It's been almost a year since the coronavirus broke out in China. Our lives have really changed during the pandemic but we humans are pretty good at adapting. While the deadly disease is still claiming many lives worldwide, Pfizer and BioNTech have announced the first 'milestone' vaccine which can prevent more than 90% of people from getting Covid. They hope to be able to supply 50 million doses by the end of this year, and around 1.3 billion by the end of 2021.
Until then, the vast majority of people continue being vulnerable to a coronavirus infection and it is only the restrictions on our lives that are preventing more of us from dying. However, some nutbags still can't understand the severity of the situation. What's even more incredible, they use the Internet to broadcast their absurd thoughts. Covid is just flu, they say, masks won't help.
Luckily, someone usually responds to these folks with facts and logic. Continue scrolling and check out some of the best covidiot takedowns to date.

A poll by YouGov and the Economist in March 2020 found 13% of Americans believed the Covid-19 crisis was a hoax, while a whopping 49% thought the epidemic might be man-made. And while you might hope that greater brainpower or education would help us to tell fact from fiction, it's relatively easy to find examples of many educated people falling for this false information.
Take the writer Kelly Brogan, a prominent Covid-19 conspiracy theorist, for example. She has a degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and studied psychiatry at Cornell University. That's quite a resume. Yet she has shunned clear evidence of the virus's danger in countries like China and Italy. If that's not enough, she even questioned the basic tenets of germ theory while endorsing pseudoscientific ideas.

I wear gloves and a mask. The gloves make my hand sweat and the mask fogs my glasses with every breath. But. I. Wear. It. Anyway. It’s for the greater good, so we don’t have deaths in the millions—-it’s bad enough we’re already in the six figures.. One person’s selfish little me-me-me snowflake bubble is so incredibly insignificant in comparison. I agree, anti-maskers can commit suicide by exposing themselves to COVID-19 with wild abandon for all I care. Good riddance to bad rubbish. BUT they better damn well not take anyone else with them.
Maybe he shouldn't be making a mask out of cling film or a plastic bag... actually... maybe he should
I too struggle for a moment, until the panicky part of my brain shuts up and I remember to breathe normally, at which point I can beathe just fine. (Even scarves make me feel like I am choking), I hate my brain :p
Of course, it simply isn't true. General practitioner, medical researcher, and founder of PrimeHealth Clinical Research, Iris Gorfinkel, M.D., told Bored Panda it's important to remember that Covid is not just a flu. "It's not actually just a respiratory illness, it needs to be understood as a multi-system disease," Gorfinkel said. "So once it's inhaled, goes into the nose, it can damage the nerves right off the bat, so people can lose their sense of smell and taste. And that can actually last for months. The virus can [also] be swallowed. 20% of individuals present with gastrointestinal symptoms as their first clue that something is wrong. Yes, it can cause a runny nose, sore throat and cough, fever, and headaches. But we also know that it can cause significant hematologic problems, including the risk for stroke, that goes up significantly. And we've heard about Covid toes happening. That's not just in children, it can happen in adults as well. It's a pro-inflammatory disease, it's a disease that causes an increase in stroke risk."
Due For Some Good Luck Eventually
I've met many at the local hospital where I volunteer, and expose myself endlessly to Covidiots, to try to save people from Covid. Yes, it's often much worse than flu. For example, the 2020 death toll in America from Covid is over 220K; for flu, less than 50K. Hmm...
I forgot to say, thank you for volunteering at the hospital.

Science writer David Robson thinks these gaps in our collective knowledge of the disease could be due to information overload. The media bombards the public with news regarding the pandemic all day, every day, and we therefore often rely on our intuition to decide whether something is accurate or not. "Purveyors of fake news can make their message feel 'truthy' through a few simple tricks, which discourages us from applying our critical thinking skills—such as checking the veracity of its source. As the authors of one paper put it: 'When thoughts flow smoothly, people nod along.'"

According to Robson, the route organizations could take in order to open the eyes of these confused individuals is simple: they should present the facts as simply as possible. Preferably, with images, graphs, and other aids that make the ideas easier to digest. These campaigns should avoid repeating the myths themselves. "The repetition makes the idea feel more familiar, which could increase perceptions of truthiness," Robson said. "That's not always possible, of course. But campaigns can at least try to make the true facts more prominent and more memorable than the myths, so they are more likely to stick in people’s minds. (It is for this reason that I’ve given as little information as possible about the hoax theories in this article.)"
Gorfinkel agrees with this line of thinking. "Instead of calling [out] misinformation, try to give ... good information and fill in the gaps in people's knowledge."

Isn't it interesting that there was actually a supreme court decision (albeit 1905, but has been used in precedence since), where Justice Harlan made this statement (and this is only part, but the most significant) "But it is equally true that in every well-ordered society charged with the duty of conserving the safety of its members the rights of the individual in respect of his liberty may at times, under the pressure of great dangers, be subjected to such restraint, to be enforced by reasonable regulations, as the safety of the general public may demand". This was in response to smallpox vaccinations, but I believe the sentiment is true.

And if you ACTUALLY researched it you'll find that masks were a first measure for this virus. But every govt across the world pushed for no masks until June. Saying it was safe. Just wash hands and social distance. NOT ONE COUNTRY COULD BE TRUSTED TO WEAR MASKS PROPERLY. EXCEPT for China. The RESEARCH and facts coming from China were ignored because they're, well, China. In Australia they shut beaches but you could still cream 100 passengers into a rail car without ventilation. Hmmmm. I don't trust the govt either.
Rip Cooper’s Dog, And Eric
But where I am in the UK, the older people wear masks and social distance, while many young people don't. I didn't stop to ask why, but eg in the street, where it isn't obligatory to wear a mask here unless it's very crowded, some young people walk within 6 inches as they walk past me. Those over the age of about 40, never do that.

The Transport Accident Commission of Victoria states: "At the heart of Towards Zero is the belief that human health is paramount to all else". Each State has it's own ad, with the numbers applicable to that State's annual road toll. The ad is very powerful and is also applicable to COVID too. Exactly! But what I never understand is when I'm arguing with people who won't wear a mask or keep saying we're all sheep doing as the government asks, they never understand my argument: if there is a chance that wearing a mask could save lives, then why not just wear it? What is going to happen to you if you wear it that's so bad that it's more important that a life? And if you're right in the end and wearing a mask doesn't do anything, then at least you helped try to stop the spread IN CASE IT WOULD HAVE HELPED. One more time for the people in the back: If there is a chance that wearing a mask could stop the spread and/or save people's lives, just wear the damn mask. It won't kill you, and if we're wrong, it didn't do any damage. If we're right, not wearing one may have caused a lot of damage. ??Common sense anyone??

She was like our family, believed in using masks, hated trump for demeaning the virus until she was exposed. she was exposed 4 times to the virus before she finally got it. the first couple times were just luck. she started getting less and less worried. her reasoning? " I've been exposed so many time but never got it. all I have to do is wear a mask. it's not that big a deal." she then gave a friend a ride to work, and that friend was the one who gave her covid. My aunt now can't taste, feels like she has a weight on her chest, and is concerned about spreading her covid to her son, who has asthma. so yeah, there's a F*****G reason why we're making a big deal out of it.

This misses the risks to family members as well. Kids are huge vectors... try to explain that C19 is scary, and I'd expect them to lick their hands and start chasing each other screaming "'Rona! 'Rona!"
one of the first kids to make a TikTok video of "the COVID challenge" (where they licked a toilet seat to prove they aren't scared of it) caught COVID-19.
Load More Replies...For our children, we must assess what is a greater threat to them and put our pride aside. Sometimes that means choosing what makes them lonely and depressed over what could affect them forever. They're not fragile, they can survive some emotional turmoil. I'm not saying it's easy, but it's not the only time they will face that kind of thing.
This one is a little displaced here. There are good reasons to be careful about schools, but deaths in children, particularly in small children due to COVID are virtually non-existant. Thus, the reason while school-closings are discussed is to protect adults.
Hans, the key word in your post. "Virtually". Who's child is expendable? Yours? Mine? Your nieces or nephews? Any child's death from this is preventable if people would just use common sense. Don't get it. And that happens, unfortunately, by staying home. If we had just done this at the beginning, and done it longer, we wouldn't be having this conversation over and over. We're limping along, opening then closing, opening then closing. The reason adults want the schools open is they need childcare. I do understand that some people are in an untenable situation. But the government should help here. Give funds, make evictions completely illegal. Basically just stop everything. It could be done and would probably be cheaper in the long run.

5 Millionj deaths on his watch ?? Tell me more - but only the truth, no shenigans, no distortions, no lies (God, I've had enough of those !) and no bullcrap !!
By that "logic", Trump is responsible for the usual 5 million that died of stroke and heart disease on his watch, plus an extra 200,000 from Covid. So 5 million vs 5 million +200,000...
I’d argue that Obama’s healthy lifestyle and the affordable care act ENCOURAGED people at risk to seek solutions for their health conditions.

What Eric is saying is not utterly ridiculous. The problem is having everyone get it at once because the hospitals would be overwhelmed, even if it were just healthy people. And also, how do you keep the "healthy" people utterly separated from the vulnerable? Also, he doesn't seem to realize that for every person who dies of COVID, there are X that are in ICU. The problem is a lot of people, including my dad, does not seem to care if other people die from it.
I gave THUMBS UP to a group of high schoolers wearing masks. One of them asked, "Do you know us?" I replied that I was just glad to see young people in masks. He gave me a pamphlet and introduced himself. They are a group of kids who represent FOUR PERCENT OF ALL THRIVING BIRTHS IN THE UNITED STATES: kids with respiratory and cardiac birth defects. These kids go on ZOOM and speak with other kids about their situation and how Covid can kill them.
Science can answer all your questions, but it does no good when the ones who are supposed to listen and take care of the country aren't listening or caring.

Isn't the saying "God gave us mountains so we learn to climb"? So then, bad things happen so we can figure out how to solve our own problems?
Hint from the bible for people like this: The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD. (Isaiah. Look it up.)
God isn't gonna do s**t to help you if you're stupid about COVID.
God helps those who help themselves. If you won’t even at least wear a mask, why do you feel God should suddenly intervene?
You remember back in Genesis where it says : and on the 7th day, god rested. Well, looking at this scientifically, which can be done, lets assume that God time and human on earth time are not the same. One day for him, as the center of the universe, is a couple billion years. Whereas one day for us, with the sun as our center, is 24 hours. So, if we look across the whole of creation, which, ironically confirms rather than denies evolution, given the number of 'God Days" we were created at the end of the 6th day.... So this is Day 7 and God is still resting. You gonna hafta listen to the scientists if you wanna live.

By the way, my work insurance doesn't cover the covid test. So now I have to pay $150 to a lab in Texas. Those tests need to be more accessible and less expensive. One Of The Best Responses To A "Corona Wont Kill Me So Why Should I Care??" Comment Ive Seen Yet.
Hard disagree. The first person should be worried about themselves too. It is about them. They CAN DIE FROM COVID TOO. Y’all motherfuçkers keep acting like only sick or weak people die from this when it can take a perfectly healthy person and kill them. It’s just more rare. But what chance are you willing to take? So yes it is about YOU. I don’t want to make anyone sick but so far a lot of people have been sick and I don’t know much about a single one of them. I know me. I don’t want to get sick, first and foremost. All you other people come way way way down the list. I’ll still protect you, but I care about me first, and when it comes to health, we should all make it about us and just do the right thing.
I Might Order That Mask Design Just To Mess With Idiots Like Her
If u were driving sober why would u care if I’m driving Drunk? Your seatbelt and airbags work right
Although it can be said that "both doing it works better", the reason why masks exist is SOLELY to protect others. Surgical (and certified cloth masks) are designed to stop germs from going out (reason why surgeons use it... to avoid their breath contaminating the surgical site). Of course they also pose a barrier to spit and liquids, as well as the bigger inhaled particles, but not much they do against micron sized virus. They are also not designed for tight seal. To protect yourself, you must use at least a N95/FFP2 respirator (or better), to have actual filtration in inhaled air. The fact that is freaking November and people can't still grasp the simple purpose of a mask (and why they don't really work unless we all use it correctly), creates a whole turmoil of anxiety, exhasperation and frustration in me. That means they won't understand anything remotely more complex than the difference between a cat and a dog, if they can't distinguish a mask from a respirator.
Now it's almost three years in, and some still grasped it

She's concerned because of all the misinformation on the net. Tell her where she can read unbiased and scientific information about vaccinations and their advantages and sometimes disadvantages. Because it's true that some people do have allergic reactions to a vaccin, but it's not on the scale that anti-vaxxers are trying to make it. It's absolutely unbelievable how many people are posting made up "facts" about masks, lock downs and Covid-19. With just a little research you can debunk them all, but almost no one is fact checking the nonsense. Especially not those who are fact -intolerant.
Oh. Dear. God. LISTEN UP: AN AIR MOLECULE IS EXPONENTIALLY SMALLER THAN A VIRUS PARTICLE. An adequate mask will protect you from up to 80% of the virus particles and you will still get all the oxygen you need. This is nanometers. If a mask is, say, a standard chain-link fence, then air is the size of chickpeas and goes on through in great numbers. Now drop grapefruit on the fence. Do they get through? No. Grapefruit are viruses/droplets, chickpeas are air molecules.

What 1% Really Means
This. Why this post didn't make to the top 40 is beyond me. This is so much more important to get than just "it kills 1%" or "Those who wear a mask are stupid -- No, you're stupid !". This is a desease that damages people. Permanently (or lengthily at best). A friend of mine got it. It never got bad enough for him to be hospitalized. But it took a tremendous toll on him. Even 6 months after "healing", he can't run without getting very quickly exhausted. This is what scares me the most.
Hospitals don't have the capacity to treat 3 mil. What happens when the 19 who need hospitalized can't go because it's already full? That 1% is only while we stay under hospital capacity.
and for those struggling with the math, those numbers indicate about 55% of the population suffering serious physical consequences form the virus, as opposed to the 'mere 1%' that so many self-centered people seem to think is an acceptable loss.
Remember That?

"At least before COVID started" are the keywords. Now they wear them during their entire shift and none of them has died due to a lack of oxygen. And that's why EVERYONE is able to wear masks when it is required. Because COVID started and it's killing people. Nearly 250 000 US citizens have died because of idiots refusing to cooperate in a battle against a lethal very infectious virus.
