If not for the three grey hairs peeking out, I’d feel as fresh as new. It seems like only yesterday we’d drink Capri Sun, burn CDs and listen to the Smashing Pumpkins. Speaking of the latter, kids these days call it “dad rock,” and how can you blame them?

The oldest of Gen Z, aka the newest generation that was born between 1997 and 2012, is now 24. No, it’s not you who are 24, it’s the kids who have no clue what “pick up the phone'' means.

So today, we’re diving deep into the world of no illusion, ready to face one fact we all dread (hence the booming skincare industry among millennials!)—we are old. Thanks to the corner of Reddit ‘Heck I’m Old,’ we have a collection of posts to make you feel not just old, but rather ancient. “When you look at kids nowadays and see their music you can't help but think of how everything is old,” says the group’s description and from what you see below, they ain’t lying.

If you ever feel like time is passing at the pace of a hadron collider, you can be sure you’re not the only one. Most of us feel that the passage of time is inevitable, and that it only makes us older (but also wiser, more confident and happy overall!).

Having said that, it's no secret that our modern society is obsessed with freezing and even turning back time. This ageing paranoia that’s sweeping across our society has been heavily fueled by social media, where young folks constantly put pressure on achievements, looks, and everything, really. Its competitive nature shows that someone is doing better and has accomplished more by your age than you have.

I was visiting a friend and the phone rang. My friend was busy in the kitchen so I answered. (Remember when the one phone in the house was stuck to the wall?) The guy who was calling started bragging about his stereo and I shot him down and hung up. 20 min later he knocked on the door. 30 years later and we're still married. The stereo tower still resides with us.

Still have our fine rack with our records on the lower Shell, just like we have dvd’s and CD’s and BOOKS - we are in our 70’ties now and have no desire to change any of it. You Can keep your Netflix and HBO and the like - and I still go with my friends to the Cinema to watch a movie from time to time - that’s LIFE for me.

Our family sort of stopped using ours past 2009 except for cleaning house on the weekend. Streaming got cheaper than disks and tapes, and with an iPod you could put on headphones and still hear your music over the vacuum. Have a setup in my apartment that I haven't used since 4 years ago for a DVD.

Whatever happened to people playing music for more than just one person? If you did, I guarantee this thing sounds better than a phone plugged into a tiny speaker over in the corner. Yeah, always though I'd get a good stereo like this and have people over. Never had people over :-( Now, listening to music is a private affair, like masturbation.

I had several of these over the years. Each one becoming smaller and better quality. Just realizing I don't have one now because we don't need them anymore, really. Guess I'd get another should I ever have another media room but that would prob be the only reason.

I am not an audio-phile but have been informed by some that the non-digital circuits and spacing of the components meant less internal interference. As well. the large well built speakers of a high end system like Bose or Klipsch are still superior in sound quality to the all-in-one systems of today. Even MP3's play back more clearly on the old stuff (again not an AP, but when demonstrated to me, I was sure I could head greater depth and clarity)

I treated myself to a stereo like that in the early 90's and was deemed totally crazy by my parents then for spending nearly all of my savings. I think the fact that I still use it (of course I added some gadgets like digital radio, bluetooth and internet access) suggests otherwise.

That was the stereo I had, until I lost it in storage when I became homeless. I had a catastrophic miscarriage, doc said I needed to rest in bed or die from hemorrhaging, and my boss fired me, saying that if I didn't want to work those hours, she'd give them to someone else. She'd just had a baby. The month prior, I arrived at work to find her sitting in the hallway crying because she was having premature contractions and was afraid they'd fire her if she left work to go to the hospital. I sat with her, held her hand and had her do some relaxing deep breathing that stopped her contractions and probably saved her baby. When she fired me, I lost my home, my car and my university degree because I had to drop out mid semester in my senior year and it was too late to withdraw with permission so I was given failing grades in all my classes. I was homeless for 8 years after that; there were no programs to help people like me, a middle class white woman. Have to stop, my PTSD is triggered.

Being scared of ageing is not only nothing new, it seems like it creeps into the minds of younger generations obsessed with anti-ageing life choices earlier than ever in history. In 2018, a report from the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) found that millennials felt the most negatively towards ageing, viewing it as a steep decline and assuming dementia and loneliness as inevitable.

In some extreme cases where fear of getting older interferes with your life, doctors diagnose people with gerascophobia. “Gerascophobia sufferers have very frequent thoughts about changes in their appearance due to ageing and increasingly losing control over their life as they get older. These thoughts trigger panic attacks, shortness of breath, sweating and shaking," Dr. Rose Aghdami, a consulting and coaching psychologist, told Refinery29.

"Their behavior is affected too, as they often avoid certain activities which remind them of ageing, withdraw from social contact, and become more isolated."

The RSPH has also urged people to stop using the term 'anti-ageing' popularized by the beauty industry, since it could be putting pressure on women to see ageing as something inherently detrimental. Another 2017 study found that 30% of women under 35 were regularly using anti-wrinkle products, a fact that’s so obvious when browsing through social media that you don’t need a survey for it

To cushion the blow, pine trees grow quickly. Ours went from 1 foot to 10 feet in less than 10 years.

No, those must be an American thing. We have double desks in Germany, with two kids sharing one desk and they still look the same now as they did in the 90ies.

I love scratch and sniff stickers. Who remembers when magazines had an advertisement for perfume and it had a scratch and sniff sample of the perfumes scent. I thought they were awesome.

Well, be honest, in USA is more things celebrated as historical. Once i was on a police station in small city near New York and on the walls was a sign, something like “rich history of the town Sayreville” and there was a date “incorporated in 1920”. Yes, my milk in fridge is older and have richer history 😀😀 No offense though, i know America is really young compared to Europe ☺️
