From 534 Lbs To 214 Lbs In 4 Years

I think this picture accurately depicts that change takes time. My nephew is a good example in this picture. He didn’t wake up one morning and grow into the size he is now. It took time. You are not going to just wake up at your goal, it’s gonna take time. Embrace it.

People need to realize that it takes time to gain weight; so it also takes time to lose it.

Modern food is definitely designed to be like drugs. It's amazing how once you cut processed foods and start feeling like you're firing all cylinders, you start to see what a sham the fda is.

To find out more about living with and battling eating disorders, a while ago, Bored Panda reached out to Nuno, the UKAT Head of Treatment, who shared some very useful insights into the complex mind of a person with an eating disorder. According to Nuno, eating disorders can manifest in a variety of different ways for different people.

"For some, it is about controlling or limiting food, but for others, it is to consume large amounts of food. This—coupled with a sedentary lifestyle—leads to weight gain, which has mood-altering side effects like depression," Nuno told us.

In order to understand the brain with an eating disorder, it’s important to recognize the fact that there is an incredibly powerful link between food and mood. "It can often overcome a person's everyday life, in the same way that an unhealthy relationship with drugs or alcohol can, and just like an addiction to substances, the only way out is to address and treat the root cause of the problem," he told my colleague Jonas previously.

Nuno argues that one and probably the best way to alter the negative link between 'food and mood' is to exercise. “Exercising releases endorphins which trigger a positive feeling in the brain and body. Finding any way to move your body if you're struggling with weight and your mental health will bring huge advantages," he explained.

That takes a lot of self control and strength to stick to diet and excising to achieve this. That should be inspiring to everyone who wants to lose those extra pounds

For some people, food becomes much more than its initial purpose of giving us the energy we need to do daily activities. For some, food becomes an all-consuming obsession. A significant body of research found that food addiction involves the same areas of the brain as drug addiction. According to Kris Gunnars, a nutrition expert and founder of Authority Nutrition, the same neurotransmitters are involved, and many of the symptoms are identical.

The research has shown that processed junk foods have a powerful effect on the reward centers of the brain. These effects are caused by brain neurotransmitters like dopamine. The most addiction-prone foods include typical junk foods like candy, sugary soda, and high-fat fried foods.

What’s interesting to note is that researchers agree that food addiction is not caused by a lack of willpower, but they believe it is caused by a dopamine signal that affects the biochemistry of the brain.

Norma, please don’t worry about the dreaded thigh gap— it doesn’t mean you are in poor shape if you don’t have one. I practice a lot of sports, work out and have an athletic build and will never have a thigh gap. We are all built differently. Instead of thigh gaps we can rock our muscles 💪

For real though! I can 100% attest to that. Working at an Amazon warehouse, all I did was make myself eat according to what my Fitbit and MyFitnessPal app were saying I had to eat in order to maintain a 2 lb weight loss a week. It turned out to be close to over 2200 calories on workdays. And as a 5'5" 24 year old woman. It got to the point that I just physically was not hungry enough to even try to eat that much (I'd be stuffing myself beyond full). Now from Feb 4th this year to today, I have lost close to 30 lb (210-181 lb). Only 30 more to go!

I agree with the physical job, though it doesn’t always have to be as physical as his job. I worked retail when I was younger, at a bookstore. Just the constant walking, lifting, bending, etc took me from a size 16 to a 12. Over the years I moved more firmly in to sitting jobs that have jacked the weight back up, mostly in the legs. It really shows how just being in your feet helps. I’m on a 40lb weight loss journey myself, hoping to get back down to where I was 10 years ago.

From OP responding to a similar question. I hope this helps and good luck!!: "It’s doable but start with walking. Walk fast enough to get your heart rate around the 100-110. That’s what I did for 30-40min a day. And calorie count. Look at the portion sizes. I’ve tried and failed so many times to lose weight. This time it worked because I combined portion control with exercise. I realise now I always ate too much. I have no self control over food so I avoid eating rubbish food. It’s taken me 3 months of gradual adding exercise. Small steps but incremental. You can do this if I can :)"

Also, for us older women who have dieted for years - thanks to WW bull#$@&, I had 'broken' my appetite. My body thought I was hungry all the time, which led to 50 pounds overweight. My MD has helped me lose 40 of those with safe, medically approved diet pills (ADHD meds) which suppress my appetite back to normal levels. I also exercise every day - walking, weights, bicycling, etc.

Celebrating 50 Pounds Lost! Most Days I Am Doing OMAD, But I Don't Sweat It If I Happen To Eat A Second Or Even Third Meal. Another 40-50 To Go For Next Year

IF is honestly the easiest way I've found to lose weight - and I get to be lazy and cook less, seriously a win-win.

I'm guessing OMaD is one meal a day? Is that healthy as a lifestyle or is it just for quick weight loss and then move into a full time regimine?

I actually started doing this as my lifestyle became less active (full time etc made it more sedentary). It actually isn't hard at all once you start the rhythm. I drink way more water now and feel less "hanger." I find myself feeling full quicker, eating earlier (usually by 11), and have even progressed to exercise and still on one meal and it doesn't bother me. I would not suggest diving in and trying to force it on yourself. That's what would make it a short term fad. I started by eating one meal I really loved once a day, enjoying it, and leaving it at that. Then didn't guilt myself over a snack here and there. I don't believe in a "healthy" lifestyle that everyone's supposed to follow. Three meals a day is relatively arbitrary. As long as you're getting your necessary nutrients you can do whatever you want

I've only eaten one meal a day for pretty much my whole adult life (F**k grandparents forcing the clean plate and by force, I mean beating me until I cried then shoveling food in) I'm still 275 pounds.

Yes, it's not enough all by itself, your body just adapts. You also need to add physical activity.

It's amazing how much bodies can differ. I used to eat maybe two meals a day on a pretty sedentary lifestyle (mental health issues) and eventually I was down to 40kg. Had to start following eating disorder therapy. Now I have to eat two to three meals a day plus snacks to maintain a weight of 50, and I'm still considered underweight. It's so fascinating to me! I would literally be hospitalized if I did any of those diets lmao. You're all superheroes 💕

I have lost 49 lbs from November 2021 to June 2022. I stopped having the regular breakfast with eggs and cut out carbs before dinner. Now I break my fast at about 11am with a salad and usually some cheese. I eat a normal dinner about 6pm (no seconds!).

Great job, just make sure you are eating enough to fuel your body. I am concerned that consuming 1200-1500 calories a day is too little for the exercise you are doing. People please be safe when losing weight.

People underestimate walking as an exercise. I rush around everywhere on foot as I don't drive and it gets my heart rate into the fat burning zone for around an hour to two hours per day. You also get the benefits of being outdoors for your mental health. It's also completely free.

    Two Years, A Lifetime Difference

    Two Years, A Lifetime Difference

Went from dirty keto, to strict 20 total carb keto, to clean whole foods keto, to now a mostly carnivore eating plan. Have lost more weight than I currently weigh a total of 264 lbs. Still working on dropping the quarter-ton mindset.

It does take longer for your mind to catch up with your body. But as long as you are aware of this, you'll be fine

Sharon, you seriously need to get a life - some of your comments might seem heartening, to you, but they're actually the reason why so many people feel bad about the way they look.
