The scariest things aren’t always the ones that jump out at you. They don’t announce themselves with warning signs or eerie music in the background. Instead, they sit there, unnoticed, hiding in plain sight.

That’s what makes these photographs so chilling. At first, they look like any other picture—normal, unremarkable, even forgettable. But once you learn the truth behind them, they become something entirely different.

Scroll down to find out why—though you might end up wishing you hadn’t.

Her name was Tereska and she suffered brain damage from a piece of shrapnel when her grandmother's home was flattened by a bomb. She and her sister walked 40 miles to get out of Warsaw. This drawing was done while she was in a "a home for disturbed children" after the war. She was never in a concentration camp but she still lost her home, her family, and her mind.

Apparently Tereska's brain damage wasn't severe, under better circumstances she would probably recover. Her poor mental state was result of trauma. She was also quite good at drawing, and could draw a house just fine. But they asked her to draw "home".

People think that there are two reactions to danger, but there are really three: fight, flight, or freeze. Having been in a situation once where the "freeze" reaction hit, I'm willing to bet some of those seemingly calm people are, in fact, fully aware of the danger and are literally incapable of moving out of the way.

My aunt, uncle, and two cousins were there when it happened. The only reason they were not still at their hotel on the coast was because the day before my aunt broke her leg and they had to go to a hospital inland. They had been planning to go to the beach that day to. I guess she was lucky she broke her leg or they probably all would have died.

Aerial maps showcasing target circles; associated with creepy photos and their dark histories. This is one that always stuck with me, just the way you have this bustling city in one frame, and the same city scythed clean with nuclear fire in the next. It's hard to imagine that level of devastation, a blast that burned civilians into the pavement and left shadows that would still be there decades later.

Throughout much of the world this has been labeled a "war crime". The U.S. did not ask for this war and the Japanese didnot wish to end it. If the Nazis had not persecuted all of their Jewish scientists they would have had the bomb first. The United States has committed its shate of atrocities but the concept of Germany and Japan being world superpowers is not pleasant to think about.

My great uncle was going to celebrate his 19th birthday on December 7, 1941. He was in the Navy and stationed on the USS Arizona. He did not see the next day. HIs brothers joined or were in service. It is very probable that one or two of them would had participated in the invasion of Japan and they might not have made it home.along with 1 - 2 million forecast Allied casualties and 10 - 15 million forecast Japanese casualties. Not enough people look at the atomic bombings through the lens of the time, but are very comfortable looking at it from a distance of 80 years.

Blurry figures walk through a mall, creating eerie and unsettling context with a dark history, evoking a creepy atmosphere. The toddler in the photo is James Bulger.

He is being lead away from his mother by one of the two 10 year old boys who abducted and would later m****r him.

Here's a paragraph from Wikipedia; At the trial it was established that at this location, one of the boys threw blue Humbrol modelling paint, which they had shoplifted earlier, into Bulger's left eye. They kicked and stomped on him, and threw bricks and stones at him. Batteries were placed in Bulger's mouth. Police believed some batteries may have been inserted into his anus, although none were found there. Finally, a 22-pound (10.0 kg) iron bar, described in court as a railway fishplate, was dropped on him. Bulger suffered ten skull fractures as a result of the iron bar striking his head. Dr. Alan Williams, the case's pathologist, stated that Bulger suffered so many injuries—42 in total—that none could be isolated as the fatal blow.

Even if the UK still had the death sentence (it doesn't), can you even imagine putting two CHILDREN through the process of death-by-government? Just... They were TEN. They would have cried for their mothers. They deserved punishment but what heartless person would tie children to a table and inject them and watch them twitch and die?

The k1llers were jailed (not life as they were juveniles) and finally released on licence with new names. One hasn't been heard of since. The other, Jon Venables, committed some other evil act and was sent back to prison, where hopefully he will rot.

A person sitting in a rocky area near a camper and vehicle, evoking a mysterious atmosphere. This photo, taken at 7 PM, May 18th, 1980 in the forests of Washington state.

In the photo is David A. Johnston, star vulcanologist for the United States Geological Survey, camped at his trailer at his field post.

Less than 24 hours later, Johnston, the trailer, and everything else within ~30 miles would be obliterated by a lateral blast from Mount St. Helens’s eruption, making Johnston the first US Government Vulcanologist to be k****d in the line of duty.

His last words were a radio call to the USGS station in Vancouver WA, which you can find recordings of online:

    “Vancouver! Vancouver! This is it!”

It had to have been before May 18 because the actual eruption happened at 8:32 am on May 18, 1980. We lived in Yakima, WA at the time and heard the explosion that Sunday morning. Clouds of ash came over along with thunder and lightning. Several hours later, before noon, the sky was completely gray and nearly dark as night. Very eerie. We didn't know if it was the end of the world or not. Our daughter was 18 days old.

Two smiling women giving thumbs up in a lush, green mountainous area; creepy photo with a dark history. Lisanne Froon and Kris Kremers managed to document getting lost in the jungle in Panama. They kept going past the marked easy trail instead of turning around went down the other side of the mountain, they wound up lost with no real hiking/camping supplies in dense, sparsely populated wilderness. At least one of them survived for a week. That photo is one of the last touristy ones, but they're probably already lost in it without realizing.

They walked the Pianista trail, which seems not to an easy trail at all. I live in the Netherlands and remember the extensive covering of the search for them and the aftermath. Parts of them were found, the camera with lots of photos was found. According to repirts from people looking for them, the trail is (was not) signposted well and the trail conditions difficult (steep climbs, no actual path to follow, sidepaths that looked like te real teail). They made it to the lookout, but then it all gets strange.

When I was 13/14 my friend and I went walking in the forest behind her house. Somehow we got completely turned around. Eventually and I mean like 3 hours, we found a road and fortunately a nice lady to take us home. We were several miles away in a whole other town. This was in the 80s, no cellphones.

Obvs weren't equipped for more than a basic walk. Fine in the woods, not in the jungle. Someone once lied to me about conditions on a 'walk' thinking I had exaggerated health conditions, leaving me without water on a hot day in a remote area. Never ever again.

You think they got lost because they took pictures, even though the pic in question is specifically said to probably be from after they got lost (meaning it had nothing to do with them getting lost)? Are you stupid?

Divers exploring underwater, capturing creepy photo with mysterious dark history, amidst blue ocean surroundings. In this photo a man took of his wife diving, you can probably see another diver on the sea floor. That's Tina Watson. A few minutes before this photo, her husband turned off her air supply and held her underwater until she drowned. He then went up to the surface and told the other divers she was "in trouble", and you can see someone else swimming to try and save her.

EDIT: He did serve 12 months in prison in Australia for Manslaughter, as a plea bargain (Neither he nor the court knew if he was going down for m****r). When he returned home to Alabama, the US courts tried to get him on the grounds that he'd planned the m****r there, but he got off due to lack of evidence. Australian authorities refused to help with the American trial, as they'd broken an extradition clause not to push for the death penalty.

Edit 2: changed some info people have corrected me on. Also, the manslaughter charge managed to stick because despite apparently being a trained rescue diver, he made no evident effort to save her, or share his own functioning tank. Also one witness says he saw Gabe Watson "engaged in a bearhug with his flailing wife".

There was absolutely no actual evidence of murder in the case, and the only eyewitness thought he was trying to save her. IIRC (and I read a great deal about it on SCUBA forums not long after it happened) the Australian charges were based on him being a really, really bad dive buddy and not reacting in the manner that a good and competent buddy would have. He vastly overstated his own abilities, and should never have taken his new and inexperienced wife on the dive. I believe the dive company also got in some trouble for not following their own rules that either would have prohibited her from doing he dive or would have required supervision from a member of their staff. The charges in Alabama were "supported" almost entirely based on a new life insurance policy, apparently because a newly married couple with a mortgage would never take out a life insurance policy unless it was to benefit from murder.

There’s an excellent tv film called “Fatal Honeymoon”’with the late (too soon) Billy Miller, Harvey Keitel and Amber Clayton. Billy plays the husband in an thoroughly chilling way which is a testament to his talent as he was an absolute sweetheart in real life. Though a dramatization and a trifle campy (as these films often are), it’s a fairly faithful recounting of these events.

Wikipedia: Colin McKenzie, a key diving expert in the original investigation who had maintained that "a diver with Watson's training should have been able to bring Tina up", subsequently retracted much of his testimony after being provided with Tina and Watson's diver logs, certificates and medical histories, to which he had not previously had access. McKenzie claimed Watson should not have been allowed in the water and never as a dive buddy for his wife, who had no open water scuba experience. Tina had heart surgery to correct an irregular heartbeat two years earlier but on her dive application had stated that she had never had heart problems or surgery. Professor Michael "Mike" Bennett, a leading expert in dive medicine, stated that Tina was unfit to dive without clearance from a cardiologist. Watson had received his rescue certification, normally a four-day course, after completing a two-day course in an Alabama quarry. He had no rescue experience and little open water experience.

According to McKenzie, "He had no hope of being competent, he could barely save himself [that day] let alone his wife; I don't believe he intended to k**l her." Revelations that Watson needed help to don his diving equipment that day underscored that he was a "dangerous amateur" who showed "a complete lack of courage" when he abandoned his wife.

Two vintage photos; top with women lined up eating, bottom with men in uniforms at a table. Creepy undertones. A charming photo of some women, mostly clerks and secretaries, eating bowls of blueberries while being entertained by a man on the accordion.

And a group of men drinking and laughing at a picnic table.

The kicker? All of these photos are of guards and staff at Auschwitz during their days off. The atrocities of the camp were taking place less than a mile away.

The entirety of the album is called [Laughing at Auschwitz]. If it weren't for the photos of some of the men in uniform, you would think it was a f*****g summer camp.

While it's awful what happened, it's easy for us to say we wouldn't have done the same. Some believed they were doing the right thing (indoctrination is a mighty weapon) and others did as they were told out of fear (yes, also a mighty weapon). People even talking even to friends negatively about the system were risking their lives.

Not the case. The bulk of the admin staff escaped in to the general population. Very few were prosecuted. Camp staff and guards were occasionally caught when the allied armies overran the area faster than expected. In the east they were shot and occasionally in the west too, but typically camps had been abandoned.

She was paralyzed and wheelchair bound and ended up with severe sepsis and passed away. This is not a super uncommon issue with victims of gunshot wounds. Abdominal wounds cause some horrible adhesions(internal intestinal scar.tisue, for example, grows into other tissues) this can lead to multiple surgeries, massive pain, colostomies and death.

They wanted to win a war that could never be won at all cost including the murders of millions innocent people and the deaths of hundreds of thousands of military personal. Warrant officer Hugh Clowers Thompson Jr. and his helicopter crew were instrumental in halting the mass***e by threatening and blocking those out-of-control soldiers in the act of killing unarmed villagers, including old men, women and children. But for his actions, many more would probably have been killed. There is a blood lust in humans of a certain type, which can be witnessed in recent historical times such as this, and also at Wounded Knee, Sand Creek (Native Americans murd***d), and on Bloody Sunday in Derry, Northern Ireland, with the shooting dead of innocent civilian marchers by British soldiers whose officers had lost control once the firing began. Thompson's courage and disregard for his own personal safety proves that sometimes in the midst of great evil, some good may be found through the actions of those like him and a small number of others...

“I found myself on the ground with the others,” McQuilken recalled. “Sean was collapsed and huddled on his knees. Smoke was pouring from his back.” It turned out that Sean was one of at least three people hit directly that day by the triple-pronged bolt, including one man who died and another who sued the U.S. government for not warning about lightning danger, Jensenius noted. The lawsuit was dismissed. https://www.nbcnews.com/healthmain/decades-later-hair-raising-photo-still-reminder-lightning-danger-6C10791362 interview July 20, 2013.

In 1995 we were under a tornado warning, the sirens were going off. So my husband and I took the baby downstairs in the basement. He had the baby on the couch and i stood up for some reason. My hair did that exact same thing, moments before the house was struck by lightning. One second we were laughing and next I saw a light and was thrown to the ground. I didn't get struck by lightning but it was close enough (2 storeys up) to knock me down. That was insane. We were lucky, our house didn't catch fire nor were we hit by the tornado, but I will never forget that.

Smart was missing for 9 months. the picture was taken some time in the middle of that period, at a party the kidnapper crashed with Smart. She was made to wear the veil in order to keep from being recognized in public.

A person in protective gear inspects a dark, eerie scene, representing creepy photos with haunting histories. Chernobyl Elephant's Foot, a formerly molten mass of corium from the reactor core meltdown. It still emits radiation today that can k**l you if you hang around it too long, but not as much as back in 1986. They had to use a set of mirrors in order to get photographs of the mass.

This photo was taken in 1996, ten years after the accident by Artur Korneyev. He was able to visit it because the mass is about 10% uranium which emits alpha radiation, which usually can't penetrate the skin, but is lethal if inhaled, hence his mask. The Corium contains other elements, such as caesium-137, which emits Gamma radiation so you still would need to calculate the 'safe' exposure time in it's presence. The first photograph of the elephants foot was taken by Valentin Obodzinsky, he lived a long time after the Chernobyl incident.

A person conducting an experiment with metal spheres in a laboratory, related to creepy dark histories. Demon Core. This is a recreation photo of an accident that occurred with the infamous "demon core". Physicist Louis Slotin was conducting an experiment to verify the exact point at which a subcritical mass of fissile material could be made critical by the positioning of neutron reflectors. Basically, the two half spheres would be adjusted around the core and the core activity would be measured.

The risk was that if the spheres were allowed to close, the core would instantaneously form a critical mass. To keep them from closing, he pried the top core up with a screw driver. Unfortunately the screw driver slipped, a critical mass formed, and (near) instantly gave him a lethal dose of radiation. He shielded the other people in the room and was the only fatality.

    Kabuki Kitsune

8 months ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Basically, at the time, no one knew how fissile material reacted when it neared the critical point which could lead to detonation. So, what they were studying here (using a host of equipment to do so), was how various moderators would affect the reaction. At the time of the accident, they had blocks of tungsten carbide surrounding it to reflect the neutrons. Slotin was using a screw driver to lever the top of the core up and down, while monitoring the neutron emissions. He slipped, both spheres came in contact, and went supercritical for a split second before he grabbed and threw the top one off to end the event. That gave him a dose of radiation so strong that he died within five days.

It was a simple case of death from radiation, similar to what American scientists and medical personnel saw in Japan among A-bomb victims.

As it happens, Joe Reaves, they had geniuses on the Manhattan Project such as Nobel prize winner Enrico Fermi who make a point of warning Slotin to stop messing about with his unsafe procedure or it'd k**l him. Ignoring the warning - given by an actual certified genius - does rather indicate Slotin wasn't as bright as all that. 😬

The first incident with the 'demon core' was on August 21, 1945. Manhattan project physicist Harry Daghlian made a mistake while performing neutron reflector experiments. A security guard, Private Robert J. Hemmerly, was also in the room, but approximately 10 to 12 feet away, he survived the accident. The second incident was on May 21, 1946. The 'safe' procedure for the criticality experiment was to use wedge shaped shims to avoid an accident, but Slotin preferred to use a flat-head screwdriver. He knew he was taking a risk, even Enrico Fermi (winner of Nobel Physics prize, 1938) advised that it was too dangerous. After these two incidents, the demon core was melted down into smaller test cores, and future 'hands-on' experiments with cores were banned. Remote equipment was developed to do the work instead.

Slotin wasn't a hero. He was a reckless fool (that's fool, not idiot) who chose to behave recklessly dangerously after similarly sloppy behaviour had already killed a man, and after being warned against his recklessly foolish behaviour by Enrico Fermi. FAFO, you might say - he wasn't the only casualty, but the man he nearly killed survived the acute radiation poisoning that Slotkin's foolish behaviour gave him. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demon_core#Second_incident

Back in 2020, the state of Utah actually was looking into the logistics of reopening the cave, in an effort to reclaim his remains. The reasoning being that he would have decomposed to the point that reclamation would have been relatively easy. The family were on board with this, by all accounts, but ultimately the state decided that given the thickness of the concrete cap which had been poured in to seal the cave, that the cost to recover his remains would be prohibitive, and decided to leave him where he is.

You shouldn't need to know anything about cave rescue to figure out that it's easier to get a body out of a cave than it is to get a live patient out of the cave. There's not as much urgency, you don't need to protect your patient during transport, and in the few incidents where somebody is stuck it's okay if you cause damage while pulling on them.

Family posing in front of a car while a figure in the background with a camera adds an eerie element to the photo. The M****r of Reynaldo Dagsa.

A filipino politician, Dagsa was on vacation spending time with his family.
Looks like a regular family photo at first glance right?

I am not a huge fan of clowns, but some of them are cute, funny, entertainig, and lots of kids love them. But this? This clown looks like a great way to traumatize kids and adults alike.

It was a different time. Clowning was a big part of pop culture and was a respected form of entertainment. Clowns were a regular form of entertainment on TV, comedians, birthday parties, circuses, children's events and more. Charlie Chaplin, Marx Brothers, Abbott and Costello, Buster Keaton all portrayed clown characters. Red Skelton during his 20 year run of the "Red Skelton Show" had several clown personas. Bozo the clown was another famous clown that influenced the creation of "Krusty the Clown" on the "Simpsons". Paintings and dolls were a common sight in people homes. Red Skelton was famous for his paintings which used to sell for thousands. Clowns like Pogo, IT, and perhaps the clown from Poltergeist, and Captain Spaulding, changed sentiment from fun and jolly to sinister and creepy.

Elderly man in a striped shirt and red cap holding a pitchfork in a rural setting. How about an entire film?

    Errol Morris' documentary Vernon, Florida

Errol Morris is a great documentary maker that can really capture people well. This documentary is a look at a small rural town in Florida. The film doesn't really have a narrative. It's just made up of interviews with some of the colorful and quirky characters in their rather mundane small town.

And just based on that, it's a really neat documentary to watch. It's not the best documentary you'll ever see, but it's quaint, touching, often funny.

But the thing is: that's not the documentary Errol Morris set out to make. In fact, the original name of the documentary was *Nub City*.

You see, the city of Vernon, at the time, had the highest rate of limb amputation in America per capita. People missing fingers, hands, feet, etc. The messed up bit is that they were doing it to themselves, on purpose, in order to collect on insurance money.

While filming the documentary, Errol Morris started receiving death threats from the residents who were scared he was going to expose their secret. Errol took the threats seriously enough that he re-edited the whole film so it never mentions anything about the amputations.

So now it's just a nice documentary, about some colorful and quirky characters in their rather mundane small town.

Another murder, another "we got the guy, all good" - but no attempt to make these constant murders stop. Why is it that 95-or-what percent of all violent murderers are men? Why is it that so "many" men feel entitled to k**l women? That would work if he was always loving towards her and then suddenly just killed her and then himself. I don't know whether that is the case or not, just putting out there that if you find yourself harming others, and don't get help up to the point where you stay away from them and get yourself into custody, you're not "innocent".

He was taunting bears and other wildlife for years. Interfering with nature. Assigning himself some sort of weird lookout role for them. Tried to interfere in an exchange between bears. At times, he anthropomorphizes them in some immature ways. Just got creepier the more I watched the different films. He got his girlfriend killed by the bears he taunted. She tried to help his f*ckin @sshole self, while he was being mauled by the bears he interfered with for years. Then, at least one of those bears was put down ALL BECAUSE OF THIS F*CKIN LOSER.

He forced himself into their world, over and over, his brutal narcissism had such a stranglehold on anyone and anything around him. Listening to the way he talks in these films, he makes himself like an adopted member of their families, and it is obvious it is NOT just someone who struggles to find a place with other humans. It is to a dangerous degree for the animals AND ONE OF FEW HUMANS WHO STILL CHOSE TO BE AROUND HIM, as it would all end in that exact way. This mother f*cker makes my skin crawl. The least of what HE deserved was whatever was happening to him in those sounds of his death on that audio.

I've watched a few documentaries about this dude. IIRC, he'd go to the mountains for around six months a year to live with the bears. He supposedly got bad vibes (can't remember the exact phrasing, but you get the idea) from the bear that ended up killing him, as it seemed to dislike him whereas the others in the pack tolerated him.

I've seen Grizzle Man and read lots about Treadwell and his death. Treadwell was arrogant, narcissistic, and a little bit of a conman; his actions were wildly irresponsible. His desperation to be someone and do something is so obvious in watching his videos that feature himself; it's sort of gross. Neither he nor Amie Huguenard deserved to die, but it was inevitable; his arrogance was greater than his respect for grizzles.

Historic street scene with vintage trams in a bustling city area, capturing an eerie atmosphere of the past. To me, it will be this one of the Iroquois Theatre Fire. You can see smoke pouring from inside the glass

When this photo was taken, around 600 people were trapped inside the building in pitch darkness whilst a fire incinerated/smoke asphyxiated them one by one.

    The story:

In 1903, a "fireproof" theatre opened in Chicago IL, and proceeded to host a play called Bluebeard. Around 600 people attended, but midway through the performance, it is believed that an old arc light shorted out and caused one of the stage curtains to set alight.

The theatre was not equipped with fire extinguishers, but rather a fire-extinguishing powder which was inadequate. The fire spread to other curtains and an "fireproof" curtain was lowered, but snagged halfway down on a light.

In panic, one of the stage employees opened a back door to the theatre, causing a backdraft of air to enter, turning the fire into a fireball that blasted out into the seating area and incinerated hundreds.

Some people in the upper seating areas had left the play room, however they became trapped in the narrow corridors due to the fact that some of the non-opening windows into the vestibule resembled doors , and some of the proper doors used an Espagnolette "bascule lock", an old french lock that most Americans had no idea how to manipulate. As a result, people began piling up at these doors because the poor people at the front had no idea how to open them. It is likely they were crushed to death.

Astronauts in training suits floating beside a capsule in a pool, part of a creepy photo collection with dark histories. This is just a bunch of astronauts hanging out at the pool and generally being awesome, right? Nope. That's the crew of Apollo 1. See the hatch on the capsule that opens inward? They died in that capsule, unable to escape the fire.

The crew did die in a capsule, but not that one. NASA had different mock up capsules for different aspects of training. Their spacecraft was the one they were going to fly in and was sitting on top of a rocket on the launch pad when they died.

To add to this, the reason they died wasn't just because of the hatch opening inward, but because NASA filled the capsules with pure oxygen. This caused any small spark to produce an inferno. Modern analysis has found, that if they had been in a less oxygen rich environment, the inward opening hatch wouldn't have been a problem, as the fire wouldn't have become unsurvivable as quickly.

the capsule atmosphere was pure oxygen, at high pressure. Their space suits were made of nylon, from petroleum based chemicals. a faulty toggle switch emitted a spark, which set the tragedy in motion.

Hatches still open inward on NASA vehicles. It's a fail safe in space as cabin pressure keeps is closed in case of latch failure. But not a good thing in a fire.

Two men seated by a fireplace, smiling, with a mysterious aura. Creepy photo with an intriguing backstory. Two brothers goofing off for a photo. Hours later after arriving home from dinner, the man on the left would have his brother(pictured on the right) and mother (who took the photo) m******d after conspiring with a friend. He attempted to have his father m******d as well but he survived.

Don't. Don't look at one photo and think you know the person is "good" or "bad". Good people can look awkward. Bad people can look 'normal'. You just strengthen the fallacy that someone who acts normally (or even is "beautiful") can't be a terrible person. Which helps murderers, rapists and all that shyte.

I've been looking at Bored Panda for a couple of months - some of it is really funny or mind blowing. That's great. But why are so many words censored ? If it's swearing, then we have to make sense of the word in order to understand the post, which makes censoring pointless. Equally, censoring words like "killed" or "m******d" merely detracts from the post's meaning and downplays the effect that such actions have on people. Is Bored Panda aimed at children or some other vulnerable group? If that's the case I shouldn't be here. If not then we are old enough to know that people swear and k**l each other on a daily basis as well as having s*x in variety of ways. So, why?

Two men smiling during a playful wrestling session indoors, one wearing a sweatshirt, capturing a moment with a creepy history. This is John du Pont and Dave Schultz.

John (The man on the bottom) hosted a massive wrestling team where all of the athletes lived on the grounds. Schultz was hired to coach the team.

As time went on John started to act stranger than normal (He was already very odd). He started to think his friend Schultz was spying on him. He believed that Schultz was hiding in his walls spying and plotting to k**l him. It seems to me like John was a paranoid schizophrenic.

Eventually John snapped. He drove up to Schultz's home and shot him in front of his family. Schultz died moments later.

Edit: The documentary is called *Team Foxcatcher*.

I visit BP because I enjoy, and learn, from most of the content. No doubt, I will continue to. But the censorship. This woman lost her life. LOST HER LIFE! Yet BP censor the word that describes that event because it could be considered distasteful. Think of it. Someone no longer exists, and to BP censoring a 'word' is considered more important! I do not believe for a moment that this has anything to do with advertising, either.

Portrait of a smiling person with long dark hair. The eerie context adds to the photo's creepy aura. Serial k****r Rodney Alcala was on The Dating Game in between m*****s. So that in itself is creepy, seeing this serial k****r charm a young woman on national television. You have to think, "Is he imagining all the vile things he wants to do to her? Is he planning this woman's m****r on camera right now?"

There's a lot of seemingly normal innocent pictures relating to him as he was a photographer and loved taking photos of potential victims. Whether they can still be found on the internet I'm not entirely sure. He also took and kept earrings from the girls and women he tortured and k****d.

Why censor words like "m******d" or "killed", which in this case seems to implicate that t*****e is okay as it's not censored. Censoring words like "m******d" or "killed" seems to make them a euphemism for some other activity. Why censor at all ? Unless Bored Panda is aimed at children or some other vulnerable group : are we not adults here? As adults we know that people swear, k**l and have s*x in a variety of ways, along with whatever other activities are noted on Bored Panda. Why are words here censored ? Two people sitting on steps, one smoking a cigarette, with a curious atmosphere. It's better to read the whole story. Shortly after Hurricane Katrina, police were called to a s*****e of a man who jumped off a building. In his pocket they found a s*****e note, telling them where to find his girlfriend. He had gone crazy, cut her up, and cooked pieces of her body.

Before this, they were somewhat famous. That picture showed a couple in love, weathering the storm together.

Woman in a desolate landscape holding a puppy, evoking a sense of dark history and mystery. Myra Hindley, on the Saddleworth moors with her dog, Poppet. She is looking down at the grave of John Kilbride, one of her's, and Ian Brady's, young victims.

Hindley and Brady used to take photos hinting to the gravesites of their child victims, and when their crimes came to light, these pictures were used to help find the bodies.

Also, a little more on the serial k****r theme - a home video taken of Jeffrey Dahmer during Thanksgiving Day 1990. Note the 'I should really start eating at home more'. Yeah... he was already starting to cannibalise his victims at this point. Lionel Dahmer, his father (and the guy behind the camera), later said that in retrospect, his foot would jerk at every mention of his apartment, what he was doing in his spare time, or what he was eating. You can just make it out in the video.

Edit: A little more info on Dahmer's situation at the moment this video was taken. He had already k****d 9 men and boys, the latest (David Thomas) was m******d three weeks before Thanksgiving. At this point he was still *relatively* restrained, k*****g every few months and choosing his victims carefully. By February 1991, he had amped up to a m****r a month. By the time he was arrested in July 1991, he had completely lost it; he was missing work, stopped showering and shaving (at times, his tub was filled with up to three bodies) and he was k*****g 2-3 times a week. During the last 6 weeks of his freedom, the only meat he was eating was human flesh.

What floors me is the timeline. We think of murder-s*****e as happening fairly close together. In this case wife (who had been restrained) was m******d in the evening, then son (believe to have been sedated) was m******d the following day. Then a few days later he committed s*****e. It wasn't one event nor was it close together. I can't imagine his thoughts after murdering both his wife and child in his last few days. Maybe he eventually realized what he did and that's when he committed s*****e. BTW he'd wanted his kids from his first marriage to come visit him. Thank goodness their mother said no.

A black and white photo of formally dressed individuals in a room, capturing a moment with a dark history. The most sinister wink of all time.
Context: This photo was taken just after LBJ was sworn in on Air Force One, immediately following the m****r of JFK. In the foreground you'll notice Jackie Kennedy visibly grieving the loss of her husband. LBJ turned towards his longtime friend, Texas congressman Albert Thomas, who gave him a surreptitious wink and a smile. White House photographer Cecil Stoughton, who took the photo, said it could have been "innocent or sinister, and I would have leaned towards the latter." The man in charge of Air Force One at the time, General Godfrew McHugh later said LBJ's behavior on the plane was "obscene."

Edit: Took out a line about blood spatter on Jackie's coat, since people seemed to be really concerned about it. Though there was blood on her coat at the time the photo was taken, it's not in the frame.

RFK believes, like many, that LBJ may have had something to do with his uncle’s murder. The possibility has been a “conspiracy theory” for a long time. Considering what’s come out in the past couple of years, I wouldn’t be surprised at all.

I am not one to believe in conspiracy theories but if this if is true that LBJ gave a wink and a smile after the assassin of JFK then I may have to change my mind on this conspiracy theory.

It wasn’t LBJ who winked: “Texas congressman Albert Thomas, who gave him a surreptitious wink and a smile.”

I once read that after JFK was shot Jackie said she climbed on the back of the car not in an effort to escape but her first instinct in that moment was to grab all the pieces of her husband's head. That has really stuck with me. Also, the outfit she wore that day was never cleaned and has been locked away in an undisclosed location. It may eventually become visible to the public in or after 2103. Her choice to keep the blood stained outfit on as LBJ was sworn in was a deliberate choice; she said "Let them see what they've done."

Malaysia Airlines plane on tarmac, linked to a dark and mysterious history. This picture was taken by a passenger of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 on July 17th 2014. He posted this picture on his Facebook, saying; 'if it goes missing, this is what it (the plane) looks like.' Referring to another Malaysian Airlines plane (flight MH370) that went missing on March 8th 2014. Later that day the plane the man boarded was taken down by a missile fired by either Russia or Ukraine.

It was shot by Russians. And the Russians did everything to protect these murderers. Putin refused to confirm what evidence prooved. It was a flight with mostly Dutch people heading for Australia and Asia for summer holidays, to visit family or travel, hence so many children on that flight. When this happened I already lived kn the Netherlands. With almost 200 Dutch dead, a lot of people had neighbours or colleagues, friends or family under the victims. It was a national tragedy, the king and prime minister were at the airport when the cofgins arrived. The roads were lined with people when the dozens of hearses with the coffins went from the airport to the forensic institute. Only one US passenger, with double nationality (US/Dutch) was killed, so it wasn't an issue for Trump, who 2 years later got all smoochy with Putin.

These are common in Victorian times, related to the infant mortality rate. Plenty of photographers took them. He was celibate and the family cut off contact because they were minor nobility (not royal class but still very high) and he just barely scratched into middle class. There is healthy evidence from both the time and after debunking it.

All the photos that Carrol took of girls were done with their mothers present - he never took photos without the mother's permission. Ever. All the mothers were from families of far high social status than that of Lewis Carrol. All the girls only ever had good memories of him, and none wrote or spoke of anything that he did that was creepy. He disliked young boys intensely. It was weird, and likely pointed to deep issues, but there is no evidence of p********a. Reading the actual Alice-in-Wonderland books (rather than watching the Disney films) and The Hunting of The Snark, both which he wrote for children is fascinating, but there is nothing there that suggests what is insinuated here.

Here is the last sentences of Alice in Wonderland. It is from the point of view of Alice's older sister, Lorina, just after Alice had told her of her dream: "Lastly, she pictured to herself how this same little sister of hers would, in the after-time, be herself a grown woman; and how she would keep, through all her riper years, the simple and loving heart of her childhood: and how she would gather about her other little children, and make their eyes bright and eager with many a strange tale, perhaps even with the dream of Wonderland of long ago: and how she would feel with all their simple sorrows, and find a pleasure in all their simple joys, remembering her own child-life, and the happy summer days."

To be clear, in Victorian times it was considered innocent for a grown man to be friends with a prepubescent girl because obviously nothing could be going on. He's have been like an uncle to her.

Smiling man in casual attire, associated with creepy photos and dark histories. This picture of Varg Vikernes has reached a sort of Internet meme status. The reason being it just looks like a picture of a happy smiling old man, but in reality Varg's back story is that he is a musician who makes incredibly abrasive music, as well as a m******r who k****d another musician from Norway's black metal scene ~~just because~~, and an arsonist who burned down churches in Norway ~~just because~~. This picture of him was taken in prison.

He was released in 2009 and continues making music.

EDIT: Okay so apparently Varg claims to have m******d Euronymous in self-defense, and he burned down the churches because he believes in neo-paganism.

Pagans believe in the validity of different paths to the same end. A Pagan would defend someone's right to believe in Christianity, even if they didn't believe it themselves. I have Pagan friends who have been church bell-ringers because they take joy in British traditions and the importance of keeping the alive.

Watch the film "Lords of Chaos", it's based on a book of the same name, and chronicles the early black metal scene , but primarily focuses on Euronymous (real name Øystein Aarseth), portrayed by Rory Culkin, from the formation of the band Mayhem, until his murder by Varg Vikernes (born Kristian Vikernes, now known as Louis Cachet) in 1993. Note: Vikernes has long been accused of being an anti-Semite, and, in fact, got angry when he found out the actor cast to portray him in the film was Jewish. Note 2: Due to the subject matter, the film is violent and disturbing.

His wife thought he was dead. His plane was shot down. It is a miracle he survived. That is not cheating. Keep in mind, during that time, women could not even have bank accounts without a man "co-signing". She was a military wife with limited employability and multiple children.
