Human emotions are a funny thing; you might be feeling ecstatic one moment and become completely devastated the next. If you've ever related to that Pedro Pascal meme where his laughing face changes to a crying face in a second, you're in the right place.
The Internet has been in an interesting collective state in the past few years. We know the world is in a pretty bad place, but all most of us can do is laugh and meme about it. The "Funny and Sad" community reflects this sentiment pretty well, and here we have the newest selection from them for you to feel happy, sad, and confused by.

We might think that crying and laughter are two very different emotions. But think about it: haven't you laughed so hard that you started feeling tears fall down your face at least once in your life? Yale University psychologist Dr. Oriana R. Aragón and her team claim that it's the body's way to regulate itself.
"People may be restoring emotional equilibrium with these expressions," she explained. "They seem to take place when people are overwhelmed with strong positive emotions, and people who do this seem to recover better from those strong emotions."

And you don't have to put up a name to know who it is :(
But this list is hardly about crying from laughter, is it? It's more about things that make us feel so desperate and helpless that we feel that all we can do is cry. Sometimes, we use laughter and humor to deflect so that we don't feel as much empathy.
As psychoanalyst and author of To Heal a Wounded Heart Pilar Jennings explains, sometimes laughter is the body's way of saying "I can't deal with this." If we allow ourselves to empathize with the person or the problem on a deeper level, we might open ourselves up to the same emotion. Thus, humor acts like a protective shield.
Just Like Religion Shouldn’t Play A Factor As Well
It's male reproductive rights so of course it will be more important than women's rights 😔😑
Always. Didn't you know they don't see us as people?

Load More Replies...Actually this isn't a bad idea, and I say this as a man with 2 brothers who have 4 and 5 kids respectively and can't pay child support and live off of basically nothing. Vasectomy is reversible, too, anyway. If you can't afford to have these kids, then just get your sack tapped
While things may have changed, when I got mine in 1999, the doc said it was reversible for a while, but the chances of doing so successfully would decrease between 10 and 20 years after the procedure. So... as the meme says, we'll yes, but actually (maybe) no(t depending on time).
Load More Replies...The thing Ted Cruz is WAY TOO STUPID to understand is that the bill was **not a serious proposal**. It was a deliberate provocation by Rep. Rolanda Hollis in response to the Abortion Ban passed by the state. It was a protest coordinated with the ACLU to underline the absurdity of the government intervening in reproductive choices.
Seriously, Cruz is as stupid as he is spineless. If I was him in 2016, and Donald Trump suggested that my father killed JFK and called my wife ugly, I would have Will Smithed right in the midfle of the debate. It might have ended my presidential run, but it would have ended Trump's, too. And as a Republican from Texas, there's 0% chance that act costs him his senate seat.
Load More Replies...Minimun wage in my country is about $300, a vasectomy is about $400, so instead of mandatory vasectomies maybe fund free or cheap vasectomies. Btw, 2 years ago there was a free vasectomy campain and the hospital flooded with guys wanting one, many couldn't get it because it was a 1 day campaign.
If men could get pregnant our reproductive healthcare in general would be 1000% better
If men could get pregnant they'd be women -- unless they were brooders, like male seahorses.
Load More Replies...Men are typically the default subjects in medical research, creating standards that may not accurately apply to women. This focus on men can lead to overdiagnosis and overtreatment in men while underdiagnosing and undertreating women.Feb 22, 2024 https://www.qualityinteractions.com
If you’re going to make us have babies absolutely no matter what, then I say give ‘em all vasectomies! Next thing you know there won’t be menopause medications for hormone therapy and there won’t be anymore hysterectomies for any reason!
It was a state representative, and she was proposing it to point out the hypocritical way Republicans treated women's healthcare. She didn't expect it to pass.

I believe this is great strategy for the pro-choice movement. Let's see how the men react having the government church take away their reproductive rights. Just putting the shoe on the other foot.
THIRD child? That is just vile. Nature is burning down all around us and all Ted Clueluz can do is advocate for MORE overpopulating.
I thought that was a great idea. Also include serial impregnators and dead beat dads..
Despite the Founding Fathers insistence on separation of Church and State, it's not always upheld. Courts: defendant swears to God (defendant has to inform the court in advance if they want a secular affirmation). Euthanasia: Absolutely not. You will wither and die in pain just as God planned (only legal in 9 states and DC). Churches/houses of worship: exempt from paying taxes (which evolved into very rich mega churches). Most State Constitutions: reference God or the Divine. Christmas: the only religious Federal holiday. Christian influence on laws: Laws against adultery, polygamy, and homosexual conduct (at least the last one's been revoked). Common law: has a Christian foundation. This is why so many dumbasses in Congress and in the voting booths think the US is a Christian nation.
The Alabama Legislative is 76% Rebublican so chances of it passing are 0. Dumbass.
I agree 100% that "the government shouldn't be involved in private reproductive health choices"! But, thinking even more big-picture and long-term on a global scale, over-population is a problem that will only get worse. Of course we want people to be prosperous, but prosperity leads to population growth, which leads to strained resources and less prosperity. How do we ensure these individual reproductive freedoms and at the same time encourage ourselves, as a species, to limit the population? I have no idea what the answer is, but it's a question we should be asking.
Allowing safe and legal abortions and access to sex ed and contraception... I think that'd be a decent start.
Load More Replies...yeah. YIKES! Keep the government away from my gonads... or something more catchy
By that reasoning, a government should not be paying for abortions with tax dollars. (We do) We should allow employers to refuse to provide coverage for birth control if it goes against their religion (Catholic + other Religions) Dr's and Nurses should once again be allowed to be exempt from performing any type of medical abortion that is against their religion. Pharmacist should no longer be forced to provide contraceptives that are against their Religious beliefs. You can't have it both ways and yet you already have it mostly your way.
1. The only way the government pays for abortions is via Medicaid, provided to the poor in this country. It is healthcare. 2. Religion has no business in the workplace. If you deny women access to birth control, then you put them at risk for unwanted pregnancy. And more abortions. Can't have it both ways, sunshine. 3. Religion has no place in medicine. If you disagree with abortion, don't get a job in a place that provides them. 4. Religion has no place in a goddamn pharmacy, either.
Load More Replies...Yes, that's why it's always been relegated to the state, not the federal. And, abortions are NOT healthcare!! Only if the life of the mother is at stake can it be considered healthcare morons!
Women have had abortions for millenia. They will continue to do so regardless of the law, only in the absence of safe and appropriate *healthcare*, more women will be harmed in the process. This should not be acceptable to anyone with any sense of morality.

People also laugh when they're anxious or uncomfortable. Researchers speculate that it's how we relax in stressful situations, similar to laughter's function when we see something funny. Margaret Clark, professor of psychology at Yale University and co-author of the study "Dimorphous Expressions of Positive Emotion", also hypothesizes that it's how we let other people know that we need help to down-regulate our nervousness.

Wanting Or Being Able To Is The Issue
The "Funny and Sad" subreddit also fits in pretty well with the type of humor millennials enjoy. When we think about the TV shows, movies, and other media that we're consuming at the moment, it's hard not to notice how dark and absurd some of it is. In her article for The Guardian "'Horrifyingly absurd': how did millennial comedy get so surreal?" Rachel Aroesti points to shows like Rick and Morty, The Good Place, and BoJack Horseman.

But Elon is so cool and smart, and if I ride his meat hard enough he might notice me.
Aroesti seeks to answer the question "Why is millennial humor so weird?" and suggests that it reflects the sentiments of many young people that the world just doesn't make sense anymore. In 2017, The Washington Post offered another reason: we're becoming more rootless with the delay of marriage, kids, and home ownership, and disillusion with religion, so all that gets reflected in the comedy and the content online that we consume.
People Would Really Say That
Some MAGA types are trying to close public libraries by withholding government funding because those libraries make available ideas they don't like.
So Controversial
Democracy
Aroesti calls the shows she listed "sadcoms" and describes them as "a strain of comedy-drama shuddering under the weight of personal hardship and the idea that actual jokes are largely unnecessary." This type of humor, according to her, pierces the panic-inducing online news cycle and gives us at least some reprieve from the world going to bits.

The world would be so much funnier if people like this just got automatically deported. If I was in charge I'd make that a rule for a laugh. I remember before the Brexit vote seeing people on the news with clearly non-English accents saying they shouldn't let any more of those foreigners in. lmao

Gen Z, in turn, amp up their attraction to dark humor by laughing at their own trauma and hardships. Much of Gen Z's humor reflects their struggles with mental health conditions and the dystopic state of the world. Some say that Gen Z is the most honest generation yet: they call it as they see it.

If My Parents Gets That One Wish
My mom (80 years old) got pissed off at me the other day and screamed "I WISH I'D NEVER ADOPTED YOU!" which is extra hilarious because like... you usually have to go to a LOT of extra effort to adopt a child vs letting biology do its thing (assuming normal fertility.) It was also hilarious because she sounded like a snotty teenager yelling "YOU'RE NOT MY REAL PARENTS!!" (incidentally, I have NEVER said that to either of my adoptive parents, because they ARE my real parents.) It also really hurt. Nearly 43 years down the line, she can still cut me to the quick by telling me I'm just white trash like my biological parents and will never be good enough.

I kinda hate the boomer qualifier; I'm technically a boomer (identify as GenX - 1964), and am pretty tech savvy. I was just having this discussion about a colleague (~1993), who is most definitively NOT tech savvy. Maybe it's just more nuanced than age?

I'm currently going through something with my partner where I think it's probably going to end and one of the scariest things is that I can't really afford to live on my own. I have a decent job with the state and hardly spend money on "luxuries" but even just sticking with bare minimum it'd be so tight. So, now possibly staying in an unhealthy relationship because I literally cannot afford not to. Sorry to over share. :(
I was in that situation about 14 years ago, I just said fvck it and went for it. It was not worth the heartache so it was easier to be flat broke all the time but out of the situation. Fingers crossed for you!
