Hairstylist Shares 30 Women Who Took The Risk Of Cutting Their Hair Short And Didn’t Regret It
Interview With ArtistNowadays, short hair for females is not only considered practical, but also a very stylish option that most women tend to go for when they want to switch up their look. There's an extensive list of reasons why short hair is great and most women agree that getting rid of it after a lifetime of tangling and damaged, split-ended long hair could be one of the best decisions ever.
Moscow-based hairdresser Kristina Katsabina helps women to feel beautiful again by making incredible transformations by just cutting off their hair. The talented hairstylist provides her clients with short haircuts, proving that female beauty is not measured by the length of the hair, nor is it measured by the stereotypes our modern-day society has set.
Giving her clients a fresh new look is one of the main reasons why Kristina does these before-and-after comparisons showing how a haircut can change a whole person within a matter of hours.
In any case, if you are wondering whether or not to go for the big cut, we have gathered a list for you of Kristina’s best work to help you decide if you are up for a transformation! Feel free to take a look at these 70 women who made dramatic changes to their hair by cutting it all off.

Seeing these amazing transformations, Bored Panda reached out to Kristina, as we were quite curious to find out how the talented hairstylist was able to start this whole trend of short haircuts as well as the inspiration behind it.
"A lot of women in their 30s are either working in a field they do not like or they have lost all of their inspiration to keep moving forward. It happened to me too; at some point, I lost all of my motivation to keep moving forward and deepen my knowledge when it came to my profession at the time. Before becoming a full-time hairstylist, I was teaching Spanish and also worked as a translator and choreographer."
"I think if I would have my own children, I would probably be on maternity leave like most women. However, at the moment, all of the spare time I have belongs to me, and I’m putting it into self-realization by doing significant things that are important to me personally. I like to keep a realistic overview of myself and the things around me. Knowing what’s important to me and what I love and want has helped me to take steps in the right direction to become a hairdresser, and frankly enough, I was considering this profession for a while before that. The profession had all the requirements for me to like it:
1.Creativity, style, and beauty.
2.Working with and for people.
3.Good pay.
4.Freedom (I could probably still work as a hairstylist even while being on the moon.).
5.I’m always learning something new.
6.The results of my work are immediate.
7.The opportunity to manage the process from beginning to the end.
8. A job where both my hands and head are involved."
Her hair cut brings out the beautiful natural colour of her hair
"When I put a checkmark on every one of those points, my decision was made instantly. The results can be seen in the before-and-after transformations I’ve done on my clients.
Now, talking about short haircuts—it was love at first sight. First, I fell in love with my own transformation, one could say I went to the extreme, going from long locks to the short hair I have now. The transformation results weren’t only visible in my appearance—no, the transformation also touched me from the inside too, I felt way happier than before.
When I started working as a hairstylist, I had more and more clients coming in to get a short haircut. Making these haircuts happen with my own hands, I saw the real transformations unfold right before my eyes. In the end, I fell in love with the process and it made me realize that I could see people in a different way. It is all about giving them suitable haircuts based on their preferences, personality, and the person’s overall charisma."
We asked the hairstylist, what was her favorite transformation, and here's what she had to say:
"I’m a highly specialized specialist, so people come to me exclusively for short haircuts. There are a lot of transformations I’ve done, but I couldn’t say which one is my favorite since every haircut is unique and personally tailored for the person I’m giving it to. I like the transformation that happens with my clients during the cut itself. You can see how the face becomes more lifted, women become way younger right away, and the haircuts themselves make them look more stylish, and modern by giving them a sharper look"
There are a lot of things a hairstylist should know, but Katsabina believes that some things should come from the person itself.
"I think the main thing the hairdresser has to possess is the ability to wholeheartedly love working with people and feel their needs. Of course, you also have to consider things such as aesthetics and one’s personal taste, but in the end, your mission is to make a person a better, more beautiful version of themselves. And that's what I do with my haircuts, I like to make women feel happier, more beautiful, free, and brave."
I had a very similar haircut to this in elementary school and I was bullied so much that I still have nightmares about it and I'm 38. Sad. I hope she doesn't have to deal with the same. I was even bullied by my teachers. One teacher called me Mr for the rest of the school year. Thanks Mrs. Parker for making my life shittier.
Load More Replies...All of you criticizing a little girl?! Jeez just let her live, she's adorable every way. And luckily kids care far less about gender roles and societal norms than adults do. I had hair cuts like this on and off my whole childhood and no kids were ever mean or confused about it. Not saying it's impossible but I highly doubt she will get bullied for having a short hair cut. Thank goodness our kids are far more accepting than adults.
Could you be more wrong. No, kids repeat after their parents and they have mirrored opinions on gender roles, race, anything really. In my school girl was so bullied because of short hair (11yr olds were calling her homo, lesbian, boy etc) that she was driven to attempt suicide. She left a note saying specifically that she can't take any more comments like that, that she is a girl, she likes boys and can't live like that. Teachers tried talking to her parents many times before that, but they insisted girls should have short hair because it's modern, "not compromising to patriarchal models". They risked her life for their beliefs Talking with other students and their parents didn't give any results, cause they all thought it's okay. There is nothing more school can do so.... Do what you want, but do not risk your child bring bullied
Load More Replies...nope, she is lovely looking but why she is so justin bieber at the right photo
Well if your only reference is Justin Bieber then I have some sad news for you.
Load More Replies...I liked the long hair but they should've layered it and volumed it up.
300 year difference. From misty and romantic to sharply contemporary.
The left picture looks like Amy Schumer. But it's a darling new pixie cut!
Is it me or the right photo looks like someone used that gender change app?
Short hair is awesome! However, a lot of these cuts are very hard to style yourself without a lot of time, product and hot styling tools. I've worn some pretty 'out there' short haircuts in my life and the ones with any sort of length in them are a major pain in the a**e.
Thank you. Just what I thought when I read the words "more practical"...not really.
Load More Replies...I wish women getting the haircuts of their choice were considered normal, not "daring" or "brave". Anyone can rock long or short hair, and everyone should be able to choose without being judged.
I've had long hair almost all my life. If I were to choose to have it cut short it would be a daring and brave move. Just the thought of it is scary to me.
Load More Replies...I really like short hair on women. Evidently that's an unusual opinion for a man.
Thank you,, Al! You are a bit unusual, but I think that makes you an interesting man!

I'm laughing at Aunt Messy's comment, imagining this: an ancient crone blows out 31 candles, then mournfully watches her stringy long locks drop to the floor of the salon. Of course, I could be wrong, and maybe Aunt Messy's cut-off age is 30 years plus one second. In either case, Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn and Sandra Bullock have blown waaaaay past the deadline.
Load More Replies...I wish I could pull off pixie cut. I tried once and I looked weird because my hair is thin and I have "funny" head shape.
There are a lot of different pixie cuts. I’ve had good and bad ones. I also have thin hair and I’m never going back to long hair.
Load More Replies...I think it needs to be pointed out that the camera angle, the color tones, the background image, and the distance from the camera are different for many of these pictures making them harder to compare.
A l o, very often the second picture has a bright smile where the first does not. I still think the majority of these women look better in short hair. Their face becomes the focus, not the hair.
Load More Replies...YASSSSSSS! As a short hair chica myself I LOVE seeing others. Let’s get rid of the boyish and not sexy stigma. We are HOT 🔥
Well... when I had very short hair I was mistaken for a man a few times. So it can look boyish on some people.
Load More Replies...I'm 57 years old and have had a HATE relationship with my hair my whole life. I always wanted to shave my head but family, peers, society doesn't look too kindly on bald women. About 6 months ago I thought to myself, "Why not?!" and shaved my head. I absolutely LOVE it!!! I can't believe how fantastic it feels and how much pressure it's taken off my life. Everyone I know tells me I look great and have a perfect head for going bald. I was so thankful! That was my biggest fear was to have a wonky head! If you're thinking of shaving your head, GO FOR IT. You won't regret it!! Photo attached with a little friend! 1-5fed099bb173d.jpg
I am not a fan of short hair for myself, but I like it on most of these women. But they are all young women, so of course they look cute. What about women over 50, 60 or 70?
I remember when I cut my hair short. I never regretted it once (despite my dad complaining all the time about how much he misses my long hair, lol) and I feel a lot more confident and less dysphoric now.
My dad’s standard of female beauty is hair long enough for a Renaissance Fair. 🙄
Load More Replies...While I do love almost all of these cuts the before/after pictures don't really give the whole story. In almost all of the pictures the before hair is flat and unstyled (as you would expect if your going in for a cut). So hard to say how they look if they were gussied up like in the afters..
For a lot of these, it seems to be all about the bangs. So why cut off all the hair? What about just doing bangs?
Wow all these syles and likes are fantastic. Can you do one for Men as well?
Too mayn Victoria Beckham style, for my taste. And many of these cuts are very work-intensive. I've had my hair long for decades, now, simply because it is so much easier to style.
Short hair costs way too much in time, product and upkeep, not to mention the hat hair is horrendous! I've had (very) short hair, but it's currently quite long. Very easy to keep tidy, easy to style, you don't need so much product (although I suppose you do need more hair ties, clips etc), and the hairdressing cost is next to nothing. Every time I go to the hairdresser, even for a very basic trim of the ends, it costs a minimum of $35, or some $300 a year. That might not sound like much, but when the budget is super-tight.... Not an option for a lot of people in reality.
I think most the haircuts were way to short. I got my longer hair cut short and hated it, absolutely hated it for 3 weeks. It was to fine and very flat plus, I didn't know how to fix it like my stylist did. I got a perm and that made it better, and grew it out a bit more. It was way to fecking short the first time.
All of the these cuts work beautifully. And it doesn't hurt one bit that these women are gorgeous.
Attention Pandas: Women who were already pretty did things: You won't believe it, they still look pretty.
I love most of these cuts. But when a person as a large forehead, like some of them do, sweeping their bangs up and off the face is the exact wrong thing to do. It makes you zero right in to that area and makes the forehead look huge. Wispy bangs would make a big difference.
All were just the same cut on different heads. Those styles looked like hell to style and would be totally different in 2 weeks. Nah. I'll just keep my long hair.
As a professional stylist I have to correct a statement made above. Short hair requires MUCH MORE MAINTENANCE THAN LONG. Once the hair grows even 1/4 of an inch, it will not lay right. It will look sloppy. Most likely the wearer will attempt to cut the bangs and around the ears (creating a mini-mullet). And if you have highlights, or any color, it needs to be retouched every 4 - 6 weeks. Short cuts and colors cost the same amount as having your long hair done. Go for it, if you can afford it.
I *really* like that the models are wearing the same clothes and the same make-up, so we can see the real difference, instead of it being more like a make-over.
These are good photos because they are wearing the same clothing, so true before and after shots. Unfortunately I keep seeing rabbit ears behind them.
Ehh. I think most looked better before. The short hair makes most of them look way older than they probably are. Obviously just my opinion but it didnt inspire me to do anything other than keep growing mine out...
A lot of the long hair was stringy, unhealthy, and sad looking.
Load More Replies...My preference is for long hair on girls, but it's their choice of course.
For a second there I thought you were THAT Paul Mitchell, which would make sense, as longer hair sells more hair products.
Load More Replies...They look like men!!! At least most of them do!!! Short hair is not attractive!!!! If u don't care about that then go ahead!!!! U have to be pretty lazy to not want to take care of long hair!!! WOW!!
I really love it when I see someone who rocks a short haircut. Unfortunately, I also see many of them letting it grow out again almost immediately. I've had short hair for quite a while, and it suits me much better than when my hair is longer, thin and difficult to style. I hope they realize it helps them stand out from the other women their age (in a good way) who have long hair, no bangs and seem to do it in a messy bun all the time.
I'm going the other way. After years of having short hair I'm growing it again. In 2019 I had a style that I loved but when I couldn't get into my hairdresser I had to find someone else. 1st try, not bad but then he left. 2nd try, hopeless! Actually told her it would be ok once I grew it out again! 3rd try (a few months later) different hairdresser but just as bad as the 2nd. So decided to wait at least 6 months, covid hit and no hairdressers open. Now my hair is below my shoulders. I tie it back and it's out of the way. I'm not paying out money any more and, after our sons wedding later this month, I'm going grey! So very much easier.
I like that there's actual substance to this article. His job author, I can tell you put thought and effort into this 👏
I always have to ask my hairdresser to keep cutting, once they think it’s finished.
You are so creative! And a true specialist! Each cut, like you said, fits each woman/ child’s face! The shape, the contours and bone structure, the shape of the eyes, and, the small verve of something special for each one! The confidence and sass is evident in their faces and smiles! They look freed from the restrictions of all that hair.. and the male usually, consensus, women should have long hair to be beautiful. I know your clients must walk out of the salon like entirely new, and excited beings of light! Knowing they are beautiful and that anything is possible! One reason, stylists are so important! We all need to have our true beauty revealed so we can really see ourselves as others might, or better than we do. Thank you, for your amazing talents and gifts you give to us!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💥💥💥💥💥
I got my hair cut short a few months ago and have never regretted it, it is super easy to style and I don't have to worry about it as much, so to anyone thinking about getting this haircut, you might as well!
Pretty much all of them look better with short hair, I think. I myself have worn my hair short for decades and I love it, though it needs more care and makes a lot of people assume that I'm lesbian.
Here's the other side of that coin.
To be honest, not many of these cuts were flattering or very modern, and many looked like the same cut, despite the differences in face shape among the women. Most o the women looked better before with their long hair, and a long hair style would have suited them better. Short hair can be gorgeous, but it has to be the right cut, and not outdated looking.
also, you need a certain face shape/cheekbones to rock those short cuts

Short hair can be completely practical! You have to get the right cut for your hair. #3, #4, #12, #16, and #30 all work well on mine and take about 5 minutes in the morning. I've even been cutting my own during the pandemic.

I stopped looking and went straight down to the comments after the first 10 images. If you don't have a narrow face and a nice smile...short hairstyles do not look good on you. Basically, if you are attractive, you can get away with any hairstyle or fashion choice. Which is why Johnny Depp can dress like a homeless guy and people praise him for it.
I think some really rock their looks. Besides, can we please stop using the name Karen? Why not use something like Marf (middle-aged rude female)? :D
