”
First 5 books, incredible. Second 5, great. Rest- various quality. Honestly some would have been better had the characters from the first 10 not been in them. (I'm salty about Jason, I just didn't see the point...)

"Don't die Draco" "Only because you asked Granger"
"All The Young Dudes" By Mskingbean89
“You can’t read, can you?”
Absolutely zero of these made me want to read the corresponding book. And a lot of these aren't even books, they're fanfiction. Fanfics are not books. They're fine, and I've read a lot of good fanfics, but they're not books.
Unless they are comics, or graphic novels, and if they are text on paper, bound between covers, fan fiction are books.

If you're looking for a brilliant novel (it's a thriller), I absolutely cannot recommend this one highly enough: it's called 10:59 by N. R. Baker. Check Amazon/Goodread reviews. A quote from the back cover: "Everyone's going to be talking about this book. If not, they should be." Couldn't agree more.

Stephen King is my lifelong favorite author. My dad got me "The Waste Lands" for Christmas when I was 10. He chose it based on its massive page count, not realizing it was the third book in the series. He ended up getting the first two books for me, as I was already hooked. My dad ended up reading it too, and loved it as well. He used to joke that Mr. King would die of old age before he finished the series. Then, of course, SK got hit by a van. Fortunately he survived, but unfortunately, my dad never got to finish the Dark Tower series. My dad fell off of a ladder in November of 2000 and sustained a catastrophic brain injury. I read him the final three books, but I don't know how aware he was or if he even heard me. He died in 2021. I hope Stephen writes for many, many more years. Long days and pleasant nights, Zelda <3 the_waste_...e1655b.jpg
I feel like these quotes would be more powerful if we knew the context. As they are, most of them don't make me wanna read the whole book.
The only quotes that spoke to me are from the books I've read, and Oscar Wilde's. I conclude one line is not enough for me, Oscar Wilde is a quote machine, and I will read De Profundis next.

My perfect quote from one of my most-beloved books is "WORDS IN THE HEART CANNOT BE TAKEN" (and yes, it has to be in all caps). The book - as all of his books - has SO many quotables, though. Still ... that's the one that always gets me teary. Another good one from that book is "Whoever had created humanity had left in a major design flaw. It was its tendency to bend at the knees.” Kudos to those who know what book it is ;-)

All these fictional quotes and nothing from The Bible? Odd, it’s really quotable apparently.
I personally don't give a.r.a. what someone I don't know or care about's fave books are.
