So I moved into an apartment and immediately had problems. Paid out of pocket to have someone come fix the doors because you could see sunlight around three corners. Went through three refrigerators because the ones he put in kept breaking and lost all my groceries all three times. Went through two dishwashers because they were hooked up wrong and leaked water. Had mold cut out of the ceiling and they left the moldy ceiling all over my cupboard tops. Several plumbing issues, bugs and he had people come install a storm door, they did it wrong and installed it incorrectly and then I had them on camera stealing my doorbell camera. Took three weeks to get it back and they broke the doorbell wires when they tore it from the wall. My lease ended and I left. I paid people to come in and deep clean and shampoo carpets.
My landlord said there was "extensive damage" and that he would be keeping all of my deposit. I asked for proof of damages because he refused to walk through with me and this is the only picture I sent.
I had a landlord charge me £800 when we moved out for getting oil on the carpet. The oil came from the landlords boots when he came to remove the good washing machine and replace with a c**p one because he wanted the good one for his daughter. I even pointed out the carpet and took pictures at the time and disputed the bill but landlords tend to take the whole deposit for spurious reasons anyway.

I’m looking to transfer to a different unit (due to noisy neighbors) and my property manager did a walk-through and claim because of these scratches, and the flooring being discontinued, they have to replace the whole floor. They decided that the estimate was going to be around $8,000. My apartment is 885 square feet. I have been here for a little over two years. I think this floor is laminate but I’m not sure. It has a glossy look. The scratches came about when I first moved in and moved my couch. The point is I want to know if my property manager is trying to scam me or does the pricing sounds accurate.
Sounds like he's trying to upgrade the flooring at your expense so he can charge the next tenant hight rent.

Sadly, a lot of these seem to come down to (probably) first time renters not understanding what their rights are and/or not reading the fine print on the lease agreement before signing. If a landlord is trying to rush or pressure you into signing, take that as a big red flag. If you can afford it, always consult with a lawyer before you sign any contract or agreement. If you can't, at least in the US, most states have some sort of tenant's rights organization that will advise you for free. At the very least, do some research online. My very first apartment was kind of old and rundown, but it was about what you'd expect for somebody fresh out of college. Thankfully my landlord was a decent guy, because this was pre-internet and I didn't have access to the kinds of resources available to renters today.
I must have been lucky. Almost all my landlords have been responsive, polite, and trustworthy. My rental days are over but I have way more trouble with my HOA than I ever did with my landlords.

Floors sagging, water flowing from the ceiling during rain storms, mold, slugs in two rooms, mice, mushrooms growing inside the front door, and near-constant verbal abuse and threats from the landlady. My asthma and depression were horrendous. I'm living in a fantastic apartment now, saying prayers of gratitude daily for such a blessing. But the trauma from those 5+ years still haunts me, so much that I'm unable to read the majority of these awful landlord experiences. I'm truly sorry for people who have no choice but to put up with these situations.

I observe foreman having to bring the other two (they both have revoked licenses). Watching them work is like watching the three stooges. One of them almost falls off (drunk--hence the revoked licenses). They finish pulling off the old shingles and leave for the day. Without bothering to cover the roof with tarps or anything. We'll be back tomorrow foreman says. Well.. you can guess, it rains overnight..... Landlord ended up having to replace my sister's furniture as it was coming in all the light fixtures... Idiot.
I assume renting out property is not regulated? If this happened where I live, you ask the tenant's rights team to come over. They have a look at your apartment or house, make notes and take pictures of everything that is wrong and needs repairing/replacing, then they draft for you a legal letter to your landlord giving him 30 days to start getting his s**t together and if he doesn't comply, you tell him you will not pay rent until he complies or lowers his rent significantly. If he still doesn't comply, you take it to court where you will win as a matter of course because the law is very clear and specific. Housing, by the way, should be in the hands of the state, not individuals.
Rental property is highly regulated almost everywhere in the U.S. and tenants have access to a plethora of resources to correct issues like the ones in these posts. Generally similar to what you described. Unfortunately, too many people aren't aware of those rights so slumlords get away with stuff like this. And state-run housing is no panacea. It has its benefits but may drawbacks, too.
