Have you ever found out that something you’ve believed your entire life was a bald-faced lie? I know I have. Not even once, either!

Stuff like that kinda shakes you. From there, you’ve got two options, really. The first is to accept it and move on with your life, a tiny bit wiser. The other is to deny it, building a shield of bias and comfort around you.

You’d be surprised how many people choose the latter. Keep reading to find out more about these hard-to-accept facts that many would rather ignore.

What's sad to me is that it is clear many people who claim to be Christians have never actually read and thought about the teachings in the Gospels. Yes, we are all flawed human beings. I am deeply flawed. But if you don't try care about each and every person as they are, where they are, and express that in your actions, I am not sure you know God at all. Saving (and judging) the world is God's job. Treating each other with kindness, respect, and love is ours.

That's because biological women are rarely part of any medical studies. The vast majority of medical testing is done on males. The reason for that is pregnancy. The risk of being pregnant is a high risk for additional damage. Do they get left out. Sometimes even in studies that concern majorly biological women. The pain threshold and reaction to medication is hugely different between biological males and biological females. They have different bone density and different metabolism. That's why often the doses of medications are too small for women. The studies are made with men, the dosage was tested on men, but a biological male of the same weight and height than a woman has a smaller percentage of fat in the body (to just name one of the many factors that impact the function of medicine) and thus for need less medication to treat their issues. So then the women get the dosage that would work for a boy, but is useless for them. But when a man comes, they get what they need.

Some people are so ignorant.I went from being perfectly in the middle of my weight range to being 30 kilos over it due to treatment and a slot of steroids, without those I would be dead.I have family members who see someone overweight and say mean remarks, then when I say well I'm over weight ..it's well thats because of the treatment...excuse me how do you know the person you just belittled isn't big because of treatment or an eating addiction or trauma. Why are people so ugly to each other (

Not quite accurate. Yes, there's definitely seems to be a majority bias against people who are least look to be a certain amount above the recommended weight for their size, but there were also groups that prefer it, or are at least indifferent to it. For example, "feeder and eater" relationships, sumo professionals, and societies that see being overweight as a sign of wealth. Just thought I should put in that it isn't really an "every demographic" thing, just pretty common in the average first world society.

Yep, we know so much more today about long-term metabolic changes that occur, when there's been a lifetime of poor nutrition, especially from a young age. When you live in a society with a long history of sugar price supports, and far more expansive and functionally permanent price supports for high-fructose corn syrup unto the present day, and HFCS is put into so many things these days I'm surprised it's not in toothpaste. A well- and long-sugared and -fatted colon yields an ecosystem of intestinal flora which causes very powerful cravings for yet more sugar and fat. Obesity is NOT a failing of moral character, nor a sign of either greediness or a lack of will power. It's just another blind bigotry, just like sexism, racism, homophobia, Islamophobia, etc.

There is a difference between overweight and obsese. I don't really care if someone is overweight and I believe most people feel much the same. It's only when people start getting obese that the difference in attitude starts to be noticeable. And frankly it's understandable. Once you get to the obese "milestone" your health risks from a bunch of conditions are seriously increased and you've *generally* got less energy to do stuff. Heck even "just" being overweight increases the risks. Subconsciously we pick up on it as an indicator of laziness, poor health and poor choices (even if it's not).

Congratulations!!! Don’t listen to them, you are amazing and keep it up! Again, Congratulations!!!!!!! I’m on it too and I’m nearing 30lbs. I gained over 100lbs when I was put on a high dose of steroids for months because of my colitis and just could not lose it. I’ve been trying for years and years. Doctors just said I’m fat and I need to eat less blah blah blah and didn’t believe me when I said that I do but I can’t lose anything. Finally one doctor (spine center doctor) believed me and had me tested, turns out I’m insulin resistant. Now that it’s being treated, I’ve been losing weight.

I don't think that's fair at all. I don't treat them different because I don't typically come in situations where whatever situation is happening we don't effect each other or hurt each other. I do not care how others are. None of my business and if you are happy f@cking go for it. Why are people so worried about others more than themselves? It's easier to criticize someone else.

So I am ashamed to say that I am guilty of this. Not overtly, I am genuinely polite & nice to people & know that it's within that counts, but I often have an automatic negative reaction to someone of size. I find myself ascribing qualities & attributes to a person that are unfair & biased & wrong. Mea culpa. I am working on it.

I don't know you, but when I was fat (like, 10kg fat) my knees hurt a lot, I was easily tired and sweat a lot too. After I changed my diet and lost some of this extra weight, I'm fitter, healthier, my knees don't hurt more, and I'm more confident. Being extra fat, like American-extra-fat we all see online, and don't do anything to try to mitigate it, is beyond my understanding.

People shouldn't be mistreated based on their appearances. But, let's be honest, people being overweight is NOT healthy and people need to realize this. The "body positivity" movement chooses to ignore this and glorifies obesity, telling people that losing weight is "fatphobic." Treat people with respect, but don't try to bend the truth to conform to your ideology.

Because letting yourself become obese suggests to others that you are self indulgent to a fault and refuse to take responsibility for yourself. It's similar to being around someone who's always high or drunk. It's self abuse and unpleasant to witness. Unless it's due to a medical condition, there's no excuse for it.

Also, how you're treated by your parents. My sister had unconditional love and was never psychologically, emotionally, or sexually abused. Never gaslighted, always believed (even when she lied), and always always supported. I was sexually abused, constantly told I wasn't good enough and would never amount to anything, told I was miserable, and told I was too sensitive, among so many other things. The fact that I haven't offed myself is because I have extraordinary friends and a brother who has always had my back. And I have pets. How you're raised 100% impacts your level of success.

It was common for people to live into their 70s and 80s. The reason we get “average lifespan” data with such low numbers is because so many babies died, skewing the average values downward.

And those long a*s fighting sequences are absolute c**p. Nobody takes that many hits to the head, kidneys, ribs, etc and keeps on standing.

There are four main types of sugar - fructose, lactose, sucrose and glucose. Each has their own issues.

Politicians need enemies to divert attention from the real issues and to justify the budget. Up untill the 90's it was 'the Russians', then it was 'the terrorists' ,now it's 'the Chinese'

If shaving made hair grow back thicker then shaving would be a cure for baldness.

While recovering from my hysterectomy in prison, I was in the hospital section. I'd been in prison about eight years then. A nurse said he was surprised I was still locked up. I told him I still had a few years to go, then I said, "But I deserved what I got." He said that in all his years working there, he's never heard anyone say that before.

Members Of This Online Group Are Annoyed People Won’t Accept These 35 Facts That Are 100% True That most people would do some pretty awful things for money if presented the opportunity. People would like to believe that they have strong morals but if presented with a button that would kill 10 random people in the world in exchange for 1 million dollars, many would press it. I would guess at least half of the population would. And many would press it multiple times. But not many people would actually admit that they would press it if given the opportunity to. Maybe I am just too cynical and not many would press it, but this hypothetical situation is something I think about a lot.

Of course I would press a button for a million dollars regardless of 10 people randomly dying as a consequence. We have a lot of people, they are dying randomly at high rates on their own as I'm typing this and nobody's paying me anything. This is a morality question that gets trotted out and is completely meaningless.

Oof this is a huge one and very subtle compared to most stuff commented in here so far.

We love to think we are creating this world of diversity and inclusion, but once you scratch the surface it is all just a facade, tokenisation all the way down. Even the people preaching those values tend to do so from the comfort of a highly homogenous group.
