Border Collie ejected from car during Sunday crash found on sheep farm, herding sheep.
He has one job and he damn well knows how to do it. What a good boi
I have an Australian Shepard who is afraid of my sheep.
Load More Replies...Long story short, I lived in a very very rural area and a border collie showed up in my yard. Couldn't find the owner, nicest dog you've ever met, had heartworms and tumors riddling one leg. Pretty sure his family dumped him in the country cause they couldn't afford the vet bills. Sad but good news for the dog. A friend with disposable income fell in love with him and Rocky (he would dance on his hind legs to.musicals so we called him Rocky) got the thousands of dollars of surgeries and lived out the rest of his natural life! Don't dump your dogs but sometimes there is a happy ending
The vet said the 6 month old kitty we found on our porch had marks common on animals thrown out of a MOVING car. Already dumping animals is awful, do people really have to make it worse?!?!
Load More Replies...Spoiler alert: He caused the accident on purpose so he could go live his dream life.
Dog: I herded 100 sheep, boss! Man: But I only have 98. Dog: Yep. I rounded them up.
My friend's Aussie herds her children, and checked on all of us when we did a sleepover at her house one weekend. He went from bed to bed making sure everyone was in place before he went to his bed.

An 83-year-old widow was left penniless because her husband only wanted to pass wealth down the male line. A UK court has just awarded her 50% of the full estate.
Yeah because the only thing your female line did was birth the male line, right.
So she had to go to court - meaning her son didn't want to share - 6utth0le!
Why should the widow even have to go to court? It should be a given that she receive at least half. As for the son, there is a word to describe him and his lack of action for his mother...
On the other hand, we don't know their situation, so we have no way of knowing whether she was a wonderful mother who totally got screwed over, or a super abusive mother/stepmother and that he had good reason to not wanna share with her.
Load More Replies...Doesn't the UK have similar laws to the rest of Europe? In Spain, and in a lot of European countries, the biggest part of your estate has "compulsory heirs", that is, your spouse and children *always* inherit. There's only a part (perhaps 20%) of your property you can give away freely to whoever yo want. You can only disinherit your wife or children in very few cases, for example if they tried to kill you, battered you and the like. I thought the UK was similar. I don't know if the explanation is clear. I don't really know a lot of legal terms in English.
In the UK you can leave your property to who you like in a will and legally you don't have to leave it to your spouse or children. You can leave the whole lot to charity if you want. However the courts can decide to ignore the will if it is unfair such as if there are young children who will be left with nothing. If a person dies without a will then it will go to the nearest next of kin so spouses, then children, then parents, then siblings etc. It has to be a spouse as well. Cohabitees have no automatic entitlement to their partners property if the partner dies intestate (without a will).
Load More Replies...If they had only 1 child, then this is quite normal. At least in my country. 2 heirs split 50/50
Load More Replies...This is extra super misogyny because even cultures that pass wealth down the male line allow for something to take care of the females.
New state law prevents animal abuse offenders from owning pets.
It's disgusting that this is celebrated as something wonderful and new, this should be the base??
A great change is a great change, regardless of whether it's way overdue. I think it's awesome that the right thing to do is finally put into law.
Load More Replies...Shouldn't that be a given? You screw up? You don't get nice things.
Should be, but this is earth and we don't always behave as we should.
Load More Replies...A no-brainer! Unfortunately the mindset is often to return the children to the parents, regardless of their history of abuse!

Ohio voters enshrine abortion access in constitution in latest statewide win for reproductive rights.
I live in Ohio. Huge success in obtaining signatures to get it on the ballot. Huge voter turn out and success on getting it passed. I'm so proud of our state!
And in response fasci... I mean Republicans, are trying to change the law so that only they can interpret what the new ammendment means and how it is enforced.
Trying to block the judiciary because the amendment verbiage is too “ambiguous” or some such nonsense. Basically gotta gerrymander the hell out of the state to ensure republican wins, and now gotta subvert the will of the people by pulling this c**p. I think we can call them much worse than fascists now….
Load More Replies...The fact that a state that overwhelmingly voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020 really says something about the need for Republicans to stop banning abortion.
except the fight is not over. the dumbass republicans wont follow the law and are trying everything underhanded to fight what the citizens and their constituents voted for. https://apnews.com/article/ohio-abortion-overthrow-judicial-powers-77a68c1e6ee6fc79462f6aaf4ea1a323 i am not registered as a democrat but I really hate the republicans more and more every year. they truly dont care about the country.
well, since they also legalized recreational marijuana I guarantee that some of them are higher right now.

Abandoned dog seen wandering Detroit streets with stuffed toy rescued, now receiving care.
Years ago we had what the media dubbed as the the Ninja Cow roaming in our area. The cow would be sighted and then disappear before animal control or local farmers arrived. This went on for months before she showed back up to the farm from where she came.
Here's a report on it: https://www.thedodo.com/daily-dodo/grieving-stray-dog-refuses-to-let-go-of-her-favorite-stuffed-toy
People make me furious sometimes. And then there are others that go out of their way to save this pup.

Utah legislature unanimously passes ban on LGBTQ conversion therapy.
👍 How could anyone think that it's a choice? Good for Utah! Let the rest of the states follow, if any left?
It is surprising that Utah, of all states, does this, but it seems when it comes to religious worldviews, the baton of extremism was succesfully passed on to the evangelicals... Apparently the mormons are not as "conservative" as their reputation. A very well needed signal just a few months after the SCOTUS decided that discrimination of LGBTQ people is protected by the constitution... (https://www.reuters.com/legal/us-supreme-court-rule-web-designer-with-anti-gay-marriage-stance-2023-06-30/)
F**k yeah! As a resident of Utah, this makes me very happy.
I'm hoping it will be seen with the same horror and revulsion that labotomies are now seen as. Conversion therapy is a truly deviant act set up by the worst of religious people (those that don't actually follow the lessons set up by their god).
Carmakers like VW are bringing back buttons because drivers loathe all the touch screens.
Trying to change channel, turning up/down sound, AC and so on with a touchscreen is just ridiculous. You do this while driving. If you can't be on your phone because it's a driving hazard, is it safer to stop looking on the road to change these things on a screen. With a button you can keep your eyes on the road. Removing buttons presents a whole new danger on our roads.
Yes, I used to be able to change the radio station by feel while still looking at the road. Now I have to look at a screen, which takes my eyes off the road. So unnecessarily unsafe!

My wife's car has a touch screen but physical HVAC controls. Practically all of the primary functions can be done via the buttons on the steering wheel (volume, skipping tracks when playing music, cycle radio stations etc) It is not often we have to actually use the screen unless we use Car Play for sat nav in which case we put in the destination before moving or use the voice assistant. There has been a few times now when driving in the dark where I have switched the screen off as it was hurting my eyes a bit. I also set my CarPlay background to be just black as the standard wallpapers are distracting.
I drove a Beetle 17 years. The only car I ever had that made me happy just looking at it.
I drove a 2001 yellow Beetle for ten years until the transmission started slipping. Up to the end, people would stop me in parking lots and ask to look inside, wondered if it still made the same ear-popping sound with windows slightly open (yes!), and did the flower in the vase really come with the car (yes!). It was kind of like driving a brand new car every day,.
Load More Replies...Aren’t we supposed to not look at our screens while we’re driving? And now all of the cars are being made with screens?
Hallelujah!!!!! Screens are a backwards step for both ergonomics and safety.

Honestly, fireworks are so bad for the environment anyways. I’m sure all the pets who live nearby were happy! And the fish who eat the garbage from the fireworks thinking it’s food.

Load More Replies...In the late '70's, I read a story in Reader's Digest about a little girl with leukemia. There was a ward of children with it at the hospital she went to. All the other children were going to die. The girl the story was about (written by her mom) was going dead due to some complications. The girl loved music. The dying children went to one of the nurses, and wanted to put on a concert for their friend. One child couldn't speak, as he had cancer in his throat. So the nurses taught him to read music. He was the pianist's page-turner. The mom (author) wrote how that was the greatest gift her daughter ever received. And yes, at the end of the story, the other children had passed. 45 years later, it still makes me teary. It's a wonderful thing that so many more people with leukemia survive. It's amazing to me, what we've learned to fight disease.
And this too I will never hear anything about ever again, this is always the case with promising medicines

Sigh. Which plastic? Some plastics are already edible by humans. Let me guess, it eats plastics used in human clothing? Just what we want, mouldy clothes.

Nobel Prize goes to scientists behind mRNA Covid vaccines.
So they should. Creating a vaccine in less than a year for a new, undiscovered disease? That is an awesome feat that needs to be recognised.
They had a very strong base built already from SARS in the early 2000s, since COVID-19 is a SARS virus. Which is NOT to imply in any way that these scientists don't deserve the prize! Knowing that this is built off of existing vaccine research is important; it helped some people I know decide to get the vaccine (yay!) because they weren't worried it was rushed through. (To note I'd have gotten it either way - but being able to demonstrate to some people that it wasn't brand new helped them)

OnlyFans star earning £100k a month starts 'affordable housing scheme' for UK families.
Wow, a decent landlord: - The 28-year-old from Derbyshire wrote: "The ball is now rolling with my ‘affordable housing scheme’. My plan is to buy 8 properties outright and rent them out to low-income families. "One house I’ll be renting out is a 3 storey, 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom house with off road parking for 2 cars, fully furnished, £650 a month!" When somebody quizzed her about the plans, Rebecca replied: "I make enough profit on OnlyFans, I have no mortgages so rent payments are 100% profit except maintenance and insurance, this is a side hustle that my kids can inherit. Meta is now banned from using personal data for advertising in the EU.
Was that so hard? All governments should be banning this predatory behaviour world wide.

being banned from using and actually not using are 2 separate things. congrats on the first, good luck with the second
This is partially correct: if you want to continue using Facebook you can either accept their policy about the use of your personal data, or pay a monthly fee (here in Spain, my Facebook offered me a subscription for 9.99€ PER MONTH).
Nope. You can pay to remove ads but this has nothing to do with your personal data. If you don’t pay and consent, you’ll get targeted ads, if you don’t consent they won’t be able to use your data.
Load More Replies...It's 2023. Who still uses Meta/Facebook? 😅 I'm in my 30s just FYI. Don't downvote me please 🙂
Almost every single app you use connects to meta/ facebook. Almost every webpage you open connects to it via the Luke button. Plus they use their adds.Meta / facebook doesnt care if you have an account or not, unless you block their cookies and these connections, they track your every move and optimize adds for you!
Load More Replies...No they aren't. They're banned from using it without expressly informing you that they're doing so, which at this point shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Instead, they now give you the option to either pay 10 euros a month, for facebook, or agree to continue using the ad based trashheap that it's always been. How many people, outside of those with business pages, are going to pay for facebook. Honestly. It's the appearance of change, nothing more.
So now you will be bombarded with advertisements for merchandise you don't want instead of things you might possibly buy.

US Farmers win right to repair John Deere equipment.
Backstory. For years, cell phone companies have sucessfully fought " right to repair " laws. They argued that trade secrets would be stolen. Then John Deers started putting chips in tractors. And they told the farmers only authorised John Deere technitians could work on them. Only problem was thrre wasnt enough techs and farmers were on waiting lists for weeks. Well, dometimes waiting a day to harvest can cause issues. So the farmers sued. And won. Courts were willing to make you wait for your phone, but not eff with the food supply. This has set s precident and right-to-repair is coming for all sorts of electronics.
Also screws with all the companies who use "Planned Obsolescence" as a money making tool.
Load More Replies...As a side note to this - not having the right to repair is why the ice cream machines were continually not working at McDonalds. Now that McDonalds has the right to repair outside of the service contract (replace filters, o-rings, adjust hoses, etc.) their rate for having working ice cream machines is up something like 95% in the US.
The machines never worked because they refused to pay the company the contract they were supposed to and so that company withheld info needed to fix them. Was a super easy part to replace. McD's was just greedy. Surprise surprise!

A hero is my nephew's step-brother who jumped in a river to save a drowning kid, even though step-brother didn't know how to swim and was afraid of water. 19yo step-brother died after saving the kid. That's a hero.

Companies can no longer silence laid-off employees in exchange for severance.
Talk about restraining free speech! The fact that they got away with it for so long is outrageous. Be careful about whom you vote for, people!
Definitely not the US. I just got fired a week ago and the clause of not disparaging the company was written into my severance agreement.
Same here, Trebek. I was laid off in January and there was a non-disparagement clause in my severance agreement (which I had them change to a mutual non-disparagement, but one of the CAOs violated that part anyway)

That’s true, but using your severance pay as a hostage to force you to sign away your right to sue for unlawful termination is outrageous and never should have been tolerated at all, let alone for 30+ years. I wish they'd had this when I was a kid. On a Girl Scout camping trip, the Troupe Leader whose car I was in on the long drive to the campsite (one of the other girls' moms--my mom wasn't a Leader) would open her window a tiny bit and smoke a cigarette, like every 20 minutes. I kept asking her to stop because I couldn't breathe, and she would say, "Are you allergic? Do you have asthma? No? Then no." 😭
In Europe most people banned themselves from smoking in vehicles or homes with children.
In Bulgaria (Europe) many of the parents are still not using booster seats or proper seats for babies/kids in the car. Not a small percentage are not even using seatbelts for their children. And I've never heard any smoker around me say they stopped smoking at home/in the car with children. It's really common to see mothers with babies or small children, smoking wherever they are with the kids. Not good to wait on the personal decision for that.

I am happy for it to be legalised, but agree, there need to be conditions, such as not driving while impaired (it is already a limit here as far as I'm aware). I don't think it should be smoked at all, for the same reason that it can't be contained to the one person using it, as well as the fact any type of smoke anyone introduces to their own body can have harmful effects. It literally makes me sick to the stomach and gives me the runs too!

Taylor Swift gives bonuses totaling over $55 million to every person working on a massive Eras tour.
I know I'm gonna get downvoted into oblivion but Taylor Swift is also apparently a billionaire now and I just don't believe there's a thing called "ethical billionare". To me this remains an oxymoron. I'm not saying she's a terrible person who's never done anything right (such as these bonuses), I'm just saying - nobody needs a billion dollars. Not a single person ever for themselves. And noone makes that in their lifetime without other people being exploited (even if indirectly) along the way. And yes - I absolutely see the same isses with all the Musks, Bezozes and all those weirdos.
Ok, at the risk of down votes, I'm gonna add some context here because it's not as simple as "nobody needs a billion dollars". The nuance here is that when we say Jeff Bezos has a net worth of $161 billion dollars, it's not that he has $161 billion sitting in a bank account somewhere. Almost all of that "net worth" is based on the shares of Amazon (and other companies) that he owns. It's really that Amazon the company is "worth" hundreds of billions of dollars, and one guy happens to own 10% of the company. And even talking about how much money a company is worth is not really meaningful since it's not tied to revenue or profits at all. The value of a company is based on how much people are willing to pay for that company's stock. Now that being said, I'm actually a big believer in replacing our income tax system with a wealth tax system.

Prisoners aren't allowed cell phones, and have to reverse charges on the prison provided pay phone, which can charge whatever the state allows. The FCC attempted to cap it at 25c per min in 2013, but prison telecommunications challenged it, and won due to Trump not fighting it in court. Without the cap the average cost of a 15 min call was $17. More than twice the minimum hourly wage. Now the cap is law. It's still not cheap, at 25c a minute, but it's better than it was.

The FTC wants to ban companies from telling their employees they can't work for competitors — and says it'll help workers make $300 billion more a year.
Good news, the US are slowly adopting every single European law. Here a non compete agreement is legal but must be accepted by both parties, not last more than 1 (exceptionally 2) years and the most important part, be paid. That means that even after someone leaves a company, he’ll still get paid (not a full wage) as long as they want him away from the competition.

Michigan just passed one of the country’s most ambitious clean energy bills | The state’s legislature passed bills that aim to accelerate the energy transition — including a mandate for 100% carbon-free power by 2040.
Let’s go! Sadly a lot of these aims are based around nonexistent technology, so there needs to be massive amounts of R&D to reach that goal.
Hydro power and nuclear power are carbon free. technology already exists. Wind and solar power are also carbon free, but are unreliable at best (wind) and unavailable for certain periods (solar). Nuclear power is the best option technology wise, sadly, many people are afraid of the technology. On the other hand many people push for more solar and wind power, which are crappy at best from the viewpoint of power distribution operators.

Good news but, let's clarify. There's no such thing as carbon-free power, especially when we're still getting to grips with the short lifespan of wind turbines, solar panels and how we can effectively recycle them.
Good luck with that. I lived for 20 years in the Upper Peninsula, where there's 9 months of winter and three months of road repair. Not enough sun for solar; no wind farms.

Covid screwed the numbers completely, but prior to that Chinese accounted for around 80,000, Indians 98,000, NZ and UK about 55,000.
