My Newest Cleaning. Took 2 Days. (Mental Health Problems)
The last couple of years was a hell for this owner. Fortunately he recognized he can't continue his life this way, so he asked my help. Please don't judge
I'm really proud of the owner for seeking help, it's very brave to do ! (and that bathroom is really cute)
I once cleaned my gross brother’s bathroom, worse than this one. Within a week, he undid 5 hours of work
Not just hoarding, but consuming a lot of alcohol, from the looks of those cans. Glad they got to a point where they finally said 'enough'.

I Finally Cleaned My Kitchen After Months Of Depression. I’m So Proud Of Myself
I have found the act of organizing a mess often lifts me out of depression. A therapist told me motivation does not come from an external or even interior mental source. It comes from simply starting to do something. Then momentum often helps me continue.
The depressing part is it will be dirty again tomorrow. That's why I find kitchen cleaning so dissatisfying.
The 44 Bus Stop Got Trashed Overnight. Went Out To Clean It And Met A ‘New’ Neighbor Debbie (She’s Lived Here For 30 Yrs) Who Lent A Hand. People Talk Trash About Sf, We Pick It Up
0.000000003% of San Fransisco is now clean. (Yes, I actually did a calculation).
Good job - love when people step up like this! I live across the bay and try to do this type of things.
I always had a habit of carrying a plastic bag with me on my walks to pick up trash as I went along. Then I moved to the city where trash is strewn everywhere. I don't collect it anymore because it's so much more gross than in the country and it's just not worth getting a communicable disease.
I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I think it's great. On the other, I think it's useless. If people who trash, vandalise and destroy stuff are not caught and punished, they'll think there are no consequences for their actions, and they'll go on doing it. What's the point in cleaning if there are so many antisocial people?
"A clean environment is essential because it promotes both physical and mental well-being. A tidy, organized space reduces stress, increases productivity, and fosters a positive atmosphere," says Michael Wilkins, owner of Wilkins Refresh Cleaning Service to Bored Panda.
"It also plays a crucial role in health by minimizing the spread of germs and allergens, creating a safer and more comfortable space for everyone. Whether at home or in the workplace, cleanliness enhances focus, improves overall satisfaction, and contributes to a healthier lifestyle."
Update On The Copper Pots I Found For 6$cad Each. They Cleaned Up Well
I had copper countertops (previous owner installed) and took forever to clean. They would only look clean for about a week.
Three hours cleaning my copper pots make them look fantastic. But I found out the shine only lasts about a week.
And not at all useful as cooking vessels unless they're properly tinned. We can't see the insides of these pots but from their forms I'm guessing they're not clad with something non-reactive like stainless steel.

Depression Den: Progress, Not Perfection
Oh, this is fantastic. The recognizing you've made progress part specifically. That level of acknowledgement when depressed is astounding.
Cleaning professional and owner of Clean Queen House Cleaning, Katie Lambert, definitely agrees that having a clean environment is crucial both for mental and physical health.
"Having a clean, decluttered space helps you keep a calm mind. I know for myself having ADHD, I get overwhelmed and can't think as well if my space is dirty and cluttered. I also feel ashamed that I have to spend my weekends and evenings to upkeep my house. I don't know where that shame came from, but I have talked to many women who feel the same way," she shares.
I Cleaned My 23 Year Old Favourite Plushie
I wanted to make this post for anyone who might be worried about cleaning their favourite plushies.
I made the decision to clean mine and as a result, cleaning and bringing plushies back to life became a little hobby of mine. I hand washed her just once to see how she would handle it and gave her a brush for the first time. Then I put her in the washing machine twice and took a few photos while she was drying, whilst also brushing her out as she was drying. I was so emotional seeing her ginger colour coming back and actually being able to see her tabby stripes again
Plushie thanks you, her favorite human, for the day at the spa!!
"I will pass on the 'yoga' class though. I can do without putting my left elbow in my right ear again."

Before/After Of A Backyard I Cleaned Up Today
A friend had a decent sized plot that was horribly overgrown, but he was running out of space for all the flowers he kept ordering. I knuckled down, and within a few weeks I had cleaned it from chocking weeds, scraggly saplings, then turned and amended the soil, and we got to planting. He was so grateful.
I'd pull a chair up against the balcony wall, grab a drink and bedazzle myself with what I've done.
I would have kept *some* of the native plants at least.

We were also curious to know what inspired these professionals to pursue a career associated with cleaning. Wilkins said it was because he saw an opportunity to make a positive impact on businesses by providing clean, organized, and aesthetically pleasing workspaces.
"As a business owner myself, I understand how important it is to create an environment that fosters productivity, creativity, and well-being. By offering professional cleaning services, I can help business owners maintain a welcoming and efficient workspace, ensuring their employees and clients feel comfortable and confident in their surroundings. It’s incredibly rewarding to contribute to a cleaner, more enjoyable environment for everyone," he told us.
Just Cleaned The Pool At My New House For The First Time… Surprise Dolphin

One thing it had was a big hearth in the kitchen, with a large cooking pot very much like this but a tad smaller, hanging from an heavy chain over where the fire would be. It’s how the original owners in the early to mid 19th century would’ve cooked their meals. My parents left it intact, and just closed off the chimney, because it was right next to where our—-wooden—-kitchen table was, and they had a modern stove and oven installed in another part of the kitchen.

I Scrubbed The Floor At Work Today And It Traveled Two Years Into The Past
You should have scrubbed selectively in a way that spelled out 'pay me more', so the owners could see your value with great clarity.
This reminds me of the hallways of an apartment building I managed. Old building, low rent - so a lot of stuff was just 'good enough'. I was a resident before I became the resident manager. I talked them into letting another tenant be a part time janitor. He had heart problems so was disabled but he could work inside the building at his own pace. Anyway .... we stripped off YEARS of yellowed wax and waxed over dirt and the floors were so much brighter. (also repainted the walls)
Seems like a bad idea on a wood floor. More for bathrooms and water fixtures.

Load More Replies...When asked why so many people put off tidying until the last minute, Wilkins said, "Many people dislike cleaning because it can feel like a time-consuming and often overwhelming task, especially when juggling busy schedules. It’s easy to put it off because the immediate results aren’t always visible, and the process can feel repetitive and tedious," he said.
"Additionally, cleaning often requires attention to detail and physical effort, which can be tiring. As a result, many prefer to focus on tasks that feel more rewarding or urgent, leaving cleaning to the last minute. However, I think that once people experience the benefits of a clean and organized space, the motivation to keep up with it often increases!"

It allows for some adjustment of position as well as minimizing stress on the coupling from vibrations. Lambert agrees that a chore like cleaning can be highly overwhelming if a person is trying to complete it all at once. "If you can, set your family up on a recurring cleaning schedule with your local cleaning service, this will not only help your relationship, but also help to make sure you're living in a clean space, you just need to maintain your things! If you need help with decluttering or organizing, I suggest hiring an organizer first, then the house cleaner can come in and do a really great deep clean," she recommends.

A Mid-Century Silver Cocktail Shaker For $7. Look At What Some Polish Can Do
If you are ever trying to shine silver save yourself time and your silver by using aluminum foil water (warm is best) and baking soda. The baking soda acts as an electrolyte and causes the silver tarnish which silver sulfide to release the sulfur and bond with the aluminum making aluminum sulfide. This method does not abrade like abrasive polish or strip the silver like acid based silver cleaners. I just removed the sulfur from the tarnish and turns the silver sulfate back to silver.
I'm sure that works very well, however just the thought of metal-rubbing-metal sets my teeth on edge.
Load More Replies...Something else that can make tidying up less of a hassle is breaking the tasks into smaller, more manageable steps, says Wilkins. "Instead of tackling everything at once, focus on one area at a time, like a room or surface."
Another tip he has is to use the right tools and cleaning products to complete the job. "Microfiber cloths, for example, are great for dusting and wiping surfaces without leaving residue. Regular maintenance, like wiping down high-touch areas daily, can prevent buildup and make deep cleaning less overwhelming," he adds.
"Lastly, always clean from top to bottom, starting with dusting and ending with floors, so dirt and debris don’t fall on areas you've already cleaned. These strategies can save time and effort while keeping your space consistently clean."

And some scrubbing on the bottom and sides. That slimy c**p does build up. They probably drained this pool, scrubbed it out, then refilled it with fresh clean water that was then treated with the proper amount of chlorine. Daily cleaning will keep it from getting like this again (there are robot pool cleaners that can do it automatically). Except vinegar and baking soda fizz but cancel each other out chemically.
I let the vinegar and detergent sit, then add the baking soda which yes, reacts with the vinegar but at that point it's the abrasiveness of the baking soda you need rather than it's pH value. I use detergent and baking soda for cleaning often. My brothers a vinegar user.

I was told I should post the before and after pics in a separate post lol, so here it is: Based on some suggestions, I did four rounds of cleaning, it definitely took ALOT of patience.
1. toilet bowl cleaner, that I made sure was thoroughly covering the tub by lightly scrubbing it all over it. I let it sit for 15-20 minutes, scrub hard with steelwool. Rinse Barkeepers friend powder and with the same brand gel, I made it into a little paste that I coated the whole tub with, let it sit for 45 minutes and then scrubbed, rinse. This got almost all of it.
2. CLR, thoroughly spread around the walls and let sit for 5-7 minutes, scrub, rinse
3. one last deep scrub with vinegar, elbow grease and a lot of cussing and fussing because my back locked up bent over the tub at this point.
After rinsing things VERY thoroughly to avoid making chlorine gas, you can set some strong ventilation and spray that all down with a 50/50 water/bleach solution and it'll get rid of almost all those dark spots. Leave it to sit for about 20 minutes, rinse with hot water. Make sure you do not mix the bleach with vinegar, CLR, or ammonia
Curious - what makes the bath so black? Never see one like that in real life. Are these baths platic, or enamel?

Convenience food (heat and eat) is full of preservatives and processed foods, and takeout/eating out gets expensive. Eventually a man will learn how to cook, for his health AND his wallet. Of course, there are exceptions who will always live in their own funk, but most sentient men will learn how to cook and clean for themselves—-and that’s when they will be their most attractive to potential partners.
Being single is not an excuse to ignore housekeeping. Regardless of gender.

Kitchen Utensil Drawer - Before And After
I used to hate this drawer, and now it makes me happy to use it! Still want to find a better spot to store clips, but other than that this setup has been great for us.
I did a similar cleanup on a couple of my kitchen drawers. It's not perfect, but it is much better, and I was very proud of myself.
Me too, and I bought a utensil holder for the counter for the big things, like spatulas, ladles, etc., because my drawers are so narrow.

Thanks For The Tips. Owe Y’all One
I assumed I was destined to live with this shower stained forever. I read a comment where someone said their grandma told them if it’s not scratched or melted then it can be cleaned, and I felt inspired to try.
Thank You Guys Again, Full Before And After
Oven Before & After From Work Today
You devalued someone else's hard work. You basically just said that all the time they put into cleaning is meaningless. Does that make you feel good? Because it makes you look bad.

Put a cap or over on that open sewer line that you've got there. There is potential for methane exposure and explosion.

How did you do this?!?!?!? I have a frying pan I need to clean up. Nothing seems to work.
Depending on the pans finish you can use 'bar keepers friend', some water, and a plastic, not steel, scrubby
Load More Replies...Fill with one part thick bleach and 4 parts hot water. Leave to soak about half an hour and then rinse thoroughly.
Does thick bleach mean that you should put a good amount of it in the pan or do they make a bleach that is less watery and more gel like?

Update On The Burnt Pot: Coworker Said Screw It And Cleaned It By Hand
I guess he had the same idea but using brute force instead of any cleaners.
For anyone who may have burnt food on pots, bleach will remove it in seconds. Just remember to clean it REALLY well afterwards. 👍
After cleaning I always put the pan etc through the dishwasher. Usually by itself.
Load More Replies...Try dishwasher pre rinse and leave for half an hour - may need to be done a couple of times, but it works (but don't use with teflon coated pans)
An Hour Of Scrubbing And Polishing And This Casserole Dish Is Good As New!
It's pyrex. You can spray it with oven cleaner, leave it for an hour, then wipe it off with a sponge instead of scrubbing.
I find a little scrubbing with the scratch pad side of the kitchen sponge is still necessary to get rid of the really hard-baked bits.

I am deep cleaning the floor, which has only been surface mopped since we moved in. This does not get rid of the perma-grime. So I've done a full surface strip. The top bit is perma-grime, the bottom bit is the stripped floor. Now I know what the floor looks like. Only another 900sq ft to go!

New & Clean vs. Battle Tested & Dirty
The honda dealership keeps reaching out every week trying to get me to trade in my 2018 civic. Till now I've resisted, but there's a 2019 sti I want so bad I'm really struggling with temptation.
STIs are such magnificent cars. I have an '01 Volkswagen Eurovan that I inherited after my mom bought the van and then found out that installing a wheelchair ramp would be too expensive. I have always wanted to own something like an STI or even a Shelby, but the van still runs and I have two large-breed dogs XD I say pull the trigger on the '19 STI!

3 Years Without Cleaning Mouse Pad Before And After
Your mouse will stop gliding smoothly over a dirty mouse pad, which will make the simple act of moving your cursor around on the screen a bit frustrating. And if you've got a very old mouse (the kind with a ball instead of a laser), you also need to open up the mouse and clean the gunk inside every so often, so the ball keeps moving easily.

On a side note, I’ve always wondered what percent of BP users are American. Judging by the high amount of American political talk I would assume it’s pretty high but idk.
I'm American, but I've seen plenty of comments from folks outside of the US talk about our politics. I wish we weren't so important and/or drama-filled.

My home is often unorganised, but never dirty. Even at my lowest I still forced myself to do housework, because the thought of living in filth was abhorrent.
Excellent job everyone! I definitely need to pull up my big girl panties and ask for help with cleaning my house. It'll be a long sad winter if I don't do something.
Personally, I find it disrespectful for people to be posting before and after photos of things and places that they were hired to clean. This is exactly why I refuse to hire anyone, no matter how much more convenient it may make my life. You see companies posting before and after on their socials every day and start to think, "No thanks. Rather do it myself than have them posting my house /yard / car on there." People are ruining their own traffic with that b******t. Get a couple of consented before and afters and call it good; don't be posting new s**t every day. Not everyone is good with the world invading their privacy.
We have no way of knowing from the info provided here if they have the homeowner's consent or not. I wouldn't assume the worst (though I wouldn't assume the best either). I would think, however, that getting caught posting pictures without consent wpuld be very bad for business, and not worth the risk of negative reviews, lawsuits, etc.
