This photo is my CT scan. Biopsy surgery results were non-cancerous, thankfully. It’s been a real WTF month.

All my wisdom teeth are horizontal, but the one that is impacted somehow manages to hold my lower jaw nerve hostage between its crooked roots 😅. I must be one of few people that actually hopes that one of my other teeth would need to be removed - so that crooked, hostage taking piece of bone would have room to get upright😂

When my upper wisdom teeth were coming through, the dentist extracted the two teeth in front of the wisdom teeth, to make room. It worked perfectly well. I wish he'd been there to do the same for the lower ones.

Basically, this is the exact reason why my wisdom teeth had to be removed. I hated the dental brace waaaaaay too much to have those fúckers push my teeth crooked again.

When I worked in a NICU we had a baby with micrognathia (small, receding jaw) who needed her tongue drawn forward. The tongue was sewn to her bottom lip and secured, also, with a button at her chin. We nicknamed that sweet little one “baby Button”.

When I was a very young youngster, I fell and landed my left hand on a broken sugar bowl and cut all of the tendons. Dr. Bridges was able to reattach all of those and when I finally was abler to remove the bandage, there it was a button sewn into the middle of my palm. Plus I had the fingernails of a "Wolverine" for the first and only time of my life!!! All of my fingers and thumb worked properly except my middle finger. I could never touch the tip of it to my hand. Which made it very difficult to perform a bar chord on a guitar!!!!

I feel your pain. I had a large obstructing stone a few mos ago that also caused a bad infection. I went to the ER early on a Monday morning and had to have surgery for it. Kidney stones are the absolute worst pain I've ever had. I have a high pain tolerance so when I say pain level is 10, it's like 15-20 for other people. Kidney stones hurt when they move and the sucker in the pic did some damage on the way out.

I went kayaking as a fun work thing with my team. We went to a little island that was maybe a 20-30 min paddle off the beach, wandered around, then went back. They were all city folks and I was the only small towner who had been kayaking many times, so I figured I’d show them up. Nope. Guess whose hands blistered and burst open within minutes 😅 I’m softer than I thought I was hahaha, I made it to the island but there was no way I could paddle back, they had to tow me 😆😆

I had 90% of my stomach and about 70% of my intestines removed due to cancer. I was left with four scars about that size. They did it with a DaVinci robot. When they were done, it felt like I had done a bunch of sit ups and my stomach muscles were really sore. That is it. No severe pain, four tiny scars, zero cancer.

I have had similar surgery ... and a similar scar. It's no where near the heart. They go up the artery from my leg.

Laparoscopy is incredible. I've had two minor and one major surgery since 2019. Total of 7 scars. The largest has the diameter of a dime or thereabouts (I'd need the smallest banana I've ever seen for scale). The lack of scarring is impressive, but by FAR the best part is the decrease in recovery time.

They did laparoscopic surgery to remove my dead ovary, but when they pulled it out of the hole it was like a black sponge and shed dead blood into the abdominal cavity and I got an infection.

From the OP: I'm a little short sighted but not badly. I suffer from really bad light sensitivity (photophobia) and glare is a really struggle - look at simulations of astigmatism for what I'm like all the time. I find being outside too bight all year so wear dark glasses and a heat most times in outside. In another comment, they said that they can't drive because of this.

Nope, the black area is the pupil. The green-brown one is a malformed iris, this can happen both as a birth defect as well as by damage to the eye.

My father had this happen, but only to one finger. He was a chronic nail biter at the time. They had to take off the tip of his middle finger on his right hand. He came for a visit while he was healing and he showed it to me. I went from being a chronic nail biter to never biting my nails again in an instant.

Lol, was just about to comment that as well. Speaking as a radiology tech, seeing the jewelry still on was jarring. The only thing I could think of is that possibly the patient refused to remove the jewelry - it sounds like this patient has some type of mental health issues and/or OCD/obsession with their hands - so maybe that’s the reason why it was left on.

Long term Raynaud's sufferer here. The fingers go deathly white as above, then (sometimes) blue/purple, almost to the point of looking blue/black. When the circulation returns, they go pink again. Too many episodes will lead to ischemic ulcers, so keep your hands warm to protect them! See a rheumatologist if this is happening to you.

These are not freckles. This is a case of someone who produces moles which are different than freckles. Moles are raised and there is a genetic component to how many you may have. Freckles are flat areas which produce melanin in response to sun exposure; sort of like a spotted tan.

Pregnancy can also affect hair growth. Some hairdressers can tell someone is pregnant before they are showing, because of their hair change (if knew person before pregnancy). I was listening to a radio segment with my favourite scientist and he is always ready to admit when he doesn't know something. When someone asked why this happens, he had no idea (he knows a vast range of topics and can usually give some insight to most things) because he has, obviously, never been pregnant, nor has he much hair.

Its great that these comments are showing concern & care for this person and suggesting they see a doctor. But … the person with these nails is not the one who posted/added their pic to this board panda article. This picture is from a Reddit post & the board panda writers / editors took it from there & included it in this article. I don’t think the person with this condition is going to see your comments. Best to go to the original Reddit post & comment there. The link to the Reddit post is directly under the pic in small/gray font. Most (all?) the pics included in BP articles are ripped from Reddit, the pics are not posted here by the original person/people related to said pics.

    1. I hope there was a valid medical reason to take these x-ray photos. Gamma ray exposure is additive. 2. The "invisible connection" between the fingers and metacarpac bones are made of cartilage in children and becomes ossified (bone-ied) later in life. The X-ray of a hand can be used for age estimation.

I'm 75 and I still have one baby tooth. The adult tooth above it never formed and descended. I had to have a root canal through it, and the dentist said it was very dense, and dulled his drill. He was very excited and (with my permission) took pictures, as he'd never seen it before, but had heard about it in dental school.

In My Head, The Screws From My Spinal Fusion Surgery Looked A Lot Smaller

Terrible technique on that radiograph 😆 It's also pretty old (or from a less tech advanced country), not a digital x-ray. At least in vet med, a bone screw in the spine should not come out the other side of the bone- can't tell if that is happening here though due to poor xray technique (settings that made the bone barely visible). ETA- saw another similar image later in this post. Maybe this image technique wasn't poor and was intentional. Shrug. I'm just a silly dog and cat Dr with a little extra experience in neurosurg.

Its a corneal dermoid cyst. It contains normal tissues like fat and hair follicles, but in an abnormal location. It's usually harmless, but it can cause problems if it gets bigger and overlies the pupil because that could affect vision.

For me it looks like the hand, opposite side from the palm. The skin starts switching to the palm skin that does not have hair along the top edge, and right bottom corner shows the line of metacarpal bone that gets visible when manipulating fingers. The hair are tiny, only better visible with macro - at least it looks like this on my hand, men hands tend to have longer and thicker hair.

It's entirely possible for the fingertips to shed skin, just like any other body part. That being said, the layer is very thick and to me, it looks like it isn't happening entirely accidentally. More like OP picked on softened, wrinkly skin after bath/swimming, causing the thick top layer to break. Normally skin sheds more gradually, without this kind of visible edges. Continual picking on the loose skin can cause excessive separation of the layers and uneven growth. Meaning: the more you pick, pull and not let the skin come off naturally, in gradual way, the more this will happen in the future.

Similar thing can happen to me if I use cleaning products (like 409, even simple Lysol cleaning wipes though not this severe usually) without gloves and don't wash my hands quickly. This would require moderately prolonged contact with only the fingertips, plus picking at it several days later. My hands, especially cuticles, became very sensitive to cleaning products (not allergy, just drying out much easier than other people) a couple years ago, around 43ish. Su cks to wear gloves to hand wash 1 dish.

My hands and feet shed in the Spring and Fall, but not this thick/deep. It's maybe the first and second layer of skin. I've done this all my life, and though I've shown several Doctors, they say it's just dry skin. But, I don't shed like this anywhere else on my body, just my hands and feet.

I have them under my tongue. My dad had them under his tongue as well. They were affecting his speech so had them removed. Dental tori are benign, non-cancerous bony growths that can occur in the mouth. They are commonly found on the roof of the mouth (palatal tori) or under the tongue (mandibular tori). Tori are usually asymptomatic and don't require treatment unless they cause problems like difficulty chewing, speaking, or with dentures or mouthguards.

Not necessarily, I've seen cows kick when they were trying to get a fly off their flank. You learn to watch for the "quivering" skin, that's their first attempt to shake off a biting fly. If that doesn't work, all bets are off.

Yes, actually! I read a report a few months ago that scientists think our skin does this to make it easier for us to grip things underwater and to walk through water. Apparently it's nerves that activate this, not absorbing water as was originally thought.

One of the greatest mysteries which I've pondered during my life, is why the hēll teeth have nerves. Totally unnecessary, and unnecessarily painful when there's a problem.

    Anthony Elmore
    Community Member
6 months ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

From an evolutionary standpoint, there's a theory that teeth are actually remnants from our fish ancestors that had bumps on the outside of their bodies that were used to feel their atmosphere (The bumps were also made of dentin, the stuff that makes up your teeth). The pain could also serve as a deterrent to stop you from eating using a broken tooth and lessening the chance of a tooth infection spreading to the brain. That last bit's just speculation on my part, though.

Technically that isn't the white of the eye (sclera), it's an extension of the conjunctiva (bulbar conjunctiva). Conjunctiva loves to swell up. Usually it's very thin and transparent on the sclera so you don't really notice it is even there until it swells.

Idk if I believe this one. there doesn't look like a place they removed it from near their Lunula (the white part on your nail.) as there is no bleeding or anything, and if they pulled it from the edge of their nail bed it wouldn't have cause that.

That happened to me to! But mine was only a small piece of the needle. I had had a bump on the underside of my toe, the one next to my big toe, for as long as I could remember. Then one time I was walking around a friends house and it felt like something was poking me. My friend took tweezers to it and pulled it out. That was in 11th grade.
