Here’s A Vintage Photo Collection Of Strange Men’s Hairstyles Throughout The Centuries
We associate men's fashion of past centuries with class and neatness. When we look at those times, we're used to seeing tidy facial hair, slick pomades, fancy hats, and suits. Today's post will change the perception a little bit. Well, in terms of hair, at least. For there have always been fashion renegades, or just people with bad hair days, or just bad hair in general.
Robert E. Jackson is an avid collector of vintage photography. He has over three thousand photos in his collection. He either got them anonymously, or sought them out, but in any case, he has ownership of all of them. The vast collection has many peculiar images, some of which we show to you today.
He shares vintage photos spanning from the early days of photography to the late 20th century, where you can see the strange hairstyles of men. They're definitely not what we expect of those times in terms of men's hairstyles. The rhyme and reason for having such hairstyles eludes us, and there's not much that we can do to find out, but they definitely spark some curiosity.

The collection is also useful to see how fashion has evolved over the centuries. Though some of these shown hairstyles didn't fit into their time, they would probably be pretty cool nowadays, and some of them are trendy, or at least acceptable. Some of them are just... well, terrible, and will never become trendy. But who knows?...
The guy on the right has great hair! I wore mine like that in the 90s.
If you like this collection by Robert E. Jackson, you're probably going to like his other photos of the olden days. Though his Instagram has a modest followership of 4.8k followers, his collection is anything but modest. So check him out, and see what other kinds of peculiar images you can find! There's much to see: from strange portraits to nostalgic Americana. It's safe to say that it's a true chronicle of amateur American photography.
I can't decide if this is more "Little Rascals" or "the Three Stooges"...
Idk this was ever a style. Never seen it. Obviously there's a few pics with this cut.
Don't let the glasses fool you. He's going to tie your daughter to some train tracks.
I remember kids getting their hair like this...in funny shapes too. Ahh the late 80s- 90s
Okay but nowhere as crazy as women's beehives or '80s bangs. Just saying, I saw a pic in my mom's yearbook from 1965 and was laughing at how huge this girl's beehive was and my mom straight up says " yeah she would hide her switchblade in it" WTF 😂
Love this!! Some of these were really not that weird--but maybe it's just the more I looked at them, the more normal they looked.
Too bad there were no dates on these. I'd be interested to know when these were considered "fashionable" hair styles.
