Love the post, but why was it necessary to mention old and black as part of the description?

Being surrounded by pleasant and helpful neighbors can have a profoundly positive impact on one’s health. This is according to findings during a survey conducted by the Australian National University in 2020, during the height of the pandemic.
The study’s lead author, Dr. James O’Connell, concluded that healthy neighborhood relationships protected people from loneliness, anxiety, and depression during those days in isolation.
Well Done
Now that’s restored my faith in human kindness ❤️that said I’m on a mega low income n disabled ,in the sticks , n I get WiFi ,via a social tariff ,via sky ,id be lost without it LITTERALLY lol so that is a wonderful thing your doing op ,
My neighbour uses my WiFi, we have a bit of a barter thing going on with all sorts of things.
I did that for a long time with groceries and my parents. We both had households of 4 people (mine was me, my husband, and 2 kids; hers was her, my dad, her elderly uncle, and her dad), so we'd buy certain things in bulk and just swap.

Load More Replies...I used to do something similar for the elderly man next door. He was independent, apart from when we had snow. He was too unsteady on his feet to safely leave the house. I would make a big pot of soup, and take round a bowl for him each day. We'd also walk his dog and collect his newspaper.
A lot of older people really struggle with loneliness. Something this simple can help them stay connected!

Similar behavior we have in this residential building that houses elderly, disabled, and low-income people. We are always sharing food with one another.
"Neighbourhood cohesiveness is a really important social glue; it keeps us connected and supports our wellbeing in everyday life and during a crisis,” Dr. O’Connell said.
The study’s co-author, Professor Kate Reynolds, concurred with Dr. O’Connell, emphasizing the importance of investing in social infrastructures and addressing social cohesion, especially during times of crisis.
Didn’t Expect Much Putting Out A Sign. My Neighborhood Is Slowly Putting Out The Same Message In Solidarity
I know it's not much in the grand scheme of the things but I put out a sign in my lawn to send a message to others my opinion that this isn't normal, that this is not okay and that empathy is the path towards the great. I was not sure how my neighbors would respond given that no one really puts out political signs here. My neighbor's showed up though! They put out their own and everyday I see another house with a sign. I know, I know... it's just a sign. It's not much. It's not enough... It's not going to fix anything. But in a diverse community, seeing this means a lot that we are all standing together in solidarity.
Say it louder for Republicans/Christians/conservatives. There's only one voting block in America whose people would share a pew with a klansman over an immigrant and it ain't mine.

It’s not difficult to be the pleasant neighbor that everyone wants to have. In fact, it is found to be a key to boosting a person’s well-being. A 2023 Gallup survey found that individuals who regularly greet their neighbors tend to be happier.
Gallup’s research director for national health and well-being, Dan Witters, specified that the “sweet spot” would be greeting six people “regularly.”

Sweet Dog Mojo
This is Mojo. He and his sister Lilly just moved into the neighborhood. Lilly is very friendly, but Mojo is a little nervous around new people. As a result, he would bark at everyone who passed by his house. To help him overcome his fears and to show everyone he’s truly a good boy, his human put out a sign and a bucket of balls to help him make friends. Within one hour, a neighbor walking by stopped and played fetch with Mojo. “It’s worked so well and the neighborhood loves it,” his human told us. He no longer tries to chase the mailman either. He brings him a ball and puts his front two paws on the fence, waiting for pets and for him to throw the ball.
Mojo is a good boi! Just needed to know not everyone passing by is bad! Especially the mailman.
That’s Amazing
When I was 10-11 a neighbor's dog gave birth to a litter of pups and I got one. I named her "Cocoa" because of her color. Fast forward a few months and some new neighbors moved into the house next door. They had a son (let's call him Jimmy), year or so younger than me. Despite being physically and cognitively OK according to doctors, he had never spoken a word in his life. He understood and even nodded yes and no but never spoke. Nowadays he'd be diagnosed on the autism spectrum. Anyway Jimmy and I got along fine and we frequently hung out together in each other's yards playing mostly with Cocoa. One day his parents were getting ready to take him somewhere--the doctor's I think--and his mom called him to come to the house. AND JIMMY SAID AS PLAIN AS YOU AND ME "I don't wanna go there, I wanna play with Cocoa." These were the first words he had ever uttered in his life. After that he blossomed quickly and eventually went on to do quite well in life.
❤️❤️❤️❤️now that is priceless ,a memory you will never forget ,hugs to you all and to that wonderful neighbour to x blessed be
my grandson has Duchenne's (muscular dystrophy)-related autism--one night he was at his usual, parroting our words, and if we were lucky, giving one word answers. The very next night, he was spitting out full sentences! Only a couple, but I was so overjoyed and excited that I cried too! little steps give the biggest joys!
So he just stoppede beeing severely autistic? My cousin is severely autistic and she can not sudently speak just because there is some thing she really wants to do. They can learn to speak but it takes a lot of therapy and they will kot go from 1 word to 9 words from ine moment to another
Have you ever stopped to consider that individual people have individual conditions? Autism is called a spectrum because each individual is different.

A Little Community Goes A Long Way
Maybe put some of the money you spent on drying towards her for a bit.
I moved into a two apartment house and the other people didn't have a washer and dryer. I told them they could use it. the only rule I had was don't touch my clothes. if they' needed to use it they were supposed to ring my door. of course they didn't. several times they put my wet laundry on the top of the dryer. and frequently pieces fell on the dirty basement ground. I gave them 3 chances and they kept doing it..the arrogance some of these people have. instead of being happy they did what they wanted. and of course they didn't stop washing their stuff. so I moved the washer and dryer somewhere else.
Some people cannot behave in a social way. Don't let this doubt the rest, you will have better folks around again.

Very touching. I think we forget about the impact we have on others, family, friends, and total strangers. When I see the age differences it makes me wonder how much richness and knowledge we miss out on when we don't reach out to the elderly. They suffer in silence and watch us as we go about our lives. Yet we don't go out of our way to visit them and have some conversation.
This is one thing I like about going to my church. You have people of all ages (though mostly older) mixing. We have 'coffee connections' once a month mid week where we also get some who don't come to church otherwise and we sit and eat and drink and talk about a chosen topic. It's great to hear the memories from when the older ones were younger and them sharing advice.

My parents wouldn't let me have a dog when I was a kid. However one of our neighbors allowed me to me walk their dog Sunny any time I wanted to. The Ramp The Firefighters Are Building For My Wife Who Has ALS
My wife was diagnosed with ALS in November of 2024. I won’t go into details. She is the nicest person you could ever meet, I feel lucky to know her let alone marry her. We have 2 kids/teens and we live on the north shore of Mass. Make no mistake this disease is devastating, but the kindness. support and generosity we have received from the community has been overwhelming. In a good way. I will spend the rest of my life trying to pay everyone back. This ramp is an example ,some firefighters from Lynn and some people from our town decided the fundraise and build a much needed ramp for our house. Even in the worst of times there is still good in this world, I’m looking at it right now out my front window, all I can say is thank you and I will be paying this back in one way or another.

There Is A Young Autistic Gentleman In My Neighborhood That Likes To Come Over About Twice A Week And Look At My Old Car. Apparently The Only Time He Speaks Is When He's Around My Car
Please forgive and correct any possible ignorance. Question: when an autistic person finds their "thing" does it just click? Is it conscious, or just an activity/thing you're inexplicably drawn to? How prevalent is having a singular focus? Stereotypically, autistic people are really good at their interests, are there austic people that are "savants" at something but suck at it?
I don't know, but my friend's autistic son has been fascinated with vacuum cleaners since he was 2 years old. His parents buy old ones. He takes them apart & puts them back together.

Someone Built A Tiny Bridge Over A Tiny Creek In My Neighborhood
Someone put a lot of work into that bridge!! In my neighbourhood, people have thrown a couple of 2x6's across a couple of little streams. Every little bit helps!
My dad and I did this when I was a kid. There's a creek between my parents' house and the next door neighbor. I was friends with the girls who lived there and it was a shortcut - rather than going out to the street and down their driveway. Our bridge lasted over 20 years.
Interesting side comment (well, I hope that at least one other person finds it interesting): in British English the word ‘creek’ is only used to refer to a small water course that is running out to sea (I know they’re all heading that way, but we only have creeks near the shore). Nobody knows why English people that migrated to America started using the work to refer to inland little water courses. They had so many other words to chose from, such as beck, brook, or stream. We even have a name for water courses that are dry during the summer and only have running water during the winter:- a winterbourne.
I find that interesting, Roxy. I'm an English person interested in word meanings and origins. Near Bristol, UK, there is a town called Winterbourne.

On a related note, every homeowner or home renter ought to know where the water main shutoff is for their home. Its usually near the property line closest to the road, as that's where a utility worker would have fast access to it if needed. Its most helpful to know for people that live in a house because there could be a time where pipes burst inside your home and you want ALL the water turned off until you can repair the pipes. You also need to buy a certain wrench from a hardware store to turn the handle on the valve. I believe there is a YouTube video on where to find the shutoff valve and what tool is needed

My mum setting up a lawn chair at the end of the driveway (eventhough we had a beautiful backyard) and started knitting - pretty soon to be followed by at least 3 other ladies knitting or crochetting... Clearing snow in the street which ended up with mounts of snow on the side, all the guys together, bottles of all kinds of booze in the snowmounts... the aftermath took longer than the actual clearance... We moved in 'only' in 1969 when I was 3 but hell, does this seem long ago.
You’re Rich
Muumuus are the original leisure outfits-when its too early to get into your jammies but you just want to slob around the house!
Oh do, I can recommend it, they can also be elegant. And if you wear one as a nightie, then if the fire alarm goes off in the middle of the night you are perfectly decent.

The Good Hearted People In My Neighborhood Set Up And Regularly Donate To A Free Community Book Exchange
Wow!! This is huge! There are a couple of little libraries that have just kids books, too.
My neighbour has a "little library" at the end of their driveway. It's much smaller than this, but always full of ever-changing books. I use it quite a lot both as donor and donee

My Widowed 88-Year-Old Mil Is Flirting With Her New Neighbor
New guy just moved in next door to her in her assisted living facility. He’s a spry 89 years old and she said he was ‘cute’ so she went ahead and secretly left him some cookies on his doorway shelf. She can’t wait for the next piano and wine night so she can ask him to dance.

My Elderly Neighbors Have Taken To Me And My Husband
It says: "“Hello Neighbors:
We are wondering how to get in contact with you folks so that we can drop off a couple of tomatoes?- wouldn’t want to put them in your mailbox!! :)”
We have a gate, so they couldn’t just bring them to the door. They brought us over all of this!
They’ve been married for 65 years.
I think that writing looks like everyone's grandmas 🤣

So Our Neighbor Just Gifted Us $200
It was our next door neighbor since my wife saw one of them knocking on our front door while we were cleaning. We obviously went over and thanked them, introducing ourselves since we hadn't talked to them before. Apparently they're relatively new to the neighborhood and wanted to give us a holiday gift.
BP needs to reduce celeb news by 90% and increase positive news and stories to fill the gap.
You're absolutely right. With all the bad things happening the world really needs good news (even if it's 'only' the small things)! I upvoted every single one of them.
Load More Replies...My previous neighbour (she's since passed away, RIP) baked me cookies and slices regularly for helping her with a fencing issue with our adjoining neighbours. She was an amazing baker, by the way. She would also take my bins in if I hadn't got to them due to finishing work late, and we'd have good conversations about her grandkids, life; just anything, really. She was the best neighbour I've had. The neighbour I have now is the one that avoids introvert me (trust me love; feeling's mutual, lol) and won't leave the house until she can hear I've gone. But she's quiet and otherwise innocuous. Only thing I could think of to 'complain about' would be she leaves bags of dog poop by her front door, where they get baked in the sun and stink. But obviously that's on the lower end of neighbour issues.
My two neighbours and I have an ongoing competition to bring the wheelie bins back in. They go out on Tuesday evening, and the bin men arrive about 7-7.15am. The first neighbour up is usually no. 7, and he started bringing in ours and no. 5's, so no.5 and I got him a little "Bin Angel" trophy made. Its now turned into a very silly race lying in wait for the bin men and bringing the bins in, and the Bin Angel changes hands occasionally and is proudly displayed on the doorstep.
It is such a pleasure to read about neighbors that are helping, rather than insults and threats!!!!
My elderly neighbour has been feeding the local cats for the last week. Nobody is sure when he actually passed.
I feel "sorry" for Karens and Kens; it must have been difficult to fight againist this kindness.
Though, where is the weed (grass) pic? wholesome-..._700-1.jpg
Did I miss that?
