Folks are pretty tired of the constant negative news and content on the internet. As the Reuters Institute's 2024 Digital News Report found, 39% of the global world selectively avoids the news. Some just find it too repetitive and boring, but an increasing number of people say that the nature of the news makes them feel anxious and powerless.

But we're here to give you at least a short reprieve from that. We've collected the newest feel-good stories from the Global Positive News page to make your day a little brighter, Pandas. There's still compassion, kindness, and love in this world, and these stories prove that!

To chat about the importance of positive news in today's climate, Bored Panda had a chat with the managing editor at the Good Good Good media organization, Kamrin Baker. She shared her thoughts about why we might need positive news now more than ever, so, scroll down to see her thoughts below!

On social media, we're often bombarded with negative news. While it's important to keep informed about what's happening in the world, it can be hard not to fall down the rabbit hole of negativity. Good Good Good does its part to help people see that it's not just bad stuff that's happening out there.

"There are so many benefits to reading — and sharing — good news," the managing editor at Good Good Good, Kamrin Baker, tells Bored Panda. "We know that our brains are hardwired to pay attention to the 'bad' stuff, or the information we feel is vital to keeping us alive. This means that finding good news is not an easy task, but it is an important one!"

We were out for a walk and I had a seizure a few houses away from mine and fell in the neighbors yard and lay there until my neighbor went to get my husband. Diemond stayed by my side the whole time and protected me. I really miss my sweet baby boy so much ❤️

A heart surgeon had engine trouble so he took it in to a mechanic. So tell me," says the mechanic, "I've been wondering about what we both do for a living, and how much more you get paid than me.." "Yes?.." says the surgeon. "Well look at this," says the mechanic, as he worked on a big complicated engine, "I check how it's running, open it up, fix the valves, and put it all back together so it works good as new.. We basically do the same job don't we? And yet you are paid ten times what I am - how do you explain that?" The surgeon thought for a moment, and smiling gently, replied,"Try it with the engine running..

Kamrin says that seeking out good news helps us balance out the bad news we might keep seeing online. "[It helps us] reduce feelings of stress and anxiety, stay engaged with the things and stories we care about, build empathy and compassion, and inspire us to do more good, too," she adds.

"Since our standard media landscape is heavily dominated by negative stories, finding good news requires us all to intentionally seek it out. Good Good Good exists to make that a little bit easier."

Chinese family and older couple reunited after 85 years, celebrating a touching, heartwarming moment that restores faith in humanity.

Ron and Lloyd Dong Jr. grew up in Coronado, CA. Their family’s journey to the sunny town wasn’t always easy. In the 1930s, their father, Lloyd Dong Sr., faced housing discrimination as a Chinese American, with most homes off-limits due to racist covenants.

But one family opened their doors - the Thompsons. Gus and Emma Thompson, a black couple, chose to rent their house to the Dongs, defying the racial barriers of the time. In 1955, the Dongs purchased the home and made it their own.

Now, decades later, the Dongs are paying it forward. They’ve decided to sell their family home and donate two-thirds of the proceeds (around $5 million) to the Black Resource Center at San Diego State University. The center will be renamed in honor of Gus and Emma Thompson.

“They did a lot for us,” Ron commented. “In that one little act … it did a lot for our family.”

I hope an adult or a responsible older person was with him while he was doing this.

Engaging with negative news too much causes stress and anxiety. If we regularly read these types of news stories, it keeps our cortisol levels elevated. While it can save us from dangerous situations, having this kind of fight-or-flight response every day wears us out mentally and physically over time. "Slowing down, looking for solutions, and considering nuance in the face of constant news feeds helps take us out of our immediate stress response," Kamrin wrote once.

I wonder if it could be scaled up. It's easy to do things on a small scale. Much harder to do them effectively and cost-efficiently at large scale. If we never heard about it again, chances are it didn't work on a larger scale.

Engaging with good news, on the other hand, can inspire us to do more good. One study found that solutions-focused reporting increased people's problem-solving skills by 20%. "Opening the mind to the fact that others have overcome similar challenges and been successful is an effective way to catalyze positive change, as it creates a greater sense of hope and optimism," the authors explained.

Reminds me of when my father told me how he took in a cute little stray dog and raised it. However, I guess my great grandfather didn’t approve of that, so he apparently took the dog, set it on a train and left it to travel god knows where on the train. Flash forward a few days, the poor dog somehow found its way home and my dad took him in all over again 😃.

Incredible ! Cats have an uncanny ability to do this. No wonder he / she looks exhausted.

While many might be tempted to join the 39% of people around the world who selectively avoid the news, Kamrin believes there's a different solution. "We need to be able to not turn away from the important current events while not completely overloading our brains, and including a healthy diet of good news and solutions journalism with 'normal' news is a huge part of that."

I've always thought that being proud of your country is a bit jingoistic. You have no control over where you're born, so being proud to be British, proud to be American has always seemed odd. Until you realise that it's OK to be proud of what your country stands for, because that's a reflection of the voters and the population at large. I'm proud that we're doing well with renewable energy.

a heartwarminger and world-positiver bit would be to know workers at said closed plant (and mines providing fuel for it) were properly taken care of (assistance in finding new jobs, transitioning to new jobs paying liveable wages within reasonable distance from home or sensible severance payments/allowance for the period before new employment/retirement)

I wish Australia could say the same. The current Labor government has done a lot, especially in my state, but if the Liberals get in in the next election (which is looking likely) that goes up in (coal) smoke. They are claiming they want to go nuclear, but that's just to delay the closures, because it would take so long to bring it in (if they managed to do it at all).

The strange thing is, that lots of people would not mind if these cooling towers belonged to a nuclear plant. One of the difficulties with all "dig stuff up" powered power plants (gas, oil, coal, nuclear): The using country is depending on other countries wanting to sell it and undisturbed transport routes. You are basically a slave hoping for the best. The only two unrestricted, unblockable, freely available power sources for every country are solar and wind.

Cooling towers are cooling towers. The ones at nuclear plants look like those at gas and coal powered plants because they do exactly the same job and their function dictates their form.

They don’t even know what “too much food” is - to them, the more tasty snacks they can get, the better! ISEF is an international organisation, based in the US and mainly focusing on US, even though they claim to be present in "over 70 countries, regions and territories". Anyway, under the new rules, everybody not looking like a descendant of some white European immigrants, will be at risk of being picked up and put in a detention centre for deporting. It does not matter if they have legal documents or visas. I am invited to the US for a wedding, but will not go.

Very sad story, poor guy spend many years alone in death row, never knowing when his time will come. In Japan you are not informed about the day you get executed, neither is your family. So he spend all those years wondering if he gets killéd next day. Horrible

Regardless of how one feels about the death penalty, the process in Japan where they don't tell the incarcerated when they are going to be executed is simply mental torture.

What is heartwarming about this story is the fact that his sister worked for years to get his case reviewed and have him proved innocent. She literally devoted her entire life to saving her brother. He was railroaded because he was slightly mentally-impaired although he had a job. He was totally cleared of charges in recent years.

People installing a protective fence for turtle migration, showcasing faith in humanity restored through conservation efforts.

Booderee National Park in Australia installed a four-kilometre-long conservation fence at the gardens last November. The fence was part of a project to reintroduce eastern quolls.
However, the fence obstructed the migration of eastern long-necked turtles between water sources. To address this, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Australia installed nine water-filled tunnels under the fence.
The tunnels are two-meter-long and 70-centimeter-deep with a design that resembles a bathtub, a swim-through system to deter foxes and quolls from entering. Over 123 days of monitoring, 73 turtles successfully used the tunnels, with no sightings of foxes or quolls.
"Sometimes our actions to protect one species can have unintended consequences for others...it's nice to know both the quolls and turtles will be happy," WWF Australia's rewilding program manager Rob Brewster commented.

This one is so sad. The owner passed and they couldn't exactly explain it to the poor dog, so she stayed outside refusing to eat or move the whole time, even through a terrible storm, until someone finally managed to trap her. A member of the hospital staff took her home and adopted her, but she said it was clear the poor dog was still pining for her original owner.

It might have been an idea to have shown the dog the original owners body, if at all practical. It would have cried it's heart out but at least recognised that he was no longer alive. Animals need to say their goodbyes as much as humans do, probably more so.

A forever chemical does not degrade or change over time and exposure to the elements. For example, iron oxidizes (rusts) when it encounters the atmosphere, eventually the iron object disintegrates. So iron is not a forever chemical.

Does the savings in fuel make up for the longer shipping time, more wages for the crew, and reduced volume of goods? If wind power were economically feasible we'd never see those massive container ships. This strikes me as a gimmick. I doubt that Rudolph Saade will trade in his cargo vessels.

My parents do NOT sleep in and haven’t since I was in elementary school. They both insist on being up between 5-6 every single day regardless of when they went to bed because they think it’s makes them sound lazy to sleep in any later. Meanwhile I love heading to bed around 11-12 at night and sleeping in until 8-9 on weekends 🥰 and then waking up slow and enjoying my coffee and kitty snuggles. I genuinely don’t care if that makes me sound lazy because it makes me so happy 🥰

Once there was a mild emergency and they didn’t get home until almost 2:00am. When I got up for work around 6:30 the next morning my mom was sitting at the table like a miserable exhausted zombie after only 3 hours of sleep, insisting to herself that she was doing the responsible thing even though she had no work or major plans that day 😂 I was like mom, go back to bed and get the rest you actually need. This is unhealthy.

Actually there are plenty of children who cannot, it's also just not as good for them and if the kid had any health or immune issues then breast milk is best.

The Starlight Foundation in Australia do similar things, including a playroom with toys and games. The siblings of patients can use them too, so my sister and brother used one often when we were spending days visiting our other brother in icu in 2004.

I am hoping the bans in Australia have a similar effect, rather than just increasing the illegal trade. Victoria has already been subject to at least two years of arson attacks from gangs involved in the illegal tobacco trade which has led to some deaths of innocent people. The latest because the attacker 'got the wrong address'!

David Jones, 64, of Boiling Springs, SC, was on his way to his daughter Elizabeth's wedding when Hurricane Helene hit. What should have been a two-hour drive turned into a 12-hour odyssey. David encountered numerous obstacles including downed trees, power lines, and washed-out roads. Undeterred by official warnings, he decided to continue on foot. + He braved mud, debris, and dangerous conditions, relying on the kindness of strangers for rides when possible. + Against all odds, David arrived at the church just in time to walk his daughter down the aisle. "He's a very special man, and he has very special love for us," Elizabeth commented. "He would go to the ends of the earth for us — come hell or high water — and he did that."

It's the people that ignore warnings that often have to be saved in these situations. I'm not sure this is such a good news story. Not saying he didn't demonstrate his love for his daughter, but I'm not sure this was the best thing to do. It could have had a much worse ending.

That's the thing about AI. It has its good uses, and of course a human is going to check after to confirm its results, so it helps where humans may miss things. AI should definitely be used for this, rather than """art"""

This is good to hear. I saw a report a week or so ago about how the traditional method of detecting cancer isn't the best one, as sometimes the abnormal cells are too small or the image is unable to distinguish them in denser breast tissue. People are advocating for MRI to be used for people with denser breasts.
