Woman's Retort Sparks A Family Feud She Never Saw Coming As It Exposes Her BIL's Truly Toxic Nature

I was with someone like OP's BIL for 24 years. Over TWO DECADES. You CANNOT "just apologize and everything will go back to normal" because the other person's "normal" is LITERALLY ábusing you. It doesn't matter how much you apologize, grovel, abase yourself, or debase yourself - it's never enough, AND it never changes anything - all it does is make the person temporarily "calm down" and return to their NORMAL patterns of ábusing you. I used to make the most elaborate "apologies" for my "mistakes" (which were such things like not turning the stove to the exact notch he wanted it turned to) - I used to make apology cards, write apology poems; I even once "programmed" a song he liked into Minecraft (with redstone) as an apology gesture for something I did wrong. NOTHING changed. If OP "apologizes", all it means is that his sister will return to the same ábuse she has been enduring for years. IT WILL NOT CHANGE.

Boyfriend Drives Ex Seven Hours To Her Parents And Sparks Massive Fight

His motives are admirable but there's very little consideration for the GF here. Stepping in when the ex was being a****d? Makes sense. Taking her to his place for the night? Ohhhhkay. A stretch, but his heart was in the right place. But a 14 HOUR drive AND an overnight stay? Really? That's taking it too far. There's no reason he couldn't have called her parents or one of her friends or buy her a train ticket or or or. Why did HE have to be the one to rescue her? And why isn't there even a fraction of the same concern for his current GF that he has for his ex? I don't think he's necessarily an AH, just clueless and in the wrong relationship.

To finish, dad then proclaimed that the "man of the house" carved, and he set the turkey at his own place. In my husband's (and my) house. But again my husband just chuckled and thanked him for being willing to hack up a dead bird (hubs is vegetarian and wouldn't have carved anyway - that's always been my job). FIL pulls the same kind of sh*t. Seems like a lot of people that age haven't gotten past the BS about the oldest male being the most important and worthy of respect. The first time I told my FIL older people weren't entitled to respect simply because they're old he just about swallowed his tongue. Thankfully we don't spend much time with either.

I truly think it's generational, or at least in every family I've been part of. My FIL and father are both boomers and behave exactly like this. They insist that as the senior man of the family they always sit at the head of the table. They do no cooking, serving or cleaning and never have any idea what's in the presents they've given you. Thankfully my husband is 180 degrees from that. He cooks, cleans, helps set and clear the table and could care less where he sits. The first year my father was at our house for Christmas dinner he literally RAN to the head of the table, plonked himself down and gave my husband a look I can only describe as smug, My awesome husband just grinned and told him it was smart to sit there as it was closest to the kitchen and he could help carry all the food in. My dad turned bright red, sputtered, but eventually the rest of the family shamed him into carrying out the turkey.

This year my multimillionaire in-laws gave me a used book, my husband a tool, our daughter received another used book and our son got a pair of sweatpants (they looked new but still had the value village sticker on them). We spent hundreds on their gifts and we're a single income family (our choice , never again). You might think they're just cheap but after the presents were opened my FIL told me he's *giving* their 7 figure home to my husband's sister. I wish I was kidding.

This happens all the time at group food events. People bring things clearly labelled gluten-free, dairy-free, peanut-free, etc and so many people who can literally eat anything on the table, will gobble that stuff down, leaving all the allergic and intolerant people to starve. They are SO selfish and it's just CRUEL!

The whole "court ordered her to replenish it" sounds a bit off to begin with. It's not like the money is a trust where the funds are being held till the child is an adult, PFD payments are made to the parents, and they can spend those funds as they see fit. There are no strings or conditions that the funds need to go to the child, so why would a court stipulate as part of the divorce that they need to be set aside and any spending replenished.

I agree that they're awful parents. I wouldn't say that they hate her - that is very hyperbolic. They simply are way more focused on their own issues than on the life that they brought into the world.

I sympathise with the mother but had a very similar reaction to the first YTA-commenter. I can follow her reasoning for why she doesn't want full custody, and it's not like she intends to abandon the girl, she wants to be present in her life. She's just flipping the script on how this usually plays out in a divorce. That being said, she had the presence of mind to remove herself from a potentially dangerous situation when he started flipping out, but LEFT THE CHILD WITH HIM. Heck, if OP had brought the child to her MIL, I'd have no issue with it, but this makes it seem like she simply doesn't care deep down. Not saying that's how it is, but that is how it seems.
