It's said, "to each their own," and this saying also applies to the food we eat. Still, if someone saw us dipping French fries into ice cream or a milkshake, we would risk getting a "bombastic side eye" from a passerby.
Ironically, this is one of the least weird food combos that exist in the world! Blame a spike in hormones, call it a guilty pleasure or exquisite taste, but many of these so-called strange food combos actually work and are enjoyed by many. Even served in fine-dining restaurants!
It's known that salty foods go so well with sweet ones; hence, no wonder many weird but good food combos involve pairing the two. However, how weird can the weird get? We could probably agree that the weirdest food combos don't seem like they can co-exist on the same plate or be in one's mouth simultaneously. And having to eat those together might sound like a TikTok challenge that could go viral.
Though certain weird combinations of food can upset your stomach and cancel your later-day plans, not all weird food combinations are a strict no-go and, once tried, might become a staple in your diet regime! We are not implying you should be pouring maple syrup over your bacon, but at the same time, you could!
If you are open to discovering crazy food combinations that some people swear by and actually see yourself trying something new, keep on scrolling. Below, we've compiled some of the weirdest food combinations that will either excite your taste buds or make you question (again) where humanity went wrong. And if you aren't picky about your food pairings or have a stomach of steel, who knows, you might find a dinner option there!
Tried any of these weird food pairings? Give them an upvote! Perhaps there's a weird food combo you encounter often, yet it hasn't been mentioned in the list? Let us know in the comments!

Watermelon And Salt
If you haven't tried this combination, you would assume that salt will dry up the watery, sweet flavor of the watermelon. The exact opposite, though, is true. Apparently, a dash of salt can actually improve the taste of the watermelon's inherent sweetness!
This is the only way I eat watermelon. Also, regular doritoes with slices of white american cheese melted on top is the best.
Or if you want to kick it up a notch sprinkle some Tianjin chili lime seasoning on your watermelon. Sweet, salty, sour, and a touch of heat - heaven!
My mom ate watermelon like this and it's very good. I enjoy it as well, though I like watermelon any way I can get it really. It's my favorite fruit.
Makes sense, given how popular watermelon and salty feta is as a combo
My mom always does this. The more that I see this fact on BP, the more it makes me want to try it myself.
That's how my Mom did it in the 60's and that's what I've always done, though when the watermelon is perfectly ripe, I don't.
Brie And Jam Sandwich
This may be our favorite strange food pairing on the list! The combination of sweet jam and brie's complex flavor profile that goes well with both sweet and savory flavors is divine!
Cheese and jam is a fairly normal pairing in my book. And not just brie, any strong cheese. Stilton and cranberry sauce is another one you should try.
You can get loads of cheeses with fruit pieces already mixed in, like Stilton with apricot, and Stilton with cranberries, it's definitely a standard combination.
Load More Replies...Why should this be a weird combo? Jam is often served as a condiment when you order a cheese platter, even in France.
Cheese and fruits are often very yummy as a combination. See nothing wrong with this post
Oooo we have something like this at a restaurant here in Texas except it's blueberry, it's amazing!
Prosciutto And Melon
Prosciutto with melon is a traditional Italian appetizer that combines sweet and salty flavors gracefully. Both the food and the presentation are lovely and colorful. Though cantaloupe is the most common melon used, we believe honeydew would complement it just as well.
The combination is a blast, especially on really hot days when you don't feel really hungry but need some energy never the less. I love it and eat it at least once a week during summer (Italy). But just at the time, when cantaloupes have season and are cheap and of good quality.
That's a very common and traditional way of serving, in France and Italy that I know of, possibly Spain as well. Became popular in the UK from the 1970s onwards.
You are right. That's melon con jamón very typical dish in Spain in summer months!
Load More Replies...Strawberries With Balsamic Vinegar And Black Pepper
Strawberries served with balsamic vinegar provide a unique, gourmet touch to this beautiful summer fruit. Apparently, it's a popular ice cream and milkshake flavor in fancy restaurants! (Haven't been to one, so can't confirm.)
It works the same way as strawberries and pepper, changing the flavour to make the strawberries more sweet. Also, my favourite balsamic vinegar is an Australian raspberry balsamic.
One of my favorite salads is: top a bed of spring mix with drizzled olive oil and slices of goat cheese. Drizzle with chopped figs soaked in heated balsamic vinegar (kind of like poached) and sliced strawberries. Add pistachios.
This was a trend around 2005 +. I tried it, it's just really awful. I've not seen this combination in years, since the trend ran out.
No, I've tried it and it's not nice. I love balsamic vinegar as part of salad dressing or dips and it's lovely, but not with strawberries. Same as black pepper and strawberries-just awful.
Cottage Cheese And Pineapple
Right, so apparently, one of our morning staples is considered an odd food combination! And honestly, the pairing of creamy and sour cottage cheese with acidic and sweet pineapple is superb. But we also don't mind pineapple on pizza, which explains things.
Just about any fruit pairs well with cottage cheese. It's a common thing here in the south.
Butter And Sugar Sandwiches
Creamy butter spread over a hot slice of toasted fresh bread is yum-my and can stand for a quick, on-the-go snack. But with sugar? Though unusual, we can see the potential of this white bread, butter, and sugar combo as a spin on traditional French toast.
We mixed sugar and cinnamon then sprinkled that on buttered toast...... delicious!
wow. I also lived wit it, back in the 60's. the cinnamon sugar was always on the counter next to the toaster. It occurs to that we used conjecturers sugar, it coated and stuck better.
Load More Replies...I love to get a piece of toast and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar and butter 😋👌
I've tried this one. Also sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and broil in the oven for just a few minutes to make cinnamon toast.
I've been putting sugar and cinnamon on my buttered toast since childhood.
Grilled Cheese With Apples
The pairing of sweet and savory flavors just naturally complements one another. Give this odd meal combo a try the next time you're in the mood for something a bit unusual!
There's a cheese from Yorkshire called Wensleydale , and it goes sooo well with fruits.
Wensleydale is also perfect with fruit cake, especially Christmas cake (not the type with marzipan or icing though).
Load More Replies...Granny Smith apples go better with extra sharp cheddar in my opinion.
That sounds delish. though not american cheese, a nice sharp white cheddar would be perfect
Grilled Pineapple And Tabasco Sauce
Interestingly, if someone randomly suggested this combo to us, we would be dubious. On the other hand, if we saw it on a fancy restaurant's menu, we would be instantly drawn to try it out. Not sure why, but that's the truth.
One if the best snacks in parts of asia is fruit with chilli salt.
Same in some parts of Hispanic culture - delicious!!
Load More Replies...A tried and trusted combo. Pineapple and tajin/chamoy is really popular in Mexican cuisine.
Champagne And Watermelon
Since strawberry is a popular garnish for alcoholic beverages, we don't find this pairing weird, though definitely unusual. Apparently, it's also a thing to soak watermelon cubes in champagne for about 24 hours and then have those served with chopped mint. Actually sounds rather appealing for summer!
Frozen watermelon in white wine 😙🤌 It chills the wine and you're left with a bit of alcoholic watermelon after to snack on 🤤🥴
Popcorn And Marshmallows
Honestly, popcorn and marshmallows sound like a delicious combination, especially given how much we love these delights separately!
Not sure about the marshmallows, but throwing a handful of M&Ms into a warm bag of popcorn is a pretty awesome combo
Popcorn mixed with melted marshmallows is how you make popcorn balls. You can add other candies to the mix too for a delicious treat.
I enjoy popcorn balls on occasion but I don't care for marshmallow alone and unmelted. My favorite popcorn add ins are pickled jalapenos and nacho cheese! Every time I go to the theater, I order nachos with no chips just for the cheese then ask for a courtesy cup filled with jalapenos.... 😋
Strawberries, Sour Cream, And Brown Sugar
The latest fad in healthy breakfasts consists of plain Greek yogurt with a drizzle of honey and chopped fresh fruit. But sour cream? Honestly, using sour cream instead of Greek yogurt doesn't appear to be a wild substitution, given that the two have virtually comparable flavors.
We used to do this all the time, as an snack or dessert back in the 80s. Makes me want to have it again.
I used to love this as a kid in the '80s too (and sometimes now), my mom would make it. But this picture looks weird to me, because I've always seen the sugar mix directly into the sour cream to make like a dipping sauce for the strawberries. This picture makes it look kind of sandy/crunchy and unpleasant.
Load More Replies...Blueberries And Steak
This unusual pairing of flavors may support the cliche that opposites attract. We are not saying to drizzle your filet mignon with blueberries. However, reducing blueberries by also adding balsamic vinegar and sugar might result in a jaw-dropping steak sauce.
Fruit has always been served with meat, it goes back years. Duck and orange, turkey and cranberry, pork and apple, chicken and lemon, game like venison, grouse or pheasant with blackberries or sour cherries.
Goose roasted with apples and prunes (stop making that face, it's good!).
Load More Replies...Melt a little bit of crumbled blue cheese over a steak and then top it with grilled pear slices it's sensational!
Cheddar Cheese And Apple Pie
Apple pie with cheese has a long history. Perhaps you love it. Perhaps you hate it. Maybe you’ve never tried it. Still, it is so adored that many people believe the classic dessert would be incomplete without it!
My mom never understood this and would try to serve us apple pie with American cheese which is the wrong flavor profile, wrong texture, but even worse, she wouldn't even use the kind made with milk fats but made with vegetable oil. It definitely has its uses; I'm not an American cheese hater, but it is disgusting on apple pie.
Load More Replies...Pear and gruyere pie is absolutely delicious. Again, fruit and cheese generally go great together
Bloody Mary And Steak
We don't simply mean ordering the two things together. No, many recipes actually combine the two, with the meat being marinated in a Bloody Mary-like concoction. Apparently, the delicious drink tenderizes the beef perfectly and infuses the steak with rich flavor.
DNA anaylsis of Beethoven's hair finds he might have died from liver disease or Hepatitis A. I think he died from eating something like this.
Ice Cream And Fries
To discover this combo, one must have accidentally dropped their fry in the ice cream and thought, “damn, that’s actually good!” And although you may be ordering those separately, you have definitely eaten them simultaneously. Well, we did. Solid 8/10.
I used to love eating crinkle cut fries and thick chocolate milkshake
McDonalds fries, Dipped in McDonalds Milkshake (flavor of your choice) the salt and sweet just works...
I knew I wasn't the only one who would dip my French fries in my Wendy's frosty
Sausage Pork With Gummy Bears
Whoever came up with this — who hurt you?
I can kinda see it.... it's a play on sweet, salty, and savory. But not sure how the texture would work.
Popcorn And A Glass Of Wine
How is that a weird food combination? A glass of wine with popcorn epitomizes an ideal movie night! Even better if you are watching a chick flick. Honestly, they should offer this combo in movie theatres.
This is great at the movies, but it's hard to smuggle the box of wine past Security.
They sell a fake bra called a Wine Rack that comes with a straw.😂
Load More Replies...I can tell you from personal experience this combo goes just as well with a gory horror movie or a fast-paced action flick as it does with a chick flick
Um, not weird in the least but more like “girl dinner” on any random Tuesday
I was watching something on Food Network and they were asking the chefs about go-to meals and a lot of them said popcorn and wine. Popcorn and wine both contain polyphenols. popcorn contains 300 mg of the antioxidant. and you get fiber which helps keep you fuller longer.
Fried Egg On Pizza
Though unusual, it isn't necessarily weird, isn't it? In fact, using pizza crust instead of bread is not a bad idea. Definitely not more nutritional, but potentially more delicious!
It's not weird at all considering the "pizza" is just dough with prosciutto which is very similar to bacon and no tomatoes or tomato sauce
In Australia, the Aussie pizza from any pizza place has an egg on it. Just like hamburgers
I've eaten it in certain combos and it's effing good! I live in northern Italy and we don't have a lot of the classic fast food places. But we have a LOT of high quality pizzerie instead, which is lovely! Almost every restaurant has their own signature pizze, while still providing the classics. And you can freely add or remove the ingredients, just as you like. 😍 for my favourite pizza with a LOT of toppings i pay around 11 Euros and it's good quality and HUGE. I worship pizza ❤
This reminds me of the breakfast pizza I used to make for the staff at one of the restaurants I used to work at. Make a fresh pizza crust, add cream gravy, sprinkle cheese on top, then fine diced onion, fries potato cubes, chopped turkey sausage, and scrambled eggs. Bake until crispy underneath and gooey on top, it is freaking delicious!
Chocolate And Beets
Excuse us... what? Don't think we have ever seen the words chocolate and beets being used in a single sentence, let alone as a combined dish! Though apparently, some people swear by this combo, claiming that the earthy flavor of beets pairs amazingly well with the taste of chocolate to produce a rich, moist, and delicious treat.
It does work really well, actually. Also with Aquafaba, the water that chickpeas are in, which I use to replace egg in vegan cakes. They turn out very fluffy and moist. (i hate that word gdi)
If carrots make amazing cakes then naturally sweet beetroots must be perfect with chocolate.
Popcorn And Hot Sauce
Drizzling Salsa Valentina on salted popcorn in Mexico is as normal as pouring butter over it. Popcorn, like chips and tortillas, is also made of corn making it a suitable combination with hot sauce.
Some people just put hot sauce on everything. This doesn't feel like that but it's close.
I know a lot of people that will add hot sauce to their butter before drizzling it on their popcorn, I think this is actually not that uncommon
how is this a weird combination? having a topping on popcorn isnt a new concept and hot sause can and has been put on stranger things
I like garlic and pepper on mine (along with the butter). P.S. melt your butter first in the microwave, because warming up the machine will make the popcorn pop faster and better.
Pizza And Strawberries
Fans of pineapple on pizza, this one is for you. Much like the latter, the pizza's savory flavors go nicely with the strawberries' sweetness; hence the two complement each other really well.
Agreed! I love pineapple on my pizza .. but strawberries??? No thanks!
I am an anti-pineapple on my pizza kinda girl (no hate, I just personally don't dig it), but I feel like we must put our differences aside to combat whatever in the fresh hell the strawberry pizza people are trying to initiate
Load More Replies...I'd give it a try, then again I'll try anything except bugs and reproductive parts..
Strawberries on a salad with grilled chicken and balsamic dressing, amazing. On pizza, ick
I think it’s the thought of a tomato sauce and cheese pizza w strawberry on top that doesn’t seem right. But looking at the picture, that could work. A white pizza w ricotta and mozz, Carmelized onions, and chopped strawberries w parsley. Like the pic. Sounds good.
Load More Replies...I think if you pureed the strawberries and used them in place of the tomatoes (also a sweet fruit) then most people wouldn't notice the difference.
Cream Cheese And Olive Sandwich
Though it doesn't look very IG-worthy, we see why this could have some potential. We also can understand why someone would absolutely despise this combination.
I've seen several bagel stores that sell olive cream cheese and have tried it myself on a bagel; I quite enjoy it
This is actually a pretty common combination, using green or black olives on a nice rye bread or a bagel
Doritos And Mac N' Cheese
Honestly, looks delicious, and the word "weird" simply doesn't fit the majesty of mac n' cheese, whether served with or without the Doritos.
Crumble up doritos and put it on top of a pasta bake in the oven.
Lol any chance you're from Wisconsin or Minnesota?
Load More Replies...Sesame And Chocolate
Sesame seeds are often associated with McDonald's buns, but sesame is incredibly adaptable, which is why there are so many ideas for sesame and chocolate treats! And honestly, this is a simple yet delightful flavor combination that you didn't realize you needed. Even Lindt, pioneers in all things chocolate, offers a chocolate bar with sesame!
Idk what downvote gremlin did that, but here's an upvote bc rando down votes suck
Load More Replies...I'm from SC (we call them Benne seeds here) and Benne Wafers are a classic Charleston cookie! Not made with chocolate typically, but the sweet and nutty flavor is delish!
Pepsi And Milk
This sounds like a pairing that would result in stomach pain and diarrhea. This combination, made popular by Lindsay Lohan's recent Christmas commercial for Pepsi, soon went viral, and, apparently, Pilk (Pepsi + milk) is now a thing.
This actually became popular in the 70s on the show Laverne and Shirley. It was one of the character's go-to drinks (I think it was Laverne).
well, ice cream floats have been a thing, this is basically just kinda like the melted version. xP
Sounds like a "Pepsi float" I ordered once as a preteen in a restaurant, basically Pepsi with whipped cream on top, can't say I was a fan...
usually their made with icecream, which is actually pretty good
Load More Replies...I used to have root beer and milk when I was a kid so it's not that new
Well ice cream in root beer works so why not......hmmm now I want to try a Pepsi float.
We weren't allowed to have soda, so my mom always mixed Pepsi and milk, this was the late 60s
Strawberries And Basil
If you've considered pairing strawberries with balsamic vinegar, strawberries and basil make an equally delicious combo. Several recipes combine strawberries with basil, and the two also make for a refreshing summer drink!
Omg there's a now-closed bar that used to be very close to me, that would make the absolute best strawberry basil margaritas (using fresh basil and strawberries). I sometimes still dream of them, I've tried making it at home but something is just not quite right.
Try extra sugar syrup. my secret when I was a big cocktail queen was literally double the syrup, not sure how no one caught on to me at work in that. I got called a genius but I was a sham 😂
Load More Replies...Coca-Cola And Red Wine
Although it might initially seem like a bad idea, red wine and Coca-Cola combine surprisingly well. You'll be pleasantly surprised after you give it a try!
This is a thing sice forever on local festivities in my region 😂 it's known as "Cola-Rot" here (Cola-Red) and as far as I know it's a thing in some European countries.
Austrian here - it was THE drink back in the 70ties and 80ties when going to the disco - it was the cheapest drink with ice in it, so you could drink a long time on your half liter, and it was sweet unlike the other cheap drink - beer
Load More Replies...The Spanish call it Kalimotxo. I've seen it in both Greece and Italy, but can't remember their names for it
Cherry Blossom-Flavored Lay's
Ok, cherry blossoms are flowers, so flower-infused potato chips have the potential to smell lovely, but to taste nice? We want to believe this was a manufacturing mistake, but we can't wrap our heads around what could have led to this.
“we can't wrap our heads around what could have led to this” - uh, the whole of Asian culture and its cultural significance of cherry blossoms? BP sure missed the boat on this entry. The bag in the photo even has Chinese characters on it. Cherry blossoms are very significant in Japanese, Chinese, and Korean culture.
This lay’s with unnatural aroma of “flower” D tier for me and it doesn't even have crunchy taste
Load More Replies...Cinnamon Roll Hamburger Bun
Honestly, this seems quite promising! Given how popular creative burger buns are at the moment, it would not surprise us that sweet bread and a warm cinnamon glaze would go nicely with a juicy burger.
this is so american, could only see this being sold at one of those novelty restaurants
And yet there it is in a traditional fish & chips basket and fake newspaper wrapper...
Load More Replies...Potato Donut
Apparently, potato donuts are a thing, and ostensibly, those are delicious. And because we love potatoes and donuts on their own, we are optimistic (and praying) that this actually tastes good.
Why not? Potato bread is really, really good and moist and durable. Why should it be different with doughnuts?
I suddenly understand Homer Simpson and am actually drooling a bit over this lol
Load More Replies...Interesting. My Mom has a wheat allergy. Might see if I can make some of these for her.
Popcorn And Milk
Yes, combining popcorn and milk is a thing. Apparently, historical cues imply that the precursor to what we now know as cold breakfast cereal was popcorn and milk with sugar sprinkled on top!
Things like this lead me to ask myself all sorts of questions, such as " just how high is TOO high?"
I’m starting to wonder now myself 😆 I remember one stoner creation a friend made, woke up to the house smelling of McDonald’s cheeseburger, so I’m thinking I might join him in the kitchen, asked him what he made, minced beef and a can of Heinz spaghetti- tasted like c**p 😂
Load More Replies...Mango And Chili Powder
Mango with chili powder is another popular Mexican concoction as commonplace as drizzling spicy sauce over popcorn. Pretty much every fruit vendor in Mexico will offer you fresh mango dashed with lime juice and chili powder.
Friend, not all mangoes are bright yellow. Many cultivars are green-fleshed.
Load More Replies...Very popular street snack in Mexico! And push cart vendors all around L.A. during the summer. Mango is the best. But It's a delicious way to eat lots of different fruits. Like various melons, peaches, plums, strawberries, pineapple oh man! . It's also good on cucumber or avocado as well! Delicioso!!
Peanut Butter And Mayo
It turns out that during the 1930s through the 1960s, the Great Depression played a significant role in the popularity of the peanut butter and mayo sandwich. For many households in the South, the combination of peanut butter and mayonnaise was an affordable, calorie-dense option. Surprisingly, many people enjoy this unusual sandwich combination to this day!
Yuck. As a child I used to eat peanut butter with butter sandwiches or PB and bananaas or PB with maple syrup but mayo!? I'll pass lol
Best sandwich ever-crunchy peanut butter, mayo, strong cheddar cheese, tomato and salt and vinegar crisps (chips in USA). Only to be eaten very occasionally though!
Slice a banana lengthwise, smear it with mayo, and sprinkle it with crushed peanuts. It was a Thanksgiving favorite when I was growing up.
Black Bean Brownies
Apparently, some claim that these taste almost just like traditional brownies but with the added benefits of being somewhat more nutritionally balanced and gluten-free.
I've had some amazingly killer avocado brownies before (you can't tell there's avocado in it), so I suppose if these are done right they might actually be pretty tasty
I'm severely allergic to Avocado so that's a big no no for me. (I liked the taste, but found out not long after that the rest of my body doesn't like them at all)
Load More Replies...There is a tradition of sweet recipe with azuki beans ( very similar to black beans) in Japan, I've tried a lot of them ( azuki bean marmalade is a must) and they are very good!!
Red bean paste is used in a lot of desserts, I can't imagine black beans being much different. I've also heard of using avocado or beetroot
Black beans, avocado, and extra firm tofu all (separately) give chocolate dishes an outstanding texture without changing the flavor noticeably. Worth trying because they make good substitutes if you run out of other ingredients and because they add nutritional value without ruining the dessert.
Hot Chocolate And Cheese
Apparently, this is a local specialty in Valle del Cocora, Spain. And yes, you do have to put the slices of cheese into the cup.
its a similar thing to cheese and chocolate, which i think is pretty popular?
When I was little I 'd often have St Nectaire (a nutty cheese from Auvergne 's region of France) with dark chocolate. Yum !
Ketchup And Ranch Dressing
Every fast food chain has a "secret" sauce for its burgers, often made of mayo, ketchup, and various seasonings. And considering how popular the ketchup and ranch combo is, potentially, ranch could be the secret ingredient to some of the recipes!
I like ketchup-mayo-tartar sauce (wth is wrong with me) and if I opened a restaurant Noone would figure our what's in my sauce >:)
The best Is ketchup, ranch AND barbecue sauce together. I dislike ketchup alone but can't get enuf of those 3 together.
That's why Heinz made Kranch: https://www.heinz.com/products/00013000012768-heinz-kranch-sauce-19-fl-oz-bottle/?gclid=CjwKCAjwzuqgBhAcEiwAdj5dRveCEFEOL_pvY8k7ttx138bKR7BqLlkA1-l7es3tS4cGA4XcG8FOVRoC410QAvD_BwE
A friend of mine was doing this at least 12 years ago. She called ranchup, which is superior to Kranch.
Peanut Butter And Cheese
Since cheese and peanut butter are traditional sandwich toppings, you may make a sandwich combining the flavors of two famous sandwiches. Apparently, it's a match made in heaven. But is it really? Let us know in the comments!
Is there actually a sandwich out there that the addition of potato chips does not improve?

Avocado With Honey
You'll enjoy avocado with honey if you enjoy butter and honey or peanut butter and honey on toast or biscuits!
Cream Cheese And Flamin' Hot Cheetos
Something might be wrong with our taste buds, but they are thrilled by the idea of combining Flamin' Hot Cheetos and whipped cream cheese together! This combo works, though we're not sure why.
Pour your favorite salsa over a broken up block of cream cheese, mash around, open the chips, and stand back. Tip: you can up the heat on your usual salsa thanks to the mitigating effect of the cream cheese.
Add chopped tomato and capsicum as well and you have a very popular dip where I grew up. Philadelphia even made a sweet chilli sauce topped cream cheese in the 2000s onwards, so can't be that unusual
Load More Replies...In high school We used to get bagels with cream cheese from the cafeteria, and dump hot Cheetos on to them
It's good because cheese, milk, and cream help cut the spice so you get more flavor with less burn. Works with jalapenos and other spicy dishes as well (jalapeno poppers are filled with cheese for a reason). Some cultures use yogurt instead, but the concept is the same. Anyone who grew up in a spicy food culture knows you never drink water or soda to cool the burn, always a milk product. I think the fat in the dairy may help cut the oil by blending with it, but don't quote me on that last bit, it's just a theory.
I mean, If nacho cheese Doritos dipped in sour cream is really common I don't see why this would be a stretch
Peanut Butter And Mango
We've already established that peanut butter is versatile and goes with many things. Apparently, some really enjoy their PB sandwiches with a slice of mango on top. Again, to each their own!
Banana Grilled Cheese
This one is for those times when you feel like adding a little extra something to your grilled cheese, but all you have is a banana that is about to go brown. Definitely one of the strangest variations of sweet and salty.
If I felt like adding a little extra something to my grilled cheese and all I had was an old brown banana I would suck it up and eat my plain grilled cheese
Banana and cheese is a great combination, in brazil we have banana pizza everywhere
Broccoli And Flamin' Hot Cheetos
What are the odds you would find Flamin' Hot Cheetos and broccoli on the same plate at a high-end restaurant? Apparently, this unique meal combination is served at Chef Koketsu's Park Avenue restaurant in New York City.
Chocolate And Avocado
While guacamole and avocado toast first come to mind when you think of avocados, apparently, they also go nicely with sweet foods. Chocolate is a great example!
This feels like something you would dare your drunk friend to eat at a party, then laugh as they run to the sink to try to wash the awful flavor out of their mouth
Potato Chip Salad
Show this to a friend who thinks eating a whole bag of chips counts for a proper meal. Hopefully, they will include at least some greens in their ration by eating potato chip salad.
I'm not going to lie, I have done this before when I wanted something crunchy on my salad and ran out of croutons. Just crushed up some chips on top and it was actually delicious.
In my house we call this taco salad. Greens tomatoes, (onions and avocado for those not allergic) hamburger and often some kind of hot sauce, and of course the chips.
Well my brother claims any two foods together can equal a salad, so mixing salt and vinegar and plain chips he calls a salad. (Began when he insisted red and green grapes together should be called a salad)
Sweet Avocado Toast
Apparently, combining sweet jam with smooth, creamy avocado results in a delightfully unexpected pleasure. Could this weird food combo be a good substitute for dessert? We are sure willing to try this one!
Blackberry And Rosemary
Both blackberry and rosemary have intense flavors — the former is sweet and tart, and the latter is savory and bitter. Yet the rosemary's tangy flavor and subtle zing go very well with the blackberry's sweetness. We can definitely see mixologists experimenting with this combo!
Salami And Grapes
This concoction definitely fits the category of "I'd never make it myself, but if someone offered it to me, I'd try." Though, this combo could work as a wine appetizer!
I could see this being okay. I mean you can find both on an antipasto platter.
Rice With Ketchup
In many Slavic countries and numerous places worldwide, the rice, shashlik, and ketchup combo is enjoyed quite frequently, especially in the summer when the shashlik season is officially open.
I had it more than once when I was little here in France. It's not considered trashy or poor, it's more like an easy diner for kids !
When I was growing up, my mom would sometimes make Mexican arróz rojo (rice) with ketchup instead of tomato paste if she didn’t have tomato paste XD Absolutely delicious either way.
Fish Fingers And Custard
Surprisingly, it's not bad. In fact, it's quite good! Perhaps not something one would opt to have on a regular basis, but it tastes way better than expected!
Waffle With Pasta Sauce
If you didn't know, your beloved waffles could be served with Nutella OR pasta sauce. Although the latter may seem like an odd pairing, apparently, some actually prefer this combo.
Melted Chocolate On A Cheese Pizza
Two rich, creamy foods that are delicious on their own are cheese and chocolate. Together, though? This really sounds like something a pregnant woman would crave! And though not pregnant, we must admit that we wouldn’t mind taking a bite.
Very common when we were in Brazil, and a favourite at our favourite UK fancy pizza restaurant

Definitely sounds like one of those downright bizarre preggo cravings! Fun fact, there's a pregnancy-focused cookbook called "Pickles and Ice Cream"! Still, we're not here to judge since we do enjoy an ice cream & fries combo!
You should try balsamic vinegar as an ice cream topping.

Not for me. Though during my last pregnancy I did crave vinegar on tater tots.
When I was a kid I used to eat sweet pickles with my milk. I'll have to give it a try again.
Hot Sauce And Ice Cream
This list is testing our open-mindedness and rationality because we would have never imagined that a combination like this even existed and even more that it could work. Apparently, it does for some people, but we're torn on this one.
I’ll try some tonight with my franks hot sauce and also tobacco and let you all know 😆
Ramen And Melted Kraft Single Slice
Apparently, ramen and melted Kraft single slices combine well together. And honestly, we don't see why not!
This...this is it. You can do anything with Ramen noodles. Add an egg, add vegis, add meat. Geeze don't just eat the noodles unless that is what you want.
I discovered this when my granddaughter had me add an egg. Then it became breakfast. Then I spiced as I described. Then I tested different noodles. I made my own noodles a couple of times. You can do anything with those wavy, crunchy, magical things. (P.S. it's pasta.) (P.P.S and I really do love them.)
Load More Replies...Peanut Butter Hamburgers
Because it can be served as either sweet or savory, peanut butter’s versatility makes it a staple in every cupboard. Hence, we’re not surprised that the smooth PB variation could taste incredibly good on a burger with some crispy bacon!
Jelly And Scrambled Eggs
Honestly, can't be mad at this one. We probably should, but we aren't. We can see a bodybuilder eating this for breakfast while also craving something sweet.
Hot Dog With Grape Jelly
It looks like something a kid would come up with when asked what they want to eat for breakfast. Apparently, jelly is now used on the hot dog instead of ketchup and mustard.
Queue the six million "If you think THAT's American..." type responses. But in the end, yeah, poverty makes people creative and only a few thousand people here are actually wealthy.
Load More Replies...Split Pea Miso And Barley Koji Ice Cream
Miso is a tangy fermented soybean paste often used in savory dishes like ramen. However, its salty flavor also goes quite well with sweet delicacies like caramel and chocolate. And apparently, golden-hued miso ice cream is quickly gaining popularity in ice cream shops worldwide!
You use both sweet and miso when balancing flavours in a lot of Asian cooking so this isn't much of a stretch
Oreos And Orange Juice
This weird food combination may have potential considering that both orange and chocolate are popular flavors. Like milk, orange juice softens the cookie while infusing it with a sweet, citrusy flavor. Yet, can it beat the Oreo & milk combo? Absolutely not.
Sriracha And Peanut Butter
Although the peanut butter and sriracha combo will never be superior to the good ol' PB&J, sriracha has that sweet aftertaste, too, but without the sugar rush effect! Definitely an odd pairing, but definitely worth a try.
Green Apples And Salsa
Why wouldn't green apples work well in salsa if fruits like pineapples and mangoes do? They offer a tangy flavor and help to balance the heat in spicy dishes with their acidic taste; hence, we can see the potential!
Mustard And Oreos
Apparently, the 2020 TikTok trend which involves adding mustard to an Oreo and eating it has put down roots. And although it may seem an odd combination to some (us included), quite a few people actually like the pairing.
I try to be open minded and don't think it's anyone's place to tell another what is good or bad as far as food but that is an abomination before Man and God.
People are really abusing Oreos in ways I'd never imagined possible
Banana And Mayonnaise Sandwich
We might be open-minded and willing to try new things, but this combo is next-level even to us.
um, this is a very common Southern sandwich, and has been since the 1930s, famously Dale Earnhardt said its his favorite
My grand father who grew up on a farm in Kentucky ate miracle whip and banana sandwiches all the time. I thought it was a country thing because here I am 47 and this is the first I've heard of others eating such things lol.
My Grandma was known for her Banana salad. Sliced bananas, mayonnaise, & walnuts. It's delicious.
Cheetos And Milk
You may now have milk with something other than cereal at breakfast. Apparently, these cheesy nibbles pair well with sweet milk. However, if you do try this concoction, we do recommend hanging around by a bathroom, at least for the first hour or so.
Pickles And Oreos
"Honey, I crave some pickle and Oreo sandwiches!"
Tbh as an European I just can't understand the faszination with Oreos. I tried them first as an adult and was really dissapointed. I imagined them to taste more like chocolate /cocoa and cream, but they were just bland compared to other store-bought cookies..
A few posts ago, Craftsman 64 said "I try to be open minded and don't think it's anyone's place to tell another what is good or bad as far as food but that is an abomination before Man and God." And it applies to this.
Why do people keep doing bad things to Oreos? Are they being punished??
Olive Oil And Ice Cream
Spaghetti With Yogurt
According to people, this odd pairing actually works. Apparently, the pasta serves as a hearty and fulfilling base, while the yogurt gives the spaghetti a creamy texture and tangy taste. Though doubtful, we are actually willing to try this one!
I’ve used it in place of Alfredo/cream sauce and in tuna casserole instead of Anne’s cream soups. It can work.
We use Alfredo in casserole instead of tge soups.
Load More Replies...Pasta is a pretty neutral food and I have had pasta with milk before so this seems fine.
for me its the contrast in texture that makes me doubt it
Load More Replies...Cold Pizza Dipped In Soda
Our initial thought — someone certainly was under the influence when they attempted this. Let's be fair; we wouldn't specifically dip a pizza slice in soda. However, if we accidentally spilled some soda on it, well, you obviously won't throw the slice away! But dipping it on purpose — that's in the red zone of our weird-o-meter.
Bananas And Ketchup
Bananas and ketchup are one of those strange meal pairings that sounds really disgusting, yet some people actually enjoy it. To each their own, we suppose!
Look I'll eat Fritos and apple sauce, but I gotta draw the line somewhere... pretty sure I just found the line lol
Tell me you're playing truth or dare without telling me you're playing truth or dare.
Popcorn And Ketchup
Mexicans do enjoy hot sauce-topped popcorn; perhaps the American analog of this topping may be ketchup. And honestly, this can’t taste too bad. Sticky fingers are guaranteed, though.
Most of these were widely eaten foods. Does this person just eat things in their original form only and never mix salty and sweet?
I gave up commenting because 90% of these are things that are either extremely common, have many different variations available in restaurants or grocery stores, or are well known pairings. Who thinks these are weird, aside from maybe people who only eat frozen nuggets, bologna and mayo on white bread, and think butter is kinda spicy.
Don’t crucify me but I like peanut butter-Nutella-pickle sandwiches along with Caesar dressing on pizza
What's weird about caesar dressing on pizza? It's literally ranch's cousin.
