We've all heard about crappy design, something that turns a blind eye to user-friendliness, logic and common sense, aesthetics, and people in general. We’re talking billboards, TV ads, product packaging and product design, websites and apps, you name it.
The phenomenon of crappy design is that no matter how much our marketing strategies and advertising techniques have evolved in the past decades, it still finds its place in our daily lives. Check out some examples of crappy design in Bored Panda’s previous features here, here and here.
This time, we are taking a step further. Sometimes the design is so annoying, senseless and defunct that it seems like the brands are doing this deliberately or at least without shame. There’s even a whole corner of reddit dedicated to cases “when a*** design things.”
With a whopping 2.9 million members, the community pokes fun at the mentality that “nothing comes before profit, especially not the consumer.” Below, we wrapped up some of the evilest designs, so let us know what you think of them in the comments!

Ah Station Design
Cruelty. I was gonna make a comment about Tories, because they'd do this, but it's NYC.
I naively wanted to believe we're the only country that does something this cruel and stupid. Sigh. Jerks are everywhere.
Load More Replies...Too many people seem incapable of understanding that we all do better when we all do better.
Oh great, so when the train is delayed I’m supposed to….stand? On my legs that don’t work properly? And because you think that a couple of people without homes deserve no help at all. Ye gods, this planet man.
They do this everywhere now, also with the hostile architecture. Because the real issue is that Karen might have to look at a homeless person, not that actually living human beings have no where to sleep.
There're other considerations such as sanitation (urination and defecation), antisocial behaviour, drug use and increased crime such as theft and assault where homeless people tend to congregate to sleep.
Load More Replies...Yeah, let's punish the homeless just a little bit more. It infuriates me every time I hear about something that has been changed for the worst because of the homeless. If I go somewhere and see a homeless person sleeping on a bench I leave them be. For them that's their bed for the moment. If I see a homeless person sleeping in an area that's sheltered from the elements, that's their home for the moment. It may inconvenience me by not having a seat for the moment but they need that spot way more than I do at that moment. We should help these folks instead of acting like their the problem and making their life that much harder.
"but the people we don't like lose more"... this was also the feeling after some local bike lane plans got cancelled by businesses who wanted parking instead. They got the bike lanes cancelled, didn't get their parking, but called it a success.
Load More Replies...This lack of empathy is exactly what's wrong with the world. We just don't give a s**t about other people.
Taxes
Meanwhile in the "evil" EU: "if you could click to verify that the taxes we calculated for you are correct, that would be very nice. By the way, we will return some of the money back to you in a few months".
The only people who think the EU is evil are people who think that words with the root of "social" or "community" are slurs to use against the enemy. I'm not saying those of us who are still sane look at the whole EU and see a utopia, but it is at worst a case study for several things a lot of other places could do better.
Load More Replies...I lived in the US for many years, doing taxes got easier over the years, but still... Moved back to Finland after hubby died, got a letter from our IRS. All I had to do was to check it was ok, sign and send back. That was 2 years ago. Now it is over the net. Of course, I get a paper copy at some point, but I automatically get my refund at a set date, if I owe I put it in the system how much I want to pay each month
Meanwhile, Central Europe - ok, we've made it for you. Just log into your tax account, check if everything is alright, and press the approval button. 3 minutes, once a year. I hate my gov, but this is amazing!
Best description ever. It's like playing a game with a toddler. By the time it's over you're mentally exhausted and no further ahead than you were before you started.
Accurate, but I'll still take playing a game with a toddler. Not that I mind paying taxes, it's all the other stuff involved (though to be fair, you have to work pretty hard to actually go to prison for "just" messing up taxes at least in the US, but it's distressingly easy to end up owing more.)
Load More Replies...Or the fact the Turbo Tax lobbies the government to keep it complicated...
This. John Oliver did an awesome expose about it. Well worth the watch
Load More Replies...You don't go to prison. You pay the difference. If you don't pay the difference, usually for several years, the IRS comes looking for you. If you continue to refuse to pay, then you go to prison.
Appstore For You
and then you have to watch the 30+ seconds add, push the two arrow button and then have to wait another three seconds to try to push the small x
Load More Replies...Another equally jerk design is the "X button" that is part of the video in the ad
Exactly! The gameplay in the ad is completely different from the real game. If they have to use a different game in the ad, just change the game to the ad game.
Load More Replies...I had one today where I hit an x, another screen timer and another x, another screen and another x, another screen and another timer and another x. 4 f*****g times! I don't care how awesome the game is, I would never use a product from people employ such hostile advertising.
The absolute worst are the ads that make you click 3 times at 3 separate screens before dumping you in the app store to click a 4th time. The most egregious users of this type are Merge Mansion and Township. I wish they knew they were actually losing customers, because I would go out of my way to avoid their apps solely because of their intrusive ads.
Bad design can be found everywhere, from the products we use every day to the websites we visit. Poorly designed products can be difficult to use, causing us to waste time and energy. They can also be dangerous, as faulty product or packaging designs can lead to accidents.
Meanwhile, websites with bad design can be hard to navigate, preventing us from finding the information we need. They can also be visually unappealing, making us less likely to return. At the same time app can have a very bad user experience which means people will be reluctant to use it. From confusing navigation to cluttered layouts, anyone can spot a very poor design.
Brand New Protein Powder, Not Even Filled Half Whey
Put lid back on, shake vigorously. Open lid and see the level before settling.
Load More Replies...Maybe they're thinking it's a waste of materials if the container is less than half full.
Load More Replies...Sold by weight, not by volume. Products settle over time. You're not getting ripped off.
Unnecessary use of plastic, worse than being ripped off
Load More Replies...For the people saying "it's sold by weight" or are saying something about "slackfill", you miss the point of this list. These aren't a list of illegal designs, they're jerk designs. If a container that could hold 5 kg of powder contains just 2 kg, it's perfectly legal so long as the container is labeled as 2 kg of product; literally no one is debating the legality. However, when a manufacturer uses packaging that is substantially larger than necessary, they are deliberately trying to deceive you into believing it's a better value than it really is, and they're wasting material. I would absolutely consider deliberate deception and wastefulness to be jerk design.
Felt Like This Sub Would Appreciate This Statement
Well, you'd succeed at doing what your boss definitely told you to do... "Maybe later" is an executive committee's way of manipulating users...
Load More Replies...Preach, brother! It's not "maybe later," it's "absolutely never."
I also hate buttons that say thing like “no, I hate great content (or paying less, getting a better price, or whatever). Like- don’t insult my intelligence or taste for not wanting your useless, spammy emails.
"Do you want Apple to replace your operating system with the latest that has extra privacy invasion?" Possible answers: 1. Yes, right now. 2. Yes, in an hour. 3. Gosh, please ask me again tomorrow!
I think it's 3. "NO" but you didn't really mean that so I'll do it anyway

Screw You Pinterest
Your content fills up and pollutes the search engine results yet people can’t even view your bulls**t user-submitted content without signing up for a damn account. Going to add to you to my Personal Blocklist so you don’t appear in my searches and waste my time anymore.
Pinterest is a cesspool. I found some of my facebook photos had been uploaded on pinterest. A girl (wannabe maker/influencer/scammer) reuploaded them with her watermark and used them as example of her creations. Had to subscribe to the website to report the images, and after weeks of waiting... nothing happened. Zero answers, support or even an automated mail. In the meanwhile those images were stolen by others and popped around for a while on other websites, mostly on ads of promoting scams. Stopped uploading my work anywhere.
And that's why i keep my photos and my drawings for me , my family and my close friends ....i'm sorry it happened to you
Load More Replies...Yeah, this is annoying. Sometimes throw in a "-pinterest" into the search bar because of how bad it is.
Yeah, Pinterest was the reason I started using a blacklist add-on for my Google searches.
Load More Replies...To be honest, I like Pinterest. I use it for drawing/painting references and finding ideas for presents.
Yeah, I like it too. I use it for writing inspiration.
Load More Replies...I’ll second that. It’s not like Pinterest actually owns any of the material in their site. They’re just a picture aggregator that harvests your personal details.
Search engines used to allow you to exclude certain sites from the search but that option went away so we can see more of this nonsense.
Some still allow boolean commands so you can possibly try -pinterest or -inurl:[domain]. The latter requires a block to the i.pinimg com domain to knock it from image results.
Load More Replies...Look at deviantart or twitter. Pinterest often lacks credit. Its better to give the artists support via likes and views and whatnot.
Load More Replies...This is why when I google anything I always put "-pinterest" at the end so it filters out all pinterest links.
I used Pinterest a LOT but I make a lotta moodboard / edits of my ocs for fun and google isn't as good. I don't exactly use it as a form of social media.
Same. I save stuff for art references, stories I plan to write, and then I save memes.
Load More Replies...The worst is when they take it and mutilate it, lol, someone took my drawing and recolored it horribly on MS paint. Then another time someone traced my fanart with colored pencils or crayons or something (couldn't tell), and lo and behold, I discovered it on a "mailtime" video, where the youtubers opened it. If you're gonna steal AT LEAST STEAL WELL hahaha
Jerk designs seem to take a step further than simply bad designs and come across as downright unethical and immoral. They snuck their way into the products and services we consume, and sometimes we don’t even notice them.
According to Danny Sapio, the lead product designer at Method and cofounder of Confettihabits.com, shrinkflation is a classic case of less product and more profit. “Companies use this tactic to discreetly sell less of a product at the same price that it was before.”
Moreover, Sapio argues that “companies can do this through labeling by displaying “FAMILY SIZE” or “PARTY SIZE” despite it being the same amount as the regular item.” For us, the unsuspecting shoppers, it’s something that’s really easy to miss.
Trashy Company
It depends if they get permission from the photographer. The copyright belongs to the photographer. not the model.
Load More Replies...My friend got her family pictures used on the packing of a windows phone a few years back when Microsoft still tried doing mobile. Crazy thing is those pictures were private and on their phones.
For those who don't know, Mr. Brownlee is a popular (and very good) YT tech reviewer which is probably why they chose him in the first place. Shady at best imo.
Using the image of a well known tech reviewer without permission for a tech (or tech adjacent) product? What could go wrong? That said, I don't know if this is worse than those Amazon photos that are so egregiously photoshopped that you are pretty sure the "people in the photo" haven't ever even been in, say, a swimming pool, much less the one in the photo.
Load More Replies...Plot twist: It was actually the world's greatest chair. Marques Brownlee is telling everyone not to buy them to keep the demand low. That way, he can buy them in bulk and flip them for a profit, so he can continue to buy chairs. Obviously, Marques needs to see an armchair psychologist about his addiction.
More like a decliner person, amiright? Sorry, I'll see myself out.
Load More Replies...Hellofresh. If I Don’t Need To Call To Make Orders, I Shouldn’t Need To Call To Unsubscribe
Also for people who have hearing/speech problems and can't hold a conversation over a phone.
Load More Replies...Spoiler alert - They are NEVER happy to help you cancel. They are only happy to use tricks to make you stay!
I swaped out my debit card in the payment part for a card that would be declined. After a couple months of no payment, my account was canceled. I am.not an introvert, but I HATE having to call places like this. I used an old visa gift card that had like $2 left on it. If you don't have a card to use that will be declined, you could go buy a visa gift card and load it with $5. I get at that point it would probably be easier to call, but maybe not for some of us. I fully admit, I would go get a new low balance card over calling, that is how much I hate it, and I am petty like that some times and want to beat them at their own game.
Load More Replies...You can unsubscribe from hello fresh on their website, not the app. Also they sent me 75% off coupons when I did. I would resign up, cancel, get the coupon a couple days later, resign up, cancel. Did this about 5 times until they stopped sending me coupons lol.
Yup! I'm currently in my 3rd round of using the service.
Load More Replies...You are so lucky! You should do a TED talk on the specific steps you took..lol...
Load More Replies...The "you can easily sign up online, but must go back in time, find a fax machine, and submit documents in triplicate to cancel" stuff is my pet peeve.
Lots of gyms and at least one membership based massage chain has everything automated to sign up or come in but you have to cancel in writing, possibly to a place other than the location you go to, in order to quit.
Load More Replies...My insurance does the same. I can do anything via the app EXCEPT cancel something.
I recently cancelled a membership. You can join online, but to cancel, I had to make an physical appointment to their location. The next "free time" was two and a half weeks out. The membership also included a bank account to which the bonuses were paid. They could not, for reasons still unclear to me, transfer the money to my usual account, but I had to withdraw it in cash.
This sounds really absurd, it's a kind of bureaucratic dystopia thing.
Load More Replies...They try to guilt you into staying. Offer you discounts, different plans, it was crazy!
So many things on here that happen in the US are literally illegal in Australia... I read these things and I'm in shock.
If you read anything online with any regularity, nothing should shock you about the US. It's all absurd.
Load More Replies...Cashing In On That *cough*
The US is the only country you can go bankrupt because of medical debt, trust me I know from personal experience
I had to file for bankruptcy at 24 because of medical debt. I've had no less than three people tell me I should have just sucked it up when I got sick because I'm just an entitled millennial with no right to medical care.
Load More Replies...In America, ALWAYS ask for an itemized list of hospital charges. I have lupus and we would be dead broke without this habit. Once got a hospital bill down 65% by making them explain every charge. They found so many "erroneous charges" it was amazing. I was charged for a CAT scan I did not get. It is now LAW. They cannot say no to giving you that list.
Yes, if you *make* them go over it line by line they will typically capitulate…
Load More Replies...Absolutely. I have a serious medical condition that is going to require surgery and I'm having panic attacks already about how much I'm going to pay out of pocket. Never mind that I actually have medical insurance - I needed an MRI this week and they told me I would be on the hook for $900 after my insurance pays their part. Seeing a specialist for a consultation cost me $875 after insurance as well. I've had thousands in ER bills too. And I'm likely looking at around $15,000 that my insurance won't cover for this surgery. How does anyone afford to be sick in this country? I'm considering putting it off, even though I really do need to have it done. Most days I hate being a citizen of the US. The government only cares about money, not people.
Load More Replies...I had surgery to repair a sports hernia, and the woman I was dating at the time assisted on the operation (she was a foot surgeon and had her own practice). She requested an itemized bill, and on it there was a listing for "medication transport fee," with each (six of them) being a $20 charge. I couldn't figure that one out, but it turns out the "transfer fee" was the nurse carrying Tylenol down the hall to my room. My surgeon girlfriend actually defended it (she requested the itemized bill so she could see any little tricks she could use in her billings), saying that the nurse's time was worth the charges. Nope.
How long did it take for the nurse to bring that Tylenol? Let's say 1min to go there, 1 min to stay, 1min to leave. Makes $20 every 3min for the nurse, right? So her hourly wage is $400. Okay, let's say 50 % of that goes to the hospital itself, still she makes $200 an hour. No? What am I missing here? (yeah, it's sarcasm. Bull*hit system!)
Load More Replies...I broke my ankle during lockdown. Everyone else is out jogging and exercising and cycling during their allowed exercise. I spend half an hour walking my dog in a deserted field and fall over her. Yep, I inherited the clumsy gene. I had 3 X-rays, 3 different casts (a half cast, a royal blue cast with silver disco glitter on and a dark green cast with red Christmas glitter). I had to have a course of blood thinner injections because I wasn’t very mobile. I had a little knee scooter so I could scoot round without putting weight on my ankle and a pair of crutches. I then had a solid ankle brace and 12 weeks of physio. Total cost £0. To be fair, I should have paid £9 odd for the injections but the card reader wasn’t working at the hospital pharmacy and they couldn’t be bothered so they just gave them to me.
The cost of all that here would've been astronomical.
Load More Replies...Another great example of jer design practices is the use of lethal enforcers. They require the user to take the action that the company wants before they can do what they intend to do.
“Lethal enforcers are essentially a way that companies gatekeep the decision making for users. Instead of giving users a free choice, the company decides for the individual the decision that should be made then makes that their only choice,” Sapio explained.
An example of a lethal enforcer is when you want to write a review on Yelp but have to download the brand’s app first. “Or when a company suppresses relevant search results to display sponsored products or content.”

At least you got 1 full slice of ham/cheese in each. I've seen some where it's just the short strips at the front bit of the sandwhich. :/
I Chose The Bottle Because A Tube Wasn't Enough! This Trojan Trickery Is An Abuse Coming From A Brand With Recognition
Well here’s a company that cares FA about both its customers and the environment.
I doubt there are many companies that care about anything but money
Load More Replies...Always, always check how much you are actually being sold. Don't rely on the size of the packaging.
Of course, but that still doesn't excuse deliberately trying to mislead consumers. This is not accidental.
Load More Replies...And 3m says "the amount is clearly labeled on the packaging". But then why are you clearly deliberately disguising the amount with packaging???
3m i think is the parent company for Scotch the volume is listed on the opposite side of the 3m brand and in much smaller black lettering that doesn't appear to be easy to read on the black and red background
Load More Replies...Paper clips at the dollar store say 200 but there’s 185 and 163 in the packs I counted preparing kits for kids!
Not only is it deceptive packaging, but it makes the actual product harder to use. How do you squeeze that small tube all the way out through a plastic casing?
Bought These Sticky Notes Cause I Thought The Gold Border Was Nice
Wow that probably saves the company. 000000001 of a penny on every item!
Makeup used to just put glitter on top, not in the product. Do they still do that?
So did I!! And I came to read the comments to see if anyone else had. Lol
Load More Replies...Sapio also urges to look out for one of the trick questions known as the loaded questions. They take an advantage of our good nature. “We assume that we don’t need to read the entire question because we’ve already collected the information we need to answer it.”
Natural Is A Trademark
A trademark is not legally allowed to be of a descriptive nature, so they are lying about that (it may well be their brand name, but it wouldn't be a registered trademark)
Load More Replies...It's an unregulated term and pretty much meaningless on whether something is natural.
In the UK, it's a legal description and has to describe exactly what is in the pack
Load More Replies...I love that word, wanker. I wish we had it here in the US, we definitely have a lot of them here😁

Has to have a certain amount of juice in it to be called juice. I guess that 27% juice is 100% juice! :P Jokes aside, is this cranberry? Going much above 27% cranberry juice is too tart for most people.
I made the mistake of buying 100% pure unadulterated cranberry juice last week. My lips still haven't unpuckered.
Load More Replies...In Australia, for it o be called fruit juice it has to have at least 96% juice, otherwise it has to be called fruit drink.
That's what mcdonalds in Canada does, their meat is advertised as %100 beef, but %100 beef is the name of the company and not the amount of beef in the pattys
Really?
They literally had to spend money to write software that delayed emails by 2-4 hours.
Mine is free. But yes it takes longer to set up a delay then sending instantly
Load More Replies...They just want your 43 cents to queue it directly, otherwise they'll queue it in a few hours.
Load More Replies...Right. And they themselves demonstrate exactly why we should. "Foot now in position. Ready, aim, fire!"
Load More Replies...Of course it's automated, doesn't mean there's not something involved that rate-limits it and you're paying to go to the head of the line.
Load More Replies...Make it like the old pizza companies. If you don't get it in Instantly or less, you get it free.
This reminds me of this online driving school i did call LowestPriceTrafficSchool.com. Probably not the lowest price and when you get to the ship certificate part the give multiple 4 options things. I did the free ones be after i hit done it ended up sending me back to the shiping method because they are trying to drain your money so i re-did the free options. I absolutely do not recommend it.
Another very shady design practice is throttling. “Throttling is when a company intentionally downgrades the service or product with the hopes that the customer upgrade. This is different than forced obsolescence because the product still works; it’s just much slower and shittier than it used to be,” the product designer explained.
It turns out that even giant brands like Apple have been found guilty of this. Apple has settled a class-action lawsuit over its practice of slowing down older iPhones, agreeing to pay up to $500 million to impacted consumers.
“Another example is ‘unlimited’ data providers that sneakily slow down internet speeds once they pass a certain threshold of data usage,” Sapio concluded.
Youtuber Gets Every Single Video On His Channel Copyright Claimed Despite Having The Rights To All The Music In His Videos
Similar to the lowfigirl channel, had the rights to the music on the channel and was overnight deleted on false copyright claims.
I remember girl on youtube, who posted videos of her singing. Songs were her own. She was quite good at it. They deleted her channel because of copyright claims.
what on god's green buttcheek is that about???

Leading him to believe that YouTube was playing favorites (1/2)
(2/2) When Cory reached out to YouTube they unrestricted his video but the damage that can do to a smaller channel was already done (game channels on YouTube need to stay on top of trending games to keep growing , having a video sit restricted for several days is a death nail to it) so he reached out again and asked why his video was restricted and not someone like Markiplier or Jacksepticeye (friends of his) and instead of giving a response, everyone's video got age restricted including his again. --- Hell GameTheory is a massive channel that raises millions of $ for children's hospitals every year on YouTube and even they get treated like second class citizens when it comes to YouTube. Load More Replies...Ahhh... the drama of Astartes was even worse. The creator's channel hacked and stolen and the channel owner couldn't get YouTube to do anything. YouTube claimed that only the current channel operator could file a fraud claim that would open an investigation.
YouTube's copyright system is broken. Pretty much anyone can file a claim against any channel just because they feel like it.
Someone did exactly that and almost got some people's accounts permanently banned. They even got the account for a gaming studio's videos flagged for copywrite claims when it is content they themselves have ownership of. Which is probably part of why said studio wound up suing the pants off of the person when they tracked them down.
Load More Replies...He didn't own the rights to anything. He had permission to use a song, but not the samples the song contained (which belonged to a publisher for a different artist).
Yeah, he went over this in another video. Still stupid.
Load More Replies...Something similar to this happened to Destiny 2 content creators as well as the official channel for Bungie, the studio that created Destiny. It was the work of someone who fraudulently put in a huge amount of copywrite claims and wound up being sued by Bungie when they found him.

We NEED an alternative to YT , it's become an authoritien nightmare, banning well loved channels, with no explanation or warning..while letting soft porn, child porn, and worse to stay. ..they've become to big to be questioned, hold no respect for their clients, (in reality, their bread n butter) . It's gotta stop..and they won't.. so we NEED an alternative

Just hold up the queue on purpose till the ad finishes, so you can choose what you want!

Considering the effect McDonald's food has on the public's health, this is a good thing.
Load More Replies...McDonald's do you want to sell food or have people watch TV? Make up your mind.
Yes, that is also in Holland. Takes me now much more time to order since I need to wait until my choice reappears.
Most Dutch McDonald's restaurants have ordering terminals nowadays, and I see that most guests are using those, instead of ordering at the counter. So the menu above the counter is less being used. But it's not very hospitable towards guests who can't use an ordering terminal, for whatever reason.
Load More Replies...Costa in the UK does a similar thing, except it flicks through different parts of the menu. Didn't finish reading the hot drinks? Too bad, got wait whilst it cycles through the specials, cold drinks, and an add first.
Both Weigh 500g But The Green One Is In A 30% "Bigger Bag More To Share"
Customer: it's a bigger bag with more chips. Company: no no, it's just a bigger bag
I can't wait to share that 30% Dorito air with my friends! Breath it in boys!
Kind of like when you wreck your car and the potato chip bags come out of the steering wheel. "Since safety is important, we asked the experts on air bags to design your car:"
Load More Replies...Yeah, "original salted" makes it sound like a plain dorito!
Load More Replies...These are different products with different codes - the green one is thinner so most likely a travel pack. The "30% bigger bag" will state on it what it compares to - and it will not be that yellow one, it will be the standard travel pack.
I appreciate you trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, but no. The bags are next to each other on the shelf, and similar widths. Also, 500g is over a pound of chips, and 30% less would not be a travel/snack pack.
Load More Replies...What a utterly ridiculous reason for more of plastic that would eventually end up in seas and stuff.
That's called shrinkflation. Instead of raising the prices they just put less in the same sized container. It's becoming increasingly important to not only look at the price but the weight and determine cost per gram (or ounce) because a smaller size might actually be a better value than the bigger emptier bag.
Cup Design That Makes The Drink Look Like It Has Actual Fruit
Not if the label is clear on what it contains. As long as it doesn't specifically state that it contains actual fruit it's not false advertising, simply misleading packaging. That's a big difference in the eyes of the law.
Load More Replies...Oh yeah, I heard about this so apparently (if this is Japanese with those sign letters) in japan they are not allowed to put pictures of fruit on products that don't contain 100% fruit (juicy oranges, strawberries, etc) so they have to animate it instead if it only has up to a certain percentage of fruit in it. TL:DR In Japan they animate drinks that aren't 100% fruit.
Disney Leaves The Inside Of Their $6 Icecream Hollow
Agreed. No matter how much they try to advertise how fun and magical it is, no it isn't. I've made a vow to never go back to Disney world. (Please don't down vote, just my personal opinion).
Load More Replies...That's actually an old ice cream scooping trick. I was told to do that in dairy bars back in the 1950s. (I'm old.)

No he wouldn't! Walt was in it to make money, which is fine, but don't treat him as someone who wouldn't push the limits of truth for a profit.
Load More Replies...It's because of how the put it in the cup. They have a nozzle that the ice cream is pushed through, and the person just turns the machine on and move the cup in a spiral to get the right shape.

Load More Replies...Worst than that: in my country (Switzerland, french part), some show are available in amazon prime menu, but when you click on it, it refuse to start... no message, no explanation, nothing. Another example: a french movie (in originla french language), which is available on Prime in France, is only available in german (no subtitle, no other language, no original language) in Switzerland. Last example: some month ago, I started a new anime on amazon. Each night after work I watched like 2 episodes. When I want to start the 7th (the 4th evening): nothing worked. The episodes 7,8,9 and 10 (last one) are here, on the list, on the serie, but didn't start. I thought it was a bug, so I try the next day... it got worst: the serie is listed, but impossible to get into it. Next week, the serie is only available in german... final: 3 months later, the serie is again available fully in french. AMAZON PRIME is F**KED UP!
I would deal with f**ked up Amazon Prime if I was able to live in Switzerland

We should all be aware now that capitalist companies will do anything to f**k us. They are not our friends, they are not likeable and we should hold no brand loyalty. They jockey for market share by any means necessary. We are their marks and all we are are another pocket to squeeze from.
To quote Gabe Newell: "One thing that we have learned is that piracy is not a pricing issue. It’s a service issue... The easiest way to stop piracy is not by putting antipiracy technology to work. It’s by giving those people a service that’s better than what they’re receiving from the pirates."
I appreciate the utter crapness of this, but it might well be that it doesn't know your actual location until you subscribe. However, if this is the case, then it needs to be more transparent and say that the content is not available in all countries, and preferably have a pop up to let you see which countries it is available in.
This Design Pisses Me Off Every Single Day
One of the worst things about this is that the adapters I've found to be practically disposable. I've been through maybe 20 of them, tried every price range, and they all break within a month or so. Such a racket.
You know Apple is fighting a law in the EU that would require universal plugs on all devices. They claim it would stifle innovation. More like it will prevent them from coming up with a new plug every phone with new chargers and adapters that you have to buy separately in addition to the $1k pricetag of the phone.
In the uk all devices new devices now use the same charging port, including apple.

Load More Replies...Yup. Really destroys the book. Hope you don't lose any pages. Also has little resale value.
Your final sentence is the true reason. They used to do insignificant version updates every year, and had predatory sales practices to encourage colleges to force students to always buy the newest version. Amazon originality built their business by reselling used college textbooks, which meant resale was suddenly at such a high scale that the scam didn't work anymore and nobody was buying new textbooks if they could help it. Making the product less durable and more difficult to resell is just the new version of that same old scam.

On comments too. I desperately need to know how much I upset the Phil McGraw stans.
Or if a video has dangerous advice...such as high voltage electronics projects where kids could watch them, or bad medical ideas...or would incite hatred towards the concept of making your own life situation better with your own effort and hard work....
After this rule I stopped using the like/dislike buttons. If the info is not open for everyone to see, you dont't get my opinion.
There's a chrome extension that allows you to see the number of dislikes in yt vids. :)
That's handy, thanks, but I guess the dislike count has lost its value as when people don't see the count, they simply don't press 'dislike' anymore where they would have otherwise.
Load More Replies...Not necessarily with small, upstart channels. Ones with little to no following tend to get downvotes the most because people don't like the quality, the content itself or the person isn't comfortable being on camera yet, or any sort of silly reason. Or it could be from people who know the person behind the channel and have a personal issue with them. Commenting is actually more affective at getting your opinion across as then the creator can see what can be improved and what is working with viewers.
This. So much this. I follow a few moderately-known channels and before the dislike button got blindfolded, there used to be so many dislikes when they said something that offended a certain group of people. And I'm not even saying that they were offensive! They just stated an opinion about something or reacted to a song that was currently trending in being "cancelworthy" and BAM - dislike galore. If some weirdos do that on a huge channel with tons of likes, it just passes by. But on smaller channels, it can easily get them more dislikes than likes for no reason but people being dipsh*its

The Fact That You Can't Uninstall Facebook On Certain Phones
Bloatware has long been a feature on Android phones, with some major manufacturers like Samsung installing a lot of their own software on top of Android. At least allowing the app to be disabled allows the user to stop it from running automatically.
Not just Facebook but all apps that are part of the base image for that phone.
Which is why you can't uninstall it. You can normally remove any update, but you can only disable the version in the base image. This means that it will still be there if the user does a factory reset.

My Work Place’s ‘Low Plastic, Recyclable Eco-Pens’ Have A Secret At Their Core
The most important part about saving the planet is the illusion that you're helping. 😂
This is a real way to reduce plastic usage though. The plastic core can be much thinner and the fiber paper wrap provides enough strength to compensate the loss of resistance. The plastic used is typically a starch-based bioplastic (such as Materbi) or or sugar-derivative (such as PLA). Both paper and plastic can be recycled as organic material in an industrial composter.
Yesterday was the first time I learned there are plastics made from organic materials that can actually be broken down by the Earth

Here's something pretty disturbing that I learned recently, that has made me throw my reusable bamboo fibre coffee cup in the bin. They are NOT biodegradable, and the resin is created from Melamine Formaldehyde Resin. This Melamine and Formaldehyde, when left at a hot temperature, such as having a hot tea or coffee in your cup, can actually be released into your beverage. For the record, Formaldehyde is used in Embalming fluid, and as a student mortician I can tell you that mortuaries have to be ventilated and we must wear PPE when dealing with such chemicals. It's highly toxic, can cause severe respiratory issues. Contact with formaldehyde can cause burns on the eyes and skin, too.

Load More Replies...It's disposable. If you want something better for the environment ger a Zippo
I have personally 'fixed' several of these, as well as the fuel tanks for the therma-cell mosquito deterrent. I salvaged the valves out of some refillable lighters that the clicker stopped working in, drilled a small hole in the lighter or fuel tank I wanted to make refillable. I locked the valve in my drill, applied super glue all the way around the valve and using the drill to rotate it I pushed it into the bottom of the non refillable lighter. Let the glue dry about 15 minutes and fill with a small amount of butane, to test for leaks. Once I was SURE it wasn't leaking, I went ahead and filled them up. The lighter was more out of principal than anything, but the fuel tanks for the mosquito repellant was RIDICULOUSLY expensive! 3 single use tanks and 6 little pads was like 30 something dollars! My hubby would always forget to turn the thing off, so it would burn thru the entire tank. We end up with a ton of those pads and no fuel tanks..

They don't, after all, need eight billion servants. A collapsed civilization will only make it easier for the few to further own the surviving many. For billionaires and the political Party which serves them, the globe can't warm fast enough.
Stock in Fossil Fuel companies isn't controlled by a tiny minority; it's controlled by literally anyone who invests in a 401k through work or just about any other general investment portfolio. By default these investment companies chose reliable stocks with high return, which (surprise) always includes fossil fuels. The issue there is that most people don't know that their retirement savings are part of the problem.

As**ole School System Charging Kids For Lunch And Then Blaming Parents
B-b-b-but that's.... SOCIALISMCOMMUNISMMARXISM 😱 *blood spurts from nose*
Load More Replies...Several charities and a rich dude attempted to pay off this lunch debt in full and the school district refused to let the debt be paid off.
So, basically they want to rip apart struggling families. Sick.
Load More Replies...This is absurd! Kids should be fed! PERIOD! Some students aren't fed breakfast at home. Lunch may be the only meal with substance they get all day!!!! Free lunches should be provided. Students don't learn well without sustenance!!!! I taught at an intercity, low income area. Our Principal paid for most of the students. She also purchased Red Devil hot sauce for each table. I taught for her eleven years. Then spent several years with absolute jerks until we finally had another outstanding administrator. So, I stayed another dozen years. She retired and we got stuck with an angry, self-aggrandizing monster who wanted to change everything. She micromanaged everything from lesson plans to recess. I left as soon as possible!
How much more would it cost to remove these children from their homes??? Just feed them!!!!
But if they just give free lunches to kids where will they get money to build more tanks?? I mean c'mon!
Exactly! Most of our country's budget goes to the military.
Load More Replies...What the actual eff? I thought school lunches were to feed kids, not punish the parents.
Yep. Here is a prime example of conservative values. They claim they want to protect the children and family values, but it is all b******t. They consistently pass agendas and policies and rules that harm children and families. The only "children" they care about are the unborn fetuses. The ones they really dont have to be actively involved in helping. And let's not forget that Jeff, Elon, Richard, and a handful of other billionaires could single handedly end world hunger, and still be billionaires. Yet, building penis rocket's is the legacy they would rather leave.
Notice also that two of these guys' wives, upon divorcing them, immediately gave away a large part of their divorce settlements helping the poor and needy. I think it shows a large part of the reason for their divorces. No one can stay married to a monster.

Sometimes updates are automatic and you don't have a choice.
Load More Replies...Just had Epson do this to me. F**k printer companies. They are the worst. They also purged the old firmware from everywhere so you can't roll back to the previous version.
I think the EcoJet was designed to sort of solve this problem? I've had my eyes on one for years but never got around to ordering one.
Load More Replies...That's why you always turn off automatic updates. In fact, printers almost never need updates. They are almost all a scam. Let others do updates. Then, when you think you want to update (because you've been scared by some sort of report of external "takeovers" or something, google the update and read third party reviews to ensure that this kind of nonsense isn't part of the update package.
Get the newer bulk printers - thousands of copies in colour & monochrome and the ink hoppers are refillable - moderately cheap to buy the unit too
I wish I could. But for one - money. And second - I don't want to throw away a perfectly working printer just because the ink-system sucks!
Load More Replies...I'm convinced that printers (especially small, personal ones) will make themselves obsolete faster by being an over priced racket of technology that constantly breaks. Can't wait for them to go the way of the fax machine.
There is a way to make it work anyway. Take out cartridge, put it back and close. Then press the resume button for 5 sec minimum. The button usually looks like a triangle with a circle around it
Did you know that all ink cartridges are scams Like they barely have ink inside and in modern models they have a chip that tells your printer to stop printing after only about 30% of the (already not enough ink) gets used And the refilled ones get recognized and rejected
Ink cartridge is too cheap please replace with a cartridge at least $10 dollars more
Oh hell naw. I purchased you. I gave money in order to use you how I want. Either you use what I give you, or we'll reenact the "Office Space" copier scene, and your company will never see another dime from me.

Designed For Dissuading The Homeless. Literally Just Uncomfortable For Everyone Else
Why do people do this stuff? Like, if you dont want people to sleep on the streets, there are infinitely better things to do
In America we have more empty homes than homeless. Gee, I wonder what we could about the MAN MADE "housing crisis?" 🙄
Load More Replies...They could have used the money they wasted on this, on sleeping pods for the homeless. It's a win-win. But no, it's about making others miserable
This is just plain cruel and inhumane. The only people I want removed from anywhere are those who are a danger to themselves or others.
But there are issues where homeless folk congregate to sleep, such as drug and alcohol missuse, sanitation concerns from defecation / urination / vomit / used needles. There is an increased risk of violence such as mugging etc, and a general sense of unease / intimation for the public. A basic risk assessment indicates these issues and how to address them.
Load More Replies...They removed the benches from a bus stop bc of the homeless. But it's a very busy bus stop right at central Station. They ended up getting so many complaints they had to put them back. Existing benches for 50 years = no cost. Removing benches to spite the homeless = probably a couple thousand. Putting benches back bc the people wanted them back = idk 20thousand? Leaving s**t alone = priceless!
People watch too many movies. When I was homeless the last place I wanted to be was in a public place like a subway stop or bus stop on a bench.
Same. I slept in the office at the fast food restaurant I was the night closer at.
Load More Replies...I'm willing to bet these cost a ton more than it would to just have separate smaller seat sized benches [not that I don't want the homeless to have a place to chill here and there BUT let's face it, someone pocketed a great deal of money making these monstrosities]
fr, this bench looks really long and used a lot of metal, but prob no more than two ppl could sit on it. If they wanted to exclude homeless people (which they shouldn't do) it would make more sense to just make a bunch of individual chairs

Facebook is really b******t. I have to use it's Ads Manager, it's a part of my job. But, they have deactivated a few of my account and now, to use the Meta Business bullcrap, I have to use my boss' name and government issued ID card. Wouldn't it be more logical to have business register for Meta Business with their business info and not a personal profile, which can be banned or restricted for litterally no reason? I just had a month long restriction because they couldn't verify my already verified account with the already verified ID photo... And why do you ask for ID photo when I am giving you money, not the other way around? I hate it I hate it I hate it.
I never used Facebook right from the start when they demanded I use my real name and info (I tried with a handle, not a name). I use a pseudonym *everywhere*. I wasn't even going to use that fake name because they ticked me off right from the beginning.
Tenerife Airport Shows Ads On The Flight Information Screens Every Few Minutes (For At Least A Minute), So If You're Unlucky You Have To Wait Before Knowing Which Gate To Go To
Does any business just pay the cost of doing their damn business anymore or does everyone put ads on everything???
Even better . . . When we flew from the US to Tenerife we had to change planes in Spain, but it’s still an international flight, so international luggage rules applied. When flying home, you have to make the same stop. BUT, Tenerife is a Spanish possession, so that leg of the flight was NOT considered an international flight, so the luggage allowance is lower. Without paying excess luggage fees, you can’t go home with the same stuff you brought with you. BONUS: If your flight is early enough, the desk where you might pay those extra fees isn’t open, yet. We were straight up given the choice of leaving stuff behind, or missing our flights home. I trust our SCUBA BCDs found a good home after we left. 🤬 (Other than that, it was a fantastic trip that included some truly magical moments.)
That's horrific, I'm so sorry. But you should tell us what the magical moments were!

F**k You Vegas
It is illegal in America if they DON'T refund them, I believe.
Load More Replies...Not only Vegas. MAGIX, the parent company, is known for this kind of things and many other that are borderline scams (you decide which side of the borderline). In the past they have collected an impressive array of "bad moves": increased monthly subscriptions mid-contract, released updates that broke features, failed to bring user-paid content from one update to another, delaying unsubscribing on purpose, etc. Their software is riddled with major bugs, is unstable and often comes with pop-ups that self-install in the start bar or menu. Microtransactions everywhere. Once you subscribe, you get spammed with multiple daily emails about their other products and offers. I used to have music maker, but ditched it. I have seen computer virus that are less annoying than their software.
This a thousand times. The free version is already excellent, and if you want to get the Studio version (some AI related features are only available in the paid version), it's a one-time payment of $300, updates to new versions have been free in the past and that is not likely to change. $300 is like 6 months worth of subscription fees for Adobe Premiere + After Effects lol. Even if you get your Vegas Studio via Humble Bundle deals, you're likely to pay more for updates to keep it up to date. Davinci Resolve, y'all. It might look complex and intimidating at first, but there is tons of tutorials on Youtube for everything it's got to offer (+ a very comprehensive documentation you can download. (Reply is not sponsored by Blackmagic Design/Davinci Resolve I am just very convinced of the product). 😉
Load More Replies...Crooks - they're all crooks without souls or ethics or empathy or even a good business model - cuz how long can they operate like this before consumers simply refuse to work with them?
Licenses were not revoked. It seems that some tried to upgrade the Steam version through Magix, which didn't work. Some mentioned that you only "license" software, never own it, It still is yours to use for as long as you wish. Unless it is a subscription, virtually any court in the world has thrown out any claims that the license can be revoked. You own the license to use it.
You buy a LICENCE to use their software, you never own it. So says the small print!

This makes me scared to sign up for anything now. I had a b***h of a time deleting my account for Skillz. I thought I did delete it last year and then I got a disturbing email from them saying my account is inactive and that after 6 months of inactivity they'll start charging $4 a month for "maintenance fees" on my account. I had to redownload the app again, go to delete account but the only option was deactivate it, which isn't the same as deleting, and said I had to email Skillz to delete my account. So, I did that, telling them the situation. They had the gall to ask why I wanted to delete my account. I told them I don't want to play their games. I've deleted their app, again, and not planning on returning. It took a bit more back and forth. I had to cheque my accounts to make sure they weren't taking anything. Luckily they haven't. No way am I ever signing up for anything like that online again.
They wanna ‘force’ you to continue your subscription. Why is it even legal? Edit: There are many people who have trouble talking with strangers on the phone. Also introverts, anxiety and shy people may have trouble saying they wanna unsubscribe on the phone when the one on the other end try to force you to stay.
I know they just keep talking and talking until you just say yes to get them to stop
Crazy idea: Block payment. I've done this, and lo and behold it works!
Ugh!!!!! The New York Times also does this, and it is so f@#$%&*&^%$#ing frustrating! They make you call to cancel. Then when you call, there is a recorded message (no matter what time during the day or night you call) that says they are "experiencing a high call volume" and to leave a message so they can call you back. They never call. It took 2 months of angry emails/threats with legal action to cancel my NYT subscription 😤
I Love Ads On My £250 Console That I Continue To Pay £6 A Month To Play On
The only way to stamp this out is to stop buying the product, in this case the Xbox. There will always be a huge demand for these consoles though, which means, unfortunately, that the ads will proliferate. Pretty soon, everything we buy will be full of ads. Your toaster might advertise a brand of bread, your kettle; teabags or coffee, my microwave might advertise a gym after seeing the amount of junk that goes in there but you get my point, I guess. This is the future and I don't think we are going to like it much.
Incorrect. This continues to happen because governments around the world 30 years in continue to treat computers like wizards and trolls gatekeep the information. Canada for example has a robust truth in advertising law but it doesn't apply to most computer based stuff....because they have not updated it. Laws to stop most of this behaviour exist its just that tech companies argued successfully that they don't apply to them because they are different somehow....but government has been glacier like in successfully passing updates.... it's almost like companies that make millions of dollars a day might be the cause of that too

I Would Like To Thank Suave For Increasing The Size Of Their Bottle By -17%
With anything that says it's bigger, it has to say on the package compared to what, and that what has to have been an available product. That is legally required. If it doesn't or the compared package is bigger by weight then that is false advertising. Can guarantee that the label on the left bottle is not for comparison to the bottle on the right, but a smaller bottle by weight.
Except that won't fly in court. One may reasonably assume it was meant to be compared to the previous packaging. They just gamble on extra sales before some consumer organisation makes them change it.

Load More Replies...You people realize this ad isn't there while the show is playing.....that bottom bar is a navigation bar to quick select apps. The first box that says cbsn is sponsored. When you highlight it that big a*s pops up. If you highlight other apps the larger section will fill with content from that app. The "show' the ad is covering is the Netflix homepage. So we are bitching about a tiny block in a navigation bar, is that really the end of the world? Also the ad is for a TV station....on a tv
I'm not understanding the issue either. We have a Samsung TV, and the ads (which are not really ads per se but descriptions of the featured movies or shows on the streaming service or station you've"moused over") only come up when you press the button to bring up the apps on your "favorites" bar. Even then, they only "pop-up" like what happens when you are browsing shows on Netflix, as the previous poster mentioned. For clarification, the app bar is NOT always visible (at least on our tv). You actually have to push a button to bring it up.

Chipotle Goes All-Out Advertising That For The Next Week Delivery Is Free, And Then Casually Makes The Delivery Menu Priced Higher Than The Regular One
Reminds me of Pizza Pizza. Every now and then their site's online delivery ordering doesn't work. It just stays buffering or crashes when you want to pay. When you call in to report the issue (not order) they immediately start an order for you, and don't want to listen about their website. When you say you want the same deal with the online coupon they tell you it's only available on the website. I've refused making an order when that happens.

If this is recent, it makes sense. Think about all the water and land it takes to grow/raise plants and animals. It's not cheap and it's not easy. Can We All Agree Having To Pay For A Human Necessity Is A Major As**ole Design?
No, we can’t. The toilets are always kept clean, an attendant is always on duty and no-one is ever just hanging around in there doing god knows what. If the bogs are open, an employee is there somewhere. It’s also a lot safer - I’d rather use a paid toilet at the railway station late in the evening than anywhere else.
Public toilets in the UK (where this is) are funded by local councils using taxpayers money. This is just money grabbing. Plus if I need a sh*t and I've got no pocket change I'm not letting a bloody turnstile stop me 🤣
Load More Replies...Right so let me just s**t on everyone else's defense of the paid public loo. 1: They're usually filthy and out of toilet paper. I've seen poop on the walls and there's always some level of dirty stagnant water on the floor. Many of them are also blocked but not "out of order". If you want a clean toilet, you go to a café or supermarket, you're not getting that in a public loo. 2: If people want to cause you harm THEY WILL GET IN THERE. They are no safer. Whether it's climbing over the bars or just paying the cash they are going to get there. Don't kid yourself. 3: The mechanism breaks every so often. Either it eats the coins and refuses to move or refuses to take the coins at all. Too much faff. TLDR: You really think there's any cleaning staff and they're safe and easy to use? Lmao okay sure whatever you say. Using a toilet is a basic human need and the paid ones are just too flawed to be fair
I'm kinda torn on this. While I can certainly understand those who say it's bad I can see using this fee specifically for cleaning and maintenance and not burdening taxes (or whatever else) in general.
Not really, someone hás to clean and maintain that bathroom, and no One works for free.....
I used to live in Vienna. There were a few old (and surprisingly beautiful) public toilets in the touristy areas where you had to pay your 5 schillings and then be escorted by the Toilet Custodian who would lock you in your cubicle. The were openable from the inside but still... that was a culture shock to me although my mum remembers a few places like that in Liverpool in the 1940s
2k19 Is A Retail 60$ Game. They Put Non Skippable Ads In From Another Company
Get used to it. It's taken them this long to realise they can advertise in games, but now the floodgates will open.

Honestly, i hate iphones, i usually buy samsung i have a 4 yr.o Samsung Gslaxy A5 2017 and it works perfectly fine.
Yep. I'm still using my 4 year old Galaxy S9. Pretty much only issue I ever have with it is storage space, even though it's 64g and I have a 64g SD as well. But honestly that's on me because I have an inordinate amount of photos and videos saved! I did, however, just discover that as of April 2022 Samsung no longer provides regular security updates for the S9.

They did eventually fix that once everybody told them how stupid it was to require an account for a game that came out in the '90s
They Took Away The In-Store Signage To Force You To Download Their App
Um...no. I despise Walmart, but this isn't even remotely true. The circled area highlighting the missing price tags is an overstock area. You can clearly see the price tags on all the other shelves. That...and this photo was posted on Reddit 2 years ago.
I think they took away the signs that say "games" and "cards". That Kind of thing.
Load More Replies...While there are still signs, they are still pushing the app. Local Walmart took out all price checkers to either have you use app or abandon it at the register. That location also refuses Apple Pay, because again "you have to use our app."
wait until we all have augmented reality glasses (like the future Apple one): all these ads, app, .... pure happiness /s
So...don't buy it. What are they going to do, send stormtroopers round to glue Apple Glass to your face?

I got banned for a day last week, I backtracked my comments and I hadn’t written anything polarizing or remotely vulgar/offensive etc. i still for the life of me can’t figure out why I was banned and I tried to ask BP for clarification but zilch

Bad sirs, you sit on a throne of lies. Thirty percent more lies, to be exact.
Can we add Amazon delivery times to the list? (or did I miss it?) So many times I see "Buy within the next 3 hours to receive it TODAY" So i buy it as i really need it quick only to see. . "Estimated delivery time: TOMORROW". . . Why Amazon? WHY?
The main problem is that it isn’t sustainable to expect people who are poorly paid and poorly treated to bring you whatever you want on the same day you order it.
