His work sure cured me! Well , maybe not cured per say but I was ulcer free for several years after taking his prescribed medications.
I was a recipient of the treatment in the early 90's. I was very happy to find out that first of all, there was a reason why I was having severe hunger pangs even after I'd just eaten and second, my symptoms were treatable.
A friend of the family got a degree in psychiatry. He was trying to discover why he developed ulcers in high school and why he couldn't cure himself. As a retiree, this discovery caused his medical doctor to prescribe the antibiotic. Ulcers cleared up. He felt very strange that his entire life was not what he thought it was.
Just imagine lying there blissfully unaware and in comes Oscar for a snuggle.
People who are that old know they are dieing. How I know I've seen it, they because calm a lot of the time. The cat knows because they become calm and there smell changes it's undetectable to humans so the cat goes to keep the company in their final moments
Load More Replies...Cats are sensitive animals that like warm places. When people is in process of dieing, their metabolism, even if shutting down, provoque a slight rise on normal temperature (evident when there are active infections or autoimmune processes) So cats can feel it and get attracted to the heath. Oscar is not predicting anything, he is just reacting and picking the warmest cozy place.
Didn't know that Dr House episode (S5 E18) was based on a real death-predicting cat!
First, we were curious to know what draws these horror experts to creepiness and the frightening.
"It started for me as a kid! I started reading very young with Goosebumps & Stephen King, and it snowballed from there," shares Christopher Higgins, aka Bearded Film Guy, host of the Beyond the Blood Podcast and horror and Blu-ray collector.
"The draw for me is the ability to face our fears safely. We know it’s not real and can’t hurt us, but we’re so attached to the emotional risk of the story, it still creates a thrill that sits with us long after we’re done absorbing the material."
And how can any gun rights fanatic continue to demand easy access to guns?
Absolutely traumatic for the kids, still. I don't know how the kids managed to go back to the school a week later without crying in fear everyday.
It was traumatic for every parent of a school aged child in Connecticut that day. All of the schools went immediately into lock down and both state and local police were sent to every school, "just in case". My 2 kids were in kindergarten and 2nd grade at a different school, but it was traumatic nonetheless. At pickup time, there were a few parents that hadn't heard about what had happened at Sandy Hook, and were shocked by the police presence. Some burst into tears when it was explained to them why. We were scared, horrified, and confused.
Load More Replies...And there are still some who claim this was a hoax. Our children became second class to guns.
Alex Jones deserved to be publicly flogged and should be till he pays up
That's not the sort of thing any kid should be learning at the school. What kind of world is this?
I want to thank Xenomurph, Iseefractals and Mate B for having a civil discussion of gun control. We can differ and still be civil, and it happens rarely enough that it should be noted when it happens.

Load More Replies...Kayleigh Dobbs, horror author and owner of the horror book, movie, and game review website Happy Goat Horror, also tells Bored Panda that she became interested in horror during her childhood.
"I don't know for sure what first drew me into horror, but I think it's because scary stories have a tendency to champion the underdog. I've loved horror ever since I was a small kid - I was introverted and bullied quite a lot, and always felt lonely and like an outsider. I remember reading Matilda and really identifying with parts of her character (and I consider that a horror story from Matilda's perspective)," she says.
"There was a show called Are You Afraid of the Dark that I really loved because each episode always featured an ordinary kid a bit older than me, usually someone without many friends, who was overcoming some sort of evil, and I think I found that comforting. As an adult, I love horror for the same reasons, plus I truly believe that of all genres to read and watch, it gives us the most well-written female characters."
And yet "god" made him go through those hardships when he shouldn't have had to.

Even though we often seek fiction to live out our fears, sometimes reality can be much scarier, and the horror experts completely agree.
"For as scary as fiction can be, it’s never nearly as frightening as reality. There are trends in horror film cycles that coincide with real-world events (example: the rise in “torture p✭rn” after 9/11). People use the horror in fiction oddly as a safe escape from the terrors of the real world," says Higgins.
As they should. I don't like the "sue happy" culture we have going on in the world today, but sometimes you have to protect the truth.
Load More Replies...I have been interested in the Titanic since I was a child. I have read the survivors’ own stories many times. I followed the discovery of the wreck very closely. Because of all that, I looked forward to watching the movie Titanic, especially when I heard how much the director was also interested in it. What a huge f*****g disappointment that POS flick was! There was absolutely NO reason to fabricate any personal stories to make it interesting (yeah, the “draw me like your French girls” b******t, only put in to pander to the pervs who need nudity to make them actually watch the film). The REAL stories are incredibly interesting, and in many cases really exciting, enough to have been included in the script. And they did other real people dirty too, like Molly Brown being bossed around by some sailor (not even an officer) and actually taking it! I walked out of the theatre thoroughly disgusted, and have never watched that s**t again. People give me a load of guff about hating the movie, but stop when I start telling them some of the real stories.
The real story was quite good enough. I didn't mind them inventing stuff from scratch, but using a real person's name and making him a villain was unnecessary and disgusting. Especially as he still had living descendants.

"That's another reason why I love horror so much. The real world is full of terror, and sometimes being immersed in a world full of zombies or ghosts is preferable. Emerging from Barrow after a 30-day siege from bloodthirsty vampires makes the real world feel not quite as threatening sometimes," Dobbs agrees.
Didn't help my stepson, either. Thanks to fúcking LSD we have a gaping Christian Wagner shaped hole in our family. Just stay far away from the "funny, harmless" LSD, folks. They just used doses of LSD in their peer group, he and his friends, never ever alone so they could help each other if anyone had a bad trip. Sad that we have made only small bits of progress against this condition over the last 50 years, while at the same time marketing about 30 new antidepressants, plus new treatments like rTMS, light therapy, microdosing, gut biome treatments, and so on. I don't begrudge the progress in mood disorders, I just wish there was at least a bit more help for the much more severe conditions like this one (a close family member has it)....
Antidepressants won't do a thing for schizophrenia; you need anti-psychotic medications. And yes, there have been some new medications for schizophrenia, but it is difficult to treat because of side effects and the fact that not all schizophrenics are managed by the same medications. Sometimes, nothing will help. New research supports the idea that if schizophrenics are taught how to interpret their hallucinations and understand what they really are, they can better function in life even when they continue to have hallucinations. Peyote is being tried as a way to introduce them to a hallucinogen as cause so they can logically apply what they learn to their own experiences with the hallucinations that arise due to the disease.

For Higgins to consider something creepy or unsettling, it has to be grounded in reality. "People are always the scariest, no matter the creature you make up. Humans are capable of both beauty and terror, and while we hold as much faith in morality as we can, the people at the helm of the story, their involvement in the terror, is always the most frightening," he told us.
They specifically kidnap albino children, and cut off fingers, toes, arms, etc as good luck charms. They’re also sacrificed. Barbaric. Non-albino children who may be different in some way (appearance, behavior, etc), or who may come from a family the village is shunning, could be accused of being born witches, and left to fend for themselves and starve on the street. F*****g religions and other mystical beliefs (not just Christianity, though that’s one of the worst of the bunch), and the inhumanity they promote. Labeling certain types of people as not human and therefore not deserving of kindness, care, and consideration, then treating them worse than they treat their livestock.

The rate of suicides ia actually declining since 2012, so that surprises me. The gouvernment is making quite an effort to do something about it. Suicdes are in general very, very high in south korea for various reasons. It is a cultural thing for elderly people to rather kil themselves than to become a burden for their children. This is sadly not very prominent in media, it is only news if some kpop singer did it. It is changing but slow. Still, i do not believe it increased the following year, i never heard that before, from what i heard was that it did help a bit
Also the insane pressure on students to perform well in their exams.

If they’re there walking the bridge, they will see people who look like they’re contemplating jumping, and prevent them from doing it. That would be a much better use for their funding than some of the pet projects and other useless stuff some police departments waste money on (a good example here in the States is police departments in small towns buying f*****g Army surplus tanks. They don’t need it, but they want the new toy to play with, even if it never gets used.)

Load More Replies...Meanwhile, Dobbs says, "For me personally, something is really scary if on first glance it looks normal, but on closer inspection, something is just a bit...off. Stories of demonic possession, body thievery, and changelings (eeeeee especially changelings!) tend to really frighten me. In general, I think the best, most effective horror gives you a protagonist you feel strongly about. That way, if the scary thing doesn't scare you, you'll at least be afraid for the character."
Why we need regulations, part 30 trillion. But people never learn
Load More Replies...It wasn't cost constraints; it was because people thought they would take up too much space on the decks. (When they started building the 3 sister ships, J. Bruce Ismay and others specifically said that money would be no object.) Also, the regulations only required 16 lifeboats (the amount of lifeboats were based on tonnage, not passenger numbers, but had not kept up with the larger and larger ships being built) and Titanic had 20.
That was why they actually had four extra boats, the collapsibles on the roof of the officer's quarters.
Load More Replies...Which only compounded the problem. There simply weren’t enough to accommodate every passenger without capsizing. In fact, there were less than half the number of lifeboats necessary for every passenger, including the men and the crew, to have a seat on one and survive. Had there been 46 lifeboats, instead of less than 20, so many more people could’ve survived and the sinking would’ve been a shame and a substantial loss, but it would not have been a tragedy.
Load More Replies...It wasn't money as much as aesthetics. The passengers were paying for scenery not stumbling over lifeboats that would "never even be needed."
Actually, the thinking here was that the ship WAS the lifeboat. Had they steered into that iceberg head on, some stokers would have met their demise, but the ship would have survived.
Again, the Titanic did not have any such known "vulnerabilities". That a myth made up by sensationalists. He likely wanted more rowboats, because, even though the Titanic was likely the safest ship of the period, there is no such thing as "unsinkable", despite the advertisements of the company, and therefore a ship needs enough lifeboats for every passenger. The titanic sank because of series of events, each unlikely, but possible.
I respectfully disagree. Is bars Brunei's Great Eastern was much closer than the Titanic and was built fifty years earlier. If you want to spout information, get your facts right first. I have been a fairly well known Titanic expert for twenty plus years. You do not know whereof you speak.

Load More Replies...Something I will never forget is visiting the death camps in Poland. Seeing the huge piles of children's shoes at Auschwitz is soul crushing. But the Germans didn't want to waste the leather.
I haven't visited Auschwitz as my great-grandparents and two youngest children were m******d there so I don't think it's right I voluntarily go to a place they obviously never wanted to go. I have seen many things in Yad Vashem in Israel. Breaks my heart even thinking about what my family went through.

he showed up at her hospital room later with a lot of merchandise that was signed by the team and gave it to her grand son, who was with her when this happened.
Lastly, we couldn't let the horror experts go without asking about the most unsettling true story or fact they know.
"I did a tour of Eastern State Penitentiary when I was 18 years old during the day. There’s a hallway blocked off to traffic due to structural issues, but the guide told us a story of a riot that took place in that cell block and about the guards and prisoners who lost their lives," Higgins recalls.
"As we looked past the waist-high blockage, an overwhelming feeling of unease swept over me that I could not shake. It felt like I was being watched no matter where I went within those walls. To this day, 16 years later, it’s the scariest experience I’ve ever faced."
It’s a tragic, yet fascinating story. There were 16 survivors after more than two months stranded in freezing conditions. I highly recommend the book “Alive” by Piers Paul Read https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alive:_The_Story_of_the_Andes_Survivors

Yes, she kept doing it even was staff asked her not too, including smiling at him. Gorillas don't smile like we do, to him it was an act of aggression.
Load More Replies...I can't find anything that suggests the woman thought her and the gorilla were "destined to mate." She simply adored the gorilla. She had been visiting him since he was 4 months old and thought they had a special "bond" due to the eye contact they made. She also believed he "smiled back" at her. Even after staff warned her to stop making eye contact with the gorilla, she continued. Eye contact is portrayed as aggressive in primates and he thought she was challenging him. But, nowhere does it say she had some ideation that they were "in love" or that she had an unhealthy obsession with him. He was just her favorite animal at the zoo.
"Poetic license" is a poor excuse for inaccuracy.

Her story does have a happy ending! Of course, I pray the dogs were rescued as well. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxana_Malaya
She was ultimately rescued and went on to live a normal life, though she never lost the ability to run around on all fours and would do it to surprise people. So that's cool.
She wasn't "raised by stray dogs". She was raised by neglectful parents and spent most of her time with her parents' dogs. Since the dogs were the only ones she interacted with, she picked up a lot of their behaviors. Stray dogs will k**l and likely eat an infant that they find.
Most feral children (children who have been raised primarily by animals) lose their ability for normal human social interaction and fluid speech permanently. There’s a window when all this stuff develops. If you miss it you’re screwed. Which is why early childhood intervention programs are so important. If you blindfold a kitten, they will be permanently blind. Not because there is anything wrong with their eyes. But because the brain prunes away all unnecessary connections. Leaving no brain region to interpret the images.
Dogs probably loved her more and treated her better than her parents. Sad. We don't deserve dogs.
The most unsettling fact Dobbs knows is about the effect of toxoplasmosis (which one can get from undercooked meat or contact with cat excrement) on rats.
"It's caused by a parasite that is thought to somewhat disarm the instinctual fear that rats have of cats and even make them attracted to the smell of cat wee so that they're more likely to be driven towards them, so the cats can eat them," she explains
"The parasite can't reproduce in rats, but it can in cats, and it wants to live! I found this scary because...what if that parasite evolves to have a similar effect on humans, which will then somehow kick off the zombie apocalypse?! I spend quite a lot of time - too much, some might say - imagining things that could kick off the zombie apocalypse."
If you believe in the death penalty, she should have got it

Dobbs signed off by saying that horror is worth everyone's time, especially in books. "A lot of people have this idea that horror is nothing but blood, guts, and gore, and that simply isn't true. There are so many subgenres (I'm not particularly a fan of the bloodier type of horror fiction). I think horror as a whole is the most honest about how people behave, and it serves to strengthen a person's sense of empathy because of that. Especially these days, we could all do with a little more empathy!" she concludes.
Well there go my dreams of domesticating cute baby hippos. Oh wait, just remembered they have always been ferocious. Save it and set it free.
Mini hippos, on the other hand, would be pretty cool animals to have patrolling your yard.
Load More Replies...Aside from mosquitoes and humans, hippos are the most dangerous animals in Africa.
Let us all repeat together: Wild Animals Are Not Pets. For those who are particularly obtuse - anybody who takes an animal which is known to be deadly as a "pet" has a high likelihood of being killed by said pet. That means crocodilians, big cats, large constrictors, chimps, chimps again for good measure, again chimps since the will not only attack you, but also tear off your face and genitals, back again to big cats, and anybody who is brainless enough to think that a hippo is a pet deserves to be removed from the gene pool.

Hydrogen burns at a very low temperature. So it can explode, but is unlikely to burn off somebody's hair. It is explosive and it can ignite more flammable materials. BTW, in the Hindenburg, it was the shell that was burning hot - hydrogen flames are invisible and likely not hot enough to melt the frame.
Just googled it. Hydrogen burns at "2,045 °C (3,713 °F) in air", hotter than natural gas.

Build a toll booth around him. He can stand there, the community will make money, and they can use the savings from not having to pay for his upkeep. I sure wish we knew what was going on in his head.
I would just like to add that lots of psychopaths don't "look" like psychopaths.

Pretty much. I grew up on the rez. A few boarding schools still exist, I went to one in NW New Mexico that is run by a Christian organization. BIA schools absolutely still exist and are so underfunded that kids have to take their desk from one class to the next.

Ok...I know Evel Knievel is probably not known by most people born after 1990ish, but if Evel advised you something was too dangerous...man, you really should have listened. It's like a polar bear telling you not to get in the water because it's too d**n cold.
Evel Knievel did hundreds of motorbike stunts and had nearly all of his bones broken, so he knew what he was talking about.

That authorities on both side made it illegal, then started fining them, then started jailing them, and then had to aggressively target them. Idiots.
The chances of being killed by a swan are surprisingly high, actually. Swans are strong enough to break human bones.

He wanted the swan for lunch. It proves that you can't have your kayak and eat it.
I've been chased out of a river by a swan, I don't recommend it! One of the reasons I'm not a big fan of birds.
Not always, but frequently. BFH works more than you'd think

It's more weird than creepy. I've come across stranger on late, late night TV. Some channels would just not have any shows lined up and some slots, I'm assuming, were rented temporarily, or something would just fill in the time slot. One night, about 4am, there was a game show looking thing, with 3 people swinging on a rope, but the rope was swinging them, not the people. They were just hanging on. These people, all young adults, were swung into a banner or poster that showed a gaping mouth. These people were also being lowered and dunked into some sort of mud or slime. They also weren't looking like they were having a good time. I could hear a woman off camera talking to someone, seemingly gleefully. It seemed like a sorority hazing thing they decided to air on TV. Only watched for a couple minutes. Never saw it on again. It stuck with me for years because of how random, disturbing and bizarre it was. Sorta curious to know what was really going on and where those people are now.

Wikipedia: "...[he] s****************d, m******d, and mutilated at least fifty-two women and children between 1978 and 1990 in the Russian SFSR, the Ukrainian SSR, and the Uzbek SSR. Chikatilo confessed to fifty-six murders; he was tried for fifty-three murders in April 1992. He was convicted and sentenced to death for fifty-two of these murders in October 1992, although the Supreme Court of Russia ruled in 1993 that insufficient evidence existed to prove his guilt in nine of those killings. Chikatilo was executed by gunshot in February 1994."
One thing that complicated the case was that the state had declared that serial killers were a product of capitalism and not possible under communism. So, it took way too long for the cases to be allowed to be investigated as related. And the main investigator's appeals to contact the FBI for help were initially denied. So, many of the murders might have been prevented if not for the interference of the state and their desire to save face.
The HBO original film from 1995, "Citizen X," does an excellent job detailing how this case was solved, especially with how it portrayed the lead detective, played by Stephen Rea. The real man had a mental breakdown because he worked on the case continuously, no breaks, for years until Chikatilo was caught. It was only later, when Soviet officials finally asked for help from the FBI, did they learn about how detectives should be rotated so that the psychological strain doesn't break them.
Lýnch mob mentality is the enemy of justice.
