There is a certain group of celebrities who are above average in their personal lives, living ethical lives, doing good things for those less fortunate, and just being moral people. It would crush me if any of them ended up on TMZ.
Fearless Beyond Expression
I’ve seen the story circulating on the Internet at least three or four times now. I still find myself amazed that he thought so quickly and was successful in saving her when fleeing would’ve been understandable so he didn’t get hurt, too!
I'd like to know the circumstances. Desperation can do things to people. I know of people (not personally) who have robbed a bank because their daughter needed medical care. Good people can do bad things if pushed far enough, but preventing a kidnapping and all the potential consequences of that outweighs any armed robbery in my book.

This is, again, not a feel-good story. It's a sign of how royally F-worded-up our world is. In any decent civilized country, this would not be allowed to happen in the first place and there would be no need for this kind of heroism.
Because care homes are business, and the people they employ are usually close to the edge of poverty themselves.

These two heroes need celebrating. But you can just leave 19 ppl to die like that? What new legislation is needed for this evil that is obvious to anyone with common sense? I looked into it and i have some good news! This is why to me the lawyer who prosecute these kind of offender are also heroes to me. (I dunno what they are called prosecuters?) "California Attorney General Kamala Harris announced the indictment of Valley Springs Manor owner Herminigilda Noveda Manuel and administrator Edgar Babael on 14 felony counts of elder abuse. Authorities say the pair left residents in the care of only a janitor and a cook for several days after the state abruptly shut down the facility in October 2013." Private Equity Firms in the US own numerous nursing homes. Expect much more of this if we do not work for and demand extreme, immediate changes. Same for numerous hospitals and/or emergency rooms. We are in an extreme crisis that is/will only get worse and nobody is doing a god damn thing! I'll end me before I would ever go to a nursing home - they are horror, s**t shows.
I truly hope their community and the residents family rewarded these compassionate men. The owner of this care home should be exposed for their calus treatment of the people who were entrusted in the company's care.

This was back in 2014 when health advocates compelled the fast-food giant to enhance the nutritional quality of its menu items. The idea was to introduce healthy eating to children through this innovative Happy Meal addition.

This Father With Down Syndrome Raised A Son That Is Now A Doctor
During our census, I had a client come in with her daughter who had Down syndrome. Normally, children were not allowed to self-report; however, I took the time, and with help from mom and I, the girl filled out her own report. She was one of the most confident, assertive and polite clients I had. Coming from a culture that can be very dismissive towards both women and disabled people, it warmed my heart to see this young lady thrive.
Down syndrome appears to cause problems with sperm creation in men and premature menopause in women. From a quick Google, there have been three attested cases of men with Down syndrome fathering a child. For women, there's a reduced rate of fertility, and a significantly shorter window of fertility.

You Daily Dose Of A Goodboy!
Just read an article about a dog who sat in the middle of the road to get attention for his elderly owner who had fallen in the yard.
Similar situation. Was riding on the local bike trail, saw a kid, about 2 yrs old toddling down the trail, yellow lab alongside. I stopped and didn't want to approach and elicit a protective streak from Fido. Looked around and saw a mother frantically running around her house across the road (10 meter barrier between road and trail). Yelled to get her attention, she came over, relieved, and thanked me. I suggested Fido get an extra treat today. In her frantic state it finally dawned on her that her child was as safe as safe could be.
All dementia patients should have a dog like this. May need someone to help care for the dog, but wonders can be achieved!
Since 2011, the pope has been ineligible to donate his organs. According to Vatican officials, the pope’s body “belongs to the entire church” and must remain intact when buried. Others argue that the recipient may risk becoming an object of veneration, especially when the pope who passed on becomes a saint.
Until 1903, the Vatican in Rome removed the organs of a pope who had recently passed on and turned them into relics for the church.
Anti-Poachers Takes Selfie With Gorillas They Are Protecting
Gorillas pose for selfie with DR Congo anti-poaching unit 22 April 2019 Ranger Mathieu Shamavu Gorillas posing for selfie in Virunga National Park, DR CongoRanger Mathieu Shamavu. The gorillas are apparently trying to imitate humans Two gorillas have been photographed posing for a relaxed selfie with the rangers who rescued them as babies. The image was taken at a gorilla orphanage in Virunga National Park, DR Congo, where the animals were raised after poachers killed their parents. The park's deputy director told BBC Newsday that they had learned to imitate their carers, who have looked after them since they were found. The gorillas, he added, think of the rangers as their parents. Innocent Mburanumwe, deputy director of Virunga, told the BBC the gorillas' mothers were both killed in July 2007. The gorillas were just two and four months old at the time. Shortly afterwards, they were found and taken to Senkwekwe Sanctuary in Virunga, where they have lived ever since.
It appears that the gorillas imitate humans very well, as the ones in the photo are standing quite erect

A couple of weeks ago a dog showed up at a friend's place of work. The dog, a mere puppy, looked like this and also had cigarette burns all over and a giant hole burnt in each ear. He was relinquished to a rescue- the next day his sister showed up at the same location. She did not have the burns but was starved as well. I have parrots and I truly do not think it is wise for me to adopt a dog like that but I keep on thinking about it. What do you guys think? I could post pictures of this dog but I do not want to add , it is so sad.

I remember back in the '70s, I briefly worked in a local vegetarian restaurant in San Francisco. The owner's policy was to give food to someone who couldn't pay for it, but he would ask the person to wash dishes or clean the floor for 1/2 hour if they were able. They ate at a table and he would give them a to-go bag. He also allowed employees to take home unsold food.

Maybe the Islamic regime should be banned. I pray one day all of them will be gone and Iran will be the great nation it once was and not strangled to death by a religion that treats women like garbage.

I'd love to but am a bit pessimistic as religion-free states haven't been the most peaceful over the past centuries....:(
Load More Replies...It is not the religion that treats women like garbage; it is the men interpreting that religion.
The Hijab is not a religious requirement. It's simply a cultural hangover and used to control women in some countries. Men need to stop policing women's clothing. Likewise, here in the west, we need to stop policing women's clothing and allow women to wear the Hijab if they choose to. It's not about what you wear, it's about the freedom to choose..
We don't need to do anything. I dress modestly and won't do topless when visiting my family in an Islamic country, and don't expect civil servants & students to wear hijab (or the full burqa) in my home country as it's forbidden by law. People do need to stop trying to make the world a universal McDonald's, local traditions, principles and laws are to be respected. If people are unhappy with them, they can stay where they are. Leave it to the locals to determine what they want, and fight for it.

Yeah except it was also dogs who were attacking the kids it shows the duality of everything.
Load More Replies...From Wikipedia: "The Sydney Morning Herald and The New Zealand Herald reported that on 29 April 2007, five children in Manaia were walking home when they were attacked by two pit bulls. Nine-year-old (born 1997 or 1998) George defended the children, but was severely injured by the melee. Gay's veterinarian recommended euthanising George, and while Gay reluctantly agreed with the course of action, he later came to regret the decision. The pit bulls were also euthanised, and their owner "[faced] prosecution for owning dangerous and uncontrolled dogs." Six months later, the Stratford Press reported that it had been one pit bull versus a 14-year-old George protecting three children. In February 2009, Sky News reported that George had been 14 years old when he faced off two pit bulls to defend five children aged 3–12."
But dogs were the perpetrators too. Not to take anything away from what that dog did. But the caption doesn't fit.
Animals will be animals. You can't fault them for being animals. Where were the people who owned them, and why weren't they on leashes? Or did those dogs just get dumped by stupid people?

Shaq Ditched Reebok, Sold 400 Million Affordable Shoes With Walmart
Shaq is a great man. Super interesting guy, used to get deputized in every city he played, so he could help the communities that surrounded the arenas.
I used to live in a town in GA where Shaq had purchased a home. He would frequent our fav and popular old Southern downtown breakfast place and pay for everyone's meal. I was never there when he was but he made the local paper a few times for it.
I'm not into basketball, but I know all about Shaq and how wonderful he is. One woman was able to convince him to do better, so he did.
It's really ridiculous how expensive "high-quality" shoes are, especially for kids who will outgrow them in a few months.
It seems he has all the money he'll ever need and now wants to give back. Well done!
While this is admirable, it makes me wonder if it didn't just transfer the problem further down the food chain. Cheap retail price usually requires cheap production costs, and that typically translates to poor working conditions and non-existent wages for the workers in a developing country.
BNig companies like Reebok and Nike have made the news for paying third-world workers a few dollars for every $100+ pair of shoes they sell. It's not just production costs that's the problem, it's greed.

These Two Beauties Had Been Barn Mates But Were Separated For A Few Months. This Is Was What Happened When They Saw Each Other At The Horse Park After Their Long Absence From Each Other
I actually have a similar-ish picture of my horse and his best friend after mine had been kept in his stable for months with laminitis. When I let him back into the field for the first time, with the intention of just giving him 20 minutes out there to start with, he spent the entire time grooming with his bestie and didn't eat a single blade of grass.
That is beautiful. And a little sad for me as my wife lost a horse who couldn’t recover from laminitis just a couple of years ago. I’m so happy for you.

Horses and many herd animals form very tight friendships. They will recognize loved ones after many years apart. It is always nice to let them have over-the-door visits as often as possible. It is just like getting a phone call or a hospital visitor.

Load More Replies...If that's an LVAD, if the power goes out and/or the batteries aren't charged, the person will unfortunately die. My uncle had one of these when they first came out. He wore it for over two years but sadly passed before getting a donor heart. Those things are amazing and frightening all at the same time.
That was one of my main complaints to OVA Energy when we were having numerous power cuts here, that and they actually cut me off once because I was on Pre-pay, always have been and they put me on Pay Monthly without my consent. I'm disabled and I pointed out that there are other people who are absolutely reliant on having a reliable power supply for necessary medical equipment. If I fall in the dark? I could end up back in the hospital for months. It's... The sheer amount of people/companies who assume that everyone is able bodied is staggering.

I finally got registered and received my card a few years ago. I made sure it was in an obvious place in my wallet and my family all knew. The Guy Deserves Respect
It always makes me wonder why we can find the willpower to do hard things for people we love far more easily than for ourselves…
That's one of the very odd quirks of humanity; most of us have more empathy for others than we do for ourselves. Perhaps it's because we aren't very good at introspection, and when we look at ourselves all we see are the flaws. Which is also probably why arseholes and stupid people aren't very introspective; they literally can't face their own flaws and only project them on others.

If There's A Wheel, There's A Way
To the negative comments? These types of bikes are not covered by the NHS in the UK. They're also very expensive. I don't have a spare £5-10,000 laying around for one. If he can build it himself? It gets checked out and is safe? More power to him! 💜💜💜
I don't think it would be covered in Australia either. If it is, the waiting list could be too long so quicker to build one. I know there are lots of people here who use things they have adapted while on the list for other aids. My little brother was using my older brother's wheelchair, which was too big, while waiting for his first one. We also used a mountain buggy (three wheeled pram) for him anytime we went somewhere off roads because the wheelchair wheels were too skinny. It made me a little sad that a child over the age of 5 was still using a pram, but it was better than what was available at the time. I haven't seen bike adaptions like the one shown before but it's a great idea for people larger than a small child. My brother used a bike trailer but it was getting more and more cramped before he died at 9. I don't know where we got it, but I don't think it was funded either.

2 Teens Won $50,000 For Inventing A Device That Can Filter Toxic Microplastics From Water
And the patent was promptly bought and never heard from again... (ultrasound removal of microplastics in water)
Worse, the competition or school they won in has a caveat that all intellectual property belongs to them, not the inventor, they make 100s of millions and the teen inventors get zilch
Load More Replies...The application is very interesting, it uses ultrasound to push plastic particles away from the water flowing into a small tube. That said, it has important intrinsic limitations, the biggest being that it is suitable only for small volumes at low flow speed, and it doesn't scale up efficiently. At the current stage, it also doesn't deal with the disposal of saturated water: the process impedes passage to particles, but leave them floating upstream the water flow, building up their concentration. It's an amazing result for a school project, but far from a real-life application and as a research it's not entirely original; there are papers dating back 20 years with the same concept, except that those used ultrasound paired with physical filters. This concept does away with the filters, but the filters were in place to achieve meaningful volumetric filtration, so....

This is pretty clever as we know what Amazon they are reffering to but by formulating it as a negation, I bet Amazon company can't do anything against it. Because if they're like "Hey we're suing you" they could just go "Why do you assume we mean your company".
I get so fed up with people just blindly hating on Amazon. Yes, there's a need for better work conditions but at the same time? What about people who are housebound? Disabled? Not everyone can "just go to the shops". It IS a global company so a successful boycott would put hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people out of work, they'd lose their jobs. Braaavo... Small things like this make such a big difference. I work at a library and many years ago, we had a particularly busy day and were just trying to keep up with all the new students pouring in. One of the people waiting in line looked at me compassionately and mentioned how busy it was. When he was done, he handed me a small card saying, "Have a good day." I always try to be friendly with customers even if it’s busy or if I have a bad day, and did so back then. Having someone acknowledge that meant so much to me. I still have that card and part of me hopes that maybe someday he‘ll stumble about a comment where I tell that story, and that he learns how much his gesture was and is valued.

Archaeologists believe that the mosaic once decorated the floor of a public building in the ancient city of Antioch, one of the most important cities of the Seleucid Empire.
Archaeologists collaborated with architects to preserve this ancient artifact during the construction of the hotel now part-time and museum.
The platform connected to the columns now hovers over the mosaic, and visitors will be able to see this masterpiece from above from special viewpoints.
