Cats Don't Think Of Us As Humans. Instead, They See Us As Equals, Just Like Other Cats

Close-up of a relaxed orange and white cat showcasing interesting animal facts for casual conversations about pets.

By nudging you with their heads (bunting) they're actually greeting you as they would another member of their cat family. This means that to them we're probably the ugliest, biggest, and clumsiest cats they've ever seen but they accept you into their family and love you anyways.

I read -ages ago- they think of us as over sized, slightly incompetent kittens. Which is why they bring us prey to practise on.

I don't think there is any way this can be verified. It seems quite unlikely. Cats know we are their servants. They're not dumb.

In fact, they see us as kittens. Big, hairless kittens. That's why they bring us "presents" of dead mice, fish, birds, and lizards. And why they bite our arms when we rub their bellies. That's how they teach kittens to defend themselves.

Definitely not true, but funny anyway. There are spectrum of sounds and quite complex behaviour(s), which are reserved only for communication with humans. Normally cats do not "miau" to other cats, except for their mothers. Cats do not fight with humans "cat style", etc. But cats ale lovely anyway.

Sea Otters Hold Hands While They’re Sleeping So That They Don’t Drift Apart

Actually, this is NOT true. I was in Monterey CA and met with marine biologists, several of whom have been studying otters in the wild and the Monterey Bay Aquarium for literally decades and said it was not true. I was so saddened but wanted to dispel the myth here too. One biologist said she has seen the behavior one time in 28 years and only in captivity. What they do instead, they wrap themselves and their babies into the kelp forests to keep from drifting off, or to keep the babies in one place while they hunt. They are very maternal and loving, they just don't really express this particular behavior. Sorry

I live in Alaska and have seen Otters do this many times. They will sometime form large groups called rafts of many otters to sleep and to avoid getting separated in the rougher waters. Sorry, your biologist "expert" needs to get out more.

My dog actually has a particular growl he uses to tell me he wants to play. He'll usually sit right in front of me and growl at me. I growl back at him and keep reading/working and we keep doing that for a few minutes before he gets fed up and starts chewing on my foot. At that point I give in and plat with him. Sometimes we just randomly start barking at each other for the fun of it.

A dog is just as likely to sneeze for the same reason you would... because of an allergy or other nasal irritation. Have had a number of dogs and been around friends dogs ad never seen one sneeze for any other reason than that.

When A Baby Elephant Is Born, Other Mothers In The Social Group Will Trumpet To Celebrate Or Announce The Baby's Arrival

Elephants tend to stay in close "family" groups for their whole lives, which are generally made up of female elephants (the males often leave the group to go mate, but sometimes group up with other solitary males). So other female elephants are often present for new births.

Dogs Can Tell When You're Due To Come Home By How Much Of Your Scent Is Remaining In The House

Close-up of a brown dog lying down with a focused gaze, illustrating interesting animal facts in casual conversations.

Ever wondered how your dog seems to be able to tell time accurately? If you or someone you live with has a daily routine, your dog might go linger by the door or start looking out the window right before their human is due home because they can smell how much your scent has deteriorated in your absence.

I assume this applies when their human is on a regular schedule. If they’re gone for different amounts of time every day, with no distinguishable pattern, there would be days when the amount of scent wouldn’t be a reliable predictor.

Dolphin Mothers Sing To Their Babies While They're In The Womb

Two sharks swimming near the water surface, illustrating interesting animal facts in their natural ocean habitat

According to a study at the University of Southern Mississippi, dolphin mothers will make a "signature whistle" for the benefit of their calf while it's in the womb. This whistle is thought to act as a sort of "name" for the mother, allowing the calf and mother to locate each other easily once it's born. After the calf is born, other nearby adult dolphins will whistle less, likely to help the calf learn and use the right whistle.

I have only learnt it last year and read many documents about dolphin behaviours. They can rape anything, one dolphin filmed raping a dead fish and another one an empty can. They are really nasty animals. Some of them tried to rape their caretakers in the dolphine pools. I know, unbelievable, for me too. They don't have a grin on their face, we perceive it as a grin.

When Dogs Appear In Movies And TV, Sometimes They Have To Have Cgi Tails Because They Wag Too Much During The Scene

Wolf standing in a forest setting, showcasing interesting animal facts for casual conversations about wildlife.

This happened during filming of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, when some husky dog actors didn't look "menacing" because of their happily wagging tails. It's possible that they were wagging because they knew they were doing a good job at their acting tasks. The same happened while filming "White Fang" and "Game of Thrones".

It looks hilarious when they do it during a horror movie or a drama though. 🤣 In the Spike Lee movie, "Summer of Sam" there's a scene where the demonic dog commands Berkowitz to kill. This is already hilarious to begin with due to Berkowitz's over dramatic acting, the music, and the voice used for the dog. However, the icing on the cake is when the dog starts excitedly wagging his tail after Berkowitz agrees to kill. Who's a good demonic doggy? 🤣

Your Dog Actually Loves You, Not Just Because You Give Them Food And Walks

Happy Dalmatian dog lying on grass with tongue out, illustrating interesting animal facts for casual conversations.

Studies that measured oxytocin levels, heart rates, and other biometrics showed that levels of bonding hormones rose and heart rates fell in both humans and their dogs after interacting with each other. In other words, when you pet your dog, both of you produce more of the same hormone in your brain that makes you fall in love with people, and both of you relax more.

Yes, they do. Their love is not as complex (and complicated) as human love, but it is an incredible bond. That is why it is so deeply despicable when people torture their own dogs. Just like babies, puppies are hardwired to bond with their humans. And just like little children they keep loving us, no matter how much they are hurt. They CANNOT leave, because they believe that without their pack they die. There are a few breeds and individual dogs who have the independence to eventually defend themselves, but most dogs are fairly defenseless against cruelty form their owners. And, now, I must go and cuddle my dog who has known nothign but love her whole life.

Dogs too. I've moved around with mine 3 times already. First house where he was raised, he would bark. Second one was an apartment and we begged him not to bark (because it's quite ultrasonic) so he started to murmur and talks and did that with the other good boys at the park. In our new home, eeeeveryone has a dog in the block, and all of them tend to howl instead of bark. Mine never howled, until now. He's a quick learner ;P

Tigers Are Unable To Purr, So In Order To Show Affection, They Close Their Eyes And "Chuff" Because Closing Their Eyes Means They Leave Themselves Vulnerable

Cheetahs are the largest "big cat" that can pur all larger such as lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars can not. A length of tough cartilage runs up the hyoid bones to the skull. This feature prevents purring.

While big cats cannot purr, they are able to roar... unlike smaller cats. These abilities are mutually exclusive in cats (to my knowledge).

Hundreds Of Trees Become Seedlings Every Year Because Of Squirrels Forgetting Where They Buried Their Food

Squirrel perched on a tree branch eating, showcasing interesting animal facts for casual conversations about wildlife.

According to Rob Swihart, a professor of wildlife science at Purdue University, gray squirrels bury their food (nuts, acorns, etc.) all over the place but often forget to dig them back up. Those buried seeds have a good chance of becoming full-grown trees.

True story. I was golfing one day when a squirrel ran up to the tee I was on but at the other end. He buried a nut in something like five seconds. I watched the entire thing and when he was done he packed down the earth and grass. I studied it after he left and knew exactly where he buried it but I could not see any sign that the ground was ever disturbed. He put back exactly as it was. (Or she... probably....)

Rule by thumb, a lot of animals have better eyesight than us. It's true for birds, but also for many fish and reptiles. The theory is that in the age of the dinosaurs, mammal ancestors lived underground, and their eyesight deteriorated but their sense of smell and hearing improved. Humans have improved eyesight to other mammals, but it's still a long shot from the good eyesight available in the animal kingdom. Don't assume you're better at recognizing things with eyesight than "lower" animals. Our eyes are still catching up from the evolutionary setback.

My beta fish Megaladon and l , had a rough start when he first came to my home. He had a big attitude and would try to escape his aquarium quite a bit. I had two other fish and Mega was my least favorite. 5 years later, he was the last one left and our bond was amazing. He passed a year ago, but I'll never forget the surprising and beautiful relationship we developed 😭🥰

I used to have guinea pigs, and when they pop-corned it was the cutest thing ever! They just get so excited they just pop their little bodies. And whenever I open the fridge and rustled a plastic bag, they would just start making their little noises because they knew they were getting veggies.! Love and miss you Mr. Jingles!

    Sea Horses Get "Married"

Two spotted seahorses close together underwater, showcasing interesting animal facts in marine life.

Seahorses tend to be monogamous and will intertwine their tails to stick together while floating through the ocean. Is it because they’re cute and loving, or is it just an evolutionary aspect of their species? The truth is, seahorses are pretty bad swimmers and spend a lot of time hiding from predators. Finding a mate for life boosts their chances of successful reproduction.

So they take dust baths like chickens and such. Used to own around 30 chickens and ducks, i always enjoyed watching them do that. It helps to kill parasites and the like.

Damselflies are insects of the suborder Zygoptera in the order Odonata. They are similar to dragonflies, which constitute the other odonatan suborder, Anisoptera, but are smaller, have slimmer bodies, and most species fold the wings along the body when at rest. You know there are male ladybugs as well, its just a name they have for them
