He's said this in interviews. When he started cooking this was the culture, but, it's an act. Everyone does say he's a wonderful person in real life, and as a boss. He's extremely helpful in teaching cooking skills and wanting to help his employees be better, including as people. Contestants on shows say off camera that he's very nice and helpful.

It's a caricature, and so an act. He doesn't take himself seriously and will never truly lash out. Just exaggerate the s**t out of things.

Having seen Kitchen Nightmares, a pigeon-infested kitchen is definitely something to swear about. A kid messing up a risotto is not. (He does Junior Masterchef, he's very soft with the kids there.)

If you don't think it's an act, watch the British versions of his shows. It's 100% an act, and he's even mentioned the reason for the difference between the two is because Fox execs pushed the idea that Americans crave drama and wanted him to play it up for the cameras.

If you watch the UK version of Kitchen Nightmares, you see that his fits of rage are amplified for American TV.

Not when they mess up, he is actually gentle with honest mistakes. It's the people who sell themselves as 5-star chefs when they can't cook an egg right that he unleashes on. Arrogance and bravado don't go well with him

When I was cooking the profanity and rage act was norm too (this was ~2006 ish) and it was entirely an act. I've also seen clips from shows he's done in the UK and from what I recall, his attitude is very different, while the shows for the US he is much more in your face. My thought is that it's partly the culture/norm for kitchens but also that he plays up to the audience he's performing for.

Yup. As was shown in Beyong Boiling Point (available on YouTube). But he's every right to shout in his kitchen when people mess up. It's not like a normal restaurant. He's hired a team from thousands of chefs worldwide to earn Michelin Stars with his vision. I couldn't imagine that kind of pressure, I have enough trouble choosing socks!

you can be thought of as smart and still be smarter then you let on. I doubt there was many that thought she was stupid, but there might be a few that found out they had still underestimated her.

True, and respectful as well. No one at a Metal (or Goth) concert ever pinched my butt without consent, the same cannot be said for other concerts I went to. And I went to a lot of Metal and Goth concerts.

I was friends with the goths/metalheads in high school, and I got the impression that because they faced and embraced the world's misery and literally wore it on their sleeves, they were able to be much more balanced and pleasant people, rather than just purely angry or confused. Just an impression, I could be wrong.

Most are actually very good people, great family men and women. You rarely hear about them being awful people.
