Genius designers are obviously made, not born - that's the thought that's likely to pop into your head after scrolling through the popular subreddit Crappy Design. Here you can find the most artistically deprived and esthetically sinister design fails, which will have you wondering just how on Earth any of these product design ideas were allowed to get made.
Obviously, not everyone was meant to be an artistic virtuoso, but these epic fails are so 'out there' and impractical that it's hard not to judge them while rolling on the floor laughing. Here are the bad designs that we think are the most interesting and the funniest. So scroll down, upvote your favorite funny photos and let us know if you've seen designs worse than these! And in case you're still hungry for some funny fails from backward-handed designers, check out more of Bored Panda's lists here, here, here, here, and here.

The Imperial System
The metric system makes so much more sense, why the imperial system is still used is beyond me.
Tradition. One reason to do stupid things is "because we have done it always that way". It doesn't matter if something else is better. It took us centurys (and we are not done yet) to realize that women are not lesser humans. But tradition says women have voting right in their household. That should be enough.
Load More Replies...But this is actually the best system for storage, since sorting the dates alphabetically also sorts them by age
Load More Replies...The UK still uses the Imperial System, partially, anyway. Roads, for example, still use miles, as do most railroads (excluding the London Underground). Body weight is measured is stones & pounds (pounds & ounces for young children)
The UK still irritates the s**t out of me for this totally idiotic usage, if you are going metric, do it properly , not some half baked approximation of it. The now defunct Jeremy Clarkson (Twatson) kept on whining about " What's that in Church of England" when presented with a metric statistic. Dumb twat, like the rest of the UK, get with the f*****g programme folks, Miles, feet, inches, pounds, shillings and pence, stones and pounds and ounces, acres etc. only exist because you idiots refuse to move into the 21st century, because you think it "Quaint and uniquely British"to have you little idiosyncratic "We're British and this is the way we have always done it, so f**k you very much" News for you: You and Boris, are basically the European equivalent laughing stock of Donald in the US. I an old colonial, so don't get some silly idea that this is a US or Brit bash. Ahh what the f**k, actually it is. Stupid countries with stupid systems.
Load More Replies...I'm slowly adopting the metric system. I've had a metric clock for a few years now.
So what? People use whatever measure they find convenient. Beads have always been made in mm sizes, and necklaces have always been measured in inches, so nobody bats an eye when a catalog offers a necklace "8 mm x 18 in". Everybody knows what size that is and it would be inconvenient to try to change the system. Likewise, gold is measured in toz or grams and there is zero confusion. Gemstones are measured in carats, and most people have no clue how many carats are in an ounce (141.75). Furthermore, nobody cares. The carat is a convenient measure and that is the end of it.
Because it's idiotic to hang on to a system that no one else uses, "just because". And no, I don't know what an inch is compared to cm, or pound or ounce compared to grams and kilos. And everyone uses carat, so that's just a bad example
Load More Replies...Also Telecommunication standards are completely different from the official standards used in the EU (+ large part of the rest of out globe). And don't forget the difference in the use of dots & comma's in numbers! Entire systems have collapsed due to people not knowing this :-/
More like messed up educational system- as a kid of the 70's we were taught the metric system- for about a minute- and then the "switch to metric" initiative was abolished in '82 by Reagan... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metric_Conversion_Act
Load More Replies...Ok, but to me..."I was born June 3rd, 1986" sounds better than "I was born the 3rd of June, 1986"...or am I still saying it wrong on the second part?
I think it's just because you are used to that system.
Load More Replies...TBH, whenever I see a date I always have to double check because I do not know what the format it is using.
This seems out of place on this list. Also, the Imperial System has nothing whatsoever to do with temperature, or the order in which day, month, and year are written. The Imperial System was created as a uniform system of trade. I can't remember the last time I bought 40 degrees of milk.
It's because they hate the French. Even us Brits (who started the Imperial system) have gone metric. Mostly.
As an American, I hate the imperial system. It's so illogical and has no constancy.
To Nia Loves Art: You are absolutely right. People in the USA are doing fine with the imperial system, but let me add that this holds true only for as long as they are not interacting with the rest of the world. You are also correct in saying that it would be a hassle to change. Quite so, but change is what we do when a better or more efficient way has been found. Take Sweden changing from driving on the left-hand side of the road to driving on the right. A non-binding referendum on the introduction of right hand traffic was held in Sweden on 16 October 1955.[1] The voter turnout was 53.2%, and the suggestion failed by 15.5% against 82.9%. However, eight years later, the Riksdag approved the change, and Sweden switched from driving on the left-hand side of the road to the right on 3 September 1967. (Listen and learn, all Brits, what can be done with a non-binding referendum!)
My only concern with the whole Metric system is the mystery surrounding the 10MM socket.
Im in canada and I prefer inches feet pounds. saying Im 178cm tall is stupid
😃😃😃😃 No normal metric system user would say "I'm 178 cm". It sounds really strange. Not stupid. Just strange.

Can not see what the fuss is about, if USA wants to be Imperial it is their business.
ui design for beginners If you are from the design field or someone who is looking to get in this field, UI Design is something that you are going to hear a lot about. Especially if you are into website making and designing, UI design is exactly what you should look for. Anything unique that your website provides, will likely draw attention to the content. But you must not forget the important parts. Your uniqueness for your website should lead the attention to the main purpose that a user is expected to fulfil. Smart Colouring Colours affect the mood of the user. The colour you choose and the way you show it on your website will speak volumes for your brand. Conclusion In the end, it’s important to remember that UI design is all about the way you represent your brand or the website. The easier it is to interact and understand the functions, the more engaging the website will be. <a href="https://imaginxp.com/courses/ux-ju

We can say the same about metric. Who says it's easier? You were raised with one so obviously it's easier for you. I was raised with Fahrenheit and it makes perfect sense. Of course being a nurse I have both systems, so guess I'm just smarter than most and balanced enough that it's all smooth sailing
actually my ex husband , a scientist, told me Fahrenheit is more accurate than Celsius and Metric is more accurate than the imperial system.. so merge the two. fahrenheit and Metric...just a thought...
Yeah, the Metric System is much better. But it was developed after the beginning of scientific era and was enforced by a brutal tyrant. The so-called Imperial System was developed before the scientific era. I embrace the metric system, but trying to change a culture is much, much, much more difficult than spouting "shoulds" and "this is how it ought to be".
Not so logical as the metric system, but the Imperial system certainly makes a person more skilled at arithmetic.
If I'm correct only US, Burma and Myanmar use this odd scale. It does not make any sense and it is pure madness. By the way, almost all scientific publications (even in US) are written using the metric system, it's standardized all around the world also the best system ever and completely logical.
I learned in Imperial, and that's the way I prefer to think. It's easier and makes more sense to me.
Certainly for computers, the way that the rest of the world does dates is so much better for date arithmetic. The US (and other countries) have hybrid systems. A bottle of wine is 750 ml, a bottle of beer 12 oz. Scientists and Sf writers use meters. The military talks in klicks (kilometers) As for temperature, in some countries I have seen it both ways. I wish the US would convert but I bet we will be cooking in Imperial for centuries.
I was told in school back in the 70's that we would be switching to metric in the U.S......still waiting.
There is no elegance or poetry to the metric system. " The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep."
Australia went metric last century, so you CAN get used to it. It's just too bad that most of the aircraft we fly in Oz are US-built, because that means that pilots have to be adept at using both systems, as well as being able to mentally calculate approximations of conversions. Thanks for nothing! ;)
A lot of the aircraft we fly in Australia are American built and so we have to use the US system. So backwards! Australia went metric last century!
Fahrenheit scale set 0 at the temperature that salt water freezes, and 100 as the temperature of the human body, so it was not arbitrary at all.
Por favor quero uma tradução para português,opinarei e posso até discutir se vir o caso,só terão enriquecimento em matéria pois também vou compartilha e tenho muitos amigo e seguidores.
Might mention the upper part of the scales are the temps at which water boils.
Before I got smart and moved to a ranch in New Mexico, I lived in Ohio...they TRIED to get the metric system to go through osmosis. They had prominently displayed highway signs with 'CONVERT TO METRIC--.61 mile = 1 kilometer." and on and on. Well since so many peeps ignore the signs anyway, it was another waste of ODOT funds. If they just do it OVERNIGHT, then peeps would HAVE to adapt. I'm being charitable now! I know that will never happen.
I'm in construction. A foot is divisible by two, three, four, six ...try that with a meter.
1 meter by 2 = 50 cm, by 4 = 25 cm, by 3 = 33,3 cm, ....
Load More Replies...i prefer Fahrenheit for measuring temperature outside, as it isn't very telling how hot "25 degrees" is in Celcius. for general area temperature Fahrenheit makes a lot of sense. is it a big number? then it's hot. low number? cold. badda bing badda boom. As for the month/day/year thing, verbally, it is easier to go that way because it requires fewer words. "April 21st, 2004" vs "The 21st of April, 2004" but yeah imperial inches/feet/yards/miles suck
I’m shocked that they used the word r******d. Not cool. “Of limited mental capacity” is far more appropriate.
Actually, salt water freezes at 0, so it's not arbitrary. And with F, you typically don't use decimal points, because it has smaller units. 100 F is about the maximum temp at which people can really cope, since that is just above our body temperature. So, I don't really see F as being any worse than C. The rest is all ridiculous, though. As a software developer, the month, day, year thing drives me nuts.
also the sizes of papers are weird to compare with "A" paper system
Be easy on the Americans...... it is difficult for them. They were given a quality language a couple of centuries ago and they couldn't handle that either and had to abbreviate a lot of it....
Yea, and that "colony" is now the leader in just about everything.
Load More Replies...But us Americans want to change it or at least a lot of us we thing it doesn't make sense but so many things are based off it so it hard to change back
So Americans don't want the British overlords, but they want to keep the imperial system? It's stupid beyond comprehension
I'd rather have a liter than a pint. Yes I would, if I only cold, I shorely would.
At this point, I've just stopped giving a damn what other countries think. Imperial ain't going away for s**t for a damn long time, and that is that.
Why do those of you that use the metric system give a c**p? "Oh it's stupid to use the imperial system, Americans are so dumb..blah, blah, blah". Really? With everything else going on in life? Those dummies are still using an antiquated system. Always something negative to say. It's what we use, so what? Ya'll don't use it, so what?
Thank you for proving our point that Americans are dumb as hell. To all you decent Americans out there, we know you exist, and obviously this critique isn't directed at you, only degenerates as Krista.
Load More Replies...The metric system was made to measure water. That's why 0 degrees is the freezing point and 100 is the boiling. The imperial system was made to measure the temperature of the human body. To me it makes sense to use the imperial system. Stop bashing Everything that is different about Americans it gets old. The imperial system to me is quite easy and I find memorizing the metric system very difficult.
wrong. metric system started with distances by the french. a given length and then all multiples or divisible by 10. logical sense, unlike what the gap tooth brits thought of...
Load More Replies...The thing is, Americans do use the metric system. It's used for everything scientific and industrial, and it's a free country, so many Americans choose to use it for everything else. The only real difference is the road signs.
So one kilo kan be used to other things than white stuff?
Load More Replies...I use both where most appropriate, metrics lack fractions, try 5 thirteenths in metric.
Month/day/year has nothing to do with imperial or metric. Both Canada and America use both all the time. Month/day/year is the only one that makes sense though because unless you're making a historical British documentary, nobody says "T'was the 14th of May, 1865". It's "I bought that cake on March 19, 2012"
We use day/month/year in the whole world, 7 billions ppl use it, just the US and part of Canada do like you, and the whole word says they bought a cake on 19th of March 2012 and it's just fine that way...
Load More Replies...Where does it say that the Day, Month, Year format is the "correct" format?
Not here to dispute metric or celsius, but listing the order of the date via something as arbitrary as "days are shorter than a month" etc is dumb. Listing the month first conveys the relatively most important piece of information, then which day specifically in that month, then the year for clarity.
Mostly tradition, but Fahrenheit really is a better system (though it could definitely be improved). The temps from 0-100 are the temps that normal people might experience outside a lab setting. Celsius puts boiling water at 100 degrees, but the overwhelming majority of people will never use the numbers between 50 and 100 at all.
I live in Canada and I prefer inches feet pounds. saying I am 178 cms is stupid
Both systems have their advantages, and I use whatever is most suitable. The metric system falls down on its lack of fractions, try five thirteenths in metric!!
Only thing I still use imperial is when I measure myself, but not my weight. I don’t want to know how many stones I way , ahhhhhghghghg!
Old dears around here always say, "what's it in old money?" as a catch-all phrase meaning Pounds, Shilling and Pence, (yes we once had three units of currency), pounds and ounces and inches and yards. These bonkers, seemingly totally random amounts completely confuddle me, and don't get me started on recipes in cups!
Wow
I'm pretty sure they knew about this and just thought it would be fun to explain it all the time
Bored Panda reached out to Crappy Design’s community to learn a bit more about the subreddit. “The original motivation for the subreddit was to point out crappy designs. Nowadays, most subscribers probably come here for entertainment. However, it is common to have meaningful discussion here on why or why not something is crappy design,” the subreddit’s moderators explained.
They also added that “the subreddit was created 8 years ago. Currently, there are 1.7 million subscribers with over 2 million page views per month. It is very popular.”
While looking through the pictures, some of us are sure to be thinking that we could have done a far better job designing these things than the people who made them. The ‘Crappy Design’ subreddit's members most likely think the same.

According to researcher and author Don Norman, there are principles of good design which help people evaluate whether a product is a boon or a bust. For example, Norman believes all good designs are innovative and push the boundaries of what an object means to us. Naturally, well-designed objects also have to be useful, beautiful to look at, easy to understand and uncluttered in how they look.

Furthermore, Norman explains in his book ‘The Design of Everyday Things’ that good design means being honest and upfront about what the object does.

Also, objects should be long-lasting, environmentally friendly, and well-designed to the tiniest detail. Finally, products shouldn’t be over-designed.

The Interaction Design Foundation explains that bad designs are overloaded with information and force the user to do more work than is necessary. Akshayta Rao writes that we all intuitively notice badly designed items but find it difficult to explain why good designs are, well, good. According to her, a well-known example of bad design would be USB cables. She’s right because we’ve all tried plugging them in the wrong way more than once. Some of us maybe even hundreds of times.
