These always irk me. Not teaching kids kursive and not having a rotary phone and then giving them s**t. Like it's their fault. If no one had taught us cursive, we wouldn't know how to read it either, and wouldn' t have begged others to teach it to us in our free time.

I do, too. Because it deprives those that don't have that high a paying job from having one at all. Shareholder value has come first since 50 years straight by now, and it shows. And it shouldn't.
I never use selfcheck specifically to preserve those jobs. I mention that reason to them and any manager around to convey the message. One of our grocers just replaced all checkers with scanners and one helper. They've seen me for the last time.

Self checkout is the best thing ever for me. I hate people and I fear being judged for what I'm buying. :)
It also minimizes standing for long waits due to insufficient number of lanes and people who like to share their life stories (both behind and in front of the counter). Plus, aside from Aldi's, I can do it way faster than the cashiers.

I've unloaded those walmart trucks before. Takes a solid 3+ hours depending on the size of the truck. No fun.
I use self checkout whenever I can because my fellow shoppers are so moronic about how they get through the regular checkout lines. It doesn't occur to them that they have to pay until after everything is rung up, and then they haul out a wallet full of maxed out credit cards and try one after another until they find one with an offering for what they're trying to buy. I understand that times are tough but if you're in that kind of debt maybe you shouldn't be buying what I see lying on the counter in front of me. It's not usually nourishing or very important.

I liked it when they gave us the option. People who want self checkout should be able to. I hate interacting with others so I love it. Plus I was a cashier for many years, and I'm better than most of them.

Self-checkout is a scam. Take jobs from people, make customers do the work, maximize profits.
Not only that, but it's rare to get through one without having an issue that requires assistance, which now means standing there waiting on the ONE cashier now in charge of 8 registers.

It's all 'women bad, hate wife, kids are stupid because they can't work tech that was outdated decades before they were born, the newer generation has different values hisssss'. Like a giant sign saying we're narcissistic bullies who no longer care about the kids who died when we were little, so we'll make fun of kids bike helmets and safety precautions now.
