When life gives you lemons... you do what? Make limoncello! This attitude is what we’re all about in this post. In times of the pandemic, political turmoil and soaring real estate prices that feel like yet another economic crash is somewhere around the corner (not like we care, most millennials have come to terms with the fact that they won’t be able to afford a house in this lifetime, so we find comfort in a $10 avocado toast instead), we need to lift ourselves up and balance out all the negativity.

So please, make yourself a warm cup of tea, bring on those biscuits, and tuck yourself in with a warm blanket, because we prepared you a good news-only compilation with some heart-soothing and emotionally recharging posts.

Because the truth is, no matter what, there are always good people who bring back hope when we need it the most. And some more good news awaits in our previous post right here.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer 12 years ago, the hardest part of it all was breaking the news to my mother over the phone. I moved from Texas to the UK in the 90's, so we couldn't be together as she was too infirm to travel by this time. I could hear how upset she was that she couldn't come over to help me. A few weeks later, I received a large box from her with a huge hand-knitted blanket in my favourite shade of purple and a matching chemo hat, complete with satin ribbon around the crown so I could tie it tight. She'd read that people getting chemo could get extremely cold, so she found a way to help even from 4500 miles away.

From my understanding, it's not a vaccine but it gives you time to get them to emergency. This is from a friend whose Huskey was bitten and $4,000.00 later, she made a full recovery after 2 weeks.

Bored Panda spoke with Dr. Lise Deguire, a clinical psychologist who provides counseling and therapy services for individuals, couples and families in and around Pennington, NJ. Lise is also the author of her award-winning memoir “Flashback Girl: Lessons on Resilience From a Burn Survivor.” She happily shared some very important and useful insights on optimism and how to keep your head up when it feels like the last thing you want and are able to do.

“Optimism is a mental mindset that strongly contributes to psychological resilience,” Lise said. She explained further: “We need to be able to imagine positive outcomes to problems in order to be motivated to work on our issues. That does not mean we have to be positive 100% of the time (which is impossible to do anyway). But it is important to be able to conceive positive outcomes instead of dwelling solely on negative outcomes.”

This reminds me of my husband, he is autistic and had a hard time getting jobs in food industry because of his inability to work fast enough. He was actually told once that he would probably fail if he ever tried to do a business himself. Although he finally left trying to work in bakeries, he found an insane love of taking care of animals and now works at a wonderful vet-owned dog training facility that have no problems with his autism

It aggravates me how people automatically think someone with Down Syndrome can't live a normal life. The same with Autism. But I know some wonderful people but can never live on their own. But that still doesn't mean they can't contribute to society.

Completely agree. As with most things, what people with these syndromes can do varies enormously. People should stop assuming and go by each individual's abilities.

Some road races have a cut off time and if you need longer to finish you're on your own. Some race organizers will "sweep" and drive the runners behind the cutoff to the finish line.

It's awful. I loved chatting to the people with whom I didn't normally work with day in, day out if I was staying late or in the office early. I don't know what some people think they have to look down on. Some seem to assume that a person must be lowly in mind because they stupidly look on the job as lowly in status (it is not!) instead of a necessary cog in the machine. Would they want to work in a filthy office? Utter garbage to treat people like that and to make assumptions about them.

I'm a foster child that has moved over 50 times in my life. I got a flu in June that became dangerous. My blood was septic and I was slightly delusional (thought the cat was talking to me). I go to the hospital and from there the convalescent hospital. I continue to pay my part of the rent and benefits bills. My roommate asks me to move out. I'm not on the lease, there's nothing I can do. I have 2 weeks in this hospital. I felt this story so deeply. A home of my own is all I want too. Not to have to walk on egg shells for someone.

AWESOME. Such respect to him, such love for his son too. I know from experience what that is like. I lost everything, physically, emotionally, mentally. I am 3 years and 9 months sober now and it's been a huge mountain to climb.I'm still climbing to be honest, but the view up here is so much sweeter than before.

CA dirty secret... No citizenship for these people, oh but you can slave away all day long. Politicians just have them come over to provide practically slave labor. They do not make close to minimum wage, they do not get benefits at all, they are all "undocumented". We need to find a way to make these people citizens so they are not forced to live this way. They need to be paid what they are worth and have benefits.

The clinical psychologist said that “a good trick, when you find yourself imagining the worst scenario, is to force yourself to also imagine the best possible scenario. So, for example, you might think, ‘What if I lose my job and go bankrupt?’ If you think this, then try asking the opposite. ‘What if I do great at my job, get promoted, become the CEO and a multi-millionaire?’”

Lisa said that neither the worst case or the best-case scenario are likely to happen. “But it helps your brain balance out the tendency to focus solely on the negative.”

Got me thinking. 50 when I finished my MBA, 51 when I started a second wonderful career, 54 when I married the love of my life, 55 when we started traveling to Europe. My wife went back to school at 49 and became a nurse at 54. We both did it to learn something and new and the money came after.

Aw... what matters is that you are doing what your dog wants! My old boy sometimes gives up on longer walks these days as he has dodgy knees and I have to carry him. We've got a doggy carrier because he loves being up at human height and looking around at the world. He's an anxious little fellow so he probably feels very safe. He still gets to come on walks with me and my other dog and I love being able to do that for him. As for Jax 😍🥰

People can be horrible. I lived next to a highway and went out to get the mail and saw two dead kittens on either side of my mailbox. I looked up the road and saw another one. Past it I found another dead kitten, and then, struggling in a puddle in the ditch a live one. Poor thing was sick, but I got her into the vet immediately and we got her well and named her Samantha. She grew into a beautiful calico. I'm still angry for those poor kitten years later.

Why can't people simply spay/neuter their pets? I know of so many vets who'll do this surgery for peanuts when they learn it's a stray you're taking in. There's absolutely no excuse for "throwing" animals away.

That's how I got my tuxedo kitty, Corvus. I was following a white SUV, when I saw them launch something black out of the window. I thought, "Geeze! That's a big piece of trash to just toss outside." As I drove past it... it moved. The white SUV continued on its way, as I turned around to find a scared, but otherwise OK, kitten crawling around on the side of the road. [Plot twist: A kitten jumped out of a white SUV, because he knew I'd rescue him... and life would be better with me.]

Previously, Bored Panda also spoke with Sarah Vero from 'Action for Happiness,' who went into detail about finding real happiness and how to move forward after the exhausting year that we've had. According to her, contrary to what most of us believe, living a life of happiness is not necessarily about a state of permanent and eternal happiness. This is not simply possible.

"Finding real happiness isn't about always seeking a temporary state of feeling good. A lot of what actually makes us happy relates to duty and purpose," she said. Sarah believes that 10 main things to happier living are as follows: “giving, relating, exercising, awareness, trying out, direction, resilience, emotions, acceptance, and meaning.”

It's for academic essays. You refer to the author, or the scientist by the last name as referring to them by the first name is casual and infers that you know the author on a personal level (and to differentiate the author from a character in the book)

Moreover, the creator of ‘Action For Happiness’ believes that “we are likely to be happier if our lives have direction, meaning and purpose and if we are part of something bigger than ourselves." In that sense, we should also think of ways to set ourselves on a more fulfilling path of life by helping others, finding a goal for ourselves, and not just wandering aimlessly.

"Giving or doing things for others is another example. Relating is about being connected to other people and being part of a community. Duty and purpose don't have to be serious things, being part of a cause that you care about or taking part in charity fundraising, all these things make us happy and fulfilled. We should see these things as acts of service that help us to be happy and help other people at the same time. Awareness is about appreciating each moment no matter what we are doing at the time."

Dr. Lasisi should be commended for opening up another path for others to follow. I wish her the best and hope her next employment allows her leadership journey to continue. I'm disappointed it took so long. One of the reasons the Quakers founded Pennsylvania was their belief in human equality and the persecution they were getting for denouncing slavery in England It was the first US state to abolish it in 1780. In 1985, a lawsuit brought against the school by students was the beginning of affirmative action when the Supreme Court agreed it needed to do better. Its a shame that its taken almost 161 years since their founding and 35 years since they were told to straighten up to finally recognize a black person as worthy of studying the human condition. I look forward to following Dr. Lasisi to see where she goes.

I don't know how to express what I mean so sorry in advance if my message is misunderstood but I really have trouble understanding this notion of American culture which says that if a person has 1% black blood, it is 100% black ...? This woman is just mixed race but she "goes black" with all the stereotypes and prejudices that come with it, it's ridiculous (and it's even worse with people who are "obviously very black".

It's known as the "one drop rule" and dates back to slavery. White slave owners liked to rape their black slaves. The law was that anyone with any "black" blood was "black" and therefore a slave. "The term octoroon referred to a person with one-eighth African/Aboriginal ancestry; that is, someone with family heritage equivalent to one biracial grandparent; in other words, one African great-grandparent and seven European great-grandparents. An example was Russian poet Alexander Pushkin." The Dumas family was part black too. You can read about it online. (PS. Notice how Pushkin and the Dumas were all European.)

He keeps trying to get my mom to visit them using great grandma's Alzheimer's. They're only in their 70's though, so they'll probably be alive for their great-great grandkids' birth(s), but I don't think I'll ever let them meet them. And I'm far from having kids XD.

If you have feelings of isolation, burnout, and exhaustion and feel overwhelmed by them, know that you’re not alone. With a pandemic changing our lives beyond recognition, many of us struggle between juggling our responsibilities and slowly returning to the life we knew as normal.

Sarah gave us some tips on how to deal with such emotions, and how to recover our joy in life. First of all, she highlighted the fact that it's perfectly "ok not to be ok," since it's normal to feel isolated and burned out "during a traumatic experience like a pandemic."

The key is not to punish yourself for struggling during these difficult times. Be kind and supportive of yourself, don’t try to make yourself feel better than you really are. Sometimes we become dishonest, hiding our real emotions, with ourselves just like we are with others.

This is sexy, not going to the gym or being handsome. Meanwhile I left a few days and today I have spent the whole morning cleaning because my partner is a man child. He even killed his mother plant (that he agreed on US taking care of) because he apparently needs to be told to water the plants.

This Father And Son Were Treated By The Same Nurse At NICU More Than 30 Years Apart

This Father And Son Were Treated By The Same Nurse At NICU More Than 30 Years Apart

So as many of you may know, our son was born 10 weeks early at St. Peters hospital and has been in the NICU ever since (he's doing amazing btw!). What some of you may not know is that his father (my amazing fiancee) was also born about 6 weeks early at the same hospital! Last Sunday, he dug out his baby book to show me. As I was looking through, I came across a picture of him as a baby and a lady holding him. I knew that lady!! I immediately asked him who she was and he confirmed that she was the nurse who took care of him during his stay in the NICU and his mom loved her so much that she needed a photo of the two of them on the day he was discharged! Well, the reason I know her is because I swore she was the nurse that had been taking care of our baby boy for the past three days! David didn't believe me. We brought the picture to the hospital where 3 other nurses confirmed it was her! Yesterday (Valentine's Day) she was back at work and taking care of our little nugget again so we had to recreate the picture! The past 2 weeks have been filled with worries and uncertainty but we can breathe easy knowing my lil nuggets nurse is the same one that helped the man I love when he was in the same situation.

This reminds me of the story about a doctor who went above and beyond to care for a premature baby with very low survival odds, and was rewarded when the baby made it. Years later the doctor gets into a serious car wreck, and the paramedic who saved his life was that same baby, all grown up. Aww.

This is a very happy example of what goes around comes around. The joy of caring for and helping a little one to live went all the way around to caring for the nugget of the baby she cared for. Life truly does work in mysterious ways. Nuggets born that early have difficulty maintaining their body temperature. When they're outside the warm incubator they must be kept warm. I love that they're doing that with the cutest little pants and suspenders.

Sarah from ‘Action for Happiness’ suggested: "Don't be down on yourself for struggling, most people are in the same boat. If we admit that we are struggling, we can start to take steps to get better. Don't suffer alone, talk to friends and family, let them know what's going on, and make time for meaningful conversations.”

Most importantly, nobody starts from just becoming happy, you start from taking small and simple steps to support your mental health. It takes time and patience, just like all good things. “Are you getting the basics right? Eat healthy food, get enough sleep, and daily exercise. Take time for yourself, go outside and be in nature, notice the way the seasons are changing at the moment. Plan time in your diary to do something you love like creating art or music," Sarah said.

I’m Not Sure Who This Man Is. We Took All 6 Kids To Eat At Fernandos And All Brekken Wanted Was To Eat With Him

I’m sure this man just wanted to eat his meal in peace but Brekken had other plans. He was continuously crying and as I got up to take him to the car this man asked to get him. Brekken instantly stopped crying and sat and ate chips and salsa and had a conversation with him until he was ready to go. Brekken was completely content and told him bye like he had known him his whole life. It’s the small things! So, if you know him, please tell him again I said thank you. He didn’t have to do what he did but completely made Brekken’s whole day.

It’s so cool how kids will randomly fixate on someone, for reasons only they know (not logical to adults), and will totally calm down and hold whole conversations with them. Is it because they’ve never seen someone like them? Or that they kinda-sorta look like, or act, or speak like someone the kid knows? Or is it some kind of psychic sense about them, or connection with them? All of us adults have gotten too old, and have long forgotten why kids do this. Guess we should start asking them about it, instead of trying to keep them from doing it, to find out.

Sobriety looks great on you! Clear eyes, great skin, the general appearance of contentment. Congratulations, keep on keepin' on! As an aside, it can often be difficult for addicted individuals to establish control over their substance abuse, not only because of the addictive properties of various products, but as well because of the tendency of "friends" from that life wanting to pull you back in. This is especially true for illegal substances like cocaine, meth, and heroin. I wish our society were better prepared and more compassionate with regards to treatment and attitudes, but, well, 'Merka.

There is nothing wrong with gender norms. Every society known to man has gender norms. It's something the species evolved to have. The problem is when everyone is FORCED to fit into it. Consider the Lakota. Most men were warriors. Most women were not. But if a woman wanted to fight, up she got on her horse and she fought. No issues there.

He could have shouting matches with my Patterdale! Noisiest little dude I've ever met. Today a friend commented 'he does seem to have a lot to say, and so loudly'. He's scared of so much sadly. Today I walked away from an encounter with another dog owner saying to him 'you really don't need to shout at all the other dogs, they're bound to be lovely if you gave them a chance' and reading this made me smile - I've always worried people would think (or realise) I was the local nutter!

I've always talked to my dogs and cats.Recently I noticed that my cat was not eating all of her "lunch". I informed her that I was not feeding her the wet food until she asked me to. (Rubs her head against my leg) I'll even do it in public when I meet up with a doggie at the store or vets. I'll ask them what their name is. The men in the white coats are coming to take me away later this afternoon. (Men in the white coats is a reference to a popular song in the 60's)

It makes me forget about the last 5 years of her dementia and the struggles. She was a sweet loving woman and knew I'd need this.

It will obviously be hard for our kids when we pass, but we want to make it as easy as possible for them (which has included making a will).

My dad left us his "Layaway Plan," which was a to-do list, along w/ contact information for the funeral home and cemetery. He knew how hard it would be when he was gone. Seven years later and it's still hard.

Dementia takes away the people who they were. My grandma is going down that path too. It's hard, but the memories of her still stay the same. Kind. Loving. Nobody can take that away from us.

I was watching my cousin's grandkid, 4, and I took him to the store. He told me to put on my mask (which I was getting out of my purse at the time) because if you didn't have a mask on then the "Crona Pirates" could get you. If you had your mask on, the Crona Pirates couldn't see your face and weren't able to get you if they don't know who you are. I don't know who explained this to him, but I love it.

My husband and I flew with our son from Virginia to Washington State. The guy in front of us was a soldier who just returned home from serving over seas and was heading to his hometown to spend time with family. How do I know this? Because the little 7 year old girl that was sharing the row with him asked twenty questions and they had a rousing conversation about their favorite Disney movies and singers. She also asked him a lot about the places he'd been to. He looked like he was tired, but he let her keep going with a smile on his face. As we stepped off the plane I turned to him and said "Thank you for taking the time to talk to her. I learned a lot!" And he laughed.

I like kids but sometimes am really not in the mood for them. Like we feel like ogres at restaurants b/c we don't want to be seated by kids. But the thing is if we get seated by kids, we'll be interacting with them our whole meal b/c that is always how it ends up. For some reason, kids love my husband and I and we can't help doing things like making faces at them to make them laugh, etc. We also tend to interact with all animals we meet. Sometimes you just want a quiet meal out but don't time it right.

Single Mother Dressed Up As A Dad, So The Kid Wouldn’t Miss Donuts With Dad Day

Single Mother Dressed Up As A Dad, So The Kid Wouldn’t Miss Donuts With Dad Day

Today at my son Elijah's school, as I was dropping him off, I asked him why there were so many cars. He said "donuts with dad", so we quickly went back home because I wasn't about to let him miss out. I know seeing other dads with their kids isn't easy for mine but its life, at least I can do whatever it takes to put a smile on that face, so here it goes.

The school I work in did this before Covid, but we had 'Muffins with Mom', 'Donuts with Dad', and 'Goodies with Grandparents and Guardians' to ensure every kid could attend at least one of the events. For our school, it was a way to get family members into the school by giving them a free breakfast.

... does she come out of it alone? I don't mean to offend, but it looks like it's a hard time getting in and out ... as these are made for children, and the elderly, usually, aren't that bendable anymore, ... but, let's aside that for a moment - cool!

I wish I could know which coworkers are not vaccinated so I could keep more distance. As I have small kids that can't be vaccinated, I just have to keep back from all. Probably solid advice anyway.

The color coding is wrong. Red should be green and green should be red. The pandemic is still raging and hugging is still high on the NONO-list.
