As silly goofballs, dogs have got the charisma it takes to provide us with top-tier meme content. As domesticated pack animals, they have the social skills to become heckin’ friends and even serve some people as trained therapeutic animals. The Dank Doggos (For Depressed Dudes) Facebook group unites these two concepts in spectacular fashion.
As instrumental as cats were in the genesis of meme history, dogs have had no lesser a role in the contemporary proliferation of memes. One need only to look at the doge and cheems memes and all derivations thereof - some of the greatest manifestations of canine memery.

BoredPanda also contacted the Dank Doggo page admin, Sam Horn, to hear what it's like running such a fun and successful Facebook meme page. The story of why he created the page in the first place is both heartbreaking and beautiful:
"I wanted some way to memorialize them when they begin to get old and I also was a big fan of memes/dog memes at the time. Most of my early profile/cover photos on the page include my 3 dogs. This was also during the inception of "doggo", "blep" and "mlem" dog terminology that has become a norm for dog memes. Dank Doggos Memes started to take on a life of its own and grow as I shared memes I started sharing less and less of my dogs. They passed away in 2019 as they all grew old and I keep my cover photo as them."

OMG I had two bull terriers growing up and loved them so much! I was always surprised when people were scared of them because to me they were just goofy, not so bright, cuddle bugs.

I know! At a dog show, there was a bull terrier from a stall that kept asking passers-by for attention. But no one stopped and avoided the stand. He looked like he was saying, "I don't understand, why isn't anyone stopping? Why is everyone going to see the other dogs?" It made you want to cry! 😫😭 Until a little boy stops and flatters him, saying, “What a handsome dog!" The bull terrier was so happy and licked it all over! 🤩🥰

Years ago, I got pulled over by a cop cuz I had Doors & Led Zeppelin stickers on my vehicle (it was profiling, yes, I know, but this isn't the point of the story). He thought I MIGHT have drugs. He got me out of the vehicle and said "Now, you're certain that if I get my dog out of the car, he's not gonna smell drugs??" And my immediate thought was, excitedly, "You got a dog?" Point is, I'm not scared of a dog, even to a fault. I could be having my forearm disassembled by some trained attack dog and I could see me petting it, returning a playful growl back at him.

I wish there'd be a trigger warning for the first photo. I can't bear to see animals like that. Makes me cry every time and haunts my thoughts for days. I'm glad this had a happy ending, though.

A trigger warning would just make more people look away, not just the ones that can't handle the picture. Without pictures like these to make folks aware and angry we would no doubt see a lot more of it in person. I agree it's sad but we can't hide from the bad things or the bad things get bigger.

I am a Cat Lady, and I have a 'neighborhood dog' who does this for me. She seems to guard me and my house, too. I feed and water her and am kind to her whenever I see her doing 'the job' that I never hired her to do. I do respect her for it, regard her as a friend, and feel honored that she selected me for her attention!

This is why my father (a professional videographer and lifelong musician) hates "artistic directors" (and vertical video) with the fire of a thousand suns. "NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE PICTURE BEING "EVEN"!!! YOU CAN'T HAVE TWO PEOPLE WHO PLAY THE SAME INSTRUMENT, ONE BEING BACKWARDS!!!" is something he would say. This pic is just due to the entire thing being flipped, equally rage inducing. Same thing happened to SLJ when a poster was made of Nick Fury and the eye patch was on the wrong side. Remember during the search for survivors of 9/11, when they had to have a volunteer hide and be "rescued" by the dogs, because the handlers noticed the dogs getting depressed when all they were finding were dead bodies? For the naysayers; YES, dogs, cats, any animal can get depressed. It's especially noticeable in companion animals who have bonded with their families.

My dog also only eats when we come home. If I give him some treats before leaving, he'd only focus his attention on me and would accompany me to the door and be very attentive at me, take care of the treats while I'm gone and then the first thing he does when I come home is take his treats and bring them to me. Also we went on vacation for 3 days one time but we left him plenty of food and water and he can also go outside whenever he wants to so that wasn't a problem. However the bowl was full, so that goes to show how much dogs love us and how hurt they are if you leave them. Do y'all remember those people who said dogs only love you because you give them food? Those people have no idea what it's like having a dog. Even if they do own one, it means they don't take care of them because they all show you how much they love you one way or another

It must be a pug thing to have separation anxiety. My husband and I have a 12 year old pug and she has it as well. However, she can go anywhere with my husband or the kids (if they're over. They're all grown up now) and she is so good! Doesn't bark and she listens. If I am ANYWHERE with them and she is with us, she acts like she's Cujo and ready to attack! I don't get her! She's super lovey though! She tries to guard out grand baby who's 8 months, kisses her, plays gentle with her. She's always been good with little ones... it's just me she likes to act like she is Cujo.

It's clear they were hounded by paparazzi for some time, unless you believe the NYPD is in on their "claim" as you put it. I know people have strong feelings about the royal rift, but it always saddens me how little empathy there is for a man whose mother was killed fleeing paparazzi having to deal with a similar level of harassment toward his wife, whatever your opinion of them is.

I was transferred to a tourist beach area. Taking full advantage, I'd walk the beach every morning. One morning, I ran across a friend who was vacationing and happened to be walking the beach with their small child and their dog. When I saw my friend, we hugged and began chatting about life, and I immediately began fawning over and petting their dog. They were telling me about their new house, their great job (I'm still petting and fawning over their dog), blah, blah, blah. I said, "Well, aren't you just the cutest little guy! What's your name?!" Early in my relationship with my now husband, he told me he thought he was allergic to cats. I had two cats. At first, he gave them a wide berth when he was at my house. Within a week or two, he was also down on the floor playing with them, he took over their feeding and carefully chose what brand and flavors of cat food I was supposed to buy for him to feed them, he took over their grooming, and he was constantly snuggling them on the couch. Of course, I still had litter box duty. Yeah Babe, you're allergic, sure. The crux of the issue, which I finally got out of him, was that he had only ever had dogs, and the one cat he had experience with was his stepfather's cat, who hated everybody but stepdad. My cats were the diametric opposite of that cat, they loved everybody. So they broke down that barrier of his.

Sigh. If somebody is really allergic to dogs or cats, they'll not be happily playing with them, they'd be either have their eyes swollen shut, wheezing and trying to breathe, or have a constant cough, or all three. Allergies are real, and allergies kill. This idea that "now they love dogs, so they're no longer allergic" is BS.

It's called small dog syndrome, aggressive or over exaggerated behaviors shown by smaller dogs to compensate for their size. Occasionally shown by humans as well.

also when small dogs are puppies, people think that behavior is cute and dont train them not to do it, like they would with bigger dogs. So they learn bad behavior. When small dogs were trained as puppies, they did not act that way when older.

small dogs are forced to live in a world bigger than them, where even something falling down can hurt them, so they tend to become anxious. They get agressive to compensate for the fear. For our dog, if a stranger reaches over her, she will growl, but if they put their hand under her face so she can sniff them, she's calmer.

This is my dog! He’s a St. Berdoodle, he’s 120lbs, and is the gentlest, mellowest, most polite and distinguished gentleman I have ever met. Even as a puppy he barely chewed anything up. He is basically Nana from Peter Pan.

I thought this was just my dog. She is small-medium. Whenever she sees a dog that is smaller than her she'll just let them be, but if it's her size or bigger ... Damn. I have to restrain her and put all my strength into it or I'll end up without an arm

Not to be a downer, but you should always harness and seatbelt your dogs in the car, or crate them! Unsecured dogs will go flying in an accident, even a minor fender-bender, and could get seriously injured! :(

Ha ha ha, I had an old rescue kitty, he was 15 and had lived on the streets his whole life. He hated having his nails clipped, the vet had to do it. BUT, he used to go into really really deep sleeps next to me and I was able to trim his nails when he was in one of those deep sleeps, but still growled in his sleep when I did it LOL! Omg lol. My previous rottie, Bowser, was a perfect gentleman. You could leave food out on coffee tables or anything, and he wouldn't touch. Then one day, he decided to treat himself when he was 10. My 4 y.o. niece had a pink bday cake sitting on our high kitchen table; I walked out to find 3 large bites out of the edge. Bowser was laying as far away as he possibly could be with no frosting on his face to incriminate him and looking innocent a.f., while my mom's very small dog was standing under the cake covered in pink frosting! He tried to frame my mom's dog who could not reach!!! 🤣

Sounds like it was actually the small dog to me. I had a very small dog 7 lbs. Things kept happening up high. Bread missing from the counters. Dirt thrown around from some very tall plant holders I had. Thought it must be the cat. No way he could reach. One day I'm sitting there and this tiny dog just boings up on the counter. No running start. Nothing. Some little dogs can jump really high.

We have so many pictures of birthday cakes from when we were little like that. Mom always made and decorated a birthday cake for us. Usually multi layered. After first time it happened, she would put the cake back further on counter or on top of taller piece of furniture. It became a yearly challenge between my mom and the dogs. Each year a smaller and smaller portion was able to be reached by doggy. The yearly progression of pictures were and are still so funny!! Initially doggy was able to lick lots of frosting off and even takes bites of cake at far as he could reach. Finally she was able to only lick a small area and no bites of cake. After that, mom finally won the yearly cake battle.

They are great dogs. They can be a lot of work if not trained properly. But I’ve had Danes nearly all my life and they are nearly perfect, aside from a couple health issues. Most Great Danes do fit their description of being “gentle giants”

LOL. When I was younger, our dog, a cocker-spaniel, slept upstairs in my room. He needed to go out one night and I saw my mother was still up watching TV. I put a little note in his collar saying "I need to go out" and sent him downstairs. Moments later I hear my mom laughing. Needless to say, he went potties.

The next day Jasper held his own meeting with a presentation. That presentation was a PowerPoint with one slide on it, and that slide had a link to a familiar website. When clicked, it sent us to an email, an email with perfect font and addressed to the boss of the company who was also attending the meeting. The email had one sentence, not many words but the point was clear, bold and underlined. It read "I f****n quit".

I read somewhere that dogs have been with humans for so long, and have been kind of studying us the whole time, which is why they often try to replicate our facial expressions. Normally, dogs baring their teeth would signal aggression, but humans bearing their teeth is an expression of happiness. That's why when your dog makes a face with bared teeth like this, it's not aggression, but an attempt at smiling like a human. Cool concept.

Listen, all my pets, dogs and cats, that I've had all my life, have always tuned into me and responded to my vibe. Anytime I was sad, upset, crying, they'd be right there making themselves available for me to hug, and to lick the tears off my face. They knew I love(d) them, and take/took good care of them. So they were there for me, and not only just to return the favor. They love(d) me too.

What the hell is American style bread? Our sliced bread is no thinner or thicker than others. Texas toast maybe? no one makes sandwiches from texas toast, just French Toast.

Compared to others sold here that bread is larger (meaning individual slices have larger surface area) and more exactly square shaped. On the other hand, I've never seen bread sold as French Toast here, so they're probably the different names for the same product in different locations

My boyfriend is allergic to and (was) afraid of dogs. I brought home a GSD mix puppy last year. Now my boyfriend is home-cooking meals for our dog, and is designing and building a doghouse/outdoor enclosure tailored to our dog's needs (he's neurodisabled and has a few issues) XD

I was always a cat person. Somebody abandoned an unweaned baby pup near my house & I reluctantly agreed to keep it for my husband, who I knew wanted him. 2 years later - I take the dog everywhere (he’s been camping & hiking in 5 states so far), cook for the dog, spoon feed him his daily breakfast, adopted a 2nd dog so my dog would have a dog, & then got so sad at the shelter seeing all the homeless dogs that I became a foster for our local shelter. One tiny little being changed my entire world & it is so much better!! I’ve never been happier & he is the absolute love of my life!

I dropped my puppy off for surgery and an hour later they called me. I started crying because the vets have never called me before and I thought Molag Bal had died. Turns out they just wanted permission to fix him while he was under. 😂

Better than me rushing to the bathroom because my beagle was howling. I thought something terrible had happened, but when he saw me, he just wagged his tail, smiled and howled some more. He liked the way his voice sounded in the bathroom! Luckily, he got bored and didn't do it again, at least not when I was home.

No joke. I would visit my grandma at mealtimes only, so as to eat only once. Once, I came into town to visit her in the hospital, getting there just before the end of visiting hours. "Would you share this Coke with me (as the nurse just brought her a half sized can)? If you open the drawer here, your Mom just brought me some cookies, would you like one?"
