All the YTA are probably vegan or highly entitled in some way such as being the golden child who doesn't know what the word compromise actually means. It's funny how I never see reddit posts from vegans being guilted and yelled at to eat meat.

I think what bothers me the most is that they already made the plans and she already said she was okay with it then she took it upon herself to change the plans they had for his birthday without even asking him in the first place. I feel like she did this on purpose banking on him feeling bad that she spent all this time making food for him when in reality it's her own fault. She either should have told him she wasn't ok with the restaurant choice to begin with so they could have made a real compromise or if she really was thinking he'd enjoy this at least call him first and ask but she didn't do that because she knew he wouldn't enjoy eating her vegan version of foods he liked rather than going to his favorite restaurant.

Exactly this. Sister wants OP to put her job on the line to deal with her responsibility. That 4 yo is acting out likely because her mom's stress and inattention. That is old enough to know better than to bite unless there is an unmentioned history of biting.

Anyone saying YTA is the sibling in their own family dynamic begging for free help with a bunch of unruly kids. The sister literally threw a temper tantrum when OP refused to babysit. No wonder her kids are a nightmare. Hire a professional. End of.

The disabled mother that op points out can't watch children? Other relatives? What other relatives? Oh, and she and her husband the one who walked away and is completely ignoring his children. She should make sure her husband helps her seek a workaround. The guy who is - checks notes - gone and giving no s***s? People write comments like this and then get mad about programs that provide free child care and mental healthcare for children going through traumatic circumstances. That's your village, folks, that's the village you keep telling people to rely on

This is tricky. I work from home too and the number of family members who think that I can supervise children AND still work is crazy. When my kids were little I put them in day care so that I could get my work done and I would still have family members ask me to take their kids regularly because 'you are home anyway, what difference does it make'. It makes a big difference.

I don't understand these YTA. OP works from Home. If she would work at the office, she wouldn't be there. She doesn't have the time to constantly supervise her sisters kids. Her Job would suffer. Of course her sister is in a bad place here, but she could ask her mother or other relatives instead of OP. I don't like this blame game. These are her kids, so she and her Husband (he still should contribute) should seek a work around and he should definitely contribute money for a babysitter.

Whether OP is at fault for the blockage or not, the dog needed to be seen by a vet. Knowing Cherry's regular vet would be preferable because there are vets that are scammers. I took my cat to an unknown vet in a new area because of a tender swollen area on his stomach. After a $700 X-ray they said he needed a biopsy that would be over $2k. I took him to a vet my aunt used for a second opinion 2 days later and it was a mosquito bite he scratched open that got infected and he needed antibiotics and a salve for less than $200.

I think it's not hard to see why her marriage broke up. She sounds like a narcissist. Her expectations are entirely ridiculous and unrealistic. My best friend of 40+ years had kids and I didn't and she has friends she does stuff with that I'm not involved with, and I'm completely fine with that. Good riddance IMO.

Key word here is “habitual.” If mom of SS does this sort of thing a lot, then limits need to be set. The SS seems to be getting the short shrift here. If this happened one time, then possibly not a big deal. But if it happens regularly, then these are a bunch of self-centered adults, and yes, this lack of consideration will stay with SS a long time effecting his self-esteem and what not. I do wonder why a neighbor or other friend couldn’t have been asked or an Uber ride from the grandparents house arranged.

I agree. I would tend towards cancelling the gym class, but the apparently habitual extreme lateness of the request makes me wary. Secondly, the lack of even an *offer* of reimbursement for the gym class would make me refuse to help her (I would of course refuse the reimbursement if she was a nice person). And thirdly, the "selfish" accusation would seal the deal as to any doubts as to what type of person she is and dispel any lingering doubts about being wrong to refuse!

The problem here lies with the mother for not booking time off for what sounds like a special occasion. Or, if she couldn’t book time off, let her ex-husband and his wife know in advance so that one of them could make sure they were available. By dropping it on them at the last minute the mother has caused the issue

Doubtfire is definitely a movie of its time. So many "harmless" movies I watched as a Kid I would not allow my preteen to watch. Of course, I also have fond memories of watching Cheers in prime time and that also would not be allowed today.

My theory is that it comes from both nature and nurture. In stories where they are cousins, they probably grew up hearing similar family stories and have similar points of view. For closer members like unknown siblings, possibly familiar pheromones attracting each other. No actual research or proof for these theories.

Not only was she a horrible mom, she wasn't good with finances either if she kept over 50k in a regular savings account. I worked at a bank during the early 2000's and even the "money market" saving accounts had a horrible return.
