Look, having good taste doesn't guarantee anything. I mean, it doesn’t mean people won’t appreciate your taste or that you won’t get complimented way more often than the rest of humanity, but half of the coin belongs to execution. If it is poor, this power duo of desirable traits is doomed.
But sometimes, it’s awful taste that spoils it all. Imagine having skill, patience, resources, all that it takes in the world, except lacking the taste and understanding of the whole picture in the first place. This selection is dedicated to precisely these idly hilarious instances.
Inspired by the corner of Reddit known as Awful Taste But Great Execution, it reminds us that not all product designs are great, good, or barely tolerable. Quite a good share of them don’t deserve to be put on the supermarket shelves, even if they have been produced elegantly. Psst! Previously, Bored Panda talked to the moderator of the Awful Taste But Great Execution subreddit, who was happy to share some insights about their community. Created in 2016, the online group is relatively new by Reddit standards, yet it has a solid member base of 1.5 million, which makes it a real powerhouse of the internet.
It turns out, in the beginning, the r/ATBGE community focused heavily on automotive-related posts since it was a spinoff on another subreddit. “To make /r/ATBGE more appealing to the masses, we opened up the subreddit to include things beyond autos (tattoos, fashion, décor, etc.)” And this is the point where the community really started to grow,” the representative of the moderator team told us.

As the community grew, the moderator team grew too, establishing further and more refined rules for the community. “Now we are here and things are still looking good. We continue to add new subscribers each day, which is a good thing (considering we all do this for free).”
The creator of the also subreddit told us that the subreddit is essentially documenting things of all kinds that “display quality craftsmanship in the least elegant way possible.” The stuff is gaudy, tacky, overdone, and otherwise tasteless, but sometimes, when the work is done well, “you won't know whether to love it or hate it," they explained.

I have been a Nail Tech all of my adult life - so far. This is tame compared to what you would see at Nail Shows. Yup - just like Auto Shows, Gemstone Shows - etc. etc. Florida - they used to hold massive shows and "artwork" like this would be entered in a "contest". The work was done, the wearers of said nails sat at a long table with their hands under a curtain to be judged by a panel who walked up and down, marking points for this and that on each contestant. It was a really big deal and a hundreds of people always showed up. It was like any show - the winner, runner-up, 3rd and 4th place. Not just for notoriety, but the winner also received a huge check. I don't remember if anyone else got anything or not. And no, I did not enter. It was foolish then too. But you would be amazed at some of the creations.
