40 Times Companies Got Roasted With Such Witty Comebacks On Social Media, This Twitter Page Just Had To Share Them (New Pics)
Brands and corporations around the world have embraced social media as a tool to communicate directly with their current and potential customers, but the public hasn’t always embraced them back. There are lots of reasons why a brand’s social media communications might fail, but when they do, accounts like Brands Owned on Twitter are always there to take pictures and appreciate the damage.
Some of these burns might be cheap shots or just innocent witty banter, but in some cases, internet commentators take the opportunity to highlight very real issues with these brands’ and corporations’ operations.

Always kills me when big companies try to pin climate change on the regular individual
I do not fully agree, it is the many individuals not changing their consumption that allow these big companies to act this way. It is very much a shared responsibility.

The audacity of these huge corporations asking us to calculate our carbon footprint. It's not us. It's you creeps.
It's the mega rich that also hold a lot of responsibility- private jets, high fuel consumption cars. Multimillion pound companies need to be held to account as well. For the time being, the " average " individual is just doing the best they can....
it is our jobs as consumers to reduce the influence we bring into these big corporate giants.
Lets see, I'm confined to an electric wheelchair. Beat that you limo riding jet flying ?/? for a carbon imprint.
I saw a job ad for a Sustainable Procurement Lead for of these oil and gas companies … all I could think was how absolutely thankless and soulless that role would be.
Probably not given that it's on the BP article about brand fails

BTW, did you know there are people in the world who don’t know that coral reefs are a living ecosystem? I live in the USA but am very concerned about our coral reefs, as they show the health, or lack thereof, of our oceans ☹️ I wish there was more that I could do 😢
No one, more trash in the ocean. Great idea Adidas /s
Load More Replies...This is an interesting one. It's a promo stunt obviously but it's set up to draw attention to recycling. On one hand it's good that it's getting discussed and highlighting the issue of plastic waste in the oceans. On the other it seems pretty hypocritical making a big chunk of floating plastic and putting it in the ocean. Cynical me sees it as mostly virtue signalling from Adidas, and an attempt to lure environmentally conscious customers. But I can't see that actually working.
Well done, you've dumped a huge bit of recycled bits shaped like a rectangle in one of tne most naturally beautiful areas in the world. Greta Thunberg is 100% going to be endorsing your products from now on....
Elon Musk should definitely do something about the racism going on in his company. Please, however, do not put all South Africans in one basket. The ironic thing is that most people are unaware of the racism against white people in SA, the corrupt government who even ENCOURAGE "kill the whites" etc. The country has gone down the drain with corrupt people in charge. Stop blaming the whites, the uselessness of the country it its own doing with incompetent idiots running the show.
I'm guessing either you're too young to remember apartheid or maybe you didn't think it was such a bad idea. Really hoping it's the former and not the latter.
Load More Replies...Racism is unacceptable behaviour ANYWHERE in the world in the 21st Century, it's as simple as that, doesn't matter if it's next door or the President, it simply shouldn't happen....
Bit of devils advocacy here, I wonder if this is not deliberate racism so much as systemic. By this I mean they're not actively saying "You're black so you work in sector D". Rather it might be "You have this education level, so you work in sector D". It's not overt racism but it effectively creates the same result. As for the slurs, that needs clarification. Who is using them? Supervisors, coworkers? What race are the people using them?
Everyone loved Elon until he wasn't quite the liberal darling they all thought he was.
Many of us never liked Elon because we could see he was an egotistical jerk but at least he appeared to be a somewhat competent jerk. The change in public opinion now is related to the curtain being pulled back to reveal not only is he not the genius a lot of people said he was but he is actually a giant idiot. And regardless of politics, he's gotten stupidly petty in the last couple of years.

Load More Replies...Elon Musk is actually heir to a politician who was anti-Apartheid when being anti-Apartheid was not socially acceptable. His estranged father's share in an emerald "fortune" cost $40,000, although it proved VERY profitable. Elon's wealth, however, was created by writing a travel-software product, Zip2, with the help of angel investors who invested a total of $3 million, including eventually his Dad, who invested $20,000. (As Chief Technology Officer and co-founder, Musk made $22 million when their product was sold for $350 million.) With the money he made from that, he became fabulously wealthy by co-creating X.com, which eventually merged with other on-line banking tools to become Paypal.
Well-researched and thank you Bruno! Nice to get some *actual facts* in contrast to the puerile, judgemental name-callers who are no better than kindergarteners!
Load More Replies...Twitter accounts like Brands Owned are about more than just celebrating witty and snarky clapbacks. They tend to represent a cluster of different political value systems that can unite over a shared distrust of corporations. On a more basic level, they also give voice to some social media users’ discomfort over the idea of brand and corporations trying to pretend that they’re people.

you do know that corporate doesn't set the wages, the local franchisees do? with the exception at the handful of stores owned by corporate.
Corporate could, however, mandate a decent franchise-wide minimum wage to be paid, just as they mandate all other major aspects of the franchises.

3c raise per person that's $42 per month or $504 per year for the 1,400 people fired. Somehow I'm skeptical about the claim that the CEO picked $42 over 1,400 people. Maybe he poster meant 3% raise..? Now that would be more believable - ive worked in multiple corporates and 3% raise is defo the upper range so that's nothing to sniff at. Unless these 1,400 people were used to bigger % raise which I would understand.
You are correct - Kelloggs offered a 3 PERCENT raise... not 3 cents. BP is entertaining another fake outrage story. Here is a link, if anyone cares to see the story https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/dec/07/kellogg-strike-workers-pay

This approach to corporate/brand social media communication is a relatively recent phenomenon with a few different names, including brand humanization, personification, and anthropomorphism. In a practical sense, each of these practices seek a similar goal: making a brand, product or corporation seem like it has an individual character/personality.

What even is the concurrence? Apple is overpriced büllshit and Linux just exists without anyone ever giving it attention. It's Windows or nothing at this point
The problem is that windows still has a kind of monopole although even Microsoft already admitted Linux is the technically superior system. Unfortunately it is also coming from the non-profit noosphere, and is thus uninteresting to software companies, so they do not develop for it. In short: Linux does not pay, so it is marginalized. There is a reason it is preferred by lots of IT specialists and computer nerds.

I can see this question being omitted very soon as MS continues it's move to a subscription style OS. I made the move to Mint and (for me) it's a steep hill to climb, but this is from an an old guy who started with 3.1. But thus far it seems far superior to Win10. MS, I believe, is overplaying it's hand. With cellular devices (including tablets, etc) becoming the preferred device for nearly everything, computers will probably go back to being a device for business use only aside from folks who own a laptop for those pesky websites that refuse to optimize for mobiles. Gamers will continue to be held by "the short and curlies" by MS until there is a Linux distribution available for them. As a company, MS has/will become a victim of their own arrogance, and it's about damned time.
Steam supports a lot of games that work great on Linux.

Load More Replies...Social media isn’t the first or even the most culturally prevalent way in which companies have tried to achieve this. In the past (and to this day, some companies relied on charismatic or influential leaders to give them a human face. Consider Steve Jobs at Apple or Elon Musk at Tesla. Other companies have opted for mascots, like Mr. Clean, most child-oriented breakfast cereals, or the M&Ms mascots.
Yeah, he really looks like he's suffering in that photo. Poor fellow, I bet that's last season's suit he's wearing. /s

Sadly it was the "mom and pop" landlords that suffered during Covid not the big ones like this guy. I know of one (owns two properties that he's still paying off to the bank) and one of the tenants wasn't paying because "can't work during covid". There was a govt plan to cover rent for people left jobless by covid but the tenant had to apply for it, the landlord couldn't. The tenant refused to do so, and the landlord couldn't kick him out because "no evictions during covid". So effectively the landlord was paying for the guy to live in his house because the tenant was to lazy to submit a form.
I would recommend all movie studio executive to stop making/remaking sequels/remakes. Ars gratia artis, art for art's sake, and not 'art' for money's sake. :(
I'd start by looking at what makes an IP (story/character) popular before turning it into a movie. I'd hire creatives who shared that vision then trust them to execute it rather than interfering. So for example, start by not turning Superman into an angsty, red and blue version of Batman. And yes I know Superman is Warner not Universal, it's just an example :P
I do love seeing this one again and again on BP... there are no official government or council-level rules on parent and child parking in the same way you’d get for disabled parking spaces. Parking in a supermarket car park is managed and enforced by the supermarket itself, or by a private parking management company. That means it’s not illegal to park in a parent and child space without a child. But you could get a Parking Charge Notice (PCN), the same as you would if you overstayed in a car park. Who knows why they parked there - car park could have been full when they arrived in an emergency or they could be totoal kn0bheads...
The car park looks pretty empty to me. I used to be a police officer in a very busy city, and if it was an emergency, you’d definitely just park anywhere, and as close to where said emergency is. So maybe they had to run in quickly for a violent shoplifter? I don’t know. Might explain their wonky parking!
Load More Replies...So you call for police to come to your emergency where your child is being assaulted. Do you want the police to drive around until they find a “legal” parking place and likely taking minutes off of their response to you or are you okay with them parking “illegally” while they rush to get to you? This happens a lot to officers with people also complaining about cops speeding. The officers are rushing to a 911 call but observers don’t know that so they call to complain. Should they slow down and take extra time to get to you or should they hurry?
I think a better photo would have been them coming back to the car with their sandwiches.
The police are not necessarily subject to the law in the way citizens are. If they were responding to a situation, this is perfectly fine.
What’s different about the social media trend is that it’s happening in a space where the public is being engaged. Brands are inviting people to respond to their questions, but some of them aren’t getting the responses they were hoping for! The creation of a brand identity that people can engage with and talk to opens a whole new can of worms in terms of brand communication.

Breaking a wheelchair is literally like breaking someone's limb. Hope she got her money back to be able to get a new one.
And a lot of extra money to compensate for the horrible experience. Not only does she have to get a new one (or get it repared), she might also be unable to do anything until she gets the new one, so if she was on the way to her vacation, she's likely to be unable to do anything during her vacation at all.
Load More Replies...Every single day 63+ wheelchairs are broken by airlines in America. It is unacceptable. It strips us or our autonomy and dignity. It is a fight to get compensated for the damage, but even if I got my money back 100% of the time, it would still be a massive violation to my body and ability to live freely. Airlines need to do better. This is such a fear for me that I havent flown since becoming a wheelchair user because I cannot risk it. Insurance won't cover a new wheelchair of the same quality as my current one, so if my chair were to be damaged it may ruin me
I'm so sorry that this is happening!! I assumed that ALL airlines would treat a person's wheelchair with great respect and care. There is no excuse for this destruction, and it has far reaching impacts on peoples quality of life.
Load More Replies...I can't believe this sort of thing happens, people in wheelchairs should be able to go on holiday without fear of their mode of transport being broken - that's a disgusting fact which I never knew....
And Sophie Morgan (tv presenter in the UK) has too. I'm flying in august and already panicking about my chair as it's the only time it's not either next to me or I'm in it. Though I've heard easyJet are good, so I'm hoping they prove that right. These entities, at their core, are powerful profit-oriented enterprises. Naturally, this means they can make ethical missteps that the public will disapprove of, and when they try to later represent themselves as affable individuals, the public can still remember and address their past injustices.
Where I am there are so many great independent coffee shops that I think the only reason anyone still goes to Starbucks is that is another illusionary status symbol.
I remember a youtube short of a college kid working at Starbucks crying and shaking in the bathroom because he had been working double shifts for weeks with only one other coworker there to help out. He explained that he had barely slept, balancing full college days and taking over all the shifts and how there was no one to talk to about this since there was no union and he couldn't afford to lose the job. The best part: people in the comments called him a weak snowflake who would never survive in the "real world"
I worked for Starbucks in 2006, and for standing on my feet for 8 hours straight, forcing on my smile for s**t customers, and being abused by the manager, I got a whole $7/hour. I mixed things up and experimented with discovering the inner workings of this magical place

I worked at Kroger and got 7 bucks an hour but also snagged a husband out of it so thanks for doing the bare minimum in 2010 I guess. Their generics do slap though.
Kroger is trying to buy Safeway/Albertson's in the US and if that happens, it will literally be a grocery monopoly here in my state. We will only have overpriced organic stores like Whole Foods.
I was actually paid very well and got great benefits when I worked at Kroger, though that's probably due to the fact that we had a union
Well of course you have to jump through hoops for cheaper groceries (store card, downloading their app, clicking on the specials, etc.)
Pay more when you go grocery shopping = a greater percentage of profit for the company = higher wages for employees. You choose.
Well, the CEOs do need their massive bonuses and gargantuan salaries... how on earth could they buy a bigger yacht than their neighbour otherwise? Would be terrible for them.

This is a terrible argument. They *need* to keep making shows because other companies are creating their own platforms and pulling content. And you can't magically know a show will be a hit. I do however, wish they'd give shows longer to find their legs instead of cancelling them after one or two seasons.
Cutting of sharing subs has sure worked out for them. Subscriptions are way up! X(
Stop sucking up to Z list former actresses and their useless husbands and instead produce content made with intelligent people in mind.
Despite these risks, there is research out there indicating that this strategy can provide positive results. According to a study republished on Science Direct, “The results indicate that brand anthropomorphism is a valid predictor of outcomes such as brand trust and brand commitment. Finally, in support of incremental validity, it is identified that the [brand anthropomorphism scale] explains variance in brand trust and brand commitment above and beyond the measure of brand anthropomorphism commonly employed in the literature.”

Employers stealing or employees stealing, both are messed up. What I want to know is which MegaCorps are financing these Sus AF "studies"?
And companies are devastated to learn that people actually don't work for the love of the company. If productivity is down that much then they would fire the individuals, but as they can't identify them it seems they are making mountains out of molehills. Honestly, the amount of money companies waste on pulling, gathering, interpreting and presenting statistics is insane, the only purpose is to watch employees and if, with all that data they can't tell someone is slacking off then why does it matter if someone is squeezing some joy out of life?
Load More Replies...What all of this means is that IF a brand manages to successfully create a friendly or otherwise memorable and pleasant public-facing personality, they can count on that impression to influence consumers’ decisions when they decide how to spend their money. Load More Replies...If that's edited, they did an amazing job. You can see the window lines through the flag. I think more likely the reflection is a separate flag pole. The IKEA here has three flag poles out front.
I'd say this isn't edited, actually. The pride flag is lower on the mast, the Romanian flag is at the top of the mast, and that is what is being reflected. If you look at the reflection, you can't see any more flagpole above the Romanian flag, whereas, above the pride flag, there is plenty more pole that should be reflected too. So it's just a matter of angle/perspective.
Too many corporations are cowardly backing away from their support. Perhaps we should back away with our money. Looking at you Target.

Wealth/wages should be proportional to the amount of risk/investment into the company. Low level employees get paid the least, though they work hard, because they are not responsible for major decisions and have the ability to just walk away at no risk or loss.
I mean sure but…..they’re still doing all the work. Those responsible for big decisions and risks should absolutely be compensated fairly, (though often they’re being overpaid to make uneducated decisions that heavily impact the workers despite not even knowing what the workers do for them) but…..the workers are the ones doing the work and creating all the value, and absolutely need to be paid more. We need to stop paying suits so much to have meetings and stroke each others egos and give each other raises, and pay the people who are actually doing the work that keeps the company afloat. I think that was the point :) correct me if you disagree

This might sound weird from someone who is white af, but I am SO happy to see Asian representation in Hollywood finally. Does anyone else remember those bizarre BK ads from the early 00s that said "wake up to the King" and literally had an average single dude fully expecting to be alone find a guy in this creepy costume next to him in his bed? I was around 12 when I saw them, and I thought is was the weirdest marketing choice I had seen in my life at that point. That is not the right way to promote a new breakfast menu, Burger King!
We dont' have Wendy's in the UK any more, but when we did, I liked their burgers, and their cloudy lemonade
Well sure, they use slaves, but they inclusively use trans slaves, so it's all good!
Mondelez are being boycotted here in Sweden. They are still doing buissness with Russia i think.
The boycott is starting to spread to Finland as well. They're paying nice big tax rubles to the Russian gov and thus indirectly financing the war. Plus as we all know the Russia is basically the opposite of anything 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ inclusive.

Trans-inclusive radical slavery (TIRS), a better way to enslave
They closed the American plant that made Oreos for decades and moved it to Mexico .
I heard they were making a live action of Angry Birds movie, the villain does look scary
dont worry garibaldo will take you to his "safety basement" and he will "take care" of you
Is that the grandma who texted the young guy by mistake about Thanksgiving, and then ended up inviting him to dinner, and they've made it a yearly tradition? That's a nice story
Yeah it is, but I can't imagine turning it into a movie/show. Unless they're adding artificial drama to it.
Load More Replies...Yes Zak. It is a nice story. Now we all know it by reading your sentence. Why the hell does Netflix think we need to watch that for 2 hours lol

Eddie/Suzy Izzard has been one of my favorite comedians for decades. She's hilarious and smart and was wearing heels on stage way back in the 90s.
idk any trans comedians (pls give recs), but i like john mulaney and jim gaffigan
Eddie/Suzy Izzard. She goes by both names. Her dress to kill special is hilarious.

Load More Replies...Why do people keep hating on oatmeal raisin! Its just a freaking cookie
Because they look like chocolate chip cookies to me. Instead it’s just sweet disappointment.
Load More Replies...In case you didn't know, you can make oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips. And they're awesome.
Ever hear of "oatmeal raisin?" One of the best cookie recipes in the free world.
Raisins are disgusting in general and are a sin when placed in cookies. They are tiny wrinkled sacks of vaguely chewy cloying grossness. I'll die on this hill.
Load More Replies...Why would anyone eat DRIED grapes when you can eat JUICY, FRESH ones!!
Our family cookie is oatmeal chocolate chip. Been eating/making them for 63 years. They go fast around here. Use Quaker recipe, omit cinnamon and nutmeg, add more oats, and semisweet chocolate chips. Refrigerate at least an hour to allow oats to soak up liquids.
Ok...this will be controversial and no doubt garner haters galore, but out of all the cookies available at that place being alluded to here...Oat Raisin is my equal favorite. I don't know how so many, mainly Americans and Brits, don't like them. Where I'm from, when I order them with a delivery meal, often some have been changed to others because they run out of oat raisin! I Love your roasts, Wendy's, but this time, the raisins have left you holding your own plums 🫐
Seems like someone "built their own pizza" and didn't include anything but the topping
*None pizza, left beef. :) (I'm not crazy, this is a meme. Just google it. Very funny.)
Load More Replies...If you've never seen the saga of "None Pizza with Left Beef" you are missing out on a good laugh.
A Domino's delivery driver killed my great uncle and paralyzed my granddad in a head-on collision. Pizza delivery policy was delivered in 20 minutes or delivery guy got stuck with the bill.
Yeah, back in the 90's they had to get rid of the "30 minutes or less or it's free" guarantee because drivers were causing accidents trying to make it on time. Drivers would get their pay docked every time a pizza ended up being free. One of the dumbest marketing strategies ever!
Load More Replies...*lol* I watched both dominoes and papa johns fail in my city. And Pizza hut doesn´t exist here, either.
There's a message there, no? Their pizzas aren't fit to eat.
Load More Replies...I've never understood the appeal. I guess I've lived in too many cities with real pizza that I've never had to stoop this low.
Been thru it too many times. Latest was their $8.95 pepperoni with promise of 100 pieces of their already ultra thin slices. Counted 28 on mine. It doesn't matter what they promote their franchisees never honour it. Same happened with their supposedly ultra thick shakes a few years ago. Got one about as watery a fat free flavoured milk and so little flavouring I got the barest hint of strawberry every few gulps. They are going down, clearly they are too expensive to buy into and manage and their quality oversight is non existent.
Load More Replies...Honestly. Don’t hate me. But I truly love me an Angry Whopper. (I live in the middle of nowhere, even the nearest traffic light is 2.5 hours away - I love fast food so much and I’m not ashamed lmao, I get it like 2-3 times a year. Would kill for a Big Mac right now.)
Every single time I give Burger King a try, I am always disappointed. Burgers are either cold or just taste off.
I think it might be Rowlings very anti-trans stance that makes this a cringe.
Load More Replies...saying that trans women aren't women is very much transphobic, also what erasure of the word 'woman'?
Load More Replies...Disagreeing, in itself, is not a phobia. But when you use a very public platform to attempt to restrict the rights and protections of another group based on the completely spurious logic that giving that group those rights somehow takes them from another (cis women), well then, it becomes a phobia.

In the U.S., the federal government requires companies above a certain size to provide benefits to all employees who work full time. (And that was considered a huge step forward when it passed!) Many companies keep employees just below that number of hours so they don't have to provide benefits.
Load More Replies...Walmart's business strategy is to pay a low enough wage for the employees to qualify for state/federal aid. They profit and the government subsidizes their employees wage. NAFTA was passed under Bill Clinton the former governor of Arkansas which is Walmart's home. After NAFTA, Walmart switched from US products to Chinese. They purchased more products than the entire GDP of Germany. Hillary Clinton was on the Walmart board of directors prior to this. Follow the money...
Kinda related because pokemon and walmart- I got these super cool vans-looking shoes from Walmart with a Pikachu pattern on them, they're my favorite shoes
from what i remember, working at Target, you had to hit a certain number of total hours worked in a year to qualify for insurance. i think it worked out to 36 hrs/week. and in 2000, when i worked there, you couldn't qualify for insurance until you hit your 1 year mark.
It's Hot and it's Ready. Nobody claimed it was good. (But seriously, Little Caesars is still better than Sbarro.)
What on earth? Sbarro's is great if you can still find one. Little Caesar's tastes like someone baked some cheese on cardboard.
Load More Replies...I love Little Caesar’s! Much prefer it over a couple of the other big chains
I actually love Little Caesars. Much better than Papa John's or Domino's. It's my second favorite, right behind pizza hut. Plus their Crazy Bread is absolute FIRE.

I'm kinda imagining an actual fist fight between stick KFC guy and cartoon's popeye and it's not looking very good for kfc

Welcome to the world of the oldsters! When we subscribed to cable lo those many years ago, we did it because it was commercial free programming. Well, guess what?
I mostly did it because it's where the interesting shows were. Still don't get the big deal about ads, tbh.
Load More Replies...In case anyone is interested, I had this question as well. They don't have ads....for their own content (if you pay for no ads). The ads you are seeing is content that they host from other channels. Like NBC's Law and Order. Hulu shows it, but they essentially lease the content, so they show ads as part of that deal. Unfortunately for me, most of the content on Hulu that I watch, isn't Hulu's content.
Anyone want to explain what this means? Or am I in the minority that just don’t get it

But after the backlash, they almost immediately stopped the campaign. Not really being inclusive, just trying to make money.
Load More Replies...Has Arby's changed at all? I haven't eaten there in a decade because I could get a higher quality roast beef sandwich literally anywhere else.
I think they've gotten worse, tbh. Seems like every time I go now, there's huge globs of jelly-like fat in my sandwich. The meat itself is still delicious. But those fat globs just gag me, and instantly put me off my meal. After the last time it happened, I haven't been back in a while. They must be using cheaper beef. While you are correct that it was 3% and not 3 cents, do you understand how little 3% actually is? Let's say you're making minimum wage in my state, which is $15.50. 3% of that is 47 cents. 47 cents more per hour. That's a whopping $3.76 more per 8-hour shift. That is NOT a livable wage increase at all.
