Meet Bruce fka Bucket Head. He is a feral in the neighborhood i started feeding about 6 years ago. He was scrappy and always trying to pick fights with my two indoor/outdoor kitties and i knew i had to get him neutered. Mission accomplished april of last year. i figured he’d keep on being the feral boy i feed but hopefully a little calmer and less beat up all the time. slowly, slowly, he started holding still at distance when i would see and talk to him. Little by little, closer and closer until one day right before thanksgiving he let me touch him 
and from there we just kept making progress. He is still a little aggressive with my kitties but im hopeful we can work through that with time (tips welcome). anyways, i just love him and im so glad he can spend his senior years comfy and loved. He is a bit wobbly as well so he has no business trying to be a bad ass outdoors any longer.

We had a cat show up to our back door a few weeks ago. It would sit and cry at the door but run off when we approached. It put food and water out and posted on nextdoor and Facebook. Thought we'd found the owner but not so. It hung around for a few days and reappeared about a week later. Haven't seen it since. A different cat showed up the other day but only long enough to p**s our cats off. Lol
How does this happen? We have a greyhound I guess she must scare all the cats away before they enter the home. I have never had a cat come inside. Interesting!
There was one cat, a tabby who I affectionately referred to as 'Tigerstripe' (I love the Warriors series). She'd come to visit me about 3 times during the summer but sadly she stopped showing up. She loved being pet and was super friendly so I think she was someone's cat. Opened the door to grab my phone and she waltzed in like she owned the place! I've named my current NMC Mr. Pickles after the white cat from Hawaii Five-O. He's a stray with health issues. It took months before he would let me pet him. He refuses to live inside. I'll continue to feed him.
It is my greatest hope that someone took in my sweet Katmandu. He was an outdoor kitten whose brother we managed to get inside and adopt. He was slower to warm up, and used to freak out if I brought him in and closed the door. While he remained an outdoor cat, he would come running when he saw me, and we would cuddle outside. He also started to come inside for visits. I put him out one day after he hissed at a kitten we had taken in and Katmandu never came back, our 5 year relationship was over. A neighbor across the street moved out about this time. I'm hoping she took him with her.
My neighborhood in New Orleans had a lot of strays. I had a very independent indoor/outdoor cat at the time and it wasn't unusual for her to disappear for a day or two. I suspected she had a secret second family somewhere. Turns out, she had not one but TWO lookalikes, and they'd all been running their scam on me and God knows how many other houses, pretending to be one cat. I was impressed.
I think it's more "my house, my new humans". We had a feral kitten walk into our house and had her for 15-16 years and two moves. She also disappeared one winter and returned in the spring - we think some senior took her in and she came back after she escaped... R.I.P. Lucy-furr Meow-Meow.

I "stole" my neighbor's cat and named him Smurf. He was the best cat ever, after helping him overcome a horrible respiratory illness he left and went to live with an old lady. He's so happy now.
We lived in a second floor, my downstair neighbours had a cat, and she ocasionally climbed the walls, crawled into my bed and slept with me. Miss her.

We have a gigantic orange lump who I swear weighs as much as our child. He appeared after we rescued 2 kittens. He has a permanent limp and is a huge cat. After weeks of getting to know him, he let my then 2 year old pat him. He's now the grumpiest overlord of the bottom of our bed, whom I affectionately refer to as Fat Boy.
We have coyotes that eat the indoor/outdoor cats here. Seeing cats outside makes me nervous now.
We live too close to the highway for us to ever let our cats out, so I share your concern.
Load More Replies... We had a cat show up to our back door a few weeks ago. It would sit and cry at the door but run off when we approached. It put food and water out and posted on nextdoor and Facebook. Thought we'd found the owner but not so. It hung around for a few days and reappeared about a week later. Haven't seen it since. A different cat showed up the other day but only long enough to p**s our cats off. Lol
How does this happen? We have a greyhound I guess she must scare all the cats away before they enter the home. I have never had a cat come inside. Interesting!
There was one cat, a tabby who I affectionately referred to as 'Tigerstripe' (I love the Warriors series). She'd come to visit me about 3 times during the summer but sadly she stopped showing up. She loved being pet and was super friendly so I think she was someone's cat. Opened the door to grab my phone and she waltzed in like she owned the place! I miss her and I really wish she'd come to visit me again...
I've named my current NMC Mr. Pickles after the white cat from Hawaii Five-O. He's a stray with health issues. It took months before he would let me pet him. He refuses to live inside. I'll continue to feed him.
It is my greatest hope that someone took in my sweet Katmandu. He was an outdoor kitten whose brother we managed to get inside and adopt. He was slower to warm up, and used to freak out if I brought him in and closed the door. While he remained an outdoor cat, he would come running when he saw me, and we would cuddle outside. He also started to come inside for visits. I put him out one day after he hissed at a kitten we had taken in and Katmandu never came back, our 5 year relationship was over. A neighbor across the street moved out about this time. I'm hoping she took him with her.
