At any given time, the average person has about 12 secrets. They don't have to be extreme; many people keep their political and religious views to themselves, especially when they believe others will agree with them. Some also choose to hide their finances if, for example, they have a lot more or a lot less than it appears.

Point is, we possess a wide variety of personal classified information. So Reddit user Zippping got interested in the most colorful chapters. They recently made a post on the platform, inviting folks to reveal the strangest secrets someone has ever told them. And replies didn't disappoint!

"They Had No Plans To Stop": 30 People Share The Wildest Secrets They Were Ever Told I was 14, a female friend told me that her uncle was molesting her but she was too afraid to speak and asked me to please not say anything. That same afternoon i went to the police station with a friend, anxious asf, and told the police everything. The next week police came to my highschool and took my girl friend. A few days later her mother called mine to thank me and a few months later the uncle was in jail, and still is to this day. I don't know how i had the balls to do that but i'm very proud.

I'm proud of you too. I'm sure the girl ended up grateful and knows she has you to thank for putting this abomination where it belongs, in jail for hopefully a long long time.

When someone finally find the courage to tell, even if it's under "do not tell", it's often because they want it to stop, and do want it told to someone else who does have the resources to stop it. I say that as someone who was told the secret, and convinced her there was NOTHING she did wrong or should be ashamed of, so I helped her to approach an adult who could get things going forward for her.

What you did probably ended up saving your friends life, or at the very least saved her from who knows how many more years of her uncle. You should be proud. I hope your still in touch. Prisons have standards with regards to prisoners, as to what is acceptable, what the uncle did, puts him at the VERY bottom - he would and hopefully still is - having a nightmare in there....

As someone who's BIL has served as a Correction Officer (CO) at various Prisons for several decades for the DOC. I can honestly say that you are 100% right! Anyone that has committed an SA on a minor are on the BOTTOM of the Prison Hierarchy, that's not only with the other Prisoners but with the Guards/CO'S as well. Depending on the severity of the crime increases the chance that a Guard will look the other way or be slow to respond when a Prisoner deals out "Prison Justice". Also, sometimes the REALLY bad offenders are a victim of a paperwork "mix up"so they end up in " Gen Pop" while CO'S work on fixing it. Some people will scream and cry that it's not fair to do this to those POS, but if you heard about what some of these MONSTERS have done and sometimes even BRAG about what they did. You would understand that a prison sentence is the VERY least they deserve for what they did to those kids.

According to Dr. Justin Lehmiller, a research fellow at The Kinsey Institute, the host of the Sex and Psychology Podcast, and the author of 'Tell Me What You Want', our secrets can be "about something positive and exciting, such as a surprise party you're throwing, a new job offer you received, or an engagement proposal you’re about to make."

"Positive secrets like this are the kinds of things we often feel the urge to confess," Lehmiller told Bored Panda. "We want to share the good news and find a way to channel our excitement."

But "at the same time, most of us carry negative secrets—that is, we hold information that could potentially make us look bad to others if it got out. This is the kind of information we're often afraid to share because it makes us vulnerable; however, we sometimes still want to share it anyway. For example, someone who is having an affair might confess this to a close friend, perhaps because they want to talk through the complex and mixed feelings they have, or perhaps they just want to share their excitement about doing something taboo."

When people confess their negative secrets, it's usually a means of facilitating intimacy with another person. "Disclosing information you wouldn’t normally tell other people can be a powerful way to build closeness," Lehmiller highlighted.

My mother was in hospital at the end of her life, When she started crashing, they were going to put her on life support. I stopped them. She died 2 hours later. There was no hope for her recovery and it was more merciful to just her go. Not an easy thing to do, though.

The unfortunate problem is that it's his word that his father wanted this, the father isn't available to say anything. I'd take it that it was true if I knew the circumstances clearly but I'm not a court of law and there are reasons why the law would disagree that can't be ignored.

This is why ppl (who are able to consent) should have their own voice in their life. Im sick of the syst demanding someone else speak for a person! If your suffering and on the edge of death? You shouldnt HAVE to have someone ELSE decide if you can pass peacfully or suffer for MONTHS. You shouldnt HAVE to have someone ELSE decide if you can get your tubes tied/whole thing removed. Only YOU should make that decision cause its YOUR body NOT anyone elses!

when my grandmother was at end of life she was given the choice of them continuing to treat her kidney failure or for them to make her comfortable until the end. she chose the latter. my mom & aunt were upset with this decision while i would have assisted her if the choice would not have been given. several years later while discussing her passing i mentioned this to my mom. she was surprised that i would admit to such a thing.

She had to watch many family members age with dementia and she was so scared of it...until it started to take her over too. Now it's my turn to be scared of future deterioration

"They Had No Plans To Stop": 30 People Share The Wildest Secrets They Were Ever Told My HS girlfriend told me her stepdad had been showering and sleeping with her since she was 13. I started dating her when I was 17. She was extremely experienced and very sexually active, which a young guy would enjoy, but it was over sexual and I knew something was up. I asked her and she told me all about it. I tried to handle it, but could not. Her little sister had also just started to be molested. I told them they needed to tell their mother or I would. Well they did and guess what? I was basically kicked out of the relationship. I became the bad guy. I wish now that I could have helped her or dealt with it better. But I hadn't dealt with anything like that. We broke up and their family carried on. It wasn't incest, but it was wrong. She did marry and have children and it looks like a nice situation. Unfortunately her younger sister died of an overdose when she was in her 30's. I'm now in my 50's and this whole situation still bothers me.

I'm so sorry for both these girls, and for this boy too. N'either the girl or the boy are to blame, the only one to blame is the piece of scum who abused the girls. Kids who get abused often get threatened that they or their other parent/siblings will get killed if they ever tell anyone. Or manipulated into thinking that if they tell, it will be their fault that their parents break up and that the other parent will be heartbroken. The girl was probably way too terrified of what would happen once their mom would know, we can't blame her for panicking and pushing him out. And sure, the boy could have gone to the police, but he was just a teenager who didn't know what to do, so I can't blame him either.

Back then, a woman reporting sexual assault was just as likely to be dragged over the coals in court. If this is the way our law enforcement and judicial system treated adults, you better believe a child didn't stand a chance. No one would take the word of a child over an adult's denial. The mother is the real piece of work in this situation for allowing both her daughters to go through this just because she needed a man in her life.

Lehmiller said that we're drawn to hearing other people's secrets for a variety of reasons.

"One is that it can make us feel normal. Almost all of us are carrying around at least some information we don't want to share because we're afraid of being judged, such as having a 'deviant' sexual fantasy. When we hear that other people are having the same thoughts, this can help to reduce feelings of shame, embarrassment, and anxiety because we realize we aren't alone," the psychologist explained.

"They Had No Plans To Stop": 30 People Share The Wildest Secrets They Were Ever Told When I was like 10, my father bragged to me about basically torturing another kid in his highschool. They called him names, locked him into lockers frequently, laughed at him crying in there.. and one time, drenched him in gas and pretended to light him on fire with their cigarettes. He thought it was funny that he cried and pleaded for them not to light him on fire. He told me about these stories at dinner to "calm me down", after I cried and screamed like hell when he forced me to extinguish a candle with my fingers.

Not told to me directly— My evil ex-roommate was laughing about how stupid her boyfriend was because she manipulated him into paying for an abortion that wasn’t his.  She thought it was absolutely *hilarious* that he never asked, and was *truly* concerned for her health and wellbeing.  She was loudly bragging about it on the phone and I could hear her through my bedroom wall. She’s genuinely one of the worst people I’ve ever met. .

But we also understand the burden that comes with it. "When someone volunteers a secret, we may also be reluctant to hear it because we then bear some responsibility for keeping the other person's information secret," Lehmiller said.

"For example, let's say your best friend tells you they cheated on their spouse—but you're friends with their spouse. Now you're in a pickle. You might feel the need to keep your friend's secret, but you might also feel the need to disclose it because someone else really needs to know it. And no matter what you do in this situation, someone will get hurt."

So wrong. I can speak from experience having helped my mother raise my nephew who ended up having severe ODD. We had to make the most difficult decision to place him into the foster system 1. It was the only way we could get him the mental health care he required and 2. We had to for the safety of the rest of us in the house, including his younger sister he did far worse than beat up on. He tried to choke my mom on multiple occasions. Even though he was in the foster system, we had weekly visits and continued in therapy with him. We didn't just give him up. He just couldn't live with family. He is fine now as an adult and we all have a fine relationship with him. Couldn't be prouder of the work he did to get there. He has since said we made the correct decision for him.

Every now and then we hear someone say they lead completely honest lives and do not keep any secrets. According to Lehmller, there is a chance they might be telling the truth, but we will never know for sure.

"Sometimes we lie to keep our secrets hidden. And, sometimes, the information we keep secret is the information we've lied about. As a social psychologist, I suspect it's the rare person who never keeps a secret. The ability to keep a secret has a certain power—as does the ability to selectively reveal a secret when it suits your purposes. Humans are reluctant to voluntarily give up power, and the ability to keep a secret (or choose when to reveal it) is one power that everyone has."

Is it possible he's wrong? If he had a vasectomy, men who've had have them have gotten people pregnant. It's very rare but if he had one and it didn't take that'd explain the kids. If he was tested years ago and been told he was sterile his sperm could have increased and he isn't aware. Hopefully it's one of those and not that his wife has cheated.

First of all, of course it seems gross to me in this day and age (and location), but it's weird to me that people don't know that 1) All societies have taboos against mating between very close relatives 2) A large number of societies that anthropologists have studied do NOT have a taboo against first cousins marrying 3) Many societies actually appreciated cousins marrying, because the families already know each other, and 4) While the entire society needs outside genes as a whole, there is only very slightly higher chance of recessive issues with first cousins offspring.

In India it is societally acceptable among some communities and quite common. They have "rules" though. Children of two brothers or two sisters cannot marry. It has to be children of a brother-sister pair. One reason was to keep the family wealth/property in the family but I also know one community where they marry their uncle, mother's brother specifically. I have always and will always find it creepy and weird but yes it is a common thing.

There was a no-peanut policy in my daughter's class (because of her). This guy brought cookies his mother made for his birthday. My daughter had a cold and couldn't smell. The mother used peanut oil (she didn't think it made any difference). My daughter injected her epi-pen and ended-up in the hospital. The principal brought her over because waiting for the ambulance would have been longer than getting there by car. My daughter got pumped out and injected again. She passed out in my husband's arms. After that, my daughter was no longer permitted to eat anything brought by others so parents told their kids in advance and I would give my daughter whatever would be presented that day, i.e. I would make cookies or cake and she would eat her own stuff and the rest of the class would eat what the b-day parent had brought. Now she has her own child and she's bringing her to an allergist next week.

My mom worked with a lot of these adults with special needs that once were institutionalized. The thought of things they've seen but are unable to communicate scares to this day when I think about it...my mom told me stories of things she read about in their records. The abuse they suffered and their behaviors as a result. Not to mention how the medical community basically experimented on them as there was no way to tell the potential outcomes in various surgeries, ect because of their underlying conditions. Truly horrifying how the most vulnerable in our society are treated. :(

depending on the age of the poster this could have been way back so yes this is a very valid thing. remember women were sent to mental institutions until relatively recently (mid 60s) by their husbands even though nothing was wrong with them but they talked back or smoked or drank "too" much. Mental institution back in the day was not the same thing as it is now. it was a place to hide things you didnt want people to know about. Hell the patriarch of the Kennedys had his own daughter committed because she rebelled by dating and smoking and having her own ideas, she was then lobotomized which actually ended up damaging her brain so much she couldnt function and became what we call special needs. Then her sister started the Special Olympics. So yes sending a secret baby (of probably a prominent family in there town) away to a mental hospital to hide it away is absolutely a thing.

She put the baby in a home for the mentally ill? First of all, not an orphanage, foster care, a family that wanted to adopt? And second, the mental institution took the baby? If I’m missing smth, sorry, let me know, but how can a baby even be tested for a mental illness?

She may not have had a choice about giving the baby up. Also mentally ill in those days included things like Downs syndrome, which would have been identifiable at birth. Not that any of those explanations are good.

My aunt on my mother's side, was born with problems, but even though my grandmother and I did not get along, she kept her home and raised her like her other kids were being brought up. This was in the mid 1930s so it was very rare to raise a child with development and mental health issues at home. My aunt had a wonderful life and died in her early 70s.

My mother worked in a hospital for kids with severe mental deficiencies which often accompanied physical deformities. Most were institutionalized since birth. She had to quit after a few years because it was just too painful. Most of them lived short lives.

When I (63m) was in my middle 20s a friend came over and asked me to pee in a flask for him. When I asked, "Why me", he said that out of our entire friend group (some 15 of us), I was the only one he knew that didn't do any d***s! That was true and I'm still unsure how I feel about that revelation.

In college our biology lab was about five benches, with four to five people working at each one. My bench had three girls on it, one of whom would tell the others stories about how she was dating her uncle. The stories were all graphic, horrific, and weird. She did not have an inside voice, and the entire lab was fully aware. Not sure if its a secret? But it should have been...

But he didn’t stop there, he went on to tell me that he had slept with over 100 women since they had gotten married. All of these answers are really really sad, both the drinking and the money theft. My parents let me sip their drinks when they were drinking, I never stole liquor from them and although I have drunk at times in my life I am a very moderate drinker. I also never stole money from them, my mother was very proud of my honesty, and the fact I took a nickel from her purse and left her a note telling her so. Honesty is much easier than sneak theft.

My friend did similar, then we’d go to an off license. Ok. In retrospect that sounds unhealthy, but we were at boarding school most of the time, occasionally go to her house for the weekend. Itronically a couple years later as a senior she got involved with the school d**g creep and stole cash all the time. Now she’s the class alumni contact. At night he looks at the skyscraper across the street and things about what it could be like is a man could love a skyscraper. What John doesn't know is the skyscraper ( also named John) gets turned on by humans. He is in love with John as well, but knows how they could never live together. Two people ( kinda.), ones a skyscraper, ones a human. In love with each other, but neither of them know. Will they ever find true love in each other? Made by the same studio who made classics like Having sex with a wagon, John f***s a sewage pipe ( Gone wrong gone sexual), and Johnny John and the railing. This groundbreaking film directed by John "Johnny" Johnson shows what it really means to be in love.

Not if he's using a dating app that the nurses would obviously be using it by choice, too. This is just his way of ensuring he matches to his preferred type...nurses.

Reminds me of a bit from a hidden camera show years ago. They hire an actress to wear a fake baby bump and send her into a bar to down some shots. The bartender continues to serve her despite the fact she looks overtly pregnant.

Working in restaurants we were taught that it is not ok to discriminate. If we refused we could be sued. Only reason to refuse to serve someone is if they are underage. If they appear too drunk then get management, servers / bartenders weren't allowed to make that choice on their own

FWIW, unless there's some serious genetic problems already, it's not a health issue. Now, if it's generation after generation of first cousins marrying, then the potential for genetic conditions starts getting bad. Culturally speaking, though, ew.

Marrying a cousin was, and in some cultures/communities still is, very common. You only share 1/16th of DNA with a first cousin. That's about the same as a random person of the same ethnic group as you. The issue is when you have repeated intermarriage within a small group/community for several generations without any new/outside contributions. Then everyone starts to share very similar DNA and you start to get genetic issues.

First cousin marriage is legal in the UK. Up until the First World War 4% to 5% of marriages were between first cousins, but such marriages are now vanishingly rare, except in certain groups (2/3 of marriages in rural Pakistan are between first or second cousins).
