If you have to advertise that you're a nice guy, you aren't. Nice guys don't have to advertise. Besides, nice is something for other people to say about you, not for you to say about yourself.
Also, just because a woman likes nice guys and you might actually be one, it doesn't mean that she has to like you, personally. We don't choose to be attracted to or fall in love with people, it's just a hormone thing that just happens or not - would be much easier if people could actually control that.
In my experience most guys who cry about women liking douchebags over nice guys are nice only on the surface. Once you get to know them they start showing their ugly side. This kind of thing can be really psychologically taxing to deal with it, because at first you're not sure what's happening. Perhaps some women go for douchebags, because that way they know what they're getting into from the get-go.

funny story. at work, I always hold doors open for people if I happen to be passing through around the same time. It's polite, and helps counteract the 'your just the guy that never lets me do anything fun' stigma. Any how, a while ago, there was this crazy lady who stopped as I'm holding the door, standing on the outside of the building in -20 deg. F weather to let me know that I wasn't going to get her phone number for holding the door open all the time. I politely informed her that I do it just to be polite and didn't really care. In the back of my mind, I was thinking "I'm really doing it because I don't want your crazy ass standing behind me.'. (a friend in the building made the mistake of going out for drinks and ending up needing a restraining order.)

Nice guys really should be mad at the not so nice guys and full fledged assholes that have left the nice guys wondering why women can't see that. They should be mad as hell that they have to clean up the damage and mistrust women might feel because of their behavior. Nice guys should not tolerate this behavior any more than women. Nice guys need to call bullshit on these guys. I feel for all you nice guys. But you should be pissed at the guy, not the woman who you think should recognize the difference.

Humans are pretty good at self-deception. I think this kind of makes sense. It's a case of our biological evolution falling behind our cultural evolution. Just check out any nature documentary and see how the alpha males behave in almost any social species. Its not even that far back in our history when forcibly bending others to your will was considered a virtue. Conversely, I'm sure guys claim to like strong independent women, but don't really. These are only general tendencies of course and individuals differ..

The fact you think the whole "alpha" thing is even a reality when it comes to human beings is exactly the reason this sort of thing is a problem. Guess what, Peter? Humans are the most advanced species on this world because we were supposed to have moved past primitive garbage like choosing our partners based on their skillsets and physical abilities. The only reason we needed any of that before was because back then we lived as animals, in pure survival mode. I've been harassed once when I was a week from giving birth to my son. I had edema everywhere, a huuuuuge belly, and I was red from walking for an 1h (trying to get the labor to start). I was wrap in a coat Hell to big for me. I'm not sure this outfit would be 100% harassment-proofed

When I had just started to date my future hubby a male friend got his heart broken by a mutual 'friend'. I went to his house and he literally cried on my shoulder. When I returned to my then BF he got shitty and insinuated that I slept with him/shouldn't be helping him/etc. I turned to him and said that if I wanted to date my father I would live in Alabama and if he didn't think he could trust me he could leave. Whelp, we have been married for almost 18 years and he treats me like an adult...sooo, stand up for yourselves ladies!
There are still great men out there that have common sense, but sadly many of those in power positions are not such. And true feminist isn't about giving women MORE rights, but having EQUAL rights. We don't hate on men, we hate on sexist misogynistic behavior. There are those who reject feminism and those who take it too far--neither of which are good. At the end of the day, we just need to be united and push for a better future for all regardless of sex, gender, sexuality, age, race, ethnicity, or any label.

@ Maria. BS on that! Women are more likely to be texting and driving. I've seen just as many girls with lead feet ripping through the streets of my town. And last I checked..guys weren't distracted with doing their make-up or fixing their hair before getting to their destination. Insurance companies need to start equalizing car insurance.
@Maria and @Lauri. total and unmitigated B.S. I have a perfect driving record- no infractions, no accidents, no claims except the occasional windshield crack and usage of roadside when I've had a tire out. Those are hard statistics that say I'm at least as safe a driver as you are. Probably safer.

A lot of the "statistics" for car insurance don't actually exist and are based more on bias and opinion. They've now made it illegal to discriminate with car insurance based on gender. That Australian company shiela's insurance or something used to have ads about being for women and they got around it, by saying we're for you if you drive like a girl.

The cost of insurance is based on how "dangerous" the insurance company thinks you are. Statistically, men tend to take more risks, speed more and have more accidents than women. That's why their insurance is more expensive. In the same way, a private health scheme will be more expensive if you are overweight or older than if if you are young and fit. Statistics again.
I agree. What we need is not feminism but egalitarianism to remove all harmful stereotypes. I may be anti feminist but that is because I do not agree with how they approach equality.
