I did this when I was single. Been married almost 25 years now, and still have a lot of the thrifted furniture I found when I was single (husband didn’t have much furniture when we got together). If you take your time and go for better quality pieces (solid wood, good, strong upholstery, etc), you end up with furniture for a lifetime.

I always hope when I donate my 'good' handbags that they go to people like this, not resellers looking for a buck. I've donated off quite a few recently to a charity that supports women having to flee because of violence, and they get practical items such as toothpaste, pads, socks, shampoo, etc as well as a bag out of it. I have more to donate but again, I don't want to see resellers make on the deal (I only own -- and therefore donate -- authentic items, so some of them could sell for hundreds or more) when people who would genuinely love the item could have it.

From Reddit: "I was just at the goodwill outlet (bins) and planned on having a quick trip to see if they had any shoes or pieces of clothing that would catch my eye. As you know they tape off several areas of the store to replenish furniture, shoes, clothing, bags, etc. I was the first person waiting in line for furniture as they were replenishing the area and pricing all of the items. As I’m waiting, I see an associate bring out three pots and immediately set them down on a table. It didn’t even take me a millisecond to realize what I just witnessed. A vintage green le creuset Dutch oven and vintage le creuset Apple Cocette (pics added for reference).The associate who was filling out the price tags put the Apple cocette up for sale for a whopping $3.99 and the Dutch oven for $4.99. I felt a tear fall down my eye. I was about to come across the best thrift find of my life. UNTIL…. What I’m assuming to be the manager of the store walked around the corner and yelled out loud- “

Looks like someone was just p'd off because they didn't get the bargain they wanted. I'm with the manager - no way that should be priced as low as the original ticket price. I'm a great fan of these,, have a number in blue and in green. Not what I'd call "vintage" though, mostly got them all brand new. Although I suppose the adjective might apply to me as well, so meh.

I know this is a 'me' issue, but re. the clothes/shoes, I have major icks about wearing clothes and shoes that other people have. I know it's unreasonable but I can't help it. The homewares stuff, though, particularly the Le Creuset stuff, hit me up!

I get that but so long as you wash the clothing well, you're good. The issue is getting past how the clothing *smells* like them but with a good vinegar dollop in the laundry machine, maybe with some OxyClean, the smell will fade. Now SHOES... AFter the second or third wearing, the shoes start to form to someone's feet. For purchasing second-hand shoes, you're just begging for back problems from ill-formed shoes. :(
