Bad bosses come in all shapes and forms. While some are straight-up selfish and unethical, others continuously tell their employees the absolute worst things. But there's a whole other category of managers who are simply awful human beings that always seem to find a way to make every day feel like a never-ending nightmare.
When you constantly clean up your boss's mess, witness ridiculous entitlement, and put up with a complete lack of respect, it’s easy to feel frustrated. Luckily, there are plenty of people who call out their out-of-touch bosses by documenting their nasty behaviors and sharing them with the whole world.
Bored Panda combed the web and compiled this list of the greatest examples of how bosses and managers show off their worst sides. So get comfy, grab a metaphorical box of popcorn, and continue scrolling! Upvote the ones that surprised you most and share your own experiences with us in the comments.

Who Is The Boss Now?
Finally Decided I’d Had Enough Of My Boss On Monday, And Did It Feel Good
That “No”
We don’t have to be best friends with our colleagues and our managers, but getting along with them sure makes things go a whole lot smoother. Our basic human need to socialize and create friendships gives us a sense of belonging, meaning, and confidence. Pretty much everyone wants to be in a healthy work environment to feel more at ease in our daily lives. More often than not, however, that’s not the case.
A recent study by GoodHire surveyed 3000 full-time working Americans from some of the most popular job sectors — education, finance and insurance, healthcare, hospitality, and more. The aim was to learn more about the difficult relationship between managers and their employees. The researchers asked people to share true feelings about their managers, how the supervisors could improve, and what kind of management characteristics workers hate most.
Is It Normal To Not Want To Discuss The Base Pay?
Asking about the base pay is a red flag?? Dude ur mentality is THE biggest red flag here
Boss Told Me After Massively Overworking Me That If I Want To Play In His Sandpit I Need To Toughen Up
Told him I don’t want to play in the sandpit, I want time to lay on the lawn with my cats. He told me to take my cats and go to hell. He was bluffing. I wasn’t. I quit! Coming at ya from my lawn!
"Boss, We Need New Tools", "You Just Got New Tools"
Surprisingly, the results revealed that 70 percent of American workers said they strongly or somewhat enjoy working for their managers. Quite unexpected, right? However, 82 percent would potentially quit their job because of a bad boss.
When it comes to the worst manager traits, "respondents said they are most irritated by a manager who is overbearing and micromanages, as well as a manager who expects them to work outside of working hours."

Who's Worse - The Manager Or The Racist Customers?
I don't know where is that restaurant but I'm so happy that we don't have it in this country. Fkng racist pr!cks
Plus, it’s extremely hard when management does not respect your personal time. GoodHire revealed that just 46 percent of all American workers feel their manager respects their time away from work. "This is a true red flag in the workplace and can lead to the demise of any sort of work-life balance, especially in this new world of remote working in which employees are constantly in close proximity to their 'office.'"
Why Do Bosses Get So Angry About Vacation Days?
My Sister Recieved This Email Today. It Was Sent From Her Manager To All Her Coworkers
She reported it to HR and they told her it was "out of place for her to critique her superior's emails."
The Company Culture
As they say, there’s only so much a person can take. And horrible bosses know how to test our patience. While some people choose to quit right there on the spot, for others this decision is a long time coming. After all, if you’re unhappy at work, feel constantly depleted by your job, or self-diagnose yourself with the "can’t get out of bed in the morning" syndrome, you’re not able to live a healthy and fulfilling life.
A Boss’s Emailed Reply To An Employee Testing Positive For Covid-19
I would have reported them to the authorities and had them investigate if he is forced other workers to come even if they have covid
Sad That This Is The World We Live In
Toddler Logic
This is beyond awful, but why are bosses being like this? Too much pressure, demands, expectations being put on them? Unrealistic targets? Some of them may just be wankers of course
Elizabeth Sullivan, a career coach based in the UK, told Bored Panda in a previous interview that some bosses show far less value, respect, and appreciation for their staff than others. "Some people are less sensitive, they may not even realize that what they are saying is disrespectful to other people. Some are unkind, uncaring, negative, unappreciative, or even toxic. And there’s also the bullies who take out their own issues and unhappiness on others."
When asked about dealing with such bosses, she said everything depends on whether you enjoy your position or not. "It can be worth trying to address it if you like the job and would otherwise stay. But there is a big difference between constructive criticism and harmful comments at work. You need the former to grow, the latter just needs to go," she said.
I'm A Skilled Tradesman Who Is Supposed To Get A $3000 Bonus At The End Of The Year For Making The Company $150,000 In Profit, Per My Contract

Manager Won’t Let Mom Who’s Son Is On Life Support Request Time Off
My Manager Taped A Piece Of Paper To A Clipboard
Remember, if you’re getting negative and hurtful comments from your employer, that’s not acceptable. "Everyone should feel respected and safe at their place of work. It may be important to evaluate whether the comments are specific to the company culture, the boss, or something else." You can try addressing the issue with your superior using the when you do this, I feel that formula: "When you make personal comments like that, I feel insulted, can you please stop doing that," Sullivan suggested.
This Sign. The Manager Must Be A Nightmare
"...I would gladly accept a cut in pay!" Bro WTF? Are you for real?
"Oh please punish me daddy I've been bad, take my bonus away" --- yes, sounds like the average fantasy life of a boss.
Load More Replies...This manager sounds like a narcissist. My narcissistic mother would force me to compliment her.
The "you're right, I'm wrong wrong" comment made me feel that way too.
Load More Replies...'I cancelled my vacation plans... I'd rather be at work' HAHAHAHAHA no
One my bosses once told me that they canceled my vacation days and needed me to be at work to fix a staffing situation (that they created), I responded by handing in my keys. Lots of issues but this was the last straw.
Load More Replies...This is a f*****g joke right??? Or this boss has some real issues
“I can’t believe how much money you pay me. Would you like some back?” No way this is real. They just be taking the piss
Sad thing is, a lot of these are completely plausible, but only if the manager is a great person and a good leader. I worked for someone who built an amazing team, and we checked off twelve of the items listed on that board for her, multiple times, because she'd more than earned it.
LOL take your stupid sign and shove it. Who comes up with this nonsense??
Bro is this a*****e for real if i was coming into work and saw this sighn outside i would quit my job (though i cant work since im 12) dude.
If you want me to say that we're ahead of schedule, be advised that the sentence will continue by me saying "so I think we should reward ourselves with this free time and leave early!"
Your employees wish they had reasons to say and feel what the sign expects them to!
Some of them can happen. "We are way ahead of schedule." "The suggestion box is empty" or "I don't mind staying late" (if overtime is paid). But some of them are just laughable.
What a lovely boss. I wish I could be just like him aka a real bastard.
This is a joke. Last time I saw this I showed it to my husband (who was doing his thesis on management and corporate culture) and he said he’d seen it before and it was a younger in cheek joke
His mommy must've wiped his ass with a big smile on her face saying thank you for the privilege
Sounds more like an owner not a manager but an owner owners hate taking money out of their pocket and giving it to other people. And they would stiff everyone if they could. He should had 10 children if he want free labor
"... Overtime should never be compensated! Fornicating myself with the boss's lunch-foods is payment enough for me"
None of this. I'd quit on the spot not even caring if that meant living in my car or whatever. Nope. No way.
this is astonishingly passive-aggressive, this employer is lucky he has any employees at all
Lets make it into a floor mat for back of house so I can grind food into it in a rage when tickets pop 5 to close.
I did tell my boss he's the best boss I've ever had, because he is the best boss anybody could ever have.
Must expect employees to brush their teeth with Preparation H with all the behind kissing that boss wants.
I actually would have agreed to come in early or work late but my work would only allow me to do so in rare circumstances because they didn't want to pay me overtime
This jerk doesn't want employees, he wants indentured servants. What an f-wit.
sadly my brother {who works for fedex} loves to work, love the manual labor, and has a head for the manager jobs, so he does anything there, doing low lv grunt work while being paid high rank, he would easily say all of this, and I have actually heard him say some of this, he never takes vacation too, his job is his hobby... guess what they say is true... do what you love and you never Truly Work a day in your life
Show that to his/her boss to prove he was wasting company time.
What kind of sick psychopath makes a sign like this? Have they even MET humans?
I haven’t worked in a small business setting for probably 40 years. I was in the military and since have pretty much worked for bigger corporations. Are these small time managers really like this?
Just once I'd like to hear my boss say "I make quadruple what you make while working half as much, I'll gladly take a small pay cut so that you can earn a living wage".
"i can't believe how much money you pay me... do you want some back?" WUT
This is so off. I used to work as a manager for a group of people working on the phone to deal with customer support. I was emphatic that “abuse is absolutely above what I expect you to deal with” if someone you are speaking to is shouting and swearing you escalate that call to me. I’m paid to take that, you’re not. I’m actually very good at dealing with anger so I was able to deal with those calls. I didn’t expect other people to deal with them. That’s why I’m paid more.
We work late and come in early all the time and we do it with a smile because we have a great boss who takes care of us and pays us well.
I can’t tell if you’re bragging or using very subtle sarcasm
Load More Replies...This is the most cringe I've seen in one single pic. than I've seen in a whole year
"You're the greatest boss we ever had!" top and center and everything else are the reasons the reasons that will never be true.
Those images... Was that guy a kindergarten teacher before? And a really narcissistic one at that
Where does this delusion come from that employees are working for something else than money?
The staff should make their board titled "Just once we wish our employer would do" with list of things the boss would do to make them actually like their work
My Office Has Lost 60% Of Our Staff Since The Start Of The Pandemic. I Am Doing The Work Of 3 People And I Was Here For 14 Hours Yesterday
Got this email from our area manager this morning. Happy Thanksgiving
Is "I would rather stay at home and hang out with my cats and watch neflix rather than spending time at the workplace with a shitty boss like you" reasonable enough
Everyone deserves appreciation and respect, and we do not have to tolerate frustrating situations as they can damage our health and well-being. "Address it and see if you can change it. Namely, is it a pattern specific to your manager or your workplace generally? If, for example, it was just specific to your manager, it’s worth asking for more regular feedback including positive acknowledgment."
"If you speak to the person using the [when you do this, I feel that] formula and the situation doesn’t change, depending on the source of the behavior and how comfortable you feel, consider bringing in an ally, a mentor, or HR. Taking larger action may be worth considering. Or even looking for a job in another department or company," the career coach added.

My Old Boss And This Review Describes Him In A Typical Manner
Where I live it is illegal to charge for tap water! I don't understand how they can charge people.
When you witness other people standing up for themselves and see how they did it, it can inspire you to do the same. While we should not stoop to our awful boss’s level by becoming aggressive or insulting, it’s important to know your worth and take a stand against injustices. After all, people will underestimate you if you allow them to.
"Remember that you are valuable, worthy, and enough, regardless of whether one particular person (an unappreciative, toxic, or negative boss) or even a group of people see you that way or not," Sullivan concluded.

It makes me so angry. We’re all on minimum wage by the way
This happened when I worked in the NHS. I was hauled in front of the Trust chief executive to explain why I had taken over 5 days sick after having an operation with complications. If you didn't take any sick days you got an award at the end of the year, as though being sick is a choice
My Bosses Were Complaining About Me “Standing Around” Towards The End Of A 10hr Serving Shift
I got so ticked off when I was a student nurse. We were employed in labour ward to do observations and give injections, but mainly to run around and clean when the cleaners weren't there. One day another student and I had a shocker of a morning, running around doing observations and cleaning the rooms, and we finally had a moment to sit down. The utter b***h of a receptionist had the gall to come over and hiss at us and say "Can't you find something else to do? It looks messy when you sit here". She said it really aggressively through gritted teeth. I really wanted to tell her that I'll sit at the desk and file my nails for awhile and she can go clean the blood clots and poop out of the birthing pool next time. Sadly, I was too polite

I told him painting and colour matching isn’t an exact science that if I don’t know the exact colour and base I could be a shade off and have to paint corner-to-corner but never believed or never took the time to think cause I’m a dumb dumb painter and I don’t know anything. Modern furniture is becoming more like painted tones and not wood colours, I’ve said this and I’ve told him to let me paint this, it’s just like kitchen cabinets scuff and roll on with good paint but he won’t let me cause this is furniture and I’m a painter and the furniture guys get paid more. Bro, I don’t care about the money I just need my hours and I’m not gonna say “I told you so” just let me help you out I’m a freaking team player. But no this piece is gonna sit there you are gonna buy 3 colours of paint, and yell at the 19-year-old new guy “I don’t need another gallon of wrong paint”.
Although colour matching isn't an exact science, they could have done a much better job than this.

If you're not American and get a job offer in the US look at these examples and really consider if that's the right thing to do (next to the awful healthcare). The US labour laws are made for companies and employers, not for employees. I live in Germany. I have 30 days of vacation and I need to take all of them. I don't know what "paid sick days" are or "deductibales". My company can't fire me on the spot, and only if I really f**k up. If the need to because of economic reason it's a 3 month period and I'm entitled to compensation, which I think is a monthly salary of each year I've been employed. So yeah, go live your American Dream, I'll rather stay here where employees are actually treated like human beings
@JP: By the way: I neither hate the US nor am I jealous of…of what exactly?
Load More Replies...160 years ago in the US, the rich people owned their slaves. Nowadays, they just rent them.
Load More Replies...I have one for this post ... And it's downright wrong... Manager told me in a text once and In person again that... " I use my Daughter and also the death of my Niece" ""As an excuse for everything..."". (I barely got to see my daughter because of that job and being 3 hours away.... and My Niece died at age 19 in a car wreck, Dec. 12th,2020..... ).. but ya... Then the manager fired me 1 week ago, through a Text Message... ... Definitely a HORRIBLE Manager/Boss ...
I'm sorry. Such people as those are ..... Expletives.
Load More Replies...My last boss was an idiot, but my favorite thing was the day after I quit, I got an email from a client who I'd finished a project for, and they wanted some changes done. NBD, I emailed back and politely told them that I no longer worked with the company and they would need to contact my former boss, wished them a good day, good luck, etc, they understood, wished me luck as well. Then I get an email from former boss asking if I can make the changes. I emailed back "No, I don't work for you anymore, and I already informed the client that they will need to contact you about the changes." 🙄
Is there a course in business school called "Assholery for Bosses"? Or do these people just lose their minds when they get a little power?
yes, these people all have massive self-esteem issues. When they finally get a first-line supervisor's job, their starved egos explode when they can actually tell someone what to do and then get them to do it. Some people will take a pay cut to become a first-line supervisor just to have the ego and self-esteem boost that comes with a supervisor's rank. How pathetic. If you don't feel good about yourself as a person, don't become a first-line supervisor to feed your ego. Instead find something you can do to help people in the community with volunteering or charity work. This really is much more satisfying.
Load More Replies...Like others here already posted, I just want all our brothers and sisters in US (because US is the banana republic who needs to hear this) to know: unionize. When all the people in the industry decide to go on strike, it's going to f up all these shitty bosses. For the guys in the back I'll just say it again louder: unionize!
So glad I live in the UK incidents like these don't happen as often
I was abused, unfairly evaluated, mistreated, and humiliated consistently by several bad, unethical companies and a string of numerous toxic bosses. Their main rule seemed to be that the more I do for them, the more they hated me. I took the meanest and fairest revenge possible. I called down the justice of God on them, while asking not to be directly involved. The fairest, the most just, and the severest form of justice is "you will reap what you sow". It is always totally fair. These morally and spiritually under-evolved people have slowly but surely "reaped what they sowed". Some have lost their good jobs, some have had their careers end prematurely and unexpectedly, some have had unfortunate transfers into horrible situations, and one of them did not work for two years after he got fired. I was not directly involved in any of this, other than the laugh quietly at them as the reports of their demise came in. One of my mottos in cases like this is "Payday, Someday". These people got their well-deserved, totally fair paydays. The gearworks of the justice of God turn slowly, but they turn with inexorable, unavoidable, and unstoppable force. Everything they did to me came back in kind. I hope the jerks learned their lessons well and grew as a result of this. I am not a vindictive person. This all was only fair. Some people are quite adamant that there is no god. Justice that evolves slowly, broadly, and consistently like this is all the proof that anyone should ever need.
Um, several companies and a "string" of bosses? You're the only common denominator in all that. You might want to reflect on yourself a little.
Load More Replies...as a minor who worked in food service, my first job was pretty illegal. I worked with nitrogen with no safety protection at all, and everybody I worked with were also minors with the managers gone from the shop more often than they were there. My work hours were also illegal, not to mention, in America, in the state where I live, minors must have a work permit before being allowed to work. My bosses never asked for a work permit at all. They were honestly very bad people, constantly lying and demanding more from us than $10 an hour but I'm glad I quit. :)
"worked with nitrogen" + "food service" = SubZero Icecream?
Load More Replies...I took a half-day on Monday for light surgery in the afternoon. Boss calls me in the afternoon while I was recovering to ask if i can work in the evening. The same thing happened two years ago when I choked and almost passed out. I was expected to continue working after I nearly died. I need another job that isn't going to kill me. smh
The issue in America is that itis common for workers to be promoted to a position of incompetence. If you are an excellent cashier you get promoted to assistant manager, a great assistant gets promoted to manager, etc - until you reach a level that you are bad at, and that's where you stay. Our system is flush with people who became managers, not because they're qualified, but because they were good at being managed.
Bless your heart, that's not the worst, here they get promoted because they can't do the job

depends on what you said. If it was a "trade secret" or involved bringing the company into disrepute there are legal precedents for that not being acceptable. so... what did you say?

I worked at a Casey's General Store here in Iowa. And that boss/manager is sadly still the boss there now
Manager told me if I worked at another location 50 min away from where I live on my day off she’d give me a small bonus award as well as ensuring me it would be an easy day and I’d mainly be doing desk work 25 patients later with almost no break I come back to work the next day and notice my bonus wasn’t put in when I asked about it she snapped at me saying that I shouldn’t expect these awards in return for doing her a favor fast forward she gives me essentially a good job award with no monetary value and proceeds to blame her snapping at me on her period…
Somehow envious that people can just quit and still live their loves. In my country it's effectively a death sentence. Jobs are so few so u end up supporting a large family and extended family, and only use pay for food and public transportation, no luxuries, and when fired you'd probably starve and die.
The U.S has never really grasped the concept of employees not being slaves, has it?
I bet most if not all are from the US, where employees are treated like s**t
