Body Acceptance Advocate Dresses Like Celebrities To Show That You Don’t Have To Be Skinny To Look Good (30 New Pics)
Meet Katie Sturino, the body positivity advocate and entrepreneur whose ‘Make My Size’ and ‘Supersize The Look’ content series have been going viral ever since she started them. She has been inspiring women around the world to feel confident in their skin and celebrate their style: something that social media and magazine covers notorious for representing size zero celebrities have failed to address.
Hence, Katie’s “Supersize The Look” series was born. The idea is simple: Katie is recreating the same looks celebrities have been rocking around the streets to show that you can wear whatever you want and look just as good (if not better!) than the super skinny fraction of society. From Kendall Jenner to Chrissy Teigen and the British royal Catherine Middleton, there’s no look that Katie hasn’t pulled off.
“I see your 'but I can’t wear a crop top' and raise you 'yeah you can! and you can wear leather pants TOO!'” she recently wrote to her 680k followers on Instagram, reminding them that “it’s never about who wore it better because that mindset just keeps us down.” Below, we selected some of her most recent stunning looks that will serve as a great inspiration for your spring dress outfits, and after you’re done, be sure to check out our previous posts with Katie’s viral series here, here and here.

Social media has emphasized the concept of empowerment and so the body-positive movement has had particular relevance. No wonder that recently, there's been a rise in plus-size influencers on social media who use their platform to advocate body positivity. Such curvy influencers have gained hundreds of thousands, some even millions of devoted followers, proving just how mainly well received and relevant their content is. Think of Katie Sturino, Ashley Graham, Charli Howard, Tess Holiday, to name just a few. Pua'Nani Owens, whom we contacted to speak about the body positivity and inclusivity movement on social media, is one of these inspiring women.

“When it comes to fashion and style, curvy women face challenges just like any other woman,” Pua’Nani Owens, a curvy lifestyle influencer and blogger originally from Hawaii, told Bored Panda. She explained that what makes plus size women’s challenges different is finding a fashion brand that includes their sizes with clothing specifically made for curvy bodies.
“What I mean is that you can’t take a size 4 dress and just make it wider. The same care for pattern-work and sewing that is put into straight-sized clothing must also be put into plus-size clothing without breaking the bank. That being said, we also sometimes struggle with the type of fashion styles that are available to us,” Pua explained and added that in recent years, many brands have become way more inclusive with styles and sizing.

Having said that, Pua believes that we’ve still got a long way to go. “That’s why more curvy girls and guys need to embrace who they are so that we as a community can be seen and embraced as individuals. Everybody deserves the fashion they desire,” she said.
The curvy lifestyle influencer argues that body positivity is crucial for not only curvy women, but women and men of all sizes: “it’s just that curvy bodies are currently leading the way with the movement.” According to Pua, true body positivity starts on the inside and with each individual person.

Evolving through self-esteem, self-confidence and realizing your worth outside of what your body can physically or visually offer others, and instead what your body can do for you. We can all love ourselves a little more, that way we can love and accept each other as a community within society,” Pua explained.

No, she doesn't look as good as they do. ´Trendy´ clothing always looks better on slim women. And that's why we shouldn't be shopping like crazy for what they're wearing, but focusing on what's really important in clothing - good fit for us, as high quality material as we can afford and wearability.

I think the message that you don't have to be skinny to look good is great but I personally don't like the comparison to celebrities. Don't get me wrong, these women look great - but more importantly they look self confidence and happy.

She looks terrible in 99% of these, because she's wearing cheap knockoffs, the style is not her own and the outfits look best on slim people. I don't even think she understands what "makes" the outfits in the first place, her fashion sense seems poor. She needs to find her own style in outfits that compliment her bodyshape.

Body positivity is great, but loving the body you live in means dressing it in what flatters you rather than doing a cheap copy of a skinny celeb in designer clothes. Wear what works for you. Took me years to let go of all that stuff that was never going to look good on 5ft 2 with an exaggerated hourglass. (Born 20 years too late and too soon.)

I actually think you could look good, genuinely good, sexy, nice - all of it, at any size. Especially if you choose clothes that fit you AND your personality. Just copy and paste is a bit "bleh" regardless of your body shape and that's why I don't get "trends".

Are the Bored Panda people EVER going to get tired of posting things about women's body shapes and sizes?? How many times does anyone need to see the same old side by side comparisons of models vs plus size women? The "body acceptance advocate" ISN'T doing anyone her size any favors by forcing herself into clothing that doesn't fit her just so she can...what? Continue telling herself that squeezing herself into outfits that are 2 sizes too small and made with fabrics that aren't sturdy enough is the height of "body acceptance?" It's the epitome of denial to think clothing that is literally designed for women who are size 0-4 are going to look "just as good" on women who are size 14-18.

Skinny people should wear whatever they want. Fat people should wear whatever they want. These pictures above only matter when you care what everybody else thinks. Ultimately, if you feel comfortable and happy in what you're wearing, then do that. Trying to always measure up to somebody else's standard of what looks good is not only a waste of time (because it's impossible) but it leaves too many people feeling like rubbish because they think they are supposed to look a certain way, whether they feel good about that or not. Just do your own thing and be really confident in it, and the rest of the nonsense falls away and disappears.

I think she looks great. I have a similar body shape and never rocked it like she does when I was that shape. I am thinner now but still think I look fat in pictures, depending on the angle. I try to never mention weight ever to anyone. Being body positive is a state of mind mist women never experience and that needs to end. People should strive to be healthy and we all must remember, weight is discussion to be had between a person and their doctor.

I love what this woman is doing. She looked great in most of the outfits! Some i have to say, didn't look great. Which was because the outfit was super bad on both people. Anyway, so disappointed that people don't get why this is an import thing to express. The counter message most of the nay sayers are implying is that if you don't fit the body type, you shouldn't love yourself. This is awful. The struggle is so real. OFTEN (not always), being unfit is a product of disliking yourself. To escape being unfit is not simply, exercise more, eat less, or even eats smarter. Mental state and physical road blocks is so much of the equation. Yes, quality of food, and exercise/movement can improve the mental state. But, to even get there is difficult since it requires a consistent lifestyle change. The point is, we can't know each person's struggle. Why kick someone who, most often(not always thank goodness), is down. Don't expect to get kindness/compassion if you don't give it.

For most of them, you look as good as or even better than the celebrity, but for some of them, the clothes they’re wearing are better for the skinny, possibly sick people out there. You are beautiful, but some of these outfits are not for you. I understand I’m larger than them too, and I can’t even imagine wearing any of those outfits. You managed to pull off about 90% though. Congrats!

Wow. I am impressed at all the horrible comments about hier body, and the jugement of overweight people. As a fat woman myself you all made me feel like s**t. It simple goes to show that fatshaming IS the last dehumanizing frontier, the last bit of hate people feel comfortable in, so that they can feel good about themselves.
