I stepped on my dog's paw once... when he walked right under me in the middle of crossing a busy road with a car coming at us, and came this close to tripping us both up. Once we'd got to safety I said "I'm sorry, but you DID kind of bring that on yourself, you knucklehead."

Strangely enough the cat is louder than the dog when i've done this :D

Oh, man, I hate when this happens. It is a very rare occurrence, but my cat, Belle, has sounded as if she were being brutally stabbed when I stepped on her tail. A few minutes later she appears perfectly fine.

It's an entire whole body experience doing this. You do it accidentally and then the cat absolutely S C R E A M S in a way that shoots straight through you. You have to get over that very quickly to pick up your cat that will always be running away. Then it's kisses and apologies while your heart is pounding. It takes ages to collect myself after this. I'm usually absent mindedly going about my business when it happens!

Oh, the guilt!!!! I've got chickens with heavily feathered feet, and when I step on those, they're trapped! Plus, their little toes are so fragile against even a bare human foot. Mealworms on the house!

My cats take perverse pleasure in walking as close to my feet as possible when I'm walking down a dark hallway. Either they're masochists trying to get stepped on or they're trying to trip me. Or both.

I always pick them up to make sure they are okay, and they are just fine

My poor cst had a bent tail most of her life because of this.

I let my cat have a swipe at me if I do this while I apologise a million times because if she doesn't get a free swipe she plots my death and attacks me when I'm least expecting it.

The secret to this is a microwave magnet on a broom stick. Sweep it over the place after using sewing pins. Works great.
