Frequent readers know that we love to cover the “Just Rolled into the Shop” online group where mechanics share the nonsense folks bring them. So we’ve gathered the best (or worst) examples of cars and other vehicles that might need an exorcism before a mechanic can make any real headway.

The vast majority of mechanics are not liars. Car owners tend to underestimate just how badly their vehicle is doing. Or perhaps they drive a less commonly found, imported car, which means that any replacement pieces are more expensive then one might think. TIP: Buy the air filters that have the metal screen on the downstream side. I believe the primary purpose is to prevent the paper from being sucked into the engine if the paper fails for some reason - like if it gets wet. But this is another way the paper can fail. One time I changed my filter and found a mouse had chewed a hole like that. But thanks to the metal screen, all of the "fluffy" chewed up bits stayed on the outer side of the filter and didn't get sucked into the engine.

The mass air sensor will have a wire screen in front of it to prevent damage (at least mine does).

"So what happened here was, we had a really bad blizzard and customer came in saying that all of their lights were on and the car drove horrible (no heat especially) and when we popped the hood we see this terrific mess of snow like wtf ?? Customer never popped the hood, it was left outside during the storm so looks like it was all the wind that absolutely piled up. And it was PACKED. left it to thaw overnight. Ran normal after everything was dry, no problems since.. a mystery to this day maybe they really did leave the hood open lol idk man"

There were a number of these with a kitten in the car. That happened to my wife a few years ago. She had been out running errands, and heard a kitten in her car when she got home. We could hear it, but couldn't see it. She got to looking around online, and someone suggested going on YouTube, finding a recording of a mother cat calling her kittens, and play it near the car. It worked like a charm. The kitten came right out.

There are no compulsory annual inspections in my country either. If a car is taken to be serviced, or have tyres changed, and in the opinion of the mechanic, the car is not road-legal then the car can not be driven away. It must either be fixed, or a tow truck called to remove it. If the car is on the roads, it must be road-legal.

My local Jiffy Lube once found a chicken riding on the rear axle of a lifted truck. Truck owner doesn't own chickens.

We live on the Mississippi and had an old bridge. most was replacing the flooring and had all the asphalt off and you'd just be driving on the grid. They were also stopping people on the bridge, I hated that bridge, fear of heights, so I was looking any where except the road. I saw movement and looked down and saw a kitten just walking around and looking over the side. I got out and was holding on my car so I don't fall off the bridge. Really freaked the lady in front of me when I told her not move her car. The kitten came to me and was really oily. He rode the whole way to the vet with his head shoved into my neck, purring. He must have been in/under a car. He got adopted a day later by a woman that had just had to say goodbye to her dog.
