At my workplace, it made management sort out there roster more than a couple of days in advance. We are all on a 24/7 shift work roster, and if they haven't worked out the roster for the new fortnight before I've worked my final shift for the current fortnight, technically they need to contact me "outside work hours" to notify me of shifts.
This is normal here in Finland. It's deemed offensive and weird if you were to demanded to react to work calls/emails etc outside of work hours. Only in emegencies, depending on the job, it's somewhat ok-ish to contact your workers or colleagues about work.

It was a hard 3 years, but we're so thankful he survived long enough to get a new heart.
Some days, I find myself missing childhood for many reasons. If I could go back to not having a care in the world, not having to pay my own bills or do my own grocery shopping and getting to live within close proximity to all of my friends, I would seriously consider giving up the freedom that adulthood has granted me. But another thing that I hugely took for granted from childhood was my education.
Learning was a drag when I was forced to attend classes every single day, but the wonderful part of being in school is that you’re constantly learning new things. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every single day, I was bombarded with information. And sometimes I miss the experience of being exposed to so much knowledge without having to seek it out on my own.

There is something magical about learning new things every day. And although it takes a bit of effort as an adult, it can certainly be worth it. According to The Goodlife Centre, making sure that you learn something new every day can enhance your quality of life. Acquiring new information can be very satisfying, and it can give your mood a huge boost to realize that you know things now that you wouldn’t have known a few weeks or months ago.
Taking time to learn new things can also reduce your stress. If you spend the entire day worrying about how much work you have to do, how much money you’re going to spend on groceries this week or what responsibilities you have coming up, it can feel great to slow down and focus your mind on learning for a moment. You have to put everything else aside and relax to be able to soak up new information.

I question this one. There might be several hours where people are less than 100% productive, but I doubt it is five hours of 0% productivity.
It is clear that an office worker is not productive for 8 hours, but not even 3 hours? I would really like to have the source for this, because I can't imagine it.

Learning new things can also be a great way to boost your confidence. The more you learn, the more you’ll realize how capable you are of expanding your knowledge. And that feeling can be so exciting and empowering. Once you get started learning, you’ll want to seek out more and more information. Plus, knowledge is power, The Goodlife Centre notes. There’s no better feeling than going into a situation or conversation knowing exactly what you’re talking about. You can use that knowledge to solve problems without needing help or help others!

After some research, the only place that organism was ever found was in the anuses of geese. Who says the universe does not have a sense of humor
This kind of thinking is the problem. The Earth needs us to heal. We are in the middle of a species apocalypse and loss of biodiversity, but just as long as humans are around "Earth is healing itself". This kind of thinking removes accountability.

That is a ridiculous claim. 47% of them have not yet reached the legal drinking age! And the youngest ones are only 14 years old!

Making time for learning can also be beneficial for your mental health. Most of us don’t get to experience a sense of accomplishment very often, but it’s a wonderful thing. If you set goals for yourself, you’ll feel amazing once you complete them.
And, of course, the more you know, the better you’ll be at socializing. Have you ever met someone that you just didn’t have anything in common with, so you weren’t sure what to talk about? If you make a point to learn about a wide range of topics, you’ll find connecting with others becomes much easier!

Pay about 0.88 euros per year, say 3 daily prayers for the Fugger family that owns it, and work part-time in the community. These are the same pains that a person with endometriosis has, who also have really bad sleep. So on one hand, people can feel how someone with endometriosis feels, and on the other, scientists are wondering if the endometriosis is causing the pain, the insomnia, or both.

Not surprising, if you don't enjoy your partner's company, the relationship is doomed.
I thought t shirts were a navy invention before then to cover men's chest hair because they weren't wearing ties
Site about T-Shirt history says: "In 1905, just about a year after, the U.S. Navy (who employed many bachelors with presumably limited sewing abilities) began issuing the buttonless undershirts as undergarments to be worn under the uniform. These white cotton, short sleeved undershirts became commonplace for sailors. Although required to be worn under their actual uniform, exceptions were made in hot conditions. At the discretion of their commanding officers, sailors were sometimes allowed to wear just the undershirt."

Load More Replies...No it doesn't. Sewing a button on is trivially easy and any man could be taught how to do it. It's more likely that for practicality's sake the Navy wanted a buttonless undershirt so people weren't wasting time sewing buttons on.
Load More Replies...And if you need help getting into the habit of acquiring more knowledge, BetterUp has some advice. First, they recommend treating mistakes as learning opportunities, rather than failures. It’s impossible to learn a new skill, language, etc. without making mistakes along the way. Load More Replies...Intermittent fasting is useful to a point. If you’ve come to the point that you’re skipping meals more often than you’re eating, that’s no longer intermittent fasting and something is not working for you….
This is not true. Your body is not designed to eat constantly and we have many diseases as a result. Please stop sharing unhealthy lies.
This is completely untrue. Your body is designed to be in fasting/feasting mode on a regular basis.
Bit misleading. Skipping the occasional meal here and there won't but continually not having enough calories in a day will eventually lead your body to "try and store calories". It will use body fat first then other parts such as organs to survive. I need to really research this again fully but yes, in times of need your body will use stored fat first.
Intermittent fasting only works if your metabolism is up to speed. If you regularly only eat once a day in a bid to lose weight, your metabolism will slow down, or even almost stop. The best way to lose weight is to have something tiny, several times a day. Think the size of half a boiled egg. Of course, make sure it's healthy and not fattening. Celery, zucchini and a few other vegetables require more energy to digest, than the body gets out of it.
It’s also a good idea to add some time for learning into your schedule. It’s easy for weeks to go by without touching that book on your nightstand or opening your Duolingo app if it’s not part of your routine. But if you allot a certain amount of time every day or week to spend soaking up information, you’ll get used to it! And once you’ve made learning a habit, it’ll feel like something's missing when you skip one of your lessons.

It’s always perplexed me why US colleges count extracurricular activities like sports, clubs, and volunteer work, but totally discount household responsibilities and jobs.
High school sports lead to college sports which lead to college sports revenue. And people who were active in club and volunteer work in the past tend to be active (and generous) in college alumni activities in the future. Follow the money.

Load More Replies...Not always true. I am female & live a solitary life. . Recently I had an emergency appendectomy after waiting 7 hours in a packed ER for treatment. I interacted with the staff as I slowly made my way through the triage. It was only after they sent me in to have a test that it revealed how sick I was. I was asked why I didn't speak up if I was in so much discomfort. It was simple, I felt there were people present who were in more discomfort , I explained. I never took any pain medication post surgery. I never take analgesics of any kind. At the dentist I employ my self- hypnosis skills to get through fillings, etc.

Like most foods that 'help',you need a lot. Pistachios are very expensive
Do a cost comparison to Melatonin supplements then make your pick accordingly. While at the $1.25 store (dollar store) 2 days ago, I noticed that they had small bags of pistachios and small bottles of Melatonin. I live in the US.
Load More Replies...Many people who suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) produce too much melatonin when the lack of sunlight hours triggers their SAD symptoms and that is why they feel like sleeping all winter.
They don't contain melatonin, they help your body to produce it. Melatonin is a neurotransmitter, it's not found in food, it's the body that produces it based on what you eat. It's like saying we should eat food with protein because it contains "muscle".
Less fun fact: Pistachios, like almonds, require an insane amount of water, and for that reason they're not terribly environment-friendly (if grown outside of their native growing conditions).
Even less fun fact: One of the most popular US pistachio brands, Wonderful, is owned by two billionaires who own 60% of California's water supply.

We re-stained our house several years ago from Cedar Tone to Historical Gray(light). Amazing difference in summer time heat inside.
I wonder if the same phenomena goes for cold weather ? Would a house painted green retain heat more efficiently than a white house ? Interesting. In summer it gets very hot where I live. Japan might consider opening up its borders to more immigrants. They might fill both the empty housing and job positions.

Load More Replies...It depends, when you have to wake up. If at around 6-7 am, than yeah, can cause mental problems, because sleeping less than 7-8 hours for years, can fck you up. But, if you don't have a strict wake up time it's more than fine. Working an afternoon-evening scheduled work is more relaxing, because you never have the alarm-clock stress. Also, is almost 4 am here.
Now *this* one appears to have a false causation assumption. Not to mention that there is no collectively agreed-upon strict medical or psychological definition of “mental health problems”—it’s a lay term that can mean almost anything.
I'm retired. I spent the last four years of my career working the overnight shift in a hospital emergency department. That will do it.
I'm a night owl. I used to do my physics homework after midnight because I'd be so wide awake and alert then.
So that's my problem! /s Way to make clinical depression seem like a choice. :(
Yes, I'm sure there's only one stone outcropping in all the world.
That was labelled BS years ago, by studies made in the field. It really doesn't matter, when exactly do you have your last meal of your day. More relevant is, what are you eating, and when exactly before you go to bed. As for no suirprise "heavy" meals won't make you a light sleep, and you'd eat last 2 hours before going to sleep. If that"s at 21.00, than okay, eat your dinner at around 19.00
That's why we never should make life decisions after reading things on BP or any other site alike. 🙃
Load More Replies...The reverse for me; if I go to bed less than 3 hours after eating I will have horrible acid reflux all night. Sugar makes it worse.
Load More Replies...Ah well, we're all doomed to have short lives then... we rarely eat before 8 and sometimes as late as 10. I just claim we're continental :)
yeah, right, all the world has english-speaking world habits / routines.. in some places the meal called "dinner" is eaten earlier in the day
I cry at least once a day, presumably that means there’s 90 year old women out there who have never cried in their lives
That is not true. I cry maybe 10-12 times a year. 20 on a bad one. Maybe I should keep count. My husband has cried 4 times in 16 years that I know of.
The more common name that you'd know it by is Borderline Personality Disorder.
And what are you doing? Nothing! I only woke up 2 seconds ago.
Load More Replies...Language is important. Maybe they call it love brain to encourage female to male attachment because their one child policies has directly led to the male loneliness epidemic and woman shortages. Or I could be wrong, just an idea.
love brain? Is that a nice way of saying obsessive compulsive disorder?
Yup, given my family history of heart disease and that fact that I haven’t eaten breakfast or lunch for over 40 years, I should be long gone. If you don’t see any more posts from me, you’ll know why!
Load More Replies...Just skip the first meal of the day and it all OK... 😬
Load More Replies...So all these recent scientific research into how intermittent fasting and reduction of food intake extends life are wrong and this website is right?
And next week another Study will tell you that drinking 3 cups of tea a day is bad for you and will speed up aging 🤯 they dont have a clue
Yeah, and what kind of tea? Big difference between black and herbal.
Load More Replies...I’d rather age quickly than drink the devil juice that is tea.
But the caffeine in tea will disrupt your sleep which then will shorten your life.
Of course, with no links and nebulous "study says...", most of these just feel like people pulling random things out of their a**e
Yes, and judicious use of 'could' and 'can' rather than 'does'. Many of them are easily disproven, most of the others are tentative at best.
Load More Replies...Complete BS and/or incomplete sentences/thoughts.
Load More Replies...Response to this whole thread, correlation does not equal causation. Yikes. What garbage.
Most of these facts are complete BS and have been dis-proven for quite some time. WTH is BP becoming theChive?
Bored Panda. Your constant pop up ads are getting to the point I am going to quit your website. I'm sick and tired of how long it takes me to read articles now.
