If your city has a metro or train system, you’re probably pretty thankful it’s there. Even if it’s unpredictable and needs a remodel, it’s better than having to deal with city traffic and parking.
That said, there are some people who really take public transport for granted and treat it like it’s their own personal bedroom, bathroom, and… actually, there is no comparison, I don’t know anybody who has a room in their own house where they think it’s appropriate to throw food all over the floor and leave it there.
When you’re using public transport, remember that the “public” means everyone has to use it, and next time, you could be the person getting nail clippings flicked into your lap.

Researchers analyzing handrails and other surfaces in the London Underground found an astonishing variety of bacteria that get there by way of human feces, rats, mice, and sewage. Some are even associated with antibiotic-resistant infections.
While the researchers reassure readers that the bacteria won’t be able to get through to most people with healthy immune systems just through skin contact, immunocompromised people, and those who visit people who are, should be extra-careful with hygiene after passing through.

As far as the number of unique bacteria found, the New York metro blew London out of the water by the measurements of one study. It mostly paints a similar picture of pathogens that are usually riding around with us in quantities too small to do us harm, but there are some additional residents: New York is ruled by a type of bacteria that’s used to clean up toxic metals from wastewater. Benevolent bacteria used to ferment kimchi and age cheese also like to tag along with metro riders.
In one statistic that's so ominous it's almost funny, researchers also found an abundance of DNA that didn’t match any identifiable organism.

What Bugs Me Most About This Is That There’s Usually A Super Nice Guy In A Wheelchair Who Stays There And I Bet He Had To Move Because Of This Lovely Person
I delayed a train the other day because I couldn't access the wheelchair area of my train because inconsiderate a**holes had left their luggage in the clearly labeled wheelchair area. The guard getting me on the train had to find the luggage owners and make them move their luggage to the luggage racks (all empty and like 5m away) but the 'lovely' luggage owners refused. It took the guard threatening to call transport police to remove them from the train (wheelchair spaces are protected by law on public transport in Britain) for them to finally and slowly move their stuff. They then loudly moaned when the tannoy announcement said we were now running 10 minutes late, seemingly unable to understand that they delayed us. Was a horrible train journey and I wish people were more considerate to wheelchair designated areas, you never know if you'll end up in a wheelchair one day- I didn't expect to!

Ok, first, are there no employees on those metros? Second, why does everyone simply accept this? I always have people move over and move their bags when I want to sit on a crowded train. I’m not standing for 20+ minutes while someone else uses more than one seat!
I'm not sure about other cities, but NYC MTA personnel do not man the train cars. Also, you take your own life and well-being in to your hands if you ask someone to move or move their stuff.

Perhaps they've been groped or assaulted one to many times and now don't give an eff if you have to stand, so that they have a grope free day. Making fun of the homeless is never ok, btw. where I come from you can still ask "can I sit here" and people will remove their stuff. If I take the train and theres no one in the compartement I place my bag on a seat too. untill it gets crowed and I take it on my lap. Some one wants to sit next to me I take it, no problem. Having said that, once some crazy women just sat on my purse without asking, I was the ONLY person in the trains compartement, she walked in, had 50 seats to choose from, saw me, and just sat down on my purse and then I was the bad one.
I am really getting tired of millennials and centennials not doing s**t when confronted with these situations in real time, choosing instead to take photos and expect us to cry in outrage and rally behind them when we see them in pointless sites like this one. If you didn't say anything to these people while they were doing their stuff, don't expect me to react the way you want me to when I see this kind of content. It's not gonna happen.
Social acceptance of those behaviours is what strengthens them. If everyone around reacted and for example shoved off the person from the seat then perhaps in time we wouldn't see such situations. But now everyone just looks, takes pics and is brave to post on the net and whine there.
I always thought that trains here in the Philippines are the worst in the world, always crowded, always having technical problems, delays, lack of train wagons but after seeing this I was relieved that people here are very considerate to others. Load More Replies...Now I understand why my friend wouldn't let me take the subway when I was in NYC visiting. I always wanted to try it but he refused to let me. His parents were/are very wealthy so I thought he was acting like a rich kid. They all need to learn from Japan. Their subway is the best in the world, so clean and never ever late. Now trying to figure your routes is a different story. Lol
I rode public buses when I was in High School. I vowed from then on to use public transit as little as possible. I understand that makes me part of what's wrong with America, but seriously, look at it.
I have seen scenes like these in England mostly. Lots of people don't respect public property and other people, I would have to say mostly immigrants. Going to live in a place nicer than your country ... doesn't it mean that you want to keep it that way? Many people ruin the things in the shops without buying anything. It is a disaster. Western Europe's culture is built for many centuries and it took a lot of time to adjust rules and behavior so people could live together without bothering each other. Now with all the immigration, people from different countries come and behave the same way as in their own dysfunctional society and expect that locals will clean the mess. Some even act as if locals own them something. Don't pretend it is not true. Yes, in their countries nobody says anything about pistachios on the floor ... only that they don't have metro but only dirt roads. I know, I am an immigrant too. The locals treat all people as if they are responsible enough, which is a mistake - they are not used to follow any rules and should be fined until they learn to respect rules and society. It is for their own good.
So, if some immigrant breaking the law and doing lots of such stuff - he/she should be recorded each time by police for doing it, after like 3-5 such situations be not allowed to enter the country. This is how I see it. I always follow all the public rules, always respect the country I live in. I always thought it is a logical and natural way of behaviour when you come to a foreign country to build your future. But I never knew before that some immigrants just come to s**t on another country.

I've never been on a subway/ metro. I think it would take someone holding a gun to my head to make me get on one. Not that anyone would notice.
Better title would have been "100 reasons for civilised people to stop using public transport."
Some things - nail clipping, feet in your face, trash - are gross, but at least some of the people on here are homeless or maybe simply exhausted. We don't know. And some countries allow smoking and littering on trains, so these things are only antisocial when in a country where it's not pernitted.

We do have a nice world. It's awesome and we literally, empirically are the luckiest people to have ever lived. It's time to be more grateful.

They do it to show that they aren't poor and that they don't have to work with their hands! If you really have sat down with a person that explained to you it's ok to pick their nose you are 1) an idiot and 2) you deserved that nose picking.
